Right now, they are kind of rare because they only drop from low-medium range chests and from Mystic Forging (MF) lower level materials.
They are valuable because they are used in the crafting of a Legendary weapon.
With the upcoming changes to Magic Find % (MF%), I’m guessing that someone decided it was worth a gamble to buy out the stock and hope that the doubloons will be turned into something even more valuable (they currently only serve to add MF% when used as an upgrade, so SOMETHING is going to have to be done with them).
That seems like a weird reason to be buying out silver doubloons. They are inferior versions of gold and platinum doubloons. The only people who will want the silver doubloons are filthy rich people with low level characters who really want whatever the new stat thing turns out to be.
They also drop from some of the loot bags. Just wasn’t worth farming them given price and drop rate.
Thanks for the replies, folks.
My wife and I duo’d all content to 80 and have very little grouping experience. Given the de-emphasis on trinity classing, I m assuming (hoping) people are more relaxed about group composition for dungeons. We usually play tank/healer in MMO’s but we went this time with Guardian/Thief for fun. Will this limit our grouping eligibility!
In reality that will be fine but some people will go on and on about how only this or that is viable. Some combinations are easier or require less coordination than others for particular situations.
That’s great to hear about the comparability of crafted gear, surprising, but welcome news. Usually the raiders and dungeon divers complain that this kind of comparability provides little motivation for endgame content. Why didn’t that complaint get heeded here I wonder?
I guess there could be a couple of reasons. You get the gear with tokens which are rewarded for completing a path but the tokens are used to buy a few other things as well. Gearing through dungeon is also arguably easier than other methods assuming you don’t hate doing dungeons. Much cheaper in some cases. There are also some stats which are unobtainable through crafting but available through dungeons(reverse is also true). Gear is also not as important here as in some other games. For example a friend has been leveling his mesmer completely naked, no armor or weapons. Last I heard from him he was in Straits of Devastation so that is at least lv70.
When previewing transmuted items the preview window is using the original item skin instead of the transmuted skin.
I am seeing this with
Ithas Longbow skin from HoM on a Rampager’s Bow
Various _ Banded armor on Draconic armor.
When hovering over the items in the preview window they also show the original name and icons.
Edit: oh and there is a similar topic but I couldn’t find it. Should be within the last couple of days. I think was referring to a specific piece of gear but this bug seems more generic.
Merchants have a buyback tab. If you accidentally sell something it is not instantly gone forever. However it does not persist across logins or map changes.
I also had this problem, then I tried to do the events without using any waypoints. I instantly got the achievement after 5 portals. I think it’s possible that waypointing resets the portal count.
I didn’t WP either. Plus, even if WPing DID reset the counter, it doesn’t make sense for me to still have 0/5 (or 0/1, not sure which) on the achievement panel. I should AT LEAST have 1 if WPing resets the counter.
There is no “at least one” with this achievement. It is all or nothing. You either closed 5 portals in 15 minutes or you didn’t or you did but there is a bug but there is no partial completion.
Edit: and go make sure you are actually looking at the right achievement …
Since you can get them from Black Lion Chests now, I believe that supply will remain relatively constant and the price is probably overstated right now. I expect the prices to come down as more people open chests.
Did you get one from a chest yourself or was that mentioned somewhere?
I just don’t really understand “This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity.”
If they are account bound, how does that let crafters form an economy.
These will be crafted. The account bound materials is separate. Go read the blog post again.
In theory the crafted materials will maintain a high value since they are time constrained and require a high level crafter.
Alcohol from the monastery in Queensdale. My elementalist is now extremely drunk all the time.
What an amazing update.
I concur. This is a fantastic update.
Now if only ANet were to include a way to get skins like the Jetpack again… -HINT HINT-
It seems that weapon skins obtained prior to this update, but are still unused, can’t be sold on the TP. This is probably an oversight and should be brought to ANet’s attention.

1) Skill points is also a type of currency. You can use them to buy stuff from Miyani who is next to the forge in LA. In the future there will be additional skills to added for each profession which will undoubtedly require skill points. Probably lots of skill points considering how many skill points they are throwing at people these days.
2) Still working on it
3) Which ever you feel like. I started with Twilight Arbor but that was just because it happens to be the one my friends were going to do. Doing the story modes in order would probably make more sense if you care about the plot. If you plan on getting the Dungeon Master achievement I recommend writing down which dungeon+path combinations you have done as you do them.
