That was the way I did: Esc (game menu) / Support / (ladybird tab) / “Area” rolldown menu: “Black Lion Trading”, “Sub-area”: “Gem store”, filled and submitted the form, wrote a letter to the “Description of the issue” input field.

Did I do something wrong with this method?

Yes, you need to submit your request via the support link at the top of this page > Submit a request link located at the top right of that page. Fill out the form required fields marked with an asterisk and submit. You then should get an auto response email with a ticket number and hopefully within 3-4 days or less hear from support via email. In game reports do not go to customer service and do not receive a response. They are for things like bug reports.

You stated you wrote an in game ticket. That is not the proper support channel for such issues. In game reports do not go to customer support and will not receive an answer. You need to file a ticket via the support link located at the top of the page.

If you submitted a ticket via the support website and never even received the auto email with the ticket number then you should check to make sure Anet emails are not going into your junk mail or blocked.

If you get the auto email and nothing after that you can post your ticket number for review in this thread if it has been longer than 3 days (edit currently support is saying it might take 4 days).

First of all remove all that personal information from your post. You have put your account in great danger of being compromised. You should never post that information publicly.

Second, to change your email address associated with your account you have to submit a support ticket by following the support link at the top of the page. It looks like maybe you have contacted support but posted the information needed for your request on the forum for some reason instead of in the support form or by responding to a support email.

I went ahead and reported the post in hope that a moderator will see it and remove your sensitive account information in case they see this post before you do.

So I recently boosted my character over the weekend and now I’m a tad lost on how to start the Prologue: Rally to Maguuma quest line to unlock the glider and mastery points. I obviously didn’t complete the personal story for my character, so I’m wondering if I need to go back and do that or what? I log into the Silverwastes, but don’t see any indicators.

Go to your story log in the hero panel and select the first HoT story and it will direct you where to go and how to get started. You don’t have to finish the core personal story to do so.

  • I want to prevent someone from seeing me. Players may desire a display name change for personal reasons. For instance, they once were friends with someone and now wish to stop interacting. Or they claim they are being “stalked” by another player. Changing for such personal reasons is not supported. More importantly: If we completely change your Display Name, people who once had you on their Friends or Blocked list still will be able to identify you. There is no way to “reset” an account and wipe its history. If someone knows the old Display Name they’ll simply see the new one. (I believe that the system is designed this way to prevent people from losing their contacts if they have to change their Display Name for a genuine security issue.)
  • Someone may figure out my personal information. Generally, the scenarios made for this request are not valid. But if you fear that your Display Name makes learning your e-mail address easy, and if you feel that knowing your e-mail address poses a risk to your account, we can help you change the Account Name (log-in e-mail address).
  • Why do you have this policy? We feel that one’s history should remain intact unless there is a substantial security risk. It’s not healthy for individuals to be able to swap Display Names because some who request it will be doing so to hide in order to avoid past, negative history. Imagine the issues caused by supporting random Display Name changes that allow scammers, cheaters, verbal abusers, etc., to start their misbehavior anew with the “clean slate” of a new, unknown Display Name.

I hope that this information helps you understand our policy and our practices in relation to Display Names.

Here is a link that will show roughly how much it will cost to craft. You can subtract the cost of buying Dusk from this since you have it. The current buy price (low end) for Dusk is 970 gold. The default I linked shows materials needed if you craft Dusk. So make sure you click the TP option beside Dusk and it will show all the other mats needed. Like I said just subtract the cost of buying Dusk for the total.

It will cost you roughly 1290 gold at this time to make if you buy everything else needed. The market fluctuates so that is going to change +/- from time to time.

If you are a member of the site, which is free and use the API you can also select to show cost based on materials you already have.

There are also some sort of hidden costs that might affect you as a new player. For example you will need a lot of karma or other non-gold currencies to buy some things needed that can not be purchased with gold for example Obsidian Shards.

If you really want Twilight it is probably worth keeping Dusk and slowly work toward your goal. Precursors are hard to come by as I am sure you know.

It’s taken for the daze to break CC bars and Locust hits 10x, 5 targets and cripples…so it’s not as bad as you think when you first look at it. It also has the utility of swiftness if you are careful not to use it in the middle of running through mobs. Mostly though, you’ll be using dagger to regain life force to go back into shroud quicker, your off hands on a necro are mostly for utility purposes and not supposed to be spammed like other professions. It’s usually better to just use the auto for damage purposes.

