Well Boneheart, if you were there last night you know we didn’t do as well as last week. People were less focused this time; too many showed up late and not nearly enough in TS. Made some progress on the head but didn’t decap it like last time.

But it was fun nonetheless. Wurm is a learning experience. FAA’s next attempt is going to be next Sunday. If you want to join us, please show up early and at least listen in on TS so we can coordinate properly.

Why do people who never played ele seriously, that they are squishy. That is a myth.

I’ve been playing ele as my main since beta. I think I know what I’m talking about. They’re squishy, plain and simple.

OP stated repeatedly that he doesn’t want to be waiting around for cooldowns or rotations. Even with 30 in Arcana, that’s what ele is about.

Seriously I love ele, I wouldn’t have anything else as my main. But the class is not what the OP is looking for based on their post.

The thing to remember is that Anet has stated that they fully intend to deliver the same amount of content that would come in an expansion, they’re just not sure that the standard expansion format is the way they’re going to do it. They don’t want to put out a new box of the game.

Personally I think they’re going to use the living story to deliver the content in chunks. Hopefully the features build after this LS season wraps up will be the start of the real new content.

Bumping with more updates!

FAA is rapidly becoming a major player on the PvE side of the server. We just decapped out first wurm head last week, and we’re not going to stop there. Now that we’ve collected a large number of guilds into the fold for organizational purposes, we’re looking for mature, friendly PvE players to join us and help us grow! There’s no application or vetting process; active FA player is the only requirement. Don’t be shy, help us build FA into a better server.

I guess people can’t read the “on FA” part.

You should join Fort Aspenwood Ascension! We’re an FA-only guild created to organize the server for large world bosses like wurm (runs Mon-Wed nights, just decapped our first head!), karka queen, Balthazar, and more. It’s a non-rep required guild so we’ve got lot of leaders and officers of other guilds with us; there’s always someone around for whatever type of content you’re looking for (less so PvP, but plenty of WvW folks with us.)

The stated mission of our guild is to bring together friendly, helpful players and leaders in order to build Fort Aspenwood into a more stable, mature, organized, and successful server, with a focus on the PvE side of things. We’re growing quickly; come join us!

Join my guild, Fort Aspenwood Ascension! We’re an FA-only, PvE world boss focused guild. We do wurm runs Mon-Wed nights; just decapped our first head last week! Over 50 strong and still growing. It’s a non-rep required, organizational guild, so we’ve got a lot of guild leaders and officers from other guilds with us. Plenty of people you can team up with for dungeons, world bosses, WvW, everything.

Don’t leave FA yet! Stay and help us make it a better server

What you’re looking for is greatsword/hammer warrior. This is one of the meta PvE setups for good reason. Tough, lots of damage and CC, and some of the best mobility in the game. Great for WvW as well (just switch out your zerk gear for knights.)

Ele is not what you’re looking for. Too squishy and “stuck waiting for the rotation to come back around” is the class in a nutshell. Trust me, go with warrior, it won’t do you wrong.

There’s nothing they can do. If you think the game needs to be moved to a different server, talk to NCSoft. If you think the server itself needs fixing so this stuff is prevented, talk to CloudFlare.

Raging at ANet about this is like watching TV at a friend’s and getting mad at him when the cable goes out and he can’t fix it. It’s out of their hands.

You’re correct Orphan, but the key word is “suggesting.” I guarantee you that ANet and NCSoft both want to fix the issue. But it’s just not a simple issue to fix. Moving a game this large over to an entirely new server hub is a major undertaking.

These cloud servers work fantastically 99.9% of the time. It’s only these DDoS attacks that are causing trouble, and the solution doesn’t even require moving to new servers. The cloud server itself needs some of its code tweaked to prevent these abuses from happening.

So really, the people you should be talking to about fixing the issue is CloudFlare.

Unfortunately any decision on this front would be up to NCSoft (Anet’s parent company) to make. Anet really has no control over it; NCSoft is the one that has the game on the cloud servers that are getting hit.

If you think something should be done, please tell it to NCSoft, not Anet.

Konig that’s a really good thought on Malyck’s tree; I’ll follow the river the best I can and see if I can’t find a good potential spot for it. Tangle Root does seem a little close, I agree.

