An Alternate Theory *Possible Spoilers*

Kalarchis.8635

Primordus is already awake; he awoke at the very end of EoTN. He’s down in the Depths clearing space; the dragon we see is in the jungle and doesn’t awaken until the magic gets to him.

Leylines travel in straight lines (they snake back and forth at the ground level but the big picture is a line.) If you trace a line from the Breachmaker to Thaumanova and keep going, you end up in Magus Falls in Maguuma. In order for your theory to be correct, the energy would have traveled in the exact opposite direction. Instead it clearly moves from LA to Thaumanova, through a dry zone and into a dark jungle.

It’s Mordremoth. That picture is probably just to show how far Scarlet was looking with her probes; remember that she was not looking for the dragon itself but instead for a leyline hub that connected to the dragon. You’re giving too much importance to a picture I think.

Bumping with updates.

Wurm turnout has been terrible so we’re trimming it down to once a week and shifting focus to more general PvE activities like temple trains. We’d still like to beat wurm and teq one day but those have become much more long-term goals.

Other guilds are still welcome to join the alliance, but we’re also looking for more PvE players willing to rep more often (still not required) to help fill out our roster! Send me a PM for more info.

We’re a PvE focused guild, but we do have ties to some of the WvW guilds and players. I would check the FA forums for getting into a WvW guild on our server.

Thank you for your interest though! You’re still welcome to run with us; we’re trying to find more people on FA that want to do the harder, raid-style PvE content like wurm and Tequatl.

Get your levels doing what you enjoy. Honestly 2-3 nights in the LS content and you’ve seen all there is to see. If I enjoy an LS (Nightmares Within) I’ll be there every night, but I’ve had to take the LA siege in small doses.

Doing LS content can be tougher while you’re leveling but it’s also great xp and loot. Get your fill of it, check if there are any skins you want, and then try to ignore it and go explore.

Scarlet the good guy,explaining events

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

Lets understand the forces that are the dragons. They have been said to be more akin to forces of nature rather than a malevolent force. They are said to be solely intent on consuming as much magic as possible before going to sleep.

Just to save Konig the trouble of having to explain this in yet another thread: the “forces of nature” thing is an analogy. To the races of Tyria, the dragons exhibit powers on par with natural forces like hurricanes. That is: they are overwhelming, seemingly unstoppable forces. They are not forces of nature in the way that a hurricane is. It’s just an analogy. They are living beings with wills and they quite clearly have a will to dominate.

Scarlet’s line about “Tyria bowing to a new master” is completely in line with what we know about the elder dragons; Zhaitan’s minions, particularly the Risen Priests, have lines like this. Saying that this is the “distorted view” of the minions doesn’t make sense, considering dragon minions appear to directly inherit the wills of their dragon. Her line is no different than the Risen Priest of Melandru saying “Lay down your arms and submit to my master.”

Scarlet is talking about Mordremoth. She was under his corruption; it’s even physically visible on her upon her death. Her goal, as you stated, was to “to redirect the forces that control the natural cycle of the world.” That’s exactly what she did: the natural cycle of the world and the dragons are tied to the passage of magic through the leylines. She disrupted the leyline hub so that the magic was redirected straight into Mordremoth’s mouth, kick-starting his awakening.

I don’t understand why so many people are grasping for something beyond an elder dragon.

Small and Large Guilds... WE NEED THIS!

Kalarchis.8635

OP is on the right track but a popup would only be a band-aid on the core problem here: guilds have little to no in-game tools for setting up events. I lead a small alliance guild on my server and Message of the Day and whispering everyone just doesn’t cut it.

Why is MotD the only place where I can list guild info? I need a separate space for that, preferably on the Main guild tab where everyone can see it. I would also love a Calendar tab where I can post events. It would make things so much easier.

Guilds halls would help this too, particularly if you could get a big signboard and post events to it. Anet, you said you wanted us to self-organize and we’re trying; but you need to give us the in-game tools to do so or it’s going to continue to be an uphill struggle.

Modremoth has the biggest army of any Elder Dragon upon awakening(Jormag had only minions in the Shiverpeaks, Zhaitan had only the Dead of Orr, Kralkatorrik had no army and Primordus had the Destroyers) which says something on how big a threat he is.

