WvW progress for Gift of Battle:

You can take camps solo (just run off or let the other player kill you if you run into the enemy) and complete non-PvP specific dailies in WvW (Big Spender – you should have some badges of honor from achievement point chests, capture a ruin, camp taker, veteran killer). Just hang around in WvW after taking the camps so that you get progression (hang out far from a camp or back at the home base area).

Just make sure you’ve selected the Gift of Battle reward track.

Sentries also give participation. Even easier than a camp.

I’m actually in disagreement, a large portion of the community was against the initial jump from exotic to ascended as vertical progression is not what GW2 was/is about, it’s horizontal, so endgame should earn graphical things etc, but not a statistical advantage.

As far as “lots of time and farming” yes ascended does take more time then exotic; how ever be honest how long does exotic take…

well let see … are you making medium armor?

Got 1 Hardened Leather Section from doing an octovine. You need 3 to make one square and 10 squares to make one insignia and 6 insignias for a set. That is from around 15minutes of doing stuff. Assuming around 2 hours of play a day and the need to acquire the other parts. Maybe 2 months?

You can get ascended salvaging tools from fractals of the mist and get Stabilizing Matrices in return. As far as respec trinkets, I don’t think that’s possible only armor and weapons can.

Well it is possible for trinkets but only with blood ruby ones.

I’m curious, if ascended armor is only 5% better than exotic, is ascended necesary for raids? I’ve been told many times that it’s needed to do them.

It depends …

I believe people have cleared at least some of the bosses(maybe just VG) with masterwork gear or half the numbers. Half the numbers would be 50% less. If it can be done with 50% less then it can certainly be done with 5% less. On the other hand most people does not have that degree of skill to pull it off.

What does that all mean? It means instead of getting better at the game you could get slightly better gear. If the group doesn’t have the skill then it needs all the advantage it can get even if it is “only” 5%. This will probably be true for most PUGs. If nothing else it can probably make up for the slightly lower level of coordination.

That is ultimately what vertical “progression” is all about. In a way it would have been the more casual approach as far as raiding is concerned. Can’t clear that raid now? Just wait until you are 10/20/30/etc. levels above the content and you can easily breeze through. In that way everyone would be able to clear all content eventually. Which would be exactly what someone accused GW2 of having earlier in the thread. It currently does not have that.

Edit: One of the devs was also asked if ascended would be required prior to raids being added and the answer was something like “probably want to for the last boss” but that somehow got heard as “absolutely must have”.

To be fair to OP, this should be information readily available in the game when you go to craft a precursor. It shouldn’t be information that you have to lookup on the wiki or on a release page that is almost 2 years old at this point. No one should have to do that to get this information.

It does mention it in game but the language used it a bit too passive. It says “You have already crafted this item.” which implies it can’t be done again but “This item can only be crafted once per account.” would have been better for people who can’t handle the subtlety.

You got platinum doubloons from forging nuggets and shards?

I don’t remember the exact combinations of nuggets/lumps/shards and it wasn’t really consistent between forges but yes and of course some of the results from those were also thrown in.

I think the initial set of nuggets and lumps only gave me more gold than platinum while including shards gave more platinum than gold but there were other factors I wasn’t keeping very careful track of like initial input size.

Khisanth.2948

The only unrewarding high end is WvW.

Atm, raids are rewarding due to legendary armor requirements.
sPvP its been rewarded with tournaments and lots of stuff like ascended armors, materials and gold wise.

What about WvW? WvW should get some love in this aspect. Winning or losing should reward something more than a few greens.
I must admit that i play WvW not for rewards but for fun. However, as WvW requires lots of players to become a really fun gamestyle i believe that it needs some WvW exclusive stuff so people work together to win matchups.

It has the potential to offer the most fun experience in the game. :P

Winning and losing matters less than fight(s) that lead to the conclusion. For WvW the journey is definitely more important than the destination. That is also important for getting and retaining people for it. A whole week is a lot of time and opportunities to lose someone’s interest.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

Short answer: No

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooo

And it has nothing to do with performance. They’ve had to make everything ugly for PvP clarity… And it didn’t work, so now everything is unclear and ugly.

You say this yet Eles fireball and chronos wells got most of their old visuals back a few months after being nerfed because people didn’t like it. So ANet has un-toned down visuals before

That leaves out an important detail, it only got reverted back for the user. Other people still see the simplified version. At least that is the case for fireball. It is hard to tell with wells. Engi flamethrower is like that as well.

Do food items on crit have Internal Cooldown?

in Players Helping Players

Khisanth.2948

Sigil of Blood does scale.

Sigil of Leeching/Rune of Vampirism#4/Food doesn’t. This was supposed to have been fixed months ago but I am not sure if that fix didn’t actually get applied or if they reverted the fix.

