The only buff this skill needs is an increase to the active healing. I rarely active it, even in emergencies; it’s simply more effective to keep it passive and cast my health back up.

I play PvE with reduced glyph recharge and I use this skill over Glyph of Renewal. That’s how good it is.

Tengu and Cantha. They had a strong presence in Cantha, and they’re the only minor race that already has a capital city, which I presume every race is going to have.

A legendary is an enormous investment. If you’re not sure, 100%, that this is the weapon type and skin that you want, then maybe you shouldn’t be crafting it.

Just do what I do and make him bald. Admittedly, the best face you’re going to get will make him look mixed at best. We’ll get better options when we get access to Elona, just like in GW1.

7/10 – If you’d made up a proper first name (even something like Avatrus) I’d have given you 10/10. Magintie fits the world, sounds like a human surname, and even has “magi” in it.

I play a noble ele named Beacon of Kormir. He’s the direct descendent of my paragon from GW1, who settled in Kryta after his adventures in Nightfall and Eye of the North.

I’m going to figure out a better dye combo one of these days. Right now I’m happy to be in an armor that I almost never see other players in. I love the headgear; it reminds me of the floating headger eles had in GW1, which I miss.

So I’m running around the Queen’s Pavillion with the zerg last night. I play a staff ele specced for defense, mainly healing. Another staff ele is playing near me; we’re killing the destroyer boss. Occasionally he’ll say “Healing on me!” People immediately group on him, he hits water, drops his healing fields and pops them. A bunch of players say thank you.

This happens a bunch of times through the night. He’s working midline, while I tend to work frontline. Players are just soaking up the Water Blast’s; it’s clear that our healing is beneficial and appreciated. It’s times like this that make it so satisfying to play support.

When I took my tanky warrior through the same content, I was thankful for my defenses. They kept me alive so I could revive all of my zerker friends who kept getting 1-shot. It’s so much fun when we all work together.

Now can we stop arguing about this nonsense?

There are two major problems with Balathazar:

1) The pre-event chains are too long, as noted by Doctor Orderly, and they’re not very fun. The three of them cover most of the zone. The only time the temple get reliably cleared on my server is when one of the big guilds decides to do it.

2) The morale mechanic during the final assault is not fully understood by players. Most people are used to wandering around a bit during an event, but unless everyone stays right on top of the Pact that bar goes down fast. Part of this is because it’s difficult to keep track of the Pact soldiers. The NPCs get swallowed in the zerg and there’s no visual representation of the morale circle.

The solutions are simple. First, trim up the pre-events and/or put a second rare in Balth’s bonus chest. Second, increase the size of the Pact morale bubble and give us a clear visual representation of it on the field. Something players have to notice that will incentivize them to stay together.

My server is packed pretty full. The nightly boss train is thick with players, and when we get tossed into overflow it’s a major frustration. Karka Queen and Shadow Behemoth are bad for this. Overflow works for getting players into the zone, but you’re suddenly removed from the event schedule. Sometimes the boss will pop up in the overflow server, sometimes not.

With all servers merged, most of the population would be in overflow most of the time. How would be any better than separate servers? With so many full overflow servers, it would become very difficult to catch the same server as your friends. Let’s say all of the bosses are put on the same timer for all servers, including overflow. How does this handle pre-events? Pact is assaulting Balth, so you head over there…and hit an overflow where the invasions haven’t even launched yet. Let’s say one overflow decides not to do an event, or takes an hour longer to do it. So you show up for Shatterer and hit an overflow where he’s not even in window for another half hour.

And yes, load times are much worse when you’re going to a heavily populated spot. If I’m not in Sparkfly before Tequatl spawns I get five minutes of load and lag before my game even displays my character model. I expect one merged server would only make that worse.

I dislike the new staff

A Staff is a 2 handed weapon, like a greatsword, they should be similarly impressive and ornate.

I agree. Just look at the Pearl weapons. The greatsword is large and detailed and beautiful and the staff is…depressing. The Seraph set is the same way. Here’s my list of good staves:

Zenith
Mystic/Inquest
Gnarled Walking Stick
Fractal
Super
Dragon’s Jade
Bifrost

What do these seven have in common? They all have large headpieces and/or glowing effects. If you look at the GW1 staves, they have much larger headpieces and more magical effects than our current choices. And they all look great, even the basic skins! This thing is better than half of the staves in GW2.

