Probably should update the sticky in the HoT forum about Raids where people looking for news on HoT will see it.
Wonder why that can’t announce such things on their on forum?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Raiding-will-be-re-enabled-at-8-30-PM-PST
My bad I don’t follow that forum as I bet many do not. To be honest that forum like the WvW forum and several others is not the place most go for important information. I was following the HoT forum where it was announced closed in a sticky and I think most people go for HoT news. I was going by the thread title about reddit. Maybe they need to update that sticky thread in the HoT forum as well.
That said, I’m off to give it a go.
Edit: As of right now the post in the dungeon/fractal forum has 297 views after an hour of the post. Not being mean toward Chris on a late Sunday of work but probably should be posted in HoT forum and the sticky there.

Wonder why that can’t announce such things on their on forum?
I usually see lots of players go down at any world boss, even the easiest ones. If a few heal specced people keep all the newbies on their feet to enjoy the content without needing a revive afterwords what’s the harm in giving them credit? I’d bet it would actually increase the DPS of the zerg in aggregate. Sure the healers might be doing less damage, but if there are five other players still attacking at the end who would have been taking dirt naps in the first few seconds then the average DPS will probably work out ahead overall.
I’m all for giving event rewards to people in return for using control or support. You can’t go around saying you want rolls other than DPS to be viable if you then only reward DPS.
The problem is there are so many open world PvE events that do not require dedicated heals. All of them really. Sure some newbies might go down say fighting SB, the easiest boss. That is where they learn to mitigate their own damage, not stand on AOE circles and so forth. I’m all for newbie help but this isn’t the way to do it. Teaching them they can just go all Rambo mode because they will have a healer to save them is teaching bad, very bad open world PvE habits.
If suddenly healers start getting credit for doing nothing but heals in open world PvE there will be a lot, and I mean a lot of people standing back “heal tagging” for rewards during events where it is not needed. Why? Because it is easier and safe (unless the agro system makes mobs target healers). They will upscale the event without really contributing because healing isn’t needed in those events. It is bad enough in some cases with rangers pet tagging or as some call them pet botting. Throw in Guardian loot sticks and we have half the people trying and the other half just tagging for loot.
It is a very fine line. A line that needs to be considered carefully. I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t want to take part in an open world event, have it upscaled by people healing me when I don’t need it, 90% of the others don’t either, the other 10% get rezed quickly anyway or WP back fast, and dragging the event out so they can get loot.
As I said, it seems the support role may have a place in raids worthy of reward. I didn’t get a chance to do the beta raid before it closed so I don’t know.

I can’t take a screen shot with the chat open.
You can. Click out of chat so you are no longer typing in chat, any place on the screen so you are no longer typing in chat. Then use the key you have designated for screen shots. By default your screen shot key is print screen.
That’s kind of a tough one and an issue the new for lack of a better word, healer, mechanic brings. On the one hand in raids I guess healing will be very appreciated, maybe needed and deserving of rewards. On the other hand it may encourage people to play that role in open world events where it really isn’t needed, sitting back, scaling up the event, not really contributing and “heal tagging” for easy loot. It would be worse than Guardian loot stick. So I am not sure where to go on this issue.
Again, my main point is they could be doing a lot more by supporting their twitch advertising in different avenues. Pushing esports will get them some, but frankly PVP is just a small part of the game as a whole.
I agree and that is a major reason for this thread. Spending time and resources on advertising something most people don’t even seem to care about seems like a waste.
But like I said, I don’t have access to Anet’s data. They know something I don’t know and maybe know the WTS will gain about 1,000 game buyers at $50 dollars a piece to even cover the $50,000 prize pot. . If so, good for them and I’ll eat my words.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
do you think the time spent on LS benefits all players? because i can tell you how much of that me and the majority of the pvp community has played. none.
different sections of the community require differnt things. pve needs LS so they can wind their brain down after work, and the pvp needs a world tournament. gw2 not having worlds for pvp would just be a joke.
But Anet doesn’t fly 15-20 PvE/WvW players twice a year out to a trade show to play a game at a Twitch booth at a cost of over $70,000 twice a year. Once again I refer you to this thread on how much people in the PvP forum seem to care about WTS and PvP. It’s up to 25 posts now after 4 days.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/World-Tournament-Series-Cologne-Brackets/
Yes, WTS seems to be the future of GW2 and will lead the path to making the game better. I’m glad Anet is spending over $100,000 a year on it. We will all, PvE, WvW, PvP benefit from it soon. Or not. I don’t have access to how much WTS benefits us all. So I am probably very wrong.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I think ArenaNet knows best where to spend the money they earn. But, that’s just me.
As someone that has gone back and forth with you at times on the forum, I respect your opinion. So do you think the time and resources spent on WTS benefits the majority of GW2 players? Be honest.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
The point is, twitch is free advertising to a market you want to advertise to.
I guarantee you Anet is paying for that Twitch time at the Twitch booth. It is certainly not free. There is no way Twitch would give away free time in a booth they paid for at a major show. Having managed several trade shows for some of my business partners, booth space can easily cost over $25,000 per show depending on the venue. Much more depending on the size of the display.

