/Supplyinfo needs larger radius for Raids

OP is talking about lane counts for Marionette I assume; no we don’t use supply but /supplyinfo gives a count and that’s useful.

Fluffball it’s not that simple. I’ve seen plenty of zerglings who just won’t stack no matter what, and plenty of WvW commanders who agree that the radius needs an upgrade, or we otherwise need an easier method of getting counts.

As for Marionette, I’ve found that the best way to get a count is to just do it manually with my eyes.

If WvW can do it, why can't we?

But imo i would listen a wvw commander and ignore a pve one(like those queensdale commanders).

I understand why you feel this way. But remember that some of us, much as I love WvW, run 95% PvE and and still enjoy taking leadership roles. There are plenty of PvE commanders that I wouldn’t listen to (and a few WvW ones,) but there are some of us that are worth following

Hopefully more coordinated and challenging content like Marionette will push more PvE commanders to be more than just a rally point. B/c honestly, right now there’s not much need for us to be anything more than that.

Stacking for organization is reasonable. Stacking for the purpose of stacking might or other buffs defeats the purpose of evenly distributing players to separate platforms for an encounter designed for a small group.

Pardon? The idea is to stack as a lane before you go into the portals, and then everyone goes in. Everyone still gets split up on the platforms, only now (with luck) everyone has 25 stacks of might and the champs go down that much faster. How does that defeat the purpose?

Thanks all for the replies. It does seem to that the best solution for this is simply to explain everything to those who don’t know. That was part of the reason I created this thread. The other reason is to get advice from other commanders. What tricks (if any) do ya’ll use to coordinate players and get them to listen to you? What’s the best /chat for communication? I’ve found that dropping banners/food at the very least gets my lane buzzing before the event and helps the afk problem.

PS: Much love to those in FA who choose my lanes and listen to me every time. Ya’ll know who you are and you rock.

Well I can’t find the quote so it may have been from a player and just bunk about the city being modeled. “Almost included at launch” might be stretching it on my part, but according to the Making Of book they “were a strong candidate for the playable races.”

I don’t know how early the decision was made not to include them, but clearly a point was made to give them a full-sized capital city not in an existing zone, and putting it right there by Lion’s where you can see it from two zones was surely intentional. Their models are copied from Charr as well, but when you get right down to it, aren’t all the other just copies of the human model? Placeholder perhaps, but it means that any armor that’s remodeled to work on Charr works on Tengu.

I’m not really expecting them to be playable so soon either (just hoping,) but if the LS is going where I predict it’s the perfect time to start heading in that direction.

If WvW can do it, why can't we?

So commanding lanes for the Marionette has been very interesting. Just getting people to listen to me is the hardest part. Many players don’t even know what squads are, much less that squad chat exists. I’m constantly switching between /say, /map, and /squad and I still can’t get through to some people.

This thread is about stacking might. If you stack in front of the portal and load up might, it’s a huge help on the wardens. That means bursting fire fields, guardian staff 4, and anything else you have that gives area might. This is page 1 of the strategy book in WvW and it’s as simple as standing on the blue dorito and pressing 1-2 buttons.

So why can’t I get my lanes to do it? I can barely get them all to the portal in time, no matter which chat I use. And forget getting them to stack for a lane count; easier to just count with my eyes. So tell me PvE: what’s it going to take before we learn this?

Scarlet is after Primordus. Destroyers are already attacking the Dominion of Winds. That drill is coming down on Lion’s Arch and all the destroyers are going to come spilling out on the Tengus’ doorstep. The Dominion was fully modeled a year ago and Tengu were almost included as playable at launch. If this isn’t the perfect opportunity to add them then I don’t know what is.

No, they aren’t right. That’s what a lot of you don’t seem to be getting.

You can’t force someone to get better. You just can’t.

Furthermore, saying that completely ignores that everyone has a set skill level, and furthermore, skill cap. A lot of you call it being bad, or lazy. But players can put in all the hard work they can and still not break through to the next level. People have limits and thresholds.

See you have the exact defeatist attitude that I don’t understand. People can get better, and while it’s true that you can’t force them, you can nudge them in that direction. People have limits and thresholds that they can break. Everyone can improve with practice and a little help. But if you give up outright on principle you won’t get anywhere.