4) All gear from all sources are equivalent in stat as long as they have the same level requirement and rarity. The only difference is in how they look
5) With each LW release your character will get a mail about some place to go. That will be the starting point. From that there is generally further instructions on where to go next. Attempting to do the LW content without following those can be slightly confusing unless you’re using some other source as a guide such as dulfy.net . Some of the LW releases have skins related to them. There are two identical Black Lion Weapon Specialist next to the trading post NPC in each of the cities. You can talk to them to see the list of weapon skins that are associated with the previous LW releases. You might want to try getting them if you like how they look. They used to be account bound but that is no longer the case with the latest patch. They sell for a nice chunk of gold.
There has always been a reliable way to get all lodestones. The Trading Post. The changes is just a means to push the prices down. Most of them have dropped from 20% to around 30% since a month ago. Except molten but that is due to the dungeon charges and fewer people farming CoF. Crystal lodestone price increase is probably due to Superior Rune of Perplexity. All the cores except molten has also dropped in price.
I was wondering the same thing when I read the patch notes.
Even weirder with
Profession icons are now a fixed size regardless of map zoom level.
Maybe it was only intended for spectator mode.
If you did 3 zones then Portal Invasion Closer is supposed to be at 3/5. Why do you think it is supposed to be higher? That is either fine or you have left out some information.
On the other hand if you did 3 zones Worldwide Invasion Responder should be at 3/7 as well. Keep in mind that for Worldwide Invasion Responder repeating a zone will not count. There are a total of 13 possible invasion zones.
failed on overflows but got it when I was on my home server
I’ve ‘completed’ the event on both overflow and on home server. Don’t know if that’s it, especially considering that even though I’ve participated on both types of servers, I’m still 0/5.
If your achievement says 0/5 then there is definitely a bug. It should be 0/1 only. The only 0/5 under Clockwork Chaos is Portal Closer which requires finishing 5 invasions.
Edit: Swift Closer requires closing 5 portals in 15 minutes not 1 portal in 15 minutes repeated 5 times.
They didn’t include culling … they just removed it. You can just adjust the settings yourself.
Character Model Limit: Lowest
Character Model Quality: Medium
looks like a pretty close approximation of how it was with culling
Working as intended based on patch notes.
Minimap is now always centered and cannot be panned or zoomed.
Also a Fused GS. I am guessing all the previous stuff that you got with tickets are no longer account bound.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Magic-Find-Chests/597487
They only work on creature kills, chests however have a better table then normal kills. We wanted to avoid the game play of killing a boss and then having to equip your whole Magic Find set before opening the chest.
Also magic find is calculated from when the creature is killed so it’s also not viable to use your normal gear set kill a boss then switch to magic find.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Magic-Find-Chests/598159
It does not work on the Mystic Forge, magic find only effects the loot generated from killing monsters. (this includes crafting materials, higher tiers of loot like rares & exotics… etc… )
Granted Zomoross is mighty and I’m sure he randomly gives more favor to those who are wearing a tin foil hat in real life and are spinning in their chair while clicking the forge button he is evil like that.
The second post also implies MF has no effect on containers like the champion loot boxes.
Any chance they just had too much death penalty?
How shall one know that you have to do some dailies to complete this particular achievement when it is nowhere to be seen that these have to be done/ are included?
It looks like you’ve completed the entire thing with 13 or 14 out of 16 filled/ completed and there is not one notification how to finish this achievement (when it already looks like you’ve done everything, but it either looks like there is a bug or falsely marked as “completed”).You might want to consider to fix this.
And if there already is a statement that one has to do the dailies to complete the achievement. WHERE??? (Not obvious enough.)
That was actually in the patch notes.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-6th-2013/2565715
Completing the Queen’s Jubilee meta-achievement awards the player a Mini Watchknight. Completing this meta-achievement requires players to complete 18 achievements from either the Queen’s Jubilee category or the jubilee-related dailies.
I doubt it is fully random. More likely to be similar to Portmatt’s puzzle.
I’ve got the same problem! You can’t start a fight with Lightning Blade in one of the maps. Thinks that’s the problem.
The tower events which includes the fights with the champions have to be done in sequence. You talk to the balloon pilot to find out the current event in the chain and push the chain until it gets to the champion.