One of Mike and Colin’s dream was to have GW2 become the next big E-Sport MMO. While I think GW2 SPvP is ok, it’s not as epic as the GW1 Hall of Heroes PvP. There was more variety in GW1 HoH, and that made it a very popular competition. Add to that we also had structured GvG in GW1.
Having said that, Anet does put up money and resources into the current competition. Some of that comes from sponsors, so it’s not just Anet/NC Soft footing the entire bill. Do I think Anet is wasting money on the tourneys? Nah. The prize pool amount is small compared to the earnings Anet brings NC Soft, so there’s no real risk to the company’s bottom line. However, this is a double edge sword. GW2 E-Sports is not as popular as some other games, thus there’s less players participating. Less players competing means the same people who compete will most likely be the same ones who win or place high in the rankings each and every time.
The following needs to be done in order to expand GW2’s popularity and justify this game as E-Sports:
- 1) We need more SPvP variety. Capture the flag, King of the Hill, etc. Heck, GW1’s 3-way HoH made the game kitten fun.
- 2) Better rewards in SPvP
- 3) GvG. GvG mode is a must.
- 4) Cantha. Because Alliance Battles were a fun PvP alternative.
In closing, people need to remember this: NC Soft is the one who controls the purse-strings. I would love to see more attention to WvW, to QA, even allowing Devs time to interact with the community on the forums while on the clock. Putting up $100,000 on an E-Sport competition is fine. NC Soft can afford to put up another $100,000 to hire two or three more Devs.
Thanks SP for the well though out post. You made some good points. I agree if Anet really wants to go eSports they need to work on many things. Then and only then can I see making such an investment in it.
So you have no problem knowing that the money you have spent on the game might go to a biannual tournament that many don’t care about? How does WTS benefit us all? Sure it might be a small amount of money to Anet, but it is money we are sending them every time we buy gems. Like it or not but paying Anet is in one way or another paying for WTS and the money NCsoft or Anet invests in it.
Again, I am interested in what other players think how Anet or NCsoft might actually profit from the WTS. How does WTS overall benefit us all aside from the people on the WTS teams? Does anyone think WTS at a trade show will generate 2,000 sales? (2,000 X $50 price =$100,000) Just throw a guess out there.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
We’ll agree to disagree then
Just remember my post was about the possibility of it happening and some (potentially) useful mail filter tools.
If and when you get an red post answer I would be willing to bet 50 gold you are referred to my first post in your thread on how to deal with the rare case this happens. Or the thread just gets closed. In which case you owe me 1 copper.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Marketing costs vary depending on the customer base you’re trying to reach. It could very well be possible that spending 100,000 on WTS is an effective and efficient use of the money. Given what they’ve stated in the past about their long term PVP goals, I’d guess it’s money well spent.
I agree I could be and may be very wrong. But I am interested if others that have bought the game and possibly bought gems think the money is well spent on WTS. Or should it be spent on other ways that may benefit the game as a whole? Vayne is the only person that approached that question so far.
I won’t be able to watch the WTS Twitch stream to see how many are watching. If someone else can and can post the numbers with a screen shot, especially for the final that would be interesting.
Look at the mass excitement for WTS in the PvP forum. This was posted 4 days ago, red post. Screen cap below taken tonight 8/04/2015, 11:02 EST:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/World-Tournament-Series-Cologne-Brackets/
That doesn’t scream a lot of interest to me. But hey, maybe the 500 or so of people that saunter by during the tournament will generate $50,000 dollars in sales or more. It could happen.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Guild Wars 2 PvP, in my opinion, has limited appeal. There aren’t yet multiple PvP types (not counting WvW here, since the question is about SPvP). It’s not widely watched on Twitch.
Believe me when I tell you, this is a pretty cheap way to keep their name circulating in different circles. Directly I think it doesn’t do much, but what it does do is keep the name circulating.
