GW2 on PS4?

My computer monitor is a big-screen TV so…

The problem with putting the game on a console is licensing and distribution. ANet has expressed disinterest in physical, boxed releases of the game. They much prefer digital copies and only want to have one box of the game out. Each release on a console means new contracts, new boxes, more shipping, more middlemen, etc etc.

It also means remapping the controls to a new controller and getting the game working on the PS4/X-Bone architecture. That means whole new sets of bugs for each console. It also means finding a way to get all three online networks playing together, which is its own legal and technical nightmare.

In the end, it’s just easier and more practical to keep it PC-only

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kalarchis.8635

Its strong anger at having PvP stuff shoved into an achievement where it simply does not belong.

Now that its required for the Map Completion achievement, I very intentionally WON’T do WvW. I will leave that map completion at 95%, and every time that I login, I will see that achievement banner; and every time I see someone with a gold star by their nameplate, I will be reminded that ArenaNet thinks its okay to try to shove a playstyle down my throat just to fatten their own pocketbook. And I’ll remember how much that ticks me off.

Calm down, step back, and evaluate. Is this really something to get so upset about? Is it really worth taking it personally?

Look there’s a difference between being frustrated and throwing a temper tantrum. This is not something worth writing off WvW or not finishing your map completion over. Stop taking it personally, stop obsessing over it, grit your teeth and get it done. Once it’s over you’ll be glad you did it and all of this anger will seem ridiculous in retrospect.

Tharian the build you linked is classic bunker ele which will do you just fine (it’s what I’ve been running since launch.) If you still find it’s too squishy you might put those 10 in air into earth instead.

The classes haven’t changed that much. Pretty much any class will effectively serve you in all game modes if you know how to play it. It’s more important that you find a class with a playstyle you enjoy.

However if you’re looking for “ease of use” then warrior or guardian would be good choices.

North America or Europe? If NA then come join us on Fort Aspenwood; strong WvW community, very well established PvE/dungeon/fractal community, boss train every night, large population overall and plenty of folks on almost every map. No ghost towns on this server. Plenty of big guilds for every game mode. Highly recommend it.

Stick with ele. One you’re adapted to the squishiness it’s a very rewarding class to play. If you just can’t take the squish then try engineer; they have similar mechanics and play but have better armor/hp.

Might try mesmer also.

I understand why the “spawn of Mordremoth” theory is appealing but honestly the opposite makes more sense to me. That is: the dragons are parasites sucking away on the planet’s magic (like Lavos) and the Sylvari are the planet’s defense mechanism. Tyria itself spawned the Sylvari specifically to combat the dragons. That’s why they’re immune to corruption and why the devs give them center stage.

I also think the devs just really, really like them.

Are the Six really gone or not? Their power is still very much present. Players can call upon the gods’ power with prayers, npc priests can summon Reapers of Grenth etc, and their statues are still stuffed with energy. So if they left, why is their power still here?

I love the idea. One afternoon I decided to play without WPs and I’ll tell you: it got old fast but it skyrocketed my immersion and appreciation for the beauty of this game.

My boss train would come screetching to a halt though. As for disabling WPs permanently, well…only if we get mounts in return.

What are the best ways to level up?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

1) Complete all of your personal story missions up to your current level (or a couple below.)

2) Find a zone in your level range. Start at the low end of the zone and grab all hearts/POIs/vistas/waypoints. Along the way gather and kill everything you see. Complete every event you can. Have a food buff (+10xp per kill) active and an XP booster too if you have some. Work your way up to the high end of the zone. Complete the zone for extra rewards.

3) Rinse-repeat until level 80.

Healing, is there a substitute?

I play staff ele and it’s about the closest you’ll get. We just did Balthazar and I spent most of the temple assault on water dropping healing on the pact. That said it’s not often you actually need such healing (WvW mostly.) But when the situation calls for it, there’s a reason people say “water fields down.”

I’ve also got 30 in water with reduced recharge on water skills. So yeah, I also miss the healer and took a substitute.

Karka Queen -snip-

Completely agree with all these changes. I retract my earlier assessment.

The fire elemental needs a few tweaks:
-snip-

Force people to fight the Shatterer head-on (where most of its attacks are aimed), and it’d be in a pretty good place. Just have it lay down a damage field to the sides of it or something, I don’t know. Maybe make the turrets actually work and not kick you out when you try to use them.

