Yeah, this is one way to deal with it. Or you could put in a bug report about it. Guess which one is likely to be more effective at fixing the problem?

How did this thread reach 1k+ posts..
If you die for any reason other than technical problems/bugs it’s your own kitten ed fault. You don’t have skill. Get better at the game or suffer.
End of story.

There were a number of technical problems/bugs. (Josh admitted that the geysers were bugged and in his words were “terribad”.) Many posts are documenting bugged areas, or areas that are too unforgiving to any amount of latency. A lot of the posts complaining about “nerfs” have not looked at the changes in the context of the dialogue going on in this thread.

This is a thread where you have to skip to the end. You can’t enter it at any point but the end because it’s a continually evolving conversation about the state of the game.

You’re having syncing issues and lag. That’s why you die even though it appears you landed correctly because your client and the server disagree with your position. That’s also why you rubberband. The simple fact is, somewhere between you and the server is failing you. It has nothing to do with glitch game mechanics. I, and more than enough other people can attest to having never experienced those issues even once. If the game itself was glitchy that wouldn’t be possible. Everyone would have had to experience the problem at least once. If an entire subset of people have no idea what you’re talking about then the problem isn’t in the base game. It’s something that is happening between you and them.

As for streaming and uploading, that doesn’t have even half of the intricacies of a real time game. It also has protocols set up to compensate for lag that the game simply can’t account for, let alone accomplish.

Hope that helps.

For world 2, you have to drop down from the rainbow that’s over the yeti’s head at the end of zone 3.

Pfft great job on failing to read. And also good job on making some bizzare classification theory based on name?
I’m sorry but going by that you flaunting your characters in your every post is a much bigger indication of self importance.
I have not failed any jumps. I made exact same jump to exact same spot with diviation in no more then a few dozen pixels in 4 cases I died in 2 I did not. If you can’t grasp the point of that statement what does that say about your so called “skills”.
And on that topic this game has never required skills. Of any kind. The only people that talk about “skills” are those who need attention or to reaffirm their self imposed importance. I hate to break it to you but just because you think you have “skill” doesn’t actually make it so… imaginary concept or otherwise.

Well I certainly lack skill where interpreting your posts is concerned because I have no idea what you’re talking about, pretty much from beginning to end. I don’t understand what you mean by “flaunting” my characters. I’m unclear on your concept of making pixel perfect jumps. It sounds like you just missed 4 times and lagged a 5th. I’m mostly unable to interpret your point, short of you don’t like it and you’re not Chinese.

You tell me that MMOs are not made for one person, but then you act like if they’re not made for you they’re not made right. Well, I hate to break it to you, but the same logic applies. It’s made for me, and I’m not the only person like me playing the game. So it hasn’t gone to waste. You don’t like it, fine, done play it, it wasn’t made for you in the first place.

Tribulation Honeycomb W1Z3 - Need help!

Kal Spiro.9745

This really isn’t that difficult…

The third obvious platform is a fake out. Walk to the edge of the second platform and look around the corner to the right, you will see the edge of a platform. Do a corner jump to it.

From there look down the left intersection. Jump to that platform as well. Now, when you turn left again that is the same fake platform as before. But directly under the corner is a pillar you can jump to. Don’t go to far. From there just follow the only available path.

You don’t want to go straight where the fake platform is anyway, cause that’s not the correct path to reach the honeycomb. It’s a dead end.

I just don’t find tribulation mode concept to be fun at all. It’s a maze with a single route that you need to follow.

May have sounded cool and interesting on paper, but in practice it was a flop for me.

Then it wasn’t designed for you, which is ok. It was designed for me, who finds that sort of thing incredibly entertaining and worth doing over and over.

Mmos aren’t designed for you alone. Cupcake.

Well done. Thankfully that’s not what I said. But if you can’t follow along, that’s alright. I wasn’t talking to you.

Heres a fun fact about “frustration and spend $$$ mode” I pixel compared specifically jumping into exact same spot 6 times. 1 continue basically. First 4 times I died… then i got rubberbanded and died and ONLY ONCE did I not simply not die at my 0th life I was able to walk all around that spot w/o falling into lava/rockets/anything else.