It scales based on healing power. Which doesn’t sound like what the TC was looking for, based on his reply later in the topic. Sounds like he was looking for it to scale with damage dealt, so that dealing more damage would mean more healing, since he said he wanted something that would scale with his crit damage.

I certainly don’t agree that it should scale with damage, since it’d either be so small as to be negligible in order to balance it with high damage builds or end up overpowered on full zerker builds, giving them too much healing with no investment in healing stats. But regardless it seems like that’s what he was hoping for.

Too much healing for no investment was the whole reason the food got cooldown in the first place even without scaling it was that good.

Yes, that is exactly what i meant.

Sry but i came from a long line of games where Life Leech meant leeching life from the damage dealt, so this was very confusing to me to learn that leech in this game is a passive heal.

Migh as well call it like this to avoid confusion:

50% chance to heal on critical hit (cooldown: 5s)
-instead off-
50% chance to steal life on critical hit (cooldown: 5s)

Except that would be wrong since it deals damage as well.

Add "GameMechanic"-Dailies (back) to the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

Yeah, “real” tutorials would be nice – but in my experience a lot of people will just skip them. And it would most likely take ANet a lot more ressources to add them to the game than adding daily-achivements.

At least new event scaling with more Veterans and Elites would be nice.

A lot of the events in Core-Tyria should be on a much higher level already when there are 5+ Players.
It should involve knowing your class to do event chains in Orr, at least in my opinion.

Heck, i’d like it if the outpost system from HoT was moved to Orr because it would actually fit the maps.

What is so interesting about making an HP sponge into a bigger sponge?

If they ever get around to implementing the scaling they mentioned before launch then that would be different story.

If you’d read my former post as well i would love to see Vets have more advanced builds from normal foes and Elites more advanced from Vets.
That’s how those things should work and in some games did work (CoX for example had a great Trash-Mob Tier system where each different Tier added or changed how a foe worked).
And honestly, what normal foe is a HP sponge? Most normal foes in core game fall with you looking at them, now if they had some updated mechanics (1 poison stack spider spray should apply at least 3 stacks), and would fulfil different roles in a meaningful way (Undead Healers for example, they do exist), that would be something else again.

What i want is for foes to actually pose a challenge, heck i’d reduce the amount of damage power can dish out by quite a margain, the whole game needs a rework in regards of damage, buffs, healing and so forth.
(Please consider i want this for events mainly, although the average foe could use a look at too…)

Going from normal → veteran → elite is mostly just piling on HP and damage with a few exceptions. Same with scaling their levels above the player which also adds glancing blows effectively increase the HP pool without changing other things.

Level-based zone scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Things work as-is. If they worked as you propose, I could take my level 5 to a level 80 zone, and my health etc would scale up. But I wouldn’t have any traits and if I had runes and other upgrades they would be based on low-level items, so my level 5 still would/should get trashed.

It ain’t broken. You can take a level 80 to a starter zone and get killed. Yes, you are more powerful, but you can’t just run with impunity. Isn’t that better than expecting a level 5 to be able to survive anywhere?

Except for the more recently added stuff you can mostly run around with impunity in the starter zones. On the other hand it is the starter zone, not exactly designed to be the most challenging thing ever. Some of the mobs do not even apply the full effect of their skills such as conditions and CC.

Edit: oh … and scaling enemies to your level would actually make things easier than right now. Due to downscaling I can’t hit 100% crit chance in lower level zones because of downscaling precision. If you scale the mobs instead I’ll end up with quite a bit more damage in the lower level zones.

Also depends on wandering groups of chak and other stuff … like people wandering by and scaling up the event but not actually joining but that is a problem with every event in the game because while the game can’t wait to drop your participation credit for an event it is overly eager in counting people for scaling purposes. After 4 years the game is still incapable of dynamically scaling “dynamic” events. In HoT it will also start spawning elites at the slightest provocation.

All that aside the golem for that event is also extremely squishy. One or two slingers and it is good as dead.

Gear progression at level 80 is pretty limited, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on if chasing gear is something you enjoy. For me it’s great. If you haven’t already got a full set of exotics with matching stats you should go for that.

That depends … my warrior carries 3 or 4 greatswords. Two spare set of armor and trinkets with different stats of course. 3 hammers. 2 longbows. 4 axes and … some stuff I am forgetting. Gear progression is not just vertical.

WvW is hit or miss with vastly more misses than hits. Two of my most fun and memorable moments in the game has been in WvW but it is mostly a boring snooze where nothing happens or some lopsided fight(I’ve been on both sides of those on multiple occasions and neither side is remotely fun, interesting or exciting). So it is basically 1% the best thing you’ll ever experience in the game and 99% boredom.

As for PvP … I’ll just sum it up as not worth the effort. Can’t find any reason to care.