I clipped most of your post. Sorry. However, you noted PvP is not widely watched or followed. So to me it seems like a waste to spend over $100,000 a year on PvP tournaments that most people don’t care about.
Yes it is important to keep the name circulating, but I can think several ways to do that with $100,000+ that would be much more affective. As opposed to a tournament at a trade show that most people don’t seem to care about. Trade show traffic itself is very limited. In fact limited to the number of people that venture past the display a day. Once they visit the value is only on what they buy or their word of mouth. The word of mouth is also limited by how many people visit. A small number.
Having spent years in Internet marketing, $100,000 will buy a lot of name circulation across the internet if done properly. And I am willing to bet it would have a lot more value than a few hour PvP tournament that doesn’t appeal to many as far as circulating the brand. So I disagree. It is not a cheap way for Anet to market GW2. I think WTS is a waste of money as it only appeals to a very small audience.
Of course I do not work for Anet and have no access to their numbers. I have no idea how many sales are generated from each WTS. So I may be very very wrong.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Question; Is there any chance to change it if I buy the expansion? like purchasing separately(not directly buying from Blacklion Company in this account.)
No, if you buy the expansion and use it to upgrade your current account you will have the same display name no matter where you buy it. If you buy the expansion and use the serial code to create a new account then you will get to pick a new display name. However, it will be a brand new account starting off from scratch.
I’m posting this here, as a general discussion topic because I’m curious what non-PvP and even PvP players think about the resources dedicated to WTS and how it might impact the rest of the game. I’ll admit that I’m not very interested in PvP so this has some bias. I’m curious what other GW2 players think about the money Anet spends on the WTS tournaments. We are talking about $50,000 prize pools, airfare and accommodations for the participants plus whatever Anet has to pay for time at the shows. With the prize pool, plus airfare and accommodations for the participants alone guesstimating $70,000 if not more. I think the tournaments are what twice a year so double that cost per year.
Compared to Anet’s overall revenue that amount may not be much. Then it again it isn’t actually small change either at guesstimated over $140,000 a year. But let’s look at the positives:
- Gets the GW2 name out there for trade show visitors.
- Gains exposure to the PvP aspect of the game for potential customers.
- Rewards top tier PvP players for their dedication to the game and PvP.
- Encourages other PvP players to play more, improve and maybe have a shot at the WTS.
On the other end, I wonder if this money could be spent on better ways to obtain new customers. Perhaps on more advertising. I don’t see GW2 advertised very much and when I do see them on the web I feel they are poorly executed. “Quaggan wants a fishy,” doesn’t really tell me this is a big time MMO or tell me it is an MMO at all. I could be really goofy here and say the money could be used to hire someone else or maybe 2 more people that maybe could help work on dungeon improvements, SAB, WvW, old bugs, more optimization, QoL suggestions or even PvP balancing/fixes. Those things people have been asking for for well over a year.
I’m in no way trying to detract or take anything away from PvP. It is a game mode I don’t care for but respect the people that enjoy it. However, it seems from what I have read even the PvP crowd, at least on the forum, has little interest in WTS. For example, they announced the brackets the other day in the PvP forum and since then there is currently a total of 21 responses in that thread, which is now on the 3rd page.
Anyway, I’m kind of thinking out loud here. As someone that has spent a fair amount of money on the game/gems I feel it is okay to have some interest in where the money I have spent on Anet is going. I’m simply interested in what others think about this topic.
I look forward to this being a constructive and friendly conversation, so please keep it that way.
Edit: I have no idea how much Anet receives from their listed sponsors on the WTS page. However based on the placement of said sponsors at the very bottom of the page and “popularity” of the WTS tournaments, I would guess it is not much.
tl;dr Do you think the time and money spent on WTS is worth it and does it benefit the game as a whole? Do you think the WTS is attracting $100,000+ worth of new customers a year?