Sorry one more stupid question. Many suggested using warhorn in offhand. I noticed that the first warhorn skill (wall of doom) on the wiki doesn’t show any damage but a 2 second daze and the second one (locust swarm) shows very little damage. If I am going for power necro I’m wondering how that helps. Also they both seem to have fairly long recharge compared to other offhand weapons even with the trait line to reduce recharge of warhorn skills. I think I am missing something here. Is it related to some kind of shroud benefit? Thank you again for your help. I’ve asked profession related questions in other forums and you all have been very helpful compared to the others. It looks like we have a good necro community here.

Hi all,

I just got to dusting my L50 Necro off the shelf and decided to make it my second main. I used ToKs to level to 80. I have HoT and plan on getting the hero points to get Reaper later on because I hear that is best. However, for now while I am still using core skills what is the best weapon set? I only play PvE (some dungeons and fractals but mostly open world). I was thinking staff/axe/dagger.

Also what are the best stat sets for armor and weapons to pursue for Necro that will eventually also be Reaper? I’d like to go ahead and buy the armor (exotic for now) and runes/sigils I’ll need later on.

If you feel like this is an error you can contact support. If not wait out your suspension. Account suspensions are not necessarily instant and could be due to a language violation you are guilty of hours or days ago. It depends on how fast support tracks down and researches the report.

Frustration with new PVE dailies

Yeah I almost regret having HoT now because of the HoT daily that replaced some of the core game ones. I hate the HoT maps and don’t care to ever go there even though as another person pointed out apparently HoT is more fun after the patch. I just have not had the opportunity to play and find out.

It would be nice if HoT daily was a separate category and didn’t replace some of the core daily. That way people that enjoy the HoT maps have their daily and those that do not like HoT maps but own HoT do not feel like they are being funneled into HoT maps.

More options are always better. In a perfect world the daily would allow players that enjoy their prefered game mode be it PvE core, PvE HoT, PvP, and WvW can do so without feeling like they are being pushed into an area they do not care for. Or they can mix and match if they enjoy a bit of each. I know Anet wants people to try various game modes but let the player decide to do so on their own.

For example there have been times when I did a PvP daily. Not because I like PvP but because the PvE options I enjoy were limited that day. I join a daily “let win” arena get my credit, quick one and done and I don’t go back. It certainly doesn’t encourage me to play real competitive PvP. I think most competitive PvP players are happy for that. They don’t want me on their team.

tl;dr More daily options are better for everyone in all game modes. That way players can do the daily they enjoy instead of feeling like it is a chore. And yes I know there is no requirement to do daily.

You might find core games for sale at some of the Anet authorized retailers. For example Amazon sells the core game for much less but I think the Amazon listings for GW2 core are for a physical copy which would include the game code needed. So your friend would have to wait for it to arrive in the mail..

I would be very cautious buying from a retailer that is not listed as authorized by Anet. You might end up buying a bogus code or a code that was sold by someone who bought it using a stolen credit card. That can cause huge problems.

On a side note your friend could still give the free version a try. You can still send your friend items. Also once you become mutual friends there should not be a restriction on whispering to each other.

Normally they won’t change a display name but your case is an exception because what’s being displayed is your serial code, and letting everyone see that is a security risk.

It isn’t a game code. It is a bug that affects a small amount of customers. I know because the first time I saw someone with a display name such as that I contacted support out of concern that the person had accidentally used their game code as a display name. Support informed me that it was not a game key but a bug. Also GW2 keys follow a different format.

I hate the HoT maps. After I got my elite specializations done I made a point to never go back. I understand that HoT maps have had a make over but I have not had a chance to test it out yet. I actually have not even had the chance to play aside from log in for rewards due to being overseas on business. But if am I reading it right, if you have HoT some of the core game PvE daily have been replaced with some HoT PvE daily? If that is the case I’m no interested. And if that is the case it would be nice if the HoT PvE daily was in addition to the core PvE daily and not taking 1 or 2 of them away from core.

Just like the changes some time ago to daily, there are many areas of the game I have no interest in participating in. I don’t care for being prodded towards those areas of the game for the sake of increasing participation metrics. Sure I can do a quick PvP daily in a “PvP Daily let other team win” arena but what is the point of that? It doesn’t sell real competitive PvP participation as a whole.

