Been seeing a lot more condi-ellybots lately. The coding on some of these new bots isn’t great tho ( i’ve seen one stand on top of my downed guy and not stomp…. and stay there doing nothing…. until i’ve gotten back up.)
Guardian is about the second least used class in competitive sPvP behind warrior. (I’ve had to dig up team rosters in the past, please don’t make me do it again).
Looking up “rosters” ? You’re using “esports” to back up your arguments?
I’m talking about real spvp, in the soloQ trenches . And there i can tell you it’s 1.5 guards per team ( on average) and it used to be much more in the past before bow shaves. In fact in the past two years there were definite times when guard stacking sorely determined match winners. So really, your “esports rosters/statistics” are just paper. Reality is entirely different.
Also defensive guard /w traps & condi is the number 1 bot build of guildwars2 . I know this because I investigated the bots last season. The build is THAT low cost/reward that it can be bot-programmed.
OP is right about berserker being in a bad place, but has a crazy entitlement issue with Warrior being treated with bias/poorly since HoT. ArenaNet screws the pooch regularly, across all classes.

Guards have needed a shave since pre-hot spec patch, and got ridiculously overpowered toys on top of the candy they had. 2 years down the line guard traps STILL aren’t split for pvp. Guards STILL have pve-damage-scaled instant activation traps ( and a f2 that will pull you into it MID DODGE. Because why pretend here ).
Or we can talk about the era of the unkillable turrets and all the skills involved in 25 turret teambuilds.
I played on the pvp preview weekend. I fully predict people to start the kittening on full revenge counter until it’s kitten right useless. and now some foofoo put a post asking for winds of disenchantment to be removed….before the skill is even in the frikking game!
While i’m looking forward to the new directions pvp will evolve , honestly i’m still on the fence about buying it or pulling out of guildwars2 forever. The cleanse nerf just before the xpac makes me feel like a beaten housewife that gets slapped around, but the husband is ALWAYS APOLOGETIC… and here’s some flowers and “gifts”.
Of course the “gifts” may turn out to be nerfed next month. There’s the rub : is the abuse by anet really worth forking 30 dollars to be treated this way ?
My main thing is, if they wanted to lower the cleanse, they could have gone from 3bar’s worth per zerker burst to… 2.
They nerfed it to 1. Because IN THIS CURRENT META removing cleanse makes total sense ! It’s trump-like balancing ! ALT BALANCING!
Obviously they still haven’t split guard traps yet. or significantly nerfed fullpassives with condi. that would imply the balance people actually be doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
What in the f%&^ …the skill isn’t even in the game yet and you’re airdropping in here and asking for a removal ?

It’s hard to not be a cynic when balance in general has been ridiculously poor for a while. In fact, i think the only semi-good " reset" where balance felt almost right was the specialisation patch just before HoT landed… which made the spec patch issues seem completely ridiculous in comparaison of the disaster that was post-HoT balance in general.
Then there’s the multiple non-stealth elephants in the room… like i dunno …
The more non-stealth elephants in the room there is, the more this feels like a circus. And that’s not what we’re here for.

I’ve posted a huge thread on it ( bot array post), and i think some kind of response on the whole botting phenomenon this season would help cool tempers. After all, the bot problem only became real when pvp loot went participation-based ( which is relatively recent).
I can confirm i haven’t seen bots yet in gold, but the fact that this still hasn’t been dealt with is ridiculous.
Just the repeatable byzantium chest gives 20g a pop and i’m pretty sure the pvp lootbots can get one or two of those every day by sheer grindage.
Where’s the banstick ? It’s not like we haven’t provided enough info for the devs in the sky to take action.

Obviously he hasn’t felt the love of the spvp bot division ( otherwise known as silver). Try being kitten seeded by RNGesus , then having to climb out of a division where more often than not 20-60% of your team is pvp lootbots .THEN perhaps talk to me about having a bum deal.
And while we’re at it, it’s not like there’s any kind of balance for this season neither, so your claims of “skills” is highly exagerated. Especially if your “skillz” involve :
- Using pve damage scaled, instant activation traps… that happen to be as big as the cap
- Going fullpassive healbot bunker because your juice skills are balanced for pve.
- Having 3-5 different health bars to absorb damage while laying wells and marks that are as big as the cap your defending.
- Thiefing without finesse and using mostly duo pistol pew or spin-to-win 80% of the time
- And of course, it’s not like the condi is out of control neither…..
Of course bots exist.