Thing is it’s a giant fire elemental. If my character can create fire way across the room, surely a giant fire elemenal can too. And I’d expect a swirling fire tornado to be so hot that it’d burn you even by getting close to it. Fireball could be a few milliseconds slower.

Shatt could easily have a lightning field around him like golem does that forces players to take high defensive positions with artillery. It should be like Jormag in that melee is out of the question until some form of stun is delivered. Should have shockwaves like Teq (seriously why don’t most bosses have these?)

Orr Empty

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I don’t know about your server but on Fort Aspenwood we’ve still got plenty of people in Orr every night. It’s not the Cursed Shore Party like it used to be but I certainly wouldn’t call it a ghost town.

There may not be a dedicated farm/exploit at the moment, but there’s still ways to make money here. Doing temple runs pre-to-finish nets you plenty of loot, and gathering is still profitable. Drops from the monsters aren’t that bad either. It’s just not the concentrated champ box factory that everyone has become accustomed to.

99% of waypoints contested is an exaggeration also. No, you can’t go to the temple/Arah WPs unless you take the temple. Yes, a couple other WPs are often contested (let’s ignore Straits for now.) But I assure you that there are enough always-on WPs in Orr to comfortably get you wherever you need to go, with the exception of Temple of Grenth.

You may not find it rewarding, but I sure do, and apparently so do the players that choose to do the event with me. I’m not using Lyssa as a “justification” for annoying event mechanics, we simply disagree on how annoying/rewarding this event this.

Zhaitan fight is not annoying; it’s pathetic. One of the worst and most disappointing parts of the game.

Good place as in tens of zerglings afk autoattacking him from the distance getting fully rewarded? You know you can use summons/pets because they don’t get hit by shock field and then go afk to get a gold medal?

Honestly I didn’t realize that there was a safe spot. I always choose to be on the platform with the field so I’ve never noticed. Everyone that plays with me does the same. If this is true then it definitely needs to be fixed, but it’s hardly reason to shrug off the positive changes they have made to this boss. That said, he does get way too much HP when scaled up.

You stand in the safespot and complain about the lack of challenge? Come closer to him to melee him (for about 3x more damage) from time to time.

Oh I have. I’ve stood on his feet, under his tail, and right in front of his mouth and I’m still complaining about the lack of challenge. Sometimes he’ll put his hand down on you and that’ll do some damage, but it’s not even a real attack, any more than me putting my foot down is an attack on my carpet. This is a giant dragon; there shouldn’t be a safe spot. One swipe of that hand should send the whole afk zerg flying.

Her main mechanics, corrupted gaze, makes completely no sense – turn around for ~45 seconds. I guess you could go destroy risen catapults but who does that? Her mimic attack and zerglings mindlessly using ranged attacks just makes this fight longer because of her constant blocking.

They make perfect sense. It stops all the players from hurting her while her minions tear them apart; works great for her when that champ gorilla is around. Come on now this is Lyssa, patron goddess of illusion and mesmers. Her mechanics are supposed to be about dragging the fight out, summoning annoying illusions, and all kinds of random boons/conditions. Yes, it can be a long and troublesome fight but that’s what makes it rewarding to finish. Essence Snow, she does get a lot of HP but three bosses worth of time is an exaggeration.

Agreed on the Dwayna and Melandru bosses and the Grenth defense event. Perhaps I should say “the rest of Grenth scales well.” “Well” being subjective. Agreed with you and others that scaling on bosses needs a major tune-up.

Teq is far from the only exception. Let’s go down the list:

Fire Elemental – This boss is in a good place. There are embers and fire fields all over the place, plenty of danger to keep the fight active. It’s easy to go down if you’re not careful, but the preevents are relaxing and the fight always goes off without a hitch. A great starter zone boss finally.

Shadow Behemoth – This guy seriously needs new mechanics. He falls too easily and is zero threat. Visually impressive but disappointing.

Frozen Maw – Lasts a little longer these days, but also not much threat.

Jungle Wurm – Too much HP, also no threat. That wurm halfway up the Tower of Nightmares was a much better challenge than this thing.

Fire Shaman – Repetitive. Mechanics are fine but by phase 3 I’m tired of it.

Golem Mark II – Another boss in a good place. The shock fields are great. Golem could attack a little more often, but otherwise this one works.