I am just amused by the fact that it is a salsa and darkmatter powered portal device.
Err, next up: Captain Rotbeard (who actually has no beard, by the way)
He just meanders around the wreck of the ship in Desmina’s Hallows.
“Treasure..devour..” “Ugh…”
I actually went in and tried to fight him, (to see his skills, if nothing else) but between the narrow corridors messing with the camera and all the other Risen, I didn’t really notice him until I died.
You don’t have to fight him there. In fact I don’t recommend fighting him there. Pull him to the deck of the ship. You can pull him there without much issue and I just realized this while writing this post but a mob’s leash range probably ignores the Z axis. If found with multiple people he will also generally go after whoever is dealing the most damage.
You could fix Mesmer portals through jumping puzzles by making the chest only spawn for people who have passed through specific checkpoints along the JP route, instead of just one checkpoint at the end.
That is going to be fun considering the devs frequently weird choices for placing those trigger locations.
So just to add “one last note” here. The thing about not having tanks is at best half true. I just finished an event chain earlier. There are a total of 6 champions. Tanked 3 of them solo without problem and by tank I mean the traditional method. Stand in place and trade blows. Doing it that way isn’t my ideal choice but it was suitable for the circumstances. This was on a lv80 but around 2/3 of the build is possible starting at lv25.
That wasn’t even the the tankiest possible version of the setup.
You can always find a highly trusted person to be a middleman. Someone with multiple legendaries + good reputation. I don’t think anyone would want to risk an account that has multiple legendaries for precursors that are worth less.
What is the risk? ANet has said multiple times that it won’t get between player agreements. This does make you wonder why there is a ‘scamming’ category when reporting someone.
Probably because those with third party fly hacking would have a field day with the free instant loot. Anet would be hesitant on doing that.
Following a blob around Frostgorge or CS would probably be more profitable and less likely to be detected and not limited to once per day per character.
Are you basing that on the numbers in the hero panel or your damage numbers?
Conditional stats like that are known to not display correctly in the hero panel but they are supposedly still in effect.
The feast/pot/etc. recipe sheets can be crafted in the MF. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items#Recipe_sheets
1 Chickpea Fritter
17 Bottles of Elonian Wine
20 Crystals
50 Mystic Coins
Being able to trade via a third-party app would require some stringent security checks.
You’d have to provide login details for the app to work and access your ingame info.
I don’t know if I’m comfortable with anyone other than Anet doing this.
But if Anet is developing this, I’d check it out.
Same here, I would be writing the app myself if that were to happen. Even then unless they also provide a sandbox for testing the code that is still very dangerous.
Fair enough, which is why some apps also released their source code as open source. You can look through them, build and run them from their sources if you prefer.
Testing code on live data is still very very bad.
Engineer is a great class that is designed to be “mid-ranged” according to Anet. Almost all of its attacks are ranged attacks, but you won’t be sitting back at max range and pew-pewing your targets. You’ll either be tossing aoe grenades, bouncing between ranges using your shotgun (ahem, rifle), burning down the enemy at midrange with your flamethrower…you get the idea. It’s a dynamic class that isn’t melee but isn’t a sniper sorta class either. Trust me though, very fun!
Heh I like going melee with grenades. It might have the longest range but it is also great for melee. Helps to avoid the slow projectile issue.
It is balanced
No risk = No reward
Risk = Fun, that is the rewardLet me let you in on a little secret, all the gold in Tyria isn’t going to make your character any stronger or you a better player. All those farmers in CS, FG, and the Pavilion are going to be sad little pandas when they do finally do complete their legendaries because making one is just 5 APs and nothing more.
GW1 player spotted.
What? GW1 had a great Risk vs Reward system. You had normal dungeons that were relatively easy, and gave you a decent-ish reward with a small chance of a really good reward, elite areas like The Deep, Urgoz, FoW, UW and DoA that were challenging, but really rewarding. If you were able to speedclear any of those areas, you could make some good money. Mostly in FoW and DoA though, UW was a little less profitable after Dhuum.
DoASC was one of the harder things in the game to most players, and after high-end GvG, it was the most profitable thing in game.
In GW2, every scrub can smash his face against the keyboard and make more cash than experienced dungeon runners are making, which is preposterous.