Like I said, I’m lacking knowledge here. I’m interested in hearing more.

I think if you try out HoT again, when you return, you will be pleasantly surprised. Very pleasantly. I’ve stayed away from it for a long time, but went back after the patch, and it’s much different, and very rewarding (in more than one sense).

Yeah I always found that bit interesting given the problems and lack of support the Mac client has had over the years. That and this line from the same link given it has been over three years now:

and understand that your overall experience will be better when we release the final version.

I guess we can keep our fingers crossed and hope it is for real this time and not like all those times they offered Mac support specialists that vanished. It does seem they are honestly working on it now. Although I think their hand might have been sort of forced once Nvidia acquired TransGaming and they lost the ability to work with TG on updates.

Given everything that was delivered with today’s patch it seems like MO and his team have been trying to turn things around across the board. I was rather impressed. Heck they even fixed the Mac launch bug within several hours. Only time will tell. I’m optimistic but hesitant to be so at the same time if that makes sense.

Just an update from reddit. It seems that the native Mac client is still in the works, or at least has not been abandoned yet.

Due to the small work around most of us mac players had to use earlier to get in the game after the patch, could you give us any news on the progress of the mac client you mentioned briefly in the previous AMA?

I understand it’s not top priority but any news on it is appreciated.

Just so you know, I’m primarily a Mac user too. I’m going to celebrate with you on the day that playing GW2 on my Mac is as enjoyable as playing it on my PC. But it’s a big project.

I recently started playing on the Mac (OSX El Capitan Ver. 10.11.3), and what I’ve noticed is that my game has a tendency to freeze up/crash at random intervals, and also make the color display on the cut scenes distorted (it’s fine for everything else). Any recommendations?

Unfortunately probably not much you can do but turn down settings to see if that helps. The Mac client runs through a cider port (which slows things even more) and is only available in 32-bit. There is word that Anet is working on a native Mac client but last word it was still in early testing with no promises that it will be completed.

Other than that the other option is to use a bootcamp Windows partition which will also allow you to run the 64-bit client. This is what I finally ended up doing once the 64bit client was released and the performance is much, much better and I can run the game on medium and some high settings fine. The main down sides of course are having to install Windows on a Mac (but I only use it for the game so I’m not too worried) and having to reboot to switch between OSX and Windows when you want to play the game.

SOLUTION:

Go to your GW2 application. Right-click and choose “Show Package Contents”
Navigate Contents -> Resources -> transgaming -> c_drive -> GW2
Rename gw2.exe to oldgw2.exe
Rename gw2.tmp to gw2.exe.
Launch GW2.

The launcher will start and will begin the download. I’m downloading now.

This worked for me. The bug affected all three of my Macs of different versions and it worked for all of them.

So this works in the short term, technically, but you won’t be able to patch at all in the future unless you roll this fix back. It looks like we have some idea of what changed and we’re working to get a real fix in for this.

If it is the launcher bug try this.

SOLUTION:

Go to your GW2 application. Right-click and choose “Show Package Contents”

Again I am aware of the origin of the Mac client. I’ve been around the forum (and the old Mac support forum) for a long time. I’m also aware of the years of neglect even before TransGaming was acquired by Nvidia, the many times customers were promised Mac specialists that posted a few times and vanished, and the one time I saw Anet address a Mac issue quickly was when Mac customers could not access the gem store. Of course that was before TransGaming was aquired by Nvidia. But as I said, I’m pretty sure someone at Anet has a Mac to test it on to see if the client at least loads.

I’m not going to argue anymore about the issue so as to not derail the thread. Let’s just say from my experience I’m not surprised the client was broken and Anet didn’t mention it if they knew about it.

That would be a super obscure thing to check no matter what they were messing with.

I don’t think testing if the client opens on Mac is an obscure thing to check at all given that, you know, GW2 has a Mac client. Sorry I’m a bit jaded because I’ve seen Anet treat the Mac client as an afterthought for way too long. I’m glad a customer found a fix though.

I’m aware of that but if they know something is broken if they tested it a post letting people know before they find out by trial and error would be helpful. Luckily we have some good forum members that often figure out how to fix Anet’s broken product.

Thanks that worked. I wonder if Anet actually tests their updates on Macs before they release them. It seems doubtful.

Also just tested by booting my iMac in OSX and my old one as well. So on 3 different Macs it does not work. It only works when I load it in bootcamp windows.