Shatterer – Most challenge I’ve had out of this fight is the achievement for breaking people out of crystals. This is your new champ, Kral? Glint would have kicked this guy’s kitten . He’s all spark and no bite.

Jormag – First stage is repetitive and second stage is boring. I feel like the deathly chill aura he’s got is just a placeholder for real mechanics. Same with that chain fear. Still, plenty going on, plenty to kill you. Definitely in a better place than Shatt.

Karka Queen – Fantastic, only needs some tweaks: see Zaxares about ten posts down.

Balthazar – Just make the pact and their morale bubble more visible and we’ll be fine.

Lyssa – One of my favorite bosses. Keeps you active (the defense points will troll you if you’re not careful) and the fight mechanics are very fitting of the boss. Would be nice if that gorilla despawned on victory but otherwise this one is great.

Dwayna – Far and away my favorite. Plenty of great lore. The escort and priestess recently got buffed, which is great. Prodding Malchor is relaxing and the statue battle is tough without being overwhelming. Could use some unique mechanics but otherwise wonderful.

Melandru – Too easy. Priest is a pushover and defense event is no challenge. His second phase is more of an annoyance than anything else. Fortunately it’s bugged so you don’t see it very often. Buff that priest up up.

Grenth – Right where it should be. Scales well and plenty of challenge.

There are others but no comment on those. Overall I’d say we’re getting there.

I don’t see any achievements that go the opposite way. Not a single one that can be almost 95% completed doing nothing but PvP and then requires an enormous grueling amount of PvE to grind out the last 5%, maybe, if they get lucky and wait for perfect conditions for months while doing something they don’t enjoy.

Except that that’s the exact situation for every WvW-only player who wants a legendary.

I didn’t like completing the WvW maps either, particularly Borderlands 2 and 3, but I did it, and so did lots of other people. And you know what? Looking back, it wasn’t so bad. The worst part was the waiting. I had more actual trouble completing maps like Malchor’s and certain vistas.

You want that star by your name? Well, you’ve got to earn it. Anyway, doing things you don’t want to do is good for you. Builds character.

Each race tends to have one or two young or old looking faces, but you’re right; mostly we’re confined to a set age range. I think this is partially done to avoid a disconnect with the voice acting. There’s only one voice actor for each race/gender option, and the voices already don’t fit many of the current customization options. It would be really jarring to hear the current male human voice coming out of a young boy.

Because the map that we’re working with now is only a tiny piece of the world. Because I spent many many years in Cantha and Elona in GW1. I have a deep attachment to many of those places and peoples and I very much want to go back and see what’s happened to them.

Is the Jade Sea liquid again? Has the Echovold Forest recovered? What’s the state of Kaineng City and the Empire? What’s Elona like now that the Elon has been dammed? How is life under Palawa Joko? How is he dealing with Kralkatorik, and did he have any contact with Zhaitan? I’ll bet you he did. I’ll bet you he knows all kinds of secrets. I want to pry them out of him and then put him back in the ground where he belongs.

There’s so much to see and do. Why don’t you want new maps?

I enjoyed Tower of Nightmares, btw, and on my server it saw plenty of players right up until it fell.

I’ve played all three human backgrounds and the ruffian is by far the most jarring when it comes to Logan. In the nobility you’re already friends with the Seraph, and as a commoner the Seraph are respected, but you’d expect the ruffian to have a distaste for the law. Instead, the character does just as you say, practically jumping at the bit to help them. It bothered me too.

Try rerolling as nobility or commoner. I didn’t have any trouble with either of those.

how to upgrade armour

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

There are armor merchants in every city that will always sell you current gear. For example, since you’re lvl 11 they’d have lvl 10 and lvl 15 armor. When you hit 15 they’ll have 15 and 20, and so on. Same for the weapon merchant.

You’ll only get whites from these merchants, but if you’re a new player it’s going to be a lot easier than crafting. You can buy from the TP as well, and that’ll let you get masterwork quality and above, but searching and sorting on the TP can be a pain if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for.

The NPC merchants will do you just fine while you’re leveling up. Once at lvl 80 you can worry about getting the good stuff. I would recommend dabbling in Jeweler at the very least so you start to get acquainted with the crafting system. Once you’re familiar with it and have more materials collected, I would start working on Armorsmith or Weaponsmith. Good luck.