Balance patch every 2 months at the minimum.
Until they start to really work on balancing like they mean it… it’s still gonna be a disaster. Look at how long it took for them to fix invincible turrets. Hell, look at their history of balancing in general all the way down to guild wars 1 ( with invincible ninjas for every endgame instances). There are definite winners and losers in the grandmaster juggling act of ze meta balance and obviously it’s more tricky than it looks but to this day they still make me shake my head at some of the decision making being made and their justifications.
They gotta deal with the bot problem too, obviously.

…but correct me if im wrong i thought you could only duo que in ranked? so unless they also manipulated the matchmaking system how would they get 3 or more bots into the same game on the same team?
First of all, it’s not like a bot operator cares about winning behond the fact it gives more pips/hour on average to be winning. To team your bots together would probably make it a lot more obvious for detection purposes.
So say you’re running a bot array of 25 bots ( or whatever magic number. the bigger number, the more profit. because Scale.) .
- The Queue seeds 10 matches ( or 100 players that are queing within matchmaking range atm) and all 25 bots get “drafted” for those matches.
- It’s not like the drafted bots are gonna get seeded equally as a quarter of a team each( cuz that would be a guy and a quarter-ish) . They’re gonna get sprinkled in all kinds of matches and teams , likely unequally sometimes. This is where a bot’s rating might make a difference in the “placement voodoo”.
– Sometimes they get “sprinkled” 2 or 3 in a team. That’s when the pathing becomes real obvious.
Late nights, when there’s less matches being “seeded” the bots tend to get seeded more and more together… making the thing more obvious once again.

i saw bottage earlier this week but i was pleasantly surprised to see none last night at my usual hours of operation….. let’s see if the hope holds out this week. Perhaps the sysadmins in the sky used grep to find some naughty accounts ?

I’m the guy who sleeps very little, and it’s rare to have people who spend as much time as I do, I slept, I woke up the other day, and this guy was there as if he played non-stop from saturday to monday.
Since the spvp servers are in meltdown mode tonight, I figure it’s time to keep working on this thing, and do part of the work . This comment actually made me think of several things.
- From Cerulean to Byzantium an spvp bot can make 75+g & all kinds of sellable loots and the possibility of ascended equipments for character resale afterwards. So yes, there’s definitly incentives.
- If the botrunners are greedy they would simply see it as a “crunchable hours” problem ( pips/hour ) and would have a tendency to let the bots run overnight or for very long period of time.
- If you take an average of ten minutes per game ( which feels money from experience) and an average 2-ish min/Q you get between 5-6 games per hours of straight sitting. Back of the envelope math tell us that 60-72 ranked games per day means 12 hours of actual play ( most normal humans would not do 12 straight hours of gaming. eating and bathroom time intervenes).
- These accounts are most likely new(er) and obtained on some kind of special sale (the cheaper the accounts, the more this scales) . However the gold/mat will eventually get funneled to another account . (follow the money perhaps?)
So if you take all that and you start to run actual log analysis on spvp results ( or the grep as sysadmins would say)
Search for
—> Newer accounts ( < than a year most likely)
—> spvp silver division ( I can confirm seeing the bots in all silver but a search by divisions could be certainly be interesting)
—> High number of games per day ( 50-60+ say ? Are those games all consecutives?)
You start with this, then you refine these results
—> Any reports on those players ? ( botting, match manip, afk ?)
—> are multiple accounts from the list from the same ip/netblock ?
—> Are some of these accounts running from known cloud computing netblocks?
(scale, once more)
I mean…. that’s already a good start on this problem.