As for Mordy, the question is: is he in the lush or dry parts? We know the jungle has been drying up; is he the cause? If so, then he’s probably in the Wastes. Or would he more likely be where all the magic in the region is? That is, the water sources. Besides the Falls I’m going to check Bloodstone Fen and Mamnoon Lagoon as well.

The zone itself is unremarkable; no bosses and nothing of real interest besides the ruins. No story takes place there, no NPCs, no outposts. There’s a valley running through it that’s green like all the lowlands in Maguuma. I’ll admit that I had a few “what if Mordy is down there” thoughts, but I couldn’t see anything in the valley that would suggest as much, and certainly no cave where the seeds might have been.

The “cave” that people have speculated about is the formation in my first picture, which can be found in other places around Maguuma. Frankly it looks like an animal nest to me.

I do intend to go scouting through Maguuma for possible Mordremoth locations, but since the dragons were only added with Eye of the North I don’t expect to find any real evidence for him there. The Falls seems like a good place to start.

OP do you have the numbers and coordination on your server for more than one head? If you don’t then focusing on one head is actually the best course of action. It takes upwards of 150 people and a lot of organization to take down all three.

If you really want to beat the whole wurm, what you can do is start gathering like-minded players on your server. Pick days and times that you’re all going to meet and attempt the wurm. Plan it ahead of time and make sure you advertise the session in Lion’s before you do it. Then focus on one head at a time until you’ve got the mechanics down and gather enough people to do more. Takes about fifty people per head. Build rapport and work towards it one step at a time.

Instead of complaining about PUGs, take the lead on your server. That’s what we’re doing on FA and it’s working beautifully.

Primordus vs Mordremoth

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

Tenu you’re off on a couple points. The dragons are confirmed not allies – they will fight each other – and Mordremoth is still sleeping. Primordus is already awake; he was the first to awaken. It happened at the end of GW1. I do think that Scarlet is under Mordy’s control, and Primordus may still be involved. My current theory is as such:

When sleeping, the dragons are connected to the leylines. Over time magic builds in the leylines until it reaches some critical point, at which time the dragon sleeping on that leyline awakens to feast on it. Somehow this is also tied to their minions: defeating the Great Destroyer kept Primy asleep for a while longer. The fact that Mordremoth is still sleeping means either that his leyline hasn’t hit its critical point yet or that something went wrong with its minions.

So it seems to me that Scarlet wants at that leyline because it’s the one that Mordremoth is sleeping on, and she’s going to do something to it that triggers him to rise. The drill is to get down there; the only loose end is that Marionette. What is it for? Well, two ideas:

  • Maybe Primordus is down there munching on that leyline, and maybe that’s what is keeping it from reaching the critical point. The Marionette is for fighting him – that’s what the toxin is for too – and driving him off. Maybe not, in which case:
  • IF the sylvari turn out to be dragon minions, and the Pale Tree a purified champion, then perhaps that’s somehow interfering with Mordy’s awakening. I’ll bet you the roots of the Pale Tree touch that leyline. In this case the Marionette and toxin are for killing the Pale Tree.

Personally the first seems more plausible to me; the fact that the Marionette comes out of the bottom of the drill suggests to me that she needs to use it down in the Depths where the leyline is. Otherwise she’d have to fly the drill over to the Tree and why not just use the drill itself (or that Aether fleet) to do the job? Unless she wants to kick and chop and burn the tree herself, and that Marionette is the closest thing she’s got to a Gundam. Also it’s symbolic of Scarlet being a puppet on Mordy’s strings.

shrug Like I said, just playing devil’s advocate. And the other sylvari not being immune to corruption doesn’t = dragon minions, you’re correct. However, it would be a point against the argument of why they’re not dragon minions. One of the main reasons I’ve seen you particularly submit that they’re not minions is that they’re immune to corruption. If we find out that some of them aren’t immune, then that reason wouldn’t hold up anymore.

All they really say is that they consider him dangerous (and I would too, even if I knew nothing about him, simply by the fact that he’s an elder dragon.) Where are you seeing the “known and dangerous” part and how does it rule out Malyck’s tree? Just because they know of some of the influence of Mordy doesn’t mean they know of all. The fact that they don’t know about Malyck’s tree really has nothing to do with whether or not it’s a dragon minion.

Though to be fair, if Sylvari were dragon minions, I’d assume there’d be a line about it in that bit of dialogue.