Toughness is a difficult stat to work with.

in Warrior

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I run 3.5k toughness so I know what it’s like getting all the aggro. Frankly the extra attention shouldn’t be enough to do you in. Remember that there are no “stand and tank” roles in this game. Even with a lot of toughness, you should still be dodging and kiting. At the very least, you can run the enemies in circles while your party does all the damage.

What build/gear do you use? What weapons? I have a feeling this is a L2P issue, particularly since you haven’t hit 80 yet.

First of all you don’t have to go through Lion’s to leave Heart of the Mists or WvW. Simply go to character select and pick that character again; you’ll go to whatever zone you were in when you entered WvW. A very handy trick.

One easy thing would improve traffic in the capitals: Mystic Forge access. I personally go to Rata Sum; everything is in one easy location. The only reason I touch Lion’s is for the forge, and I suspect many others are the same. It also happens to be where a lot of the living story is centered, but ANet has been working on that.

I see decent traffic in Divinity’s. But yes, the other capitals are dead.

Defending Trahearne - might not be his fault

in Personal Story

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I had no problems with Trahearne “stealing the limelight,” as it were. I never understood the hatred people had over this for Kormir either. This is an MMO where the character is a blank slate; clearly the player couldn’t take Abbadon’s place. Someone had to step up to the mantle of godhood, and it had to be an NPC, so why hate that NPC? Similarly, someone other than the player character had to lead the Pact.

My problem with Trahearne is that the role he filled would have been much better suited for Destiny’s Edge. We spend the first chunk of the game with members of DE and then they suddenly disappear. The Pact needs a leader and instead of them we get this sylvari with a dull personality that no one connects with. Trahearne could have still been around and still been at the front of cleansing Orr, but DE actually has leadership and dragon-fighting experience. Not putting them at the head of the Pact was a serious mistake.

So wait, being able to craft all the gear I need from the mats I found for free, instead of buying everything from the TP, doesn’t save money? B/c I’ve found the exact opposite to be true. Every time I lvl an alt I’m very thankful to have maxed disciplines. I haven’t had to actually buy a piece of gear since…well, since I maxed my disciplines months ago. I craft everything I need from mats I find just playing the game.

Sure, it’s a huge gold sink if: you’re buying your way through the discipline, you’re taking everything to 500, and/or you want it all maxed this week. But if you take your time, make them long term goals (like they’re supposed to be,) and gradually work them to 400 with the mats you get from casual play, the rewards vastly outweigh the cost.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Karma from dailies was reduced because karma container #s were changed (to stop orrian box farming) and essence of luck was added to the reward. Mind you, it’s about as much essensce as I get from salvaging a single green, but that was the official explanation.

600 karma is about two event’s worth; you should in no way expect your daily to fill your legendary karma needs. The best way to get karma (and nearly everything else you need) is the Frostgorge champ train. Yes, it requires a serious time and grind investment; isn’t that the point?

It’s not “unfair” to new players. New players shouldn’t have legendaries. These items are marks of achievement and dedication. If you’re not willing to invest the time to grind it out, or you expect to get it in a couple months of casual play, then you don’t really deserve to have the thing.

Instead of asking for ele’s to get ooc weapon ask for all classes to get an ooc weapon swap for the weapons they aren’t currently using (the other classes would still get a total of two different sets that they would be using and that would be swappable in combat). Otherwise, it’s like asking for new armor styles for only charr, or only humans. It doesn’t make sense.

I’ve had to restart the event more than once the last few nights, often b/c of that champ risen knight at the top of the stairs that one-shots everyone. It seems like the easiest way to get this part done is to do it with 2-3 people so everything is scaled down.

I was frustrated about this change at first, but now I’m thankful. I’m glad to see any content that requires actual strategy and coordination and not just zerk1111victory. That champ knight might be a tad overpowered, but that’s okay. We’ll figure out a way to deal with him. Thank you ANet, for giving me a challenge.

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I do Lyssa almost every night and while the champ illusion is a pain, he in no way prevents completion of the temple, as your pictures illustrate. Nor does he need to be removed; he’s the only part of the event that’s a real threat. Keep an eye out for him, point him out, and get your players dodging. If you die, Union is right there.

Would be nice if he despawned on completion, though. But even then, we’ve never had trouble taking him out post-event and picking players back up. As a commander, I find it annoying to see other commanders complaining about having actual difficult content to deal with as opposed to 111111win.