Wait….you guys are actually being serious!?!? you mean this post wasnt a joke? i was, no word of a lie, laughing at this.
It sounds funny and out there… but it is actually happening. At first i didn’t want to believe it but it is real. I’ve been teamed with/against many of these bots….. once i started recognising the pattern, i knew i had to post about this shocking and disgusting development on the spvp scene.
I can confirm having 3 people who did not speak on my team , our thief (only other real player) , went home at the start , all 3 of the bots followed her. they capped home , then all moved together , exactly together from one place to another
Once you know what you are looking for, it’s much easier to spot, that’s for sure.
I can confirm this is happening in NA silver, but i can’t confirm on other ratings/divisions.
So let me preface this by saying that this isn’t speculation, but the real deal : these bots are out there and gaining loot as we speak. You may even have been seeded with some in your last match. Read, be informed, beware and spread the word. Hopefully Anet will do something about this… eventually
What is going on : There is currently people queing multiple bot instances and running them in some sort of array. By queing all the bots together, they can weight matches in various ways ( map voting—> related to map pathing / scoring/ gangups).
How does it work : The bots are mostly running condi-type builds . Spotted in the wild : Condi engy with turrets, necro, mesmer, traps druid defensive, burn guard defensive. Individually the bots are weak to middling, with bad rotations and fighting/capping reflexes. However when multiple bots are seeded in a team, they will always path/roam together and 2-3 man condi burst people ( then switch to next target or if no targets—> move to closest cap).
How to spot them : There is a definite preference for asuras and “fish-derived” names ( sushi, sashimi, little sharkie, etc), but all races have been observed. Different guild tags observed. The bots will always hook up, and path together. They will always fight together ( and multi-condi spike). They have a tendency to get pulled ( thru rotation teleports/jumps/charges) off spots normal humans would fight ( aka in the middle of nowhere, you’ll see 2-3 people randomly fighting and chasing people instead of capping). They have low cap awareness. They will stack to fight, then leave….after 5 seconds you can usually get back and recap. The worst mistake you can do is feeding the array in middle fights. Backcap em.
How did we get here? : Since rewards are now participation based, someone figured out that you could make a lot of gold and materials by running pvp bots 24/7 . The new thing is running the bots in array : now you will have weighted matches where the team with the most bots will get “fed” bots from it’s own array. No matter what happens, every bot gets money and loots. Do it enough, and suddenly it’s possible to equip with ascended equipment these " battlebots" for sale on the alternate gaming markets ( gold/toons with pinkies for real money) while controlling the match environment ( via map selection/bot stacking).
As you can imagine, it is not with a happy heart that i am reporting these shenadigans but with utter disgust. While the game can have… questionable balance at times, the primary thing with spvp is that you were fighting other humans. they could surprise you with unexpected moves… when you queue and you’re seeded with these bots ( or fighting them) the whole purpose of fighting other humans is disrupted. Might as well play pve….

mad king rune birds are an actual thing : damage ( often over 4K) ANd adrenaline ( from all the bird hits) …. it makes it an excellent fight starter combined with SoR.
Air strike grenades are in no way balanced for general wuvwuv.

Personally i’m running a marauder style gs/rifle right now . Honestly i prefer the feel of the zerky gs/rifle , especially when you use those 3 seconds of quickness on primal burst to setup devastating choppah rushes . ( 5—} f2—-} 2—- } f1—-} 3 + forward —-} wepswitch ---} f1 or 3 == much love )
I know also a good viper/sinister bernzerker build, but that’s now mostly restricted to bow+swd/torch ( and i blame king of fire nerf). But that’s what i was doing mostly last season, so i decided to mix it up a lil’ bit.
I know ostrich wanted to challenge himself and play some warrior this season….. which to me is interesting since i’ve known him a long time. I’m sure we’re gonna have a constructive chat at the end of the season if he keeps up with it.
This with the KoF changes are straight-up nerfs to burnzerkers.
Well, it is SOMETHING… perhaps SoF/to_the_limit will be usable again to “pre-boost” as you would be dropped to 2 bars by the time your burst skill launched with the earlier adrenal combat rules.
Unecessarry nerf, makes fighting a necro/mesmer even more ridiculous ( as they can instant-strip your resistance away) .
Seriously what the mewmew were they thinking …
So rifle is supposed to get buffed.
But really, let’s talk about the real elephant in the room, which is range.
You want to give rifle more " utility" ? Make it have range 1300~1350 while traited.
Imagine this! Suddenly Crack shot is worth it again! While still lower than traited ranger longbow, it would give traited rifle a very slight range advantage which is something that every warrior could certainly use ( and would probably excite the meta ).