Time will tell I suppose.

Kalarchis.8635

Ah, you’re right about the pod and his memories. But that doesn’t rule out my theory. He still might have been a dragon minion…had his pod opened away from the Pale Tree. Perhaps the fact that he awoke within proximity of the Pale Tree freed him, but the fact that he’s not of the Pale Tree means no connection to the Dream. Just a thought.

Also, I’m not saying there’s a connection between Ronan and Omadd’s device. What I mean is, perhaps Ronan knew some measure of the truth about the seeds. That truth exists in the Dream, and thus within the sylvari, thus Scarlet took that truth into Omadd’s device with her. That truth being Mordy in this theory.

Also, most of the “inconvenient evidence” seems to be related to the fact that:

1) Dragon minions are fanatical and non-intelligent for the most part, and
2) Sylvari are immune to corruption.

However, all we know is that our Sylvari are immune to corruption. We really don’t know if the rest of them are, particularly if my theory on Malyck is correct. I really don’t think them being dragon minions is as far fetched (or difficult to explain lore-wise) and many here have made it out to be.

My assumption is that they’ve come to realize that they have considerably more power and influence working together with Scarlet than they ever had alone. Working together under Scarlet, however, they clearly have a better chance at defeating their primary obstacle: us.

The enemy of my enemy…

[theory] Locations of other pale trees

in Lore

Kalarchis.8635

Just to play devil’s advocate:

If the Sylvari are Mordy’s minions, we still don’t know about the state of the corruption of the other trees. Perhaps the Pale Tree isn’t the only one to become free from the dragon, though the Dream might be unique to it. Perhaps the other trees have their own levels of resistance, we really don’t know.

Perhaps Malyck was under Mordy’s influence and somehow coming within proximity of the Pale Tree freed him of this, which had the result of him losing his memory. The fact that he has no memory is very suspicious to me, along with three other factors:

1) The Harbinger. Why does the Nightmare Court call him this? Harbringer of what? The victory of the Nightmare Court? Or Mordremoth?

2) The Dark Hunt. Sylvari are given their Wyld Hunt by the Pale Tree through the Dream. Nightmare Court are given their Dark Hunt through the Nightmare by…who? Who, if not Mordremoth?

3) “What Ronan knew and never told still lingers in the Dream.” What does this mean? Does it mean that Ronan knew something about the truth of the seeds, and that truth lies in the dream? Could this be related to Omadd’s device, and how Scarlet didn’t take anything in there that wasn’t already with her?

Again, just playing devil’s advocate. I’m not convinced the sylvari are Mordy’s minions. They could be a parting gift from the gods (they do have human forms,) particularly Melandru. But if they were, I don’t imagine Anet would have any trouble explaining it within the current lore.

New theory on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

See the thing is that the theory of Mordremoth has its flaws too. There are more than one Trees that grow Sylvari (one you meet in the personal story instance for Sylvari) who don’t have The Dream and aren’t evil. So how come they aren’t corrupted by Mordremoth? If Mordremoth is attempting to wake, why doesn’t he just do so? Why does he need a champion to wake? Why does he need one champion and not multiple? After all, it has been confirmed that there are other Trees without the dream who create Sylvari, so why does he not use them? Dragon’s feed on magic, so why does he need Scarlet to feed on the ley lines? If he is beneath Lions Arch why does he need the city to be destroyed to wake? Zhaitan lifted a whole country when he woke and Kralkatorrik rose from the ground and Jormag rose from mountains, so why can’t Mordremoth break open a city when he rises? Or is he just extremely weak for some reason? If she is trying to kill him, why does she need Ley lines? We killed Zhaitan with cannons and the 2 button, so why does she need magical ley lines. She already has enough fire power.

I realize mine has flaws too, like the dragon on Scarlet’s Lair (although I do believe that is just meant to either throw people off or to imply she is going to use dragon magic).

There are just as many flaws in that theory as there are in mine. They are theories after all. Saying that it is “obvious” that this theory is correct and anyone who disagrees is delusional is an insult, especially since it hasn’t even been confirmed. If the Mordremoth theory is right, come back and call me delusional all you want, but there’s no point in calling me so before it has even been confirmed, you’re just trying to pick fights.