And what about all of the awesome earth staff skins ? Who can forget the Dolyak Prod Staff ? What happened to the love, ANet?

Water combat: great or suicidal?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

It really depends on the class. For my warrior and ranger, with a spear and all my signets intact? It’s fantastic. For my ele, with half my skills culled, including my good glyphs, only one elite, and only one weapon option with terrible skills? It’s not so great.

Instead of skills being completely unavailable underwater, these skills should simply have an underwater version. Please give me one good reason why I shouldn’t be able to summon my elementals underwater, or a glyph of storms centered on my target. I don’t mind the change in combat, but I really don’t like having my skills taken away.

What happened to the roaming AI from GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I too have fond memories of that AI. Learning the patrol patterns and strategically cutting my way through the mobs was one of the defining aspects of the game for me. Unfortunately, those dynamics only work on instanced maps. The change to a permanant world meant the roaming AI had to go.

But let’s not forget that the AI in GW1 wasn’t always that good. At first, enemies just stood there and let you stack AoEs on them (and boy was there player outrage when ANet fixed it. How dare the mobs not stand still and let us kill them!) You know, like most of the GW2 enemies do now. The AI will be upgraded in time.

Dailies - the bane of modern games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kalarchis.8635

This is a tricky issue. On the one hand, dailies and once-a-day content, particularly the boss bonus chests, have worked wonders for keeping a lot of people engaged with the game. Without them, I probably wouldn’t log in every day. Like the dailies in GW1, they give me a checklist of things I can do that day for a reward. Every day at 8:00 I log on, say Hi to a number of increasingly familiar faces, and make jokes and kill bosses with them all night. It’s the best experience I’ve had in the game yet.

On the other hand, I completely understand OP’s position. In a non-MMO, I can clear the same amount of content in five thirty-minute sessions as I can in one two-and-a-half hour session. I like the idea of a backlog for dailies, and I expect that the whole daily system will eventualy get a rehaul. What you have to remember about Guild Wars is that it is always a work-in-progress. The difference between GW1 at launch and Eye of the North is staggering. The same will be true of GW2. Be patient and try not to get frustrated and things will work out.

It’s a market. Vendors will put their prices as low as they need to move product and buyers will always go for the cheaper deal. If your items are gathering dust on the TP, your prices are too high. Go scroll down the price listings for Orichalcum sometime; it’s a good laugh.

Elementalist Staff Build Help

Kalarchis.8635

I’ve been running staff-only on my PvE ele since day one. It’s my favorite class/weapon; however, everything floppypuppy said is true. This weapon allows you to drop a huge range of conditions and fields on a group of enemies all at once. If you don’t know how to set the spells up, in what order, mobs will tear you apart. You’re very squishy. But when you do it right, all the spells go off together and enemies just sort of vaporize. It’s very involved to play, but also very rewarding.

This build, with minor skill changes, is the build I use. I use Signet of Restoration instead of Glyph of Harmony, Glyph of Storms instead of Signet of Earth, and Rune of the Undead instead of Dwayna. I have Cleric’s trinkets and my armor is a mix of Cleric’s and Carrion.

With this setup you can heal and cure two conditions off of a group of people simply by switching to water. Here is my primary combo: I start with air and blind with Lightning Surge as I’m running in. Switch to Earth and drop Eruption followed by Glyph of Storms. You’ll have just enought time to switch to fire and drop Lava Font on top of Eruption, which will pop and make area might. Flame Burst and then Arcane Wave inside the Lava Front to make another area might boom. Then go to water and toss around healing and chill fields. Repeat until enemies have been ground into a paste.

Arcane Wave can be used to set off whatever field combo you want. Use with Healing Rain for area healing, or Frozen Ground for area frost armor. Glyph of Storms (fire) + Meteor Shower is heavy damage, but on earth it spreads bleeding and blindness. Not very useful on water or air. Use the glyphs of elementals when in tight spots or before entering battle. Fire eles are weak but have the highest damage, water can heal and chill, air are ranged and give swiftness, and earth are very, very tough. In a group I use fire eles for damage, but solo I use the earth eles to tank.

When in a jam you have plenty of ways to stop enemies, drop your conditions, pop swiftness and bolt. Remember that we have the smallest health pool of any class and light armor. Have a plan, play defensively, and keep a cool head. Good luck to you.