Honestly the way I see it is that while some parts of the season were a success ( mostly at increasing participation) , overall “pro season 1” will be seen as a complete failure on several levels. Until Anet stops hiding, disengages truthiness and starts to get real with us the spvp community will feel rightfully screwed about the whole thing.
1) Anet need to admit they f!@#$ed up . Not only for not doing major balance adjustments before the season, but also for the overall division+MMR weighting involved in the matchmaking, the piploss/win_game_but_losepip bugs, and all the other shenadigans we are all angry about.
2) Anet needs to prove they can finally get a clue and learn from their mistakes. They had 2 “test seasons” with invincible turret engineers ( which forced their hand to nerfbat it because all tournament teams were bringing 15-25 turret builds at that point) and yet didn’t clue in that _imbalances poison the meta_. We all got (rightfully) angry at the start of the season because anet proved ( sadly, once again) that they didn’t learn anything from their test season fiasco. While anet DID do a balance " pass" (mostly because the forumsphere blew up when no balance patch was announced) the pass only barely started digging them out of the hole they are in.
3) There needs to be a better tournament structure. No soloQ. Not resetting/normalising/readjusting MMR pre-season (which screwed the vets) and not adjusting the division weighting was also a mistake. ( lower divisions should count for a much bigger " slice" of the adjusted matchmaking score)
It hurts to say it, but this is what needs to happen for confidence to return.
How it played out:
- Solo queue teams (casuals) pitted against full guild team premades, feeding undeserved wins to premades and undeserved losses to solo queue players
- Players realizing quickly they can tank MMR at a new tier lock to increase their chance of winning the five in a row needed to progress.
- The Elite Specs dominate the meta, forcing everyone who plays PvP to give up their favorite build (and in some cases favorite class) in order to be competitive
- Pro players finding the greatest utility in the Elite Specs and the meta reduced down to only four classes and four builds (effectively bringing back “build wars” as we’ve never seen it before in GW2)
- ESL Pro team members publicly trashing the league system and new meta in their private streams
- ESL Pro teams rage quitting early match
- ESL Pro team members attempting to solo queue ranked and publicly resorting to tactics others get banned for (purposely going AFK on steam to lower MMR)
It’s a huge mess. What I would like is for ArenaNet to own it’s failure on this. They should shut the ranked season down altogether, but they won’t do that

I fought a warr using old spec, and he kicked my kitten , his attacks were well timed and faster than my cast times for most of my skills. Warrs are deadly in the right hands.
and in the next 180 secs, he’ll be useless and a sitting duck while waiting for rampage to recharge :P
Laugh all you want, but that warrior DID win that clutch fight by blowing his rampage. IF his teamates aren’t completely dumb they’ll stay on the cap ( cuz bunk meta obv) grind up some points.
the finesse of rampage is NOT to blow it at the first opportunity : the finesse is to use is when it’s clutch so you win fights.
i like stronghold because it makes certain meta builds weaker ( mostly because of all the moving around involved) and that it also encourages people to play strategically and use other heroes than turai ( in fact my xmas pimpcoat svaard was mvp of the match the other day )

You realise this means warriors can now only realistically bring 2 elites to your little shindig, SoR and headbutt, further kittening over " full physicals" zerk warriors ( who are already boned enough from this stupid and ridiculous blodge meta) You have to keep beating on the class everyone is feeling bad for right now ?
As a wearer of fully ascended traveler’s celestial ( with either zerk or rampage/sinister/celes trinks depending if playing impact/condi builds) i’m feeling triple discriminated by your ridiculous rules. While I do “wear celes”, I am mosdef not running a bunker build.
If you were serious you would wait for the post-season-balance patch before even TRYING to make some kind of tournament.