Also, the Primordus theories surfaced before the Dev announcment and people were relating Sylvari to Mordremoth long before Scarlet even came into the picture.

First of all please note where I went out of my way to say “I’m not trying to be rude.” If I wanted to pick a fight I would have been overt about it. My intention was not to insult but I do think that the dragon theories are fairly obvious given the evidence we have and that any theories to the contrary require a fair bit of looking around or disregarding that evidence. If I offended you then I apologize.

As far as Mordremoth, how do we know the other sylvari aren’t being used by him? The only one we know of is Maylck, and for all we know he could be a scout pretending not to be a dragon minion. That said I’m not convinced the sylvari are minions of Mordremoth, though the theory has some weight (the Dream protects them, and Scarlet rejecting the dream is what allowed Mordy to get a hold on her.)

As well, we know next to nothing about how exactly Elder Dragons awake. Is it based on a set amount of time? Seems to me it’s more likely based on a set amount of magic; that is, once particular leylines fill up with a certain amount of magic, some trigger is met and the dragon awakens. If this is the case, then everything makes sense: Scarlet is after the leyline under Lion’s so she can do something to it to trigger Mordy to awaken.

My assumption is that elder dragon’s don’t just will themselves awake, or else I’d assume that they would. It’s related somehow to the magical energy in the world and the state of their minions. Defeating the Great Destroyer kept Primy sleeping for a little while longer. If the sylvari are Mordy’s minions, then perhaps the Pale Tree being free has kept Mordy sleeping for longer than he should. In that case, Scarlet would be using her experiment on the leyline to manually create the magical conditions necessary for Mordy to awaken.

She might want to kill the Pale Tree as well; I used to think that Marionette and the poison were for Primordus, but now I’m not so sure…

It’s been like this typically on FA as well, although it seems that right as the event starts the rest of the people will join up and we get full numbers. 5min until event starts and there’s maybe 11 in each lane. Once the event starts is when everyone starts showing up I’ve seen. This only applies to primetime (7pm/9pm events).

Now, that said, we still seem to have a heck of a time actually succeeding through all 5 wardens. How people can consistently fail on Warden 2 is beyond me. And it hasn’t been for lack of numbers either, it’s been people legitimately failing.

We’re going to get her again. I don’t care if I have to sit in LA and hound after experienced players all day, FA will beat Mari again before she leaves.

New theory on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

Firstly, the Devs announced that only one in every 10-20 thousand people have gotten the ending right. Yet there are two current popular theories about Scarlet being a dragon minion of Primordius/Mordermoth. So, I concluded, that these can’t be right theories since they are so popular

At the time this comment was made, hardly anyone was suggesting that she was under the thrall of an elder dragon. Those theories have become increasingly popular in the intervening time b/c of additional info released in the LS. If you look at it now and forget when that dev comment was made then it’s easy to reach the conclusion you did.

Look, this is a game about defeating elder dragons. Plain and simple; just look at the logo. It’s well past time to get on with the next major story arc for the game and that means a new elder dragon. And a dragon makes plenty of sense. What makes you think Scarlet is disobedient? The line about “You’ve been taken credit for everything I’ve done…but I wasn’t doing it for you, I was doing it for me…get out of my head” suggests exactly the opposite. She may think she’s her own master, but everything she’s doing is playing exactly into the plans of her controller. And she’s going for a leyline, armed with expanded knowledge (from Thaumanova) on how to do something huge involving dragon energies and a leyline. Something like waking up a dragon. And there’s a big dragon painted on top of her lair, one that shares visual similarities with the concept art of the jungle dragon.

I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but anyone that thinks it’s not an elder dragon at this point is just deluding themselves.

My understanding is that most players, myself included, want first person POV not in order to use it in combat but to simply get a closer look at something.

I’m really tired of having to run ten feet past things in order to get a good close-up angle on them, and half the time the camera shunts around it and I can’t get a look anyway. For once I would like to get a nice landscape shot without my character standing there. Sure looks that way. I’m still conflicted as to whether or not the Sylvari are minions of Mordremoth. If they are then the Nightmare Court is more like the natural state of Sylvari and those of the Pale Tree are the rouge faction.

Though I think the shadow of the dragon in the starter dream is supposed to represent the threat of all the dragons and not specifically Mordremoth. Either way, very interested to find out the truth here.