You say that like there weren’t people just solo farming stuff in GW1 as well. That aspect of the game hasn’t changed much. Except in GW2 you need a whole blob to make it work while in GW1 it can be done solo. Some of the things might have required skill but certainly not all. Cast enchantments, run into mob, stand still and watch things die is not something I would consider skillful. Coming up with the build to do it would be skillful but many people just copied the build from somewhere.
So they went through the trouble of adding a personal node to our home instance just for the heck of it then? No, they added it, at least in part, knowing they needed it to be of not too limited supply when ascended is released.
The problem is that people who missed the event cannot acquire the home instance node anymore. So if they up crafting to 500 you likely won’t see the use of quartz because it is unfair to newer players or players that missed the event who want ascended items.
If they do end up using quartz then they will likely add additional ways to acquire quartz crystal so it’ll be pointless to invest in it since there would be additional ways for people to acquire it like a daily reward for doing JPs, mini dungeons, some WvW, or something similar like they stated for account bound materials needed for crafting 500.
Its hardly screwing anyone using quartz in ascended recipes.. its barely the price of a t5 material and the only reason its climbing so much is hundreds of people stashing away 50 stacks… it would seem stupid to have made that home instance for absolutely nothing so I’m betting it gets used.
Barely the price of a t5? Which t5 is around 25s? You need 25 per charged crystal you can’t just ignore that part.

Mesmer is good, but the one thing I hated when leveling mine is the lack of speed. There’s no increased movement speed buff like a lot of other classes have and no on-demand swiftness either. After playing my Warrior, Ranger, Theif, Guardian for a while I feel like I’m moving extremely slow when on my Mesmer.
The mesmer speed problem is addressed by using a focus, and can be further corrected with air/centaur runes and the mirror heal.
I’ve been wondering about that one … can you use the choir bell/flute/horn for that too? I know the bell can trigger the (6) effect on Lyssa runes.
Might also want to look at why your gf is after ranged attacks.
In other games you don’t really have to sacrifice much for the range. Maybe the class is a bit squishier.
In GW2 damage tends to be inversely proportional to range. Except maybe grenades but that sacrifices projectile speed instead.
The problem with ESC is that it can also bring up the menu.
Actually, they patched it so it could get to the middle of the Pavilion and kill afk players. I’m not kidding, someone alredy quoted the patch notes last time someone complained about these swords. So not only this is not a bug, it’s working just as Arenanet fixed it to work.
Where in the patch notes does it make mention of those greatswords?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-6th-2013
Get the bloodstone if you have the obsidian shards and the two gifts otherwise you’re just going to waste inventory space for no reason.
Getting SP was never really hard and even easier now that champions have a chance of dropping them.
Edit: oh I guess the gift thing doesn’t apply then but still, SPs are easy.

Let me let you in on a little secret, all the gold in Tyria isn’t going to make your character any stronger
You haven’t been told about something called “Ascended gear”, have you?
Which is almost certain to be time gated. All the gold in Tyria is still not going to help much.
Were you alive each time the boss died?
The recipe is very reasonable considering how many t6 you need for the Gift of Might and Gift of Magic.
As for the soulbound tools. An item is being offered at a particular price, it is either worth the price or it isn’t. Do you go into stores and complain about the price of beer being too high? They are also bind on use not on acquire. They would certainly be more appealing if they weren’t soulbound on use but it is up to you if that property lowers their value enough that they are no longer worth the cost. Ranting about that would be a bit silly.
Insufficient information.
Critical damage like other stats is affected by downscaling so WHERE you are is going to make a difference.
Given your sig there is the obvious question. Did you look at what buffs where on the warrior?
Berserker’s Stance + 2xSuperior Rune of Melandru + Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup is still -150% condition duration.
I thought the purpose of Hornet Sting was pretty obvious with the 1/2s Evade in there. Especially if you’ve played a thief. If you have only used pistols on the thief then maybe not.
To me that is asking the wrong question. I have two elementalist but that is not just because I like playing elementalist. The reason I have two is because I prefer different specs for open world and dungeons. The cost of retraiting is not an issue but it is inconvenient.
You’d be surprised… have you done the new Dwayna Priest lately??
There are some people that didn’t turn off the horrible post processing effects yet? :p
I haven’t noticed any changes in that fight. Postprocessing has always been enabled but probably not at the highest setting.