No its not challenging. Its a good business strategy to force perfectionists/achivement whores/really bored/in need of attention/etc to buy stuff from cash shop. But nothing past that.
Kind of like being forced into dailies if you want acended weapon. Why?
Do I look chinese to you people? Do you think my sole joy in life is mindlessly repeating the same thing thousands of times until I get blisters? Do you think I live in a closet and my mom has a no limit credit card? No actually my free time is limited… I actually have a job.

I can tell by your user name that you’re a classy dude, and probably have a fair to high opinion of your abilities. But I’m sorry to say that the problems you had were not in the game, they were on your end. Rubberbanding is on your system, and simply failing to make the jump if on your skill. There isn’t a single jump in the game that can’t be made normally with the appropriate level of skill. It isn’t shameful if you lack it, but it is a bit to then complain about the system and the company and the game just because you fail.

Rapids as it was initially implemented was not good. Rapids after the “nerf” is right where it should be following World 1. The rest of World 2 isn’t that hard. Some of it is a bit tedious, and Zone 2 is annoying because of the sword assassins, but other than that it’s not that tough either.

The realy answer is, if someone likes it then it was a success.

I like it. I really enjoyed Tribulation Mode because I entered Tribulation Mode understanding what to expect and what it would be like. I knew that I would die repeatedly and why.

I’m not a fan of the Storm Wizards, but I’m certain it’s because I don’t understand a mechanic I’m supposed to be using after it reaches 50%. That’s where most of these “This isn’t good” threads go wrong. It isn’t that it isn’t good, it’s that you don’t like it, or don’t understand it. Rather than saying it’s not good just accept that maybe it’s not for you and move on. If you liked world one, play world one. It’s still there and it’s still fun.

This is not a design that ANet supports for a reason. Just because it’s out of combat doesn’t mean it doesn’t have balancing effects. The idea is supposed to be that you use one set and stick to it. It’s the same reason you can’t completely change your trait lines on the fly.

That you choose to play differently is on you. But you’re not going to get support for that style.

It would be nice to at least be able to keep the icon image and the name while upgrading the stats via transmutation stones. For whatever reason, I can’t bring myself to toss it, but it’s just taking up inventory space.

I like this idea. I would not be willing to use a transmutation stone for something that only I can see, though.

Tribulation mode was hard the first time, because the first time you were just strugling with where the traps were. Once you know where they are it’s no longer a challenge.

LOL of course it is too easy. You and everyone else who have complete it have brought the infinite life token.

Difficulty have no meaning if you have a lot of free time and no penalty. Anyone can do it if they don’t mind dying a few hundred or thousand time and can spare 30 to 40 hours doing it over and over again.

I won’t call this fun or anyone who done it skilled. I’ll most likely do it myself at the last week of SAB for my achivements points. ATM I have better things to do now like farming for ascended gears.

For world 1 it took about an hour or two total and one run of normal mode W1 worth of bubbles to beat. Just cause you can’t handle it doesn’t mean the ICC is worth anything. It’s a convenience, nothing more.

If you are planning to start having contents that are targeted only for certain players then please let us causal players know in advance….The gantlets champ 1v1 fight were already hard and now this….I understand that you need to satisfy both casual and hardcore players but I guess this is going to be the new way of things.

Congratz to the players that complete this achievement.

How were you not informed? Especially for Tribulation Mode? Everything about it explained what it was, and it isn’t like it’s the only content. You can still play the base game.

It’s cool until you run into an ice hill. In any other game the momentum you build up moving toward the hill would be used to propel you up, but in this case you are stopped cold because the momentum of gravity instantly defeats whatever momentum you have otherwise.

Agree with the OP, it might be a little over the top on the slopes surrounding a certain boss but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

I think perhaps it would be better utilised as a dungeon mechanic, rather than open world, where it could really be used to create some interesting fights.

Though I suppose a skating event on the lake in Hoelbrak could be fun.