ANet is spot on the money. PvE has been far too easy for far too long and it’s spoiled players into thinking that anything that requires effort = too much effort. Yes, Marionette requires planning and coordination. If that feels like a “job” to you, well, that’s all in your attitude. Personally I find those aspects quite enjoyable, and I willingly take up a leadership role during the event.

I wish these threads were a joke. There was one last week where the player didn’t even know what had killed him.

Look. If somehow you didn’t read the update, don’t notice the swatch of commander tags, the endless map chat about the event, or the fact that we’re all camping main server and loading overflows just to do the thing, or you did notice those things and still didn’t help, then frankly you deserve to be killed by the laser.

These two weeks are NOT a good time to be in Lornar’s unless you’re there for the event. Level somewhere else please.

Well, every bloodstone I saw in GW1 is grey. Yes, the one in the caves has some red parts up top, but the stone itself that you walk on is grey. Honestly I took those red parts more as local rock that was magically metamorphosed from the impact of the bloodstone.

Though yes, looking closely at the one in Bloodstone Fen, there do appear to be red crystalline structures coming from inside the grey stone. And Bloodstone dust is red. So yes, maybe the grey stone is hardened lava from when the shards were in Abbadon’s Mouth?

No but I’ve gotten pretty close (4/5) a couple of times. The problem I’ve found in overflow is that people don’t listen like they do in main server. Come on guys, join my squad and listen when I’m talking to you. This is NOT a mindless zerg event. If you don’t listen to your commanders and actually coordinate as a lane you won’t succeed.

Second this event has been very good for building community on most main servers. It sounds like you’ve got terrible luck with people on your server and I apologize for that. Guesting b/c they didn’t win and they’d rather go to a different server than keep trying for victory on their own? Talk about laziness and cowardice.

I don’t think the event itself needs a rework, I think the players on your server just need a swift kick in the kitten.

Fort Aspenwood here and we run into all the same problems. Both of these champs are notorious for wiping lanes, particularly champ three. I’ve been running lane three a lot and trying to work it out; vigor, immobilize, and ranged DPS seem to work best. Often I’ve found that a few of my platforms can’t DPS enough b/c they’re spending all their time picking each other up.

Basically we load up on rangers and eles. Doesn’t work every time but we’re getting the hang of it.

For $1,000, almost. I’m running a Core i5-4570 with a Nividia GTX 760 (total system cost about $1,200) and it handles massive zergs on max settings with about 20-30 FPS. It’s not choppy but I wouldn’t call it smooth either. So no, that price range will do max settings but you’re not going to have a smooth framerate in large zergs, particularly not WvW. However, you should be able to run at almost max without much trouble.

Remember also that this game is processor heavy and very poorly optimized. Until they fix both of those problems, even high-end comps are going to slog a bit.

Konig you’re right and wrong. While it’s true that the fruit of a tree has a different biological structure than the mother tree, it shares the same DNA. However, yes: what affects one might not affect the other. There are diseases and pests that affect trees and not their fruit and vice-versa.

For their immunity being magical in nature, I had that thought too. But why couldn’t it also be biological? Does a magical immunity have to be sourced in magic? And if the Dream is the cause of the immunity, would that make Malyck not immune? If that were true, then perhaps the reason the dragon could get a grip on Scarlet’s mind was b/c she rejected the dream? An interesting idea.

Iago is not mean for the sake of being mean. He’s an incredibly complicated character with layers of hidden motives. His hatred of Othello is the most visible motive, but he is also very much driven by his own pride, jealousy, and role in the play. He is a meta-character within the play, filling both the roles of villain and playmaster (he speaks to the audience and has knowledge beyond his character.) Othello was the first of Shakespeare’s plays that he didn’t act in, and also one of the few without a proper narrator; Iago is a stand-in for both of those roles.

If that’s really your takeaway from Iago then you should read the play again.

To be a red herring, it needs to be alluded to at the very least, if not brought up in the face, as being the situation at hand when it isn’t.

You sure? “A red herring might be intentionally used, such as in mystery fiction or as part of a rhetorical strategy (e.g. in politics), or it could be inadvertently used during argumentation as a result of poor logic.” :p

As far as the Pale Tree being corrupted, my assumption would be that if the Sylvari are immune, the Tree is also. Their immunity surely has something to do with their biology, which the Pale Tree would necessarily share. I wouldn’t be surprised if The Dream and Ventari’s Tablet assist in their immunity somehow, but my guess is that the immunity is innate in all Sylvari and Pale Trees.