They will be at the Twitch booth. They do not have their own booth and thus are not listed as an exhibitor.
They are sent out in batches. You should receive it by the end of the week.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Eligible accounts that are upgraded with a pre-purchase serial code after July 10 will receive their slots on a weekly basis after that.
If you buy the expansion and use it to upgrade your account you do not get a separate key for the core game. The core game is include free for new customers/accounts. It is to attract new customers.
There is a huge thread of opinions on this topic:

You have to contact support to change your email. The link is located at the top of the page.
Support will only discuss account issues with the account owner. In many cases items purposely deleted will not be replaced. Once again though, the only chance to receive lost skins would be from support and your fiancé would have to make the request.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Your friend will have to look for it at some of the Anet authorized retailers. The core game only is no longer offered for sale directly from Anet.
You can search for authorized retailers by country here:

The best thing you can do if someone is indeed trying to harm you by spending real money with RMT sites to try to get you in trouble is to not take the gold, return to sender, block the sender and then contact support as soon as possible to let them know what is going on. If you withdraw the gold then contact support you might have a more difficult time stating your case.
Someone must be really angry to spend real money through RMT sites to try and get someone banned. I’m guessing this does not happen very often though. However, as stated, if you are being trolled like this contact support and if you are indeed innocent your account should be safe.
As to the OP’s suggestion of a friends only mailing option I can see why this would help with the problem you mentioned. However I am guessing the cases of someone trolling someone else via RMT are so rare I don’t know if it is worth developer time. Like I said above in the event this happening a support ticket is the way to go.
Additionally, I don’t see many people using the friends only option “just in case” as the situation is most likely very rare. I know in my case, I get mails often with thank you notes that sometimes include gold or items from people that I have helped in game or on the forum and are not in my friends list. While in most cases I don’t keep the gold/items sent, I enjoy the thank you notes and I’d rather not block those due to the off chance someone might try to damage my account via RMT. By the time someone feels they need the security of mails from just friends to avoid getting RMT spammed it is probably too late and has already occurred.