They should implement ice into keg brawl

As someone who got the Backpack because it was cool and because Josh made it clear there was a very good chance that the skins would not be available for the return I can say I definitely feel that they should return.

I only ever half liked the backpack. The blue didn’t go with my character who wears green. The new green backpack and gear go amazingly well with it.

I feel that all the blue weapons should return for World 3, but the blue backpack shouldn’t return until World 4 and beyond. I just think that would be better. I am also in favor of a suggestion in another thread of the return of the backpack having a different name, just so those people who want to have something exclusive can, but those that just want the skin can too.

It’s infinite continue coins, not infinite health.

Even if it were infinite health that would actually make it less useful because Tribulation Mode kills you, period. Your hearts need not apply.

I did world one in roughly 100 deaths per zone. That’s 20 continue coins. That’s not that big a deal to acquire.

Saying easy with infinite coin in your inventory. Oh the irony…

ICC doesn’t make TM easy, it only reduces downtime. It doesn’t even make it easier, it just means you’re in Moto Hell half as often and you don’t have to stop occasionally to resupply coins. It allows you to do it in one run per zone rather than a couple. Once you’ve gotten past an area you’re pretty much good for it anyway.

I’m assuming this is World 1 Zone 1 in the last area. Don’t go that way.

Walk right to the tree line, then walk along the right side of the trees. Jump to the little hedge by the cliff/mountain. Don’t go up or you’ll die. Then jump to the bit of rock right at the corner. You’re right on the edge of a spike trap here. Jump around the corner to safe area.

It’s much more straight forward and safer.

Kal:
3 is how many normal lives you get. How is that absurd? 100 deaths is easy? Really? I find that if you die 100 times to anything that it was a challenge to complete. I am not sure why you find dying 100 times to anything easy. Most players will easily cave in far before 100 deaths.

Where do you get 3 from? You either get 1 life, good for 2 runs, or 5 lives from a coin good for 6 runs.

The reason 100 deaths is easy is because we’re operating on a whole separate scale than it appears you’re prepared for. It has taken me 10 deaths just to realize I’m not allowed to take a specific path and need to find a different way around. It’s taken me 3 deaths just to mark the boundaries of spike traps to know exactly where I have to avoid.

Dying three times in a dungeon means the encounter is difficult because I gave it my all but I wasn’t able to stay up. Dying several times in Tribulation Mode is nothing because you don’t get hurt you just die, instantly.

I didn’t even get out of World 1 Zone 1 Area 1 in less than 3 deaths. Surrounded by spikes with a cloud just on the other side and something weird on the tree. I assume going toward the cloud is stupid so I go the other way. I climb the tree no problem. I get the thing and jump down onto a hedge in the spikes. Giant clouds appear next to me between where I started and the cloud. I don’t move, they charge up and I fall in the spikes, death one.

I do it over, this time jumping off the hedge immediately. Flag waypoint. I start heading for the other end, the ground isn’t there I fall in lava, death two.

From the way point I move in a different direction, touch a flower, it blows up, death three.

I haven’t even made it to the middle of the area and I’ve exceeded your expectations.

Congrats. I’ll keep that in mind when I put together TM for the next world.

The thing to take in mind is that the more options we have to getting from point A to point B the move fun you can have killing us. The more constrained the path the less you can do to interfere, short of making us rush.

how many deaths? Did you look at a walk through? If you died more than 3 times I wouldn’t say It was overly easy.

Three is absurd. You’ll get three just finding out there was a trap there. If you get under a hundred in a zone then it was pretty easy. That’s what I was doing in World 1. Granted I think World 2 Zone 1 may be as big as world 1 so that value might need working on.

I’m definately doing it again tomorrow to get a second pistol. There is a problem though. It doesn’t appear that the weapons fit properly in Asura hands.

It’s not that difficult. Step into maze holding right and turn left. Jump across to mat. Jump across to ground. Move around corner carfully and kill frog. Hug left edge of maze. Move up and turn right. Jump to mat in front of you and move up. The mat in front of you now is fake. Turn right and jump around corner of maze to edge of mat. Move forward and turn at left intersection. Jump to mat and turn left. The mat in front of you is the same fake one from before, jump to corner of mat, there is a pillar there. Turn right, and jump to mat. From here it’s pretty straight forward.