As far as Mordremoth…I won’t reiterate any of the great counter-arguments King of the Dead made in this and many other threads, but it would seem to me that the Sylvari exist with the specific purpose of fighting the dragons. Whether they were created that way by an outside force (The Six?) or are a defense mechanism of the planet itself (like white blood cells), I don’t know.

The English voice actors are wonderful. The problem is poor voice direction. My favorite example is from the ettins in Taminn Foothills in Queensdale. The big one is talking to a human NPC:

Ettin: Ettins no work good with other Ettins.

NPC: You mean, Ettins don’t work well with other ettins.

The NPC puts the emphasis on “other” instead of “well” where it should be, and the line sounds very very strange. It’s little moments like that that make me shake my head.

Read please

Apparently they tried very hard to make ways for completed platforms to help others, but there were technical issues. Agreed that a fix here would greatly improve the fight. However, I also agree that I’ve seen a single player complete a platform on my left while a whole group of five wipes immediately on my right. Platform champs’ HP scales with # of players, so platform completion really has nothing to do with how many are there and everything to do with player skill.

And you know what? When you’re the only platform that wipes out of a lane, it’s really shameful. Happened in my lane last night and all five of them felt terrible about it. And you know what that does? It pushes them to do better.

We also get moment like two nights ago, where we were on the final chain and every platform was done except for one, where everyone had wiped except for my brother. He pulled through and took out the generator with one second to spare. Nothing quite like that feeling

Perhaps what we saw was just a shell, or chrysalis. Perhaps he’s been munching on the leylines deep under Tyria for two centuries and has grown and changed. The only part of him that we saw in action was his eye, which appears to be posted all over Scarlet’s hideout.

This adds some more pieces to the puzzle. It pretty clear now. Scarlett looked too far and came face to face with Primordus. That eye looks very familiar to his eye when he woke up in GW1. If he’s seen as an image of red thorns strangling the Pale Tree, well:

  • He’s very much red and spiky.
  • The roots of the pale tree must surely extend for miles, given its height. And where are the destroyers? Why, clearing huge tracts of land under Tyria of course. And lured up by these thumpers no doubt. They’re already surfacing at the Dominon of Winds, and that’s right on the pale tree’s doorstep. Surely they’re already gnawing away at her roots.

Primordus got a hold of Scarlet’s mind. He’s been whispering in her ear. She’s targeting us so we’ll be out of his way. Look at that map she’s got Xs on Vigil Keep, the Durmond Priory, the Chantry of Secrets and Lion’s Arch. She plans to wipe out the Pact and our most important city.

She’s setting the table. The dragon is hungry. Let’s cancel dinner, shall we?

As Danikat said, I wouldn’t worry too much about appearance while leveling; it’s all temporary. Before I even make my characters I tend to plan them out around what end-game armor I’m going to get them. Everything leading up to that is just filler.

That said, I’m crafting my mesmer all the rare stuff in each tier and finding a lot of good variety in the skins that way. Started with heritage armor, bought T1 cultural at lvl 35, running lvl 50 masquerade now. Similar story with weapons. So there are ways to keep it fresh while leveling.

  • Account wallet. All your characters now share all currencies.
  • Ascended crafting. Most crafting disciplines now go to 500, allowing you to craft ascended weapons and armor (massive grind warning!) Disciplines still at 400 = chef and jeweler.
  • Champions now drop boxes with loot and chances at rare weapons. There are now champ trains in Queensdale and Frostgorge farming this.
  • World bosses give a lot more loot now, including a daily bonus chest with a guaranteed rare. The boss train is my main haunt and it is fun and profitable indeed.
  • Most world bosses were overhauled a bit and now have much more interesting/challenging mechanics. Tequatl in particular saw a mega-buff and now requires an organized raid of about 80 people to complete.
  • Karma containers and boosters were nerfed.
  • Minor balancing. Check your traits for refunds and changes.
  • New healing skills.
  • New map coming to WvW. Also world exp going account bound.
  • Scarlet is up to something big. This arc of the Living Story is about to climax and, the Six be praised, there actually seems to be expansion-worthy content coming down the pipes after that.