Well hold on now. That army was Scarlet’s. There’s nothing to indicate that all of those forces are going to obey Mordremoth now that she’s dead. It’s doubtful any of them even knew about the dragon; likely they’re all going their separate ways after this.

Plus I’ll bet you Mordy has his own minions to make just like all the other dragons.

Guild World Bosses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kalarchis.8635

Bosses can be farmed by guilds. I run an alliance guild on FA specifically for world bosses; besides Teq and Wurm we do Balth and Karka and some of the other more challenging bosses.

What exactly are you asking for? Do you want more bosses that are only available to guilds? B/c then it’s not a world boss…it’s a guild boss, and as has been mentioned the bounties work fine for that. Or are you looking for more bosses that have a difficulty range somewhere between Teq and wurm? I’m all for that one.

Kalarchis.8635

The more time you spend looking and complaining about afkers the less time you are saving civilians.

This is really not an argument. Spotting the AFKers is a simple as using the WPs and looking at the screen while you run by, and the people making the complaints are (hopefully) not doing the LA event while they’re here making the post. They see the AFKers while running around and then come on here later to post.

Imagine if you were at lunch with someone and they made a complaint about something they saw on the side of the road on their way over, and you said “the more time you spend looking and complaining about it the less time you are driving to lunch.” Same argument, same amount of sense (none.)

Also, the previous thread on this topic was closed by the mods, hence no thread to bump. In fact the dev post basically said “please create a new thread on this topic if you want to discuss it” so here we are.

Drill's Purpose - Speculation

Kalarchis.8635

A new dungeon would actually work really well in that spot, but it would have to be an underwater dungeon, exploring the Depths leading to the leyline that are currently being flooded.

That or the drill itself would be a dungeon. You start at the top and work you way down, fighting remnants of Scarlet’s army and traps along the way.

The Conclusion We've ALL Been Waiting For...

in Living World

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

I think if that were the case, there would been some other cataclysmic event would correlate with Primordius moving, because its body is basically embedded in the earth. And there is no mention of any of that in the lore.

Err…

Primordus has remained underneath the surface since its awakening, clearing huge tracts of the underground regions.

There’s no reason Primy would stay where he was after waking up, and no reason we’d need a cataclysmic event to mark him moving through the Depths. There are two likely places where he set up camp:

1) Mount Maelstrom. This volcano became active some time after Primy woke up, is overrun with destroyers, and just happens to be right next to Droknar’s Forge, the capital of the Dwarves, Primy’s long foe. He could easily be here.

2) Under Lion’s Arch. We know that the dragons feed on magical energy. There’s a huge hub of leylines under LA. If I were Primy, I’d be right there snacking on the thing.

Personally I also hope that Primy delivers the final blow…and that all his destroyers make a new nest in LA, having been flooded out of the Depths by Scarlet’s drill.

Tyria, Cantha or Elona?

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

This question is impossible to answer without seeing the actual state of Cantha or Elona. What we know is that both nations were united under a dictatorship, one in the form of a xenophobic and isolationist government and the other in the form of an undead lich.

But those events are historical; we know next to nothing about the current state of either land. It’s likely that the Empire and Palawa Joko still hold reign over their respective lands, but I’ll bet that there are resistance factions working against both. Without knowing the extent of their technology or military, it’s impossible to say who is more powerful.

Theory on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

The reason I think she’s not in control is something from her journals from the previous living story releases. From her main journal:

“Control of my world, of myself, is slipping through my hands.”

And from the holojournals:

“Ever since I came out of Omadd’s machine, you’ve been taking credit for my ideas. They are mine! Not yours. Let me be clear. I’m not doing this for you; I’m doing it for me. Nobody tells me what to do. Not ever. It’s not true. None of it. I don’t have to listen to you. Get out of my head!”

Emphasis mine. These lines suggest to me that, much as she’d like to be in control, everything she’s doing is playing right into the entity’s plans. That said, it’s likely that she still has some degree of control. How much, and whether or not it makes a difference in the end is yet to be seen.