Alright, having finally finished world 1 I have to say, I find it interesting that they each got progressively easier. I don’t know how many lives I went though in zone 1, but it was definately over a hundred. In zone 2 it was only 104 and zone 3 it was 90 even. It would have been less if I hadn’t kept dying on lily pads when I wasn’t touching the water.

Alright, so problems I’ve had with World 2

Relentless mobs. In World 1 the sprites would chase you, but they tended to give up pretty easily. In World 2, especially the assassins, they just refuse to give up. It’s very frustrating.

Excessive use of short duration “ledges.” I’m pretty sure the idea is not to travel up the river by the spouts, but I need to work on that before I accept it. In any case there is no time to make a decision, you have to act act act, which is stressful. If I want stress I’ll play Tribulation Mode… which I will. I like a fun and easy going, if not specifically easy experience in the normal mode.

Ice on hills. There is no way to get momentum up a hill of ice. There is at least one spot where it make sense this should be a thing, but it’s not. The result is a very annoying jumping fit trying to fight gravity to get to the next area. I get that the idea here is supposed to come into effect later for boss and mini boss fights so that you can easily fall off the peak. But if I have a ton of forward momentum because the hill was in front of a long track, that shouldn’t be instantly defeated and stopped because of gravity.

To further illustrate the point : http://youtu.be/J9-aUFHIt7c

It’s not difficulty, it’s not even lag, it’s terrible detection. If Josh can watch this and claim everything is fine with the hit detection and the player was at fault in each case, then I really don’t know what to say.

No. That is clearly a terrible experience. Something is obviously terribly wrong there. If I saw anything like this during testing we would have reworked everything. I’ve never claimed anywhere that anyone’s poor experience is because it’s the player’s fault. I don’t think that way. I like to make people happy, believe it or not.

Is this issue (dying randomly and getting pushed off rocks constantly) happening to you? If so, is it happening as frequently as this video shows? If this is anything more than an edge case than we have a serious problem that will necessitate some serious solution. Thanks for pointing it out.

I experienced bizarre knockbacks in that river portion as well. It looked just like that. I am guessing it is a synchronization issue.

I’m also experiencing the same thing here. Not had any problems with anything so far but this bit just pushes me around randomly. Once I got tossed back and forth like a ball not even getting my health down most of the tossing so it took a while to actually die. Sometimes standing on a rock will end up pushing me into the water without any movement from my side.

I experienced a similar situation in tribulation mode world 1 zone 1 after gate 3. The point where you have to jump on two rocks to avoid lava, before the bee dogs. It only happened a couple time, but every time I jumped onto the first rock I would suddenly die as if I’d fallen into the lava below. Then it stopped.

I assumed it was some sort of sync problem. Why it started happening, and why it stopped are beyond me.

It’s cool, it could happen to anyone dealing with something as complicated as an MMO engine.

Especially someone using an engine to do things it wasn’t actually intended to do.

I found myself trying to anticipate Josh’s thinking, and what was really fun is the confirmation of that. I would go the way I thought would be safe according to what I had learned so far. I am proud to say I was often right. Then sometimes I’d get lazy and when I was repeating a section I would think; “Maybe I don’t have to go all the way around that tree, maybe Josh didn’t dead…, ah.”

This exactly. When I started saying to myself, “I shouldn’t go that way, that’s where a trap will be,” only to find out later due to a misstep that I was completely right, it was extremely gratifying.

I took his one post very much to heart when he said the key was to get inside the mind of the developer to anticipate his cruelty. I think I’m doing pretty well with that, even if I’ve only finished Zone 1, but then I haven’t actually started Zone 2 yet.

I can’t believe anyone likes those skins anyway. They don’t even look like the old ones from the first event release.

That’s what I thought too. I was a little disappointed, though I do like the hammer and pistol. I love the pistol just cause it’s the Nintendo pistol controller.

SAB Skins. Weekend players need not apply?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Now as the OP mentioned weekend players there are only 9 days that fall on Saturday and Sunday. That only gets them 32 baubles.

