Yeah this is stupid. I just lost two green items from the chest because leader decided to disband.

You didn’t lose those green items because you didn’t open the chest. Next run through the dungeon, you’d get the items you ‘should’ have got on the previous run.

If you lost anything, you actually lost out on the wintersday packages from the 2nd run through chest. Unless of course you were not planning on running through again.

Who said selling legendaries should be impossible? As long as you don’t equip the legendary, it’s not bound and can be sold, so as far as I’m aware, the one for sale is not glitched. The trading post has always had the option to search specifically for Legendary items, suggesting that they were always meant to be tradeable.

I think there was simply a weird overlap between days 1, 2 an 3, ending up with an extra long mission. Might be bugged, but it was harder and I suspect it might have been more fun than day 3 was supposed to be in the end due to it’s additional length

Those of you complaining about the chest. I’m pretty sure that the chest is on a 24 hour counter where you get the decent loot once every 24 hours. The airship is the same dungeon, so it’s the same chest.

Basically you probably got the decent loot from the chest ‘today’ before day 3 started. You’ll still get 1 lot of decent loot a day, just it wont necessarily be on the first run of each ‘day’.

It makes total sense for each day to be the same chest, otherwise once we get to LA that’ll be 5 chests a day instead of 1.

Don’t worry, there are only sprockets and gifts in the chest today LOL

That’s not true. First time opening wasn’t as good as yesterday (for me), but I did get a green level 80 ring and a green armour piece when I finally opened the chest today. A party member got an exotic everlasting winter tonic.

Happened to me too. It took me 3 runs to get the chest today. It happened during the Mad King dungeon too.

It seems to be that in some situations, if the instance owner leaves the group during the event, the rest of the group get kicked.

Blame the selfish player you grouped with, who decided they had what they wanted, and quit the group before everyone had looted the chest.

A Dev posted that we’d get enough pieces to make 2 toy pets. That suggests the first run through will give 100 cogs, totalling the 500 required for 2 toys. As cogs are account bound, it sounds like you have to buy the others (if you want them all)

Ohoni, you don’t need to have missions active when destroying the town. We did it after we killed Toxx.

Good question. According to GW2DB :

  • Eternal Flame (Exotic) requries 1x Orichalcum Setting, 1x Orichalcum Chain and 200x Flame Legion Charr Carvings.
  • Ring of Blood (Exotic) requries 1x Orichalcum Setting, 1x Orichalcum Band and 200x Symbols of Koda

However, both need to be learned from recipe sheets, rather than `discovered`.

As to where you’d find the actual recipe sheets in the first place, I can’t find any website that actually says. I’d assume that as there is no obvious vendor for the recipe sheets, that they are random dungeon drops.

Or, it could simply be that GW2DB has dug the items out of the DAT file, but the recipe (and thus items) are not actually available.

Mystic Forge - Adding 4 Legendary Weapons

This makes me ponder something.. If we put in 4 cheap legendaries, is it possible to get, say, Twilight from 4 Frenzy spearguns?

Assuming the forge accepted the recipe, then you’d most likely get 1 Frenzy in return. Generally when you put four items of the same type in you get a random item of the same type back, either in the same rarity or greater. As there is no rarity greater than legendary, and as far as we are aware only 1 legendary speargun, the forge would only have the one legendary in the tables, and would return the same weapon that went in. You’d simply waste 3 legendary weapons.

If you put in 4 different legendarys, it would give most likely you a random legendary in return. I guess that it might feasibly give you Eternity, but you could get it cheaper than using 4 different legendaries and hoping for the RNG to go your way.

For people that are reading this, wanting to transmute different stats onto the legendary. I recall reading somewhere ages ago, that if you transmute the stats on the precursor, those stats should carry through to the legendary.

…Around 50% of people in my guild got atleast one precursor legendary item worth 200 gold….

I suspect that means your guild is either full of players who camped the top of the nest with alts and over-looted the chest, or it’s full of liars.

Either way I’d consider changing guilds.

Event Chest Exotics / Precursors

According to what I am reading and the reports I have been shown. It is not a small amount that received precursors.

As I asked earlier, please don’t make this a complaint thread.

Now, the point of this thread is that the notes suggest that they improved the exotic drop rate. Precursors are exotics. Now, if a large number of people got precursor exotics, then a large number ought to continue getting precursor exotics from boss chests, and the gold value will diminish.