It reads Field of the Fallen
Once again Anet’s official stance on the topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Requesting-a-Taken-Name/first#post4248872
We do not take character or display or guild names away from valid accounts. Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.
It doesn’t seems to have changed since Gaile’s post as seen here in another thread on topic and posted by a Lead Game Master:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Character-Name-Wipes/page/2#post4645082
I don’t really see anymore reason to argue over this as Anet has clearly stated their policy.
No, when you buy HoT you are buying the expansion. The core game is included free with the expansion for new customers/accounts. If you upgrade your current account you will not get a second core game account.
I never understood that particular PVE rant. Just because it’s possible to beat the easiest content through auto attacks, doesn’t mean you have to.
I think it is just something the OP threw in there to keep it in general discussion and not moved to WvW forum. The OP even mentioned that they are a frustrated WvW player in big bold text at the end and the bulk of the post is about WvW.
isnt that a product ID….
No, it is a bug that has affected a few people but it isn’t the serial code. I know because the first time I saw it I asked support about it out of concern for someone’s security and they assured me it is an unrelated number. It also has more characters than a GW2 serial code.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
The current product and price is for the expansion. The core game is included free for new customers.
From Gaile:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Requesting-a-Taken-Name/first#post4248872
We do not take character or display or guild names away from valid accounts. Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.
Anet will fix it for you in this case but you have to contact support. Link is at the top of the page.
I don’t like SMS authentication because of the fact that if you ever lose the phone or change phone number, phone service goes out, etc, you have to contact support and are without your account, honestly I wish there was a way to lock the password and only have it changed via support if you can prove your identity (after you’ve been hacked/etc, since freely changing password on any site makes me kinda shaky, had my steam account stolen that way before way back.)
If an account is stolen/hacked the person doing so can cause a lot of damage without changing the password. After all they gained access by finding out the password by one way or another. By then they have stripped all your loot and gold. I’d much rather have to worry about the rare case when my phone is lost and have to contact support than have all my stuff stolen and then have to deal with support for a rollback.
Do you need help buying it at a particular store? (because of price maybe?)
PM me if yes and if you have a paypal account.Yeah, that doesn’t open up anyone to being scammed.
If they have a PayPal account they can buy directly from the GW2 website.
Im actually nice enough to send a code first
But you wouldn’t know untill you would ask
Okay please send buyer A the code first. Then when they register it and don’t pay you what will you do about it? Oh, a customer support request to prove ownership. In most cases the person that registers the code is the account owner, that is if the code is legit. The person that didn’t pay you could say you gave it as a gift if you contest it. Sorry for you luck. Either way, I don’t think Anet will support what ever it is you are up to and anyone that takes you up on your offer is just asking for problems.

I forget what the other one is for Mag. I’m too tired to look it up.
Yes, get a gaming mouse. It will enhance your game play significantly once you get used to it. I suggest a Logitech G600 (others may suggest Razor but I have seen a lot of complaints about Razor mice breaking too easily). My G600 has held up to a ton of abuse. The multiple buttons fit the thumb fine and the buttons are easy to differentiate due to the layout. As for keybinds, once you get a gaming mouse it is up to your personal taste. Play around with them and select the key binds that seem more automatic to you. Personally, I use a combination of mouse buttons and keyboard buttons that I know I can hit without thinking or reaching to far.

ok grammar kitten I rephrase my sentence, most people WANT to purchase bags but they DONT because there too expensive, you got meeee yay you!
again simply showing more of how gross this community is
It’s funny you say that as most people in this thread have not been insulting or hostile aside from yourself as shown above. And as seen here:
If you think having a lot of inventory space is a luxury then you have problems,
People in this thread simply disagreed with you and explained why. I’m sorry that this thread didn’t go the way you wanted and people disagreed with you. Have a nice day/night/whatever it is where you live.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I never said that bag slots were a necessity, I have no problem with inventory management personally. All I stated was that this gemstore purchase unlike other gemstore purchases, gives you the least amount of product vs every other thing on the gemstore, and it is not a purchase that is fun, it is a utility purchase that many players could use, and it is not a fun cosmetic purchase like other items, therefore I suggested the price should be lowered since most people actually need this and most people DO NOT BUY THEM because it is too expensive for what you get.
I never said that bag slots were a necessity
But you just did in the very same paragraph, see bold text. Most people in a thread not agreeing with you does not equal trolling by the way. If you can’t deal with the risk of people disagreeing with your suggestions I suggest you no longer make suggestions.

Are back pieces disabled when gliding? If not, it will be kind of weird pulling out a big kitten glider when you already have a pair of wings.
From the images I have seen and the live streams I watched during the first few beta tests (prior to the weekend beta test) it looks like going into glider mode hides back skins and weapons as well. It appears to be a transformation of sorts if I recall correctly.
When will I receive my items for prepurchase?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892
I purchased Ultimate the day it was for sale. The bonus items arrived via in game mail but I had to log out and back in before they arrived. Also make sure your mail isn’t full and reads 10/10. If your mail is full you will need to delete some old ones before new mail will arrive. The 2nd character slot (they loyalty one) should arrive in a week or so as they send them out in batches.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Eligible accounts that are upgraded with a pre-purchase serial code after July 10 will receive their slots on a weekly basis after that.