I have a feeling that her end goal – whatever she’s going to do with that leyline hub – is something that she thinks will break the dragon’s control (or defeat it,) but is only going to cause him to rise. In essence, I think her drive for independence is working against her; it’s blinded her to how much of a puppet she really is.

That said I still like your theory

Theory on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Kalarchis.8635

Kalarchis.8635

A very interesting theory. Certainly one of the most original I’ve seen. Kudos.

But it only works if you’re of the opinion that she’s in control of her goals. They’ve made it fairly clear that some entity has a grasp on her mind, and that her actions are playing right into that entity’s goals. If that entity is a dragon, as many of us suspect, then it wouldn’t make sense for the dragon to want to erase its own food source.

As well, I don’t think she has the capability to erase all magic, no matter what leyline hub she has access to. Magic appears to be a natural force in Tyria. There are creatures that consume it (Elder Dragons,) attempts to contain it (the Bloodstone,) and sources of it beyond Tyria itself (the Mists,) but the fact that it permeates the entire world and runs in natural channels through it tells me that it’s a fundamental part of the world.

That’s not to say that the world couldn’t exist without it, but something tells me that removing it from Tyria entirely is well beyond the scope of Scarlet’s power. Now, she could be attempting to contain it in a new kind of Bloodstone, sealing it away from the dragons. But again, I think she’s Mordremoth’s puppet, and I don’t see why he would want to do away with his food.

Magic and dragons are connected. If Scarlet succeeds in her goals, she could release another dragon for the PCs to kill, and if all the dragons are killed, magic will cease to exist.

Magic and the dragons appear to be connected in the way that leeches and blood are connected. There’s nothing to suggest that killing them would do away with magic; indeed, the opposite. Killing them would allow magic to keep building up unchecked; that buildup seems to be what triggers them to rise and trim the magic down in the first place.

Agreed; on the northwest side you just can’t get a breather from these things. I appreciate the realism but it gets incredibly frustrating and discouraging after a while.

What we need is some way to counter the lasers. Some event that, if successful, stops or slows the rate of fire for a short time. Or maybe all the lasers on map should give priority to zergs larger than 15 or 20 ppl. Would be a great way to help break up the zerg.

For hundreds of years we’ve fought the humans. What came of it? Plots of land taken back and forth. Countless dead on all sides. Our march on Orr caused the Cataclysm…an entire kingdom sunk into the sea. Untold numbers lost, only to become minions for a Lich and then Zhaitan. How many of our brethren now walk the shores of Orr, cursed to undeath by our own endless thirst for blood and conquest?

And what of the Searing? Was driving out the humans worth the price? Was it worth tapping into the power of a dragon and scorching our home beyond recognition? The lakes of tar still stain our fur. And now that same dragon has risen and left a terrible scar on our land. How many times? How many wounds must Ascalon bear before it is enough?

I am Vigil. Almorra watched as the dragon twisted her land, her warband, her reality. She survived. We survived. The time to fight the humans is over. It should have been over centuries ago. Now we must fight together, or we will all be consumed and Charr and Human alike will be but memories of the dragons.

Unfortunately for Anet, crit dmg is the last remaining useful stat on Celestial gear, and they don’t really know how to respond to us.

To be fair, ANet acknowledged that Celestial is getting hit the hardest by the ferocity change, and have said they’re considering raising the overall stats to make up for it.

Indeed. That drill is flooding the Depths of Tyria, which are currently occupied by Primordus and his destroyers. What will be the result of this? Well, if ants are any indication…

I don’t mean that Scarlet meant it to symbolize that she was a puppet. I think you’re right that she would consider us the puppets. I think that the devs meant it to symbolize that she was a puppet.

Your second point is exactly what I’m saying. It was a weapons test; you only test a weapon if you have intent to use it for something. You take a gun out to a range and test it on targets before you use it on the enemy. But you don’t take it to the range, fire on the targets, and then scrap the gun, particularly if it works. We were the test targets, so there must be a main target.