However, compared to the number of people that opened the chest, it was a very small amount that received precursors. Even if the market was now flooded with 1000 new precursors (which it isn’t), that’s still less than 0.1% of people who opened the chest.

Event Chest Exotics / Precursors

First off, this is not another complaint thread. Please don’t turn it into one. Before you ask, no I did not get a precursor from the chest.

Yesterday a million or so people opened the same boss chest within a short time frame. Most people (logged in with max level characters) got an exotic or two. A small percentage got Precursors.

I’ve been reading a lot of complaints about how it was unfair to add exotics and precursors to a one off chest, so thought it worth adding a counter to the argument.

What if they didn’t add exotics and precursors to a one off chest. What if they actually did, was improve the quality of boss chests in general (including the precursor drop rate).

What if the special thing about the chest after fighting the boss, was actually the item ’Ancient Karka Chest (Double-click to unpack wondrous things) ’ and the exotics and precursors will be found more often in all boss chests.

The notes for the update include :

  • The mighty Zommoros has slightly increased the drop rate on Legendary precursor weapons from the Mystic Forge from both Rares and Exotics.
  • The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.

Shinzin, this weekend was a bonus bit of one time game play, designed to introduce some new content. The key word being ‘introduce’. It was a one time event because it was building lore for new content.

Arenanet ‘could’ have just added the new area, creatures, pet, items, recipes and the fractals dungeon with no associated event at all. A mail sent to your character with a bit of storyline would have introduced it fine, most games would have gone that way.

Total Confusion

……for those waiting around when the event started, it was a very short cut scene. I was hoping for something more comparable to the intro of a film or at least something as good as the cut-scene sequence I saw following character creation).

You are joking right??

This started with 2 cut scenes, and between them was about 30 minutes of intense (but laggy) battle with LOAD’s of Karka (I killed 48 in this period according to my monthlies). The first cut scene occurred at 12pm PST and showed the Karka arriving in LA, the second occurred when we’d killed enough of them and showed the ancient Karka destroying the lighthouse as it fled back to the sea.

Feedback about making future events better [Merged]

Why do people just complain when new content comes out? I mean ‘really’ this is a bonus upgrade that we didn’t pay a monthly fee for.

1. Good idea, and I suspect that they actually ‘did’ throttle the instance population to a much lower than normal amount for LA. But how low exactly could that first battle have been removed to? It’s a pretty confined battle area, so it was unusual in the amount of players in the same space casting skills. Even with the population density it was really hard, yes lag made certain skills hard to cast, and you had to actually press attack buttons rather than auto attack, but if there were 90% less players involved, this thread would be complaining about creating events that are too hard.

2. Right-click party member, join overflow, seems pretty simple and worked fine for our party. It was only complicated because there was such a high population density in LA due to the timed event start. Your first suggestion to reduce instance population, doesn’t work with this at all. You can’t throttle the population in an instance while still making it easy for people to join the instance.

3. There ‘was’ a logic to the beach investigation. It started off a little random until you investigated the small piece of jetsam. That then directed you to look for a larger bit of broken crate, which directed you to look for a large unbroken crate, which directed you to come back with a crowbar. Perhaps reading the text would have helped you work out the order, but I had zero trouble working it out after finding the first clue.

4. This was about releasing a new PVP map, a new dungeon and a new PVE map. The 3 day event is just a bonus which they could quite easily have just not bothered with. That first laggy battle has happened, and will never happen again. Yes it was laggy, but how do you test hundreds of thousands of people logged onto a one-time event at the same time? I enjoyed it.

5. Going back to your, last point about bug fixing. When the event kicked off at 12pm PST and they were at work and being paid to work on Guild Wars 2, they were also physically located with the servers and able to do more than connecting remotely from home. Why should they have to do everything in their spare time? Are GW2 developers not entitled to a life too?

Preech, you need to investigate the items on the beach in the correct order. Small bit of crate → broken crate → not broken crate. It seems to be the start of a bit of a treasure hunt.

In return for donating items you get tokens that can be used to buy long-life gathering tools and Lionsguard Weapons.

I’ve used Food and Weapons so far. I wouldn’t waste food unless you’re a chef with loads of spares

  • 10x Food A, 10x Food B, 10x Food C (different Halloween foods) = 1 commendation
  • 3x lvl 75 white weapon (same or variety) = 3 commendation
  • 3x lvl 75 blue weapon (same or variety) = 8 commendation

Think it’ll work out about 3 gold using the TP to get the tokens to buy an exotic.