First off it’s 8, because it started on the 3rd, not the 1st. Counting the expected 250 baubles it’s also 8.

8 times 8 is 64, that’s a weapon skin with bubbles to spare. So even if they can only play on the weekends they can still get a weapon skin. Obviously people with more time can do more, and get more, but this is how things should be. They’re not left out.

I’m a little upset with myself for not seeing this ridiculously glaring mistake right from the start.

Why would players get SAB rewards w/o doing SAB?

hmm idk .. maybe because it’s SAB month 0.o? and because we have limited amount of baubles… and countless death >.> and it will help new players since they don’t have much gold with them to buy the infinite continue coin.

In that case get continue coins, as suggested in the above posts, would be way better solution.
Players would get incentive to do SAB and then be rewarded with baubles.

I could also accept a reward of a single bauble bubble for dailies. This would not give anyone enough bubbles to get a reward, but it would allow those who really don’t enjoy SAB but like the skins to have to do less of SAB to get the skins, and also allow those who apparently have such massive time constraints as to only be able to do a very little SAB to marginally augment their ability to get bubbles.

SAB Skins. Weekend players need not apply?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Sorry, but if someone can’t spend even 15 minutes on the game any day of the week what do they expect exactly? For most things a Weekend player who can only muster up a handful of hours isn’t going to be able to fully experience the content. That is just a thing.

But if they have all that time, and it really matters then push through. Get as many baubles as you can manage to convert into bubbles. If you can do a run in 15, even without the bubbles you should have enough extra baubles to offset the difference and get at least one weapon.

Why anyone would even need every skin is beyond me. I’m going for two World 1 Tribulation pistols because they’re kind of neat for my thief and I can potentially get them in a day each, but of the rest I could care less. I do plan to buy a hammer for my guardian cause he’s Asura, but that’s it.

You are missing the point. No one is saying that they don’t want to put in the time, but for many people the daily time is not possible.

And lets say we use your 15 minutes example. 15 min/8 bubbles/day. That means it would take 7 days to get a skin. At 15 min each that is 105 minutes for a skin. For someone who has real life responsibilities and can’t log in daily, the same skin would take 10-12 hours to earn.

So you would put in a sixth of the effort for the same reward. A reward that is account bound, vanity only, meant to be fun and funny, not able to be bought with gems, etc.

Plus the days I do get some time, I like to play with my kid in game, and she likes to..I don’t know, see the world and play the game. I bought her the skins she wanted as she is a clumsy oaf of a child and can’t jump worth beans.

Anyway, there shouldn’t be a system in place where more effort = less reward. Thats what this change created.

Oh, I’m definitely against their decision to restrict things to account bound only, heavily reducing how much anyone can get. But that is how it is, and I have an issue with the concept that someone can’t manage to put together 15 minutes at least often enough to play 6 different days. To get at least one reward for the effort.

The concept that people are able to get all the weapons is an absurd complaint because who cares? Why would anyone need them all? If you can get one, good, if you can get a couple then be happy for a couple. No one needs all of them.

So I picked up the coin for 36 gold, and I feel it was worth it. I didn’t feel like waiting as long as I would have had to by actually farming coins, thanks to the once per account nonsense.

For me the hardest part was the chasm. Second to Third gate path. Mostly it was just having difficulty making the jumps fast enough to stay ahead of the rocks. The last two areas were surprisingly easy, actually. I was almost, but only almost, sorry there weren’t any special surprises in the final boss fight.

There’s a method to it that makes you more consistent.

There usually are. But since I’m trying to do it on my own before learning what others figured out, I didn’t come up with it.

I’d rather see continue coins as daily rewards as an incentive for players to check out the SAB, but since those already drop in PvE aplenty, I don’t really see the need.

This is reasonable.

The first time SAB was released the timer was really short for the W1Z2 boss. IF you fell at the end you lost the chest. Im happy to see they have it set for like 45 secs now which is in the top right hand corner.

Yeah, but W1Z1 is still only 15 seconds, that’s the problem.