All items, currency and any other rewards obtained on a beta character will not carry over after beta and cannot be sent to actual account characters. This mentions the first beta stress test but it still applies:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/91220997-Heart-of-Thorns-Beta-FAQ
What happens to all the items/gold/karma I get during the beta test? Will I get to play my beta character when the expansion comes out?
Your beta activity (including character development, account-based development, and currencies) won’t impact your live Guild Wars 2 account. Your beta progress will be saved for the duration of the stress test, but all beta characters and beta account progress may be deleted at the end of the test period.
And this from Colin, also referring to a previous beta event but it should still apply throughout all the beta events unless specifically indicated otherwise:
When playing with a beta character: all progress, items, etc. you get will not be saved once the event is completed.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
To get the extra loyalty slot you have to pre-purchase the expansion. Once the pre-purchase is over that offer no longer stands. The same goes with the special title the pre-purchasers receive. Also $50 dollars is the price of the expansion alone, the core game is included free for new customers. So you are not buying the core game again. I’m sure the expansion will go on sale at some point but I don’t see that happening soon after launch unless sales are low.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I know it might mess with personal stories, but pretend like you’re smart and figure it out. It would be win / win.
I don’t think insulting the developers is a good way to request a new feature.

Check the Chantry of secrets in blood tide coast just south of LA.
From the OP
realized I was missing Chantry of Secrets, went there and the POI popped
I would prefer to see the return of human female idle animation and the human female run animation as opposed to seeing more living story.
Not me. Idle character animations to me are rather trivial. I’d rather see more living story content soon after HoT. I don’t sit around staring at my character on idle for hours or even minutes, but I do enjoy playing many hours of actual game content. If they work in the change without sacrificing progress toward more significant game updates then I have no problem with that.
Content does not equal animation. Granted, animation makes content a heck of a lot more enjoyable, but once the animators are done doing their job on content-related projects, they should be able to find time to adjust some idle animations.
The person I responded to said they would rather have the animations back than more living story(content). I also even stated as long as it doesn’t interfere with content related projects I agree it should be a project.
Anyway as has been stated by Anet, the animations will come back when it is a priority. With HoT on the horizon I imagine it is very very low on the list.

Well all good then, I just want to farm Sunrise then delete the game.
Well then since you plan to delete the game after earning Sunrise send it to some random player or me, mostly me. We both win, you got what you wanted and then delete the game and your Sunrise will not be wasted along the way.
My roomates doing this was just a guess, and not something I know for sure.
Well, like I said, if you feel your account was compromised by a 3rd party then you either need to update your ticket and ask for a review or post in the sticky thread I mentioned earlier.
Has anyone here taken a look at their accounts settings recently. There is an option there to change your real name. lol
What does this have to do with changing display name?
I just think it funny that with Anets stance on display name change that they would allow an option to change your REAL name.
Why? The owner’s real name tied to the account has nothing to do with in game accountability.
Let me refresh you:
There are very good reasons why we do not offer the changes as a service at this time. It’s important in any game — and especially in an MMO with the high number and visibility of player interactions — to create a “personal history” for an account. I don’t mean your in-game “personal story” but a history of your account as viewed in the game.
If we allow changes of display names, a person who has been harassing another player will be hidden from that victim’s sight. A person who has built up a reputation for cheating, or botting, or doing other breaches of the UA, becomes invisible to those players who were aware of the issue and were awaiting action on the matter. Several other factors of “individual accountability” can be negated by simply hiding behind a new display name.
The player’s real name in the My Account interface has nothing at all to do with that. Players are not identified in game by Anet or other players by their real names used to register the account. If you noticed, one can also change the phone number and birthday. This also has nothing to do with in game accountability.