Linsey Murdock is the Game Designer specifically tasked with system design relating to crafting, loot and rewards. Some people may claim that her statements are not ‘proved as realistic’, but only a fool would beleive them, rather than the person who job is developing this system.

In fact these comments are from a thread sticked as the Official Response regarding the drop rate for precursors.

As a quick note, the higher the level and rarity of the things you are throwing into the forge, the better your chances of getting a Legendary Precursor.

Can you define rarity lynsey? Do you mean just any level 80 exotics or do you mean extremely hard to get exotics like named ones? Do crafted weapons constitute as less rare?

Though not all Exotics are “created equal” they are all of the same rarity: Exotic.

In other words:

  • named exotics are of equal quality to crafted exotics when it comes to getting a precursor
  • using level 80 exotics (highest possible level and rarity, other than legendary) gives the best chances of getting a precursor.
  • lower level or lesser rarity weapons can create precursors, but have a lower chance of doing so.

The precursor game seems a lot like 3 different scratch cards.


The Rare 75’s Scratch Card
costs 20 cents to play

  • guaranteed payback 5 cents
  • 1 in 5 pays 50 cents
  • 1 in 50 pays $1 (or a voucher, 4 of which can be traded for a Exotic 80’s scratch card)
  • 1 in 12,500 pays a special prize worth $300

The Rare 80’s Scratch Card
costs 40 cents to play

  • guaranteed payback 10 cents
  • 1 in 5 pays $1 (or a voucher, 4 of which can be traded for a Exotic 80’s scratch card)
  • 1 in 5,000 pays a special prize worth $300

The Exotic 80’s Scratch Card
costs $4 to play (or 4 vouchers)

  • guaranteed payback $1
  • 1 in 10 pays $10
  • 1 in 35 pays a special prize worth $300

Everyone wants the special prize worth $300.

It’s far easier to win the special prize using the more expensive scratch card, but most people will only pay for the cheaper scratch cards.

When they win the small prize, they cash in $1 instead of saving up 4 vouchers to put towards the better scratch card.

Then they start to complain that it’s too hard to win using the cheaper cards, so the card maker should increase the odds.

This is what I infer from the data.

When putting 4x Rares into the Mystic Forge you have a little under a 1 in 5 chance of getting an exotic out

GM’s have advised that “The [precursor] recipes for throwing in level 80 exotics have not changed at all.”

254 exotics = 63 + 16 + 4 + 1 = 84 possible attempts to try and get a precursor using level 80 exotics

84 attempts (using 336 level 80 exotics) would most likely have generated a few precursors.

As precursor sell for 300 gold or so, the `loss` would have most likely been profit

84 attempts is also enough to get a decent idea of the ratio of precursors from exotics.

That ratio could then be used to infer the chances of using Rares.

However, those exotic to precursor attempts were not made, because the exotics were sold instead.

Data = Far less useful than it could have been

Not getting the achievement for "Attending the Party" [Merged threads]

If log out or character select don’t give you the party achievement, try exit to desktop. worked for me.

Also, the chest didn’t show up, but the ‘press F to open/search’ did, and worked as good as it would if I’d seen the chest.

Silver is good enough for the chest, which I couldn’t see but could open. The event re-started after 45 mins on Gate of Madness. As other servers have had other restart durations, it’s probably random.

Hurricane Sandy Interrupts our Halloween Event [Merged]

First off, to those of you who are facing flooding and power outages, I hope you remain safe and come through this ok.

I can appreciate where you are coming from, after all, with the current state of ‘hind-sight’ we all have, missing out on act 4 ‘is’ likely to be different than missing out on the cut-scene from act 3.

But prior to act 3, when players were voiceing concerns that they’d miss out, nobody knew that all they were actually missing out on was a cut-scene they be able to see later on youtube. In fact, the general theory at the time, was that the party achievement that many of you are now worried about missing out on, was related to that one-off event.

That said, ArenaNet have already posted that the event wont be extended, so suggestions of ‘how’ to extend it seem a little pointless. The unfortuanate fact is that they don’t have the time to add special ways of accessing Halloween content and test it out. Programming, debugging and testing takes time, and Act 4 is tomorrow. By the time they’ve rolled something out, Halloween will be over and it’ll be two weeks time, and you’ll be wanting to play whatever this November content is.

It’s a shame a small percentage of the worlds population will miss out on part 4, but I am 100% certain that there will be instances in the future where different percentages of the worlds population miss out on something else, and the players who missed part 4 will be playing.