Honestly I though that after two " test seasons" under invincible turrets ( where the final tournament comp was looking like a 25 turret build) Anet would have learned to do at least a balance PASS pre season. A pass means they try to fix the grossest things and , you know, will keep iterating until they get things just right.
Did they do this for this first " pro season "? Of course not.
When i saw this, and colin on " damage control mode" saying that a balance patch would only happen after the tournament, at first i thought he was joking. Then I realised he was serious.
What Tarcis says here hits the nerve because ultimatly a broken meta impacts the very spirit of competition that we all want to see in spvp. Instead, we get MMR tanking, losing pips when someone on your team Dc/afks , “high level comp enforcement” and more ridiculousness.
I can’t say i’m impressed. It hurts to say this, because i love spvp deep in my heart.

btw most of the specpatch builds are still valid, and bezerker line opens up 2 main " branches" : stabzerker and CoF burnzerker , both of which are quite valid.
Now obviously pvp is gonna be a kittenshow for at least another month and a half because anet refused foolishly to make a balance pass prepvp-season ( and thus proving they learned NOTHING from the 2 test seasons with invinci-turrets)

oldschool zerk gs/hammah from spec patch ( altho i run it with quick bursts). most will run it with hoelbrak for the mightstackage and condi protection. in spvp with runes of strenght it’s not bad too.
if you’re a condi build, it’s very difficult to use Torch because every mainhand (including mainhand sword) has pretty bad condi to absolutely zero condi application
So you’re saying that someone with torch ( and hence access to primal bursts) has no option…………….. when mainhand swd and mace are now gamechangers for condi builds ( cuz firepews & confusmack primal bursts)
I am happy to report that patch “iteration” seems to have resolved the issue. The cutscene with eir & faolain triggered and the boss battle could now be done .

They nerfed gunflame hitting twice ( which was frankly a little op) . They also " fixed" rampage because of the moral panic ( warriors are winning! op!) in like, a week and a half after spec patch hit? so honestly i dunno.
I herocap grinded like a crazy person to get my bezerker spec days before dulfy posted herocap guides…. i worked for it, i’m using it ( with disc and defense, obv) and while i’m still evaluating it, overall the trait tree itself isn’t that bad ( multiple good options, many " builds" using bezerker possible, traits that actually matter for something).
If the rest of you dont want to use it, don’t!
The storyline quest “Prisoners of the Dragon” crash-bugs the moment I liberate Eir and Faolain. I see that there’s some kind of tree/wine snapping and the game tries to do a cutscene of some kind…. and instead ends up crashing. Tried 3 times over the weekend with several “must-patch” revisions not fixing the issue.

As for topic : tier 3 right now is mostly balanced due to the “refugee” guilds of tier 2 that nicely helped rebalance some of the coverage issues with t3 servers. My main issue at the moment is that the tier 2 implosion means medium term some of us may be forced to move uptier, and i personally don’t relish another tour of the kittenshow that was the tier 2 season 2+3 where coveragewars2 played out just like we expected it to go ( yay recapping from paper every day because people are qzerging you while people are sleeping/working/real-life-ing). At least we maintained our reputation for fearlessness , savagery and wackness.
i’m much much more of a spvp playa, but i like to do roamer tag/pugmander and start kitten up. I like the fact that maguuman roamers are strong and mostly know what to do, it makes the whole thing a lot smoother.
i updated my build a frew days postpatch, but here’s a celestial bow + swd/axe (hybrid/offensive) build.

With healsig, balanced stance, dolyaks signet, signet of fury, signet of rage ( for doublee stunbreakers and stability+ autodefypain from traits, instant utility-based adrenaline pumpup)
CELES AMU, rune of the mad king ( number 6 is important to pump up furious pre spike)
bow with leech sigil + fire sigil
swd/axe with blood sigil + rage sigil
Signet precision gives enough prec to be in the 50-70% crithit range, using signet of rage (with madrunes) means that your whole adrenaline bar gets filled (because of madking 6 ravens) and furious gets pumped/maxed, allowing you to combushot and jump in ( crit) and fastspin because rage runes (spreading firepews and recharging adren) for flurry + final thrust & another bow rotation
{In pvx i would use hoelbrak/antitoxin/melandru + leek and poultry ( natually) for the autocleanse and I would modify the arms grandmaster to dualweld ( since you can play better with equipment to get enough condipow}