BTW this is my favorite and the most interesting topic in the game right now, if you couldn’t tell

Kalarchis.8635

Ah, I didn’t catch that bit of new info. That makes more sense honestly. But it’s still possible that she built a second, final version of the Marionette. I don’t understand why she would build a giant combat robot just to test a laser (or explosive) weapon. Surely the robot itself has significance beyond the obvious symbolism of Scarlet being a puppet. We’ll find out I guess.

And yeah it comes out of a portal, but the portal was centered on the bottom of the drill. No reason she couldn’t make the portal elsewhere I suppose.

The fact that the bay is lowering while still connected to the sea would mean that there’s a huge amount of space down there being filled up, which matches the “huge tracts of land” that we know Primy cleared in the Depths. But if that much water were pouring down, I’d expect to see a current pulling us down there…which may simply be something the devs neglected to put in.

Also, the fact that the mods rapidly deleted threads about the spoiler at the time pretty much confirms for me that they’re true. Why work that hard to cover up false information?

I think the fact that the water level is lowering in the bay is proof of a speculation by myself and others: this is going to flood the Depths of Tyria and likely force the destroyers out. Earthquakes are definitely possible.

That said, I still think Primordus is down there snacking on that leyline hub. She built that Marionette to fight something, and the fact that it comes out of the end of the drill tells me that she needs it down at the leyline. I’m more worried about what’s going to happen when she makes him mad…

I don’t think that the Pale Tree is Mordremoth. However, it’s possible that she and our Sylvari are purified minions of Mordremoth. And that would certainly be a secret worth keeping.

Imagine the fallout of this realization. Many Sylvari would keep fighting on our side, but many would suffer an identity crisis. Many would join the Nightmare Court, realizing it to be closer to the true form of the Sylvari. The Tree and the Sylvari would no longer be trusted by the other races (are they really on our side, or is it a ruse?) The Orders would be thrown for a loop. Do they continue working with the Sylvari, or burn them all in case Mordremoth somehow regained control? What about the Sylvari within the Orders? Do they turn their blades against themselves? Some would likely do so, finding death a more comforting option than being turned by the dragon. The whole of Tyria would have their eyes on the Sylvari and the Pale Tree would have a lot to answer for.

It’d be interesting to say the least.

Congratulations, you now know what every culture or nation that has ever been invaded feels like. No one likes to see their home destroyed; that’s the point. ANet didn’t do this in order to sever ties with GW1 or anything like that. They did it to pull on your heartstrings, and boy did they succeed. Kudos ANet.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Well…the Cataclysm was more devastating on a purely physical scale. But let’s remember that the reason the Cataclysm happened was because the Searing cleared the way for the Charr to march on Orr.

As well, the magic that the Charr used in the Searing was “older than even the Titans, powered by beings who had long ago fallen into sleep.” Given the purple crystals that marked the event, it’s clear that the Charr were tapping into Kralkatorik’s power.

Most brutal? The Cataclysm. Most important lore wise? The Searing by far. The Searing is the defining moment of Guild Wars Prophecies, and without a doubt the defining moment for the humans and Charr in Tyria.

The twisted Marionette was fun! For a week or two. Then players on my server started showing up later, and later, and later, and an increasing number of new players each time, and we couldn’t beat it for the life of us. I gathered all the regulars to the event; we were there almost every night. Yet people kept failing on Warden 3 again and again and again without improvement.

I’ll miss the event but at the same time I’m relieved to see it go. Even with wurm, when we don’t decap a head the reasons why are typically obvious and we make definitive and noticeable improvements the next time. But with Mari…there’s just too small of a margin of error on the platforms. Too many times I saw chains fail at 4/5 with people banging their heads against the wall because there was nothing we could do about that final wiped platform.

The idea was great and the boss was fun. It’s just…we needed ways to help other platforms. I understand that there were technical issues preventing that this time. Fix those issues. No one likes feeling helpless, especially when they know kitten well how much they could help.

All of the pets available near Fort Trinity are also available in the racial capitals or in the starter zones.

The third is world boss leeching. you waypoint, you put a few hits in, get killed and wait for the chest.

If you’re underleveled to a certain point (I think five or more levels below the event?) you will receive zero credit no matter how much you participate. So this isn’t a problem either.

A quick google search will give you the confirmation you seek

Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.