Why not spend these days ensuring that you are safe, and look forwards to whatever they plan on adding in November? It’s only a couple of weeks away.

1) Report it here. Make sure you tell me what world it was so I can see it and possibly get it fixed.

3) Trick or treat at a normal door with a few people. The odds that it will convert to a portal are are about 1 in 10. It stays open for 30 seconds.

Can someone explain how to get the lvl 80 rare version of mad memories?

To get a masterwork level 80 complete Mad Memories you must :

  • Complete Phase 1 of the Scavenger Hunt
  • Complete Phase 2 of the Scavenger Hunt
  • Complete your Personal Story up to the point you get a level 80 back item reward
  • Acquire a Fine Transmutation Stone
  • Transmute the Look of the Mad Memories onto your level 80 back item.

To get a gold level 80 complete Mad Memories you must :

  • Complete Phase 1 of the Scavenger Hunt
  • Complete Phase 2 of the Scavenger Hunt
  • Be a member of a guild that has the ’Guild Armor Contract upgrade
  • Purchase a level 80 guild backpack for 5 gold
  • Acquire a Fine Transmutation Stone
  • Transmute the Look of the Mad Memories onto your level 80 back item.

Do your posts seem to disappear?

Gaile, I was just about to report a bug relating to multi-page threads and it would seem that this thread might actually be the appropriate place.

When the 49th post is created it is added to the end of page 1, and a blank page 2 is created without a post and it seems like your post has vanished (along with the whole thread). If you click the link from the forum to the tread it takes you to the empty second page, which doesn’t contain the breadcrumbs required to navigate to page 1.

You can access page 1 (including your post) by changing the URL, or post again to fix the thread. As soon as the 50th post is created, page 2 has a post on it and the breadcrumb appears. This probably also happens prior to page 3, 4, 5 etc.

Also, once a thread reaches page 2, the +1, quote, and report options are not available on any page 1 post. In all multi-page threads, those buttons are only available to the ‘active’ most recent page.

[edit] It would appear the missing +1, quote and report options are more complicated, however I’ve seen the vanishing post every time a thread has gone to page 2 recently.

Halloween Weapons & Mad Undercutting

If you want to sell a Halloween drop, I’d ignore the undercutting, and suggest putting it up for sale based on what you ‘want’ for it, rather than based on the current price. As long as you have patience and can live without instant gratification, the limited nature means that eventually your price will be the lowest.

"exclusive" halloween rewards

Nobody can really know the answer to this question, we’ll find out next year.

If I had to guess, as there were only three of them rather than a full set, there will be a different selection of new Mad King legendary weapons next year (making this years 3 ‘2012 exclusive’), but the most of the other content will return e.g. the Books (Halloween exclusive).

But that is 100% guess.

Group Kicked to LA at random times

It happened to a group I was in yesterday just after fighting the Mad King. Once we were back in LA there was only myself and one other member still in the party, and it turned out they hadn’t looted the chest yet (I had). As our party was 5 members when we killed the king, and 2 members when LA loaded, I suspect it’s related to the party/instance owner leaving the dungeon/party.

also why do you arena net says that it was one life time event when there was video of the cutsence on youtube and the dungeon stay for atleast 3 days ?

Watching a video on youtube really doesn’t compare with witnessing a sudden cinematic occurring unexpected in a town instance without having to do anything to trigger it. It might seem like nothing, but I’ve personally not seen it happen before in any game, I usually have to do something to trigger a cut scene.

Whether you were first or 20,000th to solo the Mad King, in the grand-scheme of millions of players, you’re probably one of the lowest levels to have done it. Don’t listen to the poopooers, I notice none of them have said ‘I solod him with a level 16 (or less)’. Well Done

About the Drops in Mad King's Dungeon..

Generally you get drops that are suited to your level or just over it. Otherwise you cant do anything with the drops you’re getting. I’m level 75, and I’m getting the usual drops I’d expect, between level 72 and 78 or so. I can’t say you ‘wont’ get some level 80 drops, but I haven’t so far.

By default, my video settings have ‘animation’ set to low.

Just before the cut scene occurred I had switched them to Medium because I was interested to see if I was missing anything on the lion statue. It turns out I was missing a glow around the whole lion, and black liquid spiriting out of the fishes.

Luckily I was one of the people who got to experience the whole cut-scene.

Out of interest, as I’m wondering if a random decision helped me see the whole thing. Those of you who just saw a hole, are your animation settings on Low?
