I agree they’re too alike, but they do have a color distinction.
If it helps, they both eat bloodstone and either one of the other two, so maybe associate their colors with the second item
Anomaly has a different color but oddity and aberration are the same.
This is easily seen with https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/80144 and https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/79558 . Their icon property points to the same PNG file.
Those are from the rifts. You need a rift stabilizer to trigger the actual event to start.
My general tip for this game, not only when it comes to this specific topic, would be:
Always try to find alternative (easier/faster) way to do things.
That depends. For me if I actually did that the optimization becomes the game and that always results in a bad ending.
This ‘bug’ has been posted a few times. It seems the Oily Key won’t work on the secret passage, only the regular key. Until this is addressed, you will have to wait a day to acquire a new regular key.
or get another key on an alt
At least half the classes also have a leap skill to get around the jump
Engineer https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jump_Shot
Berserker https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sundering_Leap
Dragonhunter https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wings_of_Resolve
Daredevil https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vault
Elementalist Lightning Hammer https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lightning_Leap
The main thing that is probably causing the problem is a slight dip at the edge of the pillar. If you jump off from that it will be just slightly too low. The jump from the first to the second pillar is similar.
Shouldn’t need to touch the ground unless people on the ground are dong a terrible job positioning it.
This is also true for the story step that takes place in the same area although it can also result in some strange things like having white mantle spawn mid air. :P
The champion mauler is also done better this way since you don’t have to deal with the bajillion exploding elementals.
I think the issue here is that people are jumping from pillar to pillar.
The easy way to get to the last pillar is to jump off the cliff side. Don’t even go onto the 2nd to last pillar.
Path I recommend (no speed boost needed) is 3rd to last pillar > cliff ledge, walk around the ledge to the higher ground, jump off and glide to last pillar.Once you do it a couple of times you’ll realize it’s easy.
That makes getting to the pillar easier but the collision on the ledge is pretty bad as well.

On top of all that are you aware that if you do this the only thing you will be left with is the Sunrise skin in your wardrobe and 1000g? Forging Eternity doesn’t unlock the skin for it or for Twilight, that only happens when you bind it to your account, which you can’t do if you’re going to sell it.
But if you really want to go through with this your best bet is to buy Twilight from the Trading Post, make Eternity and then sell it.
Forging Eternity should unlock the Twilight skin as well. Even if it doesn’t you can simply unlock before tossing into the forge. Having it bound to you for 5 seconds isn’t going to make any difference.
The leather farm is such a failure that leather prices are already back to pre-patch levels.
How do you define fail?
I thought that was clear enough. The main problem people were complaining about was the extremely high price for hardened leather. Which, after a short dip, is back to climbing up again, from what I can see. Whether or not this actually means that the farm is a failure, as TorsoReaper says, is open for discussion, though. Maybe there aren’t really enough people who care about this (or making some gold) and hence farm the place, to make a dent in the price?
If we wanted to be kind about a theory…
Demand is related to need, but only a fraction of it. I “need” the various leathers, but I haven’t put in buy orders (demand). If I received any of that necessary leather, I’m not going to put it on the market (and compete/lower prices).
So, what we may be seeing is that the leather farm hasn’t sufficiently penetrated that gap. People who are going to buy or farm/buy will still be requesting, but people who might consider selling aren’t doing so because they haven’t overproduced for their needs. It’s actually still a bit early to determine if the centaur farm will make a difference.
Running theory is that the group nature of the content and upcoming new content will drive people into different areas (or even just slapping around White Mantle for their leather). So far, it looks like the challenging farm is a bust, partially because it’s still spitting out mostly T5 leather instead of the ones we’re starved on.
If t5 is cheap enough they can be promoted to t6. A group is also unnecessary given the high spawn rate on the bottom of the camp. Though the champs in up the path does help to give better and more consistent results.
thanks dan, your work on gw1 was awesome. it was also the first mmorpg I played.
out with the old in with the new as they say! hah, nah nah. glhf.welcome horia, good luck.
protip: best way to get people on your side is this.
grawl master race!
I guess you didn’t see the Commando video.
Does it finally apply the plating? Last time I tried it didn’t apply anything.
So … commando in expansion 2? :P
One issue with toughness as defense is that it is useless against conditions. In some situations it can also cause you to get all the aggro which would make it counterproductive.
As for vitality there is the issue of agony in fractals which does percent based damage. This means you end up taking more damage if you have more HP but unfortunately your healing is generally not percent based.
Then there is the other annoyance. For the truly hard hitting attacks even with 3000 isn’t worth much. For example if something hits an ele wearing berserker for 20,000 damage it will still hit you for around 12,000 damage. You might be thinking “but that is 8,000 less!” but it doesn’t matter if you have 11,000 HP.
For experimenting it is much cheaper to experiment with trinkets if you have LS3 episodes unlocked especially the blood ruby trinkets since it only cost 100 unbound magic to reset the stats on those.
Druid eh?
I just uploaded this; you folks might like this method better:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htDtAlwkAoY&feature=youtu.beJust going to place what I put in the description here as well. Ask if you want more help.
For those of you that don’t want to bother making the jumps to get the peach or the mastery point, you can always make your way up the centaur camp and glide down, just have enough mobility and heals (stealth is desirable!). In this case of the druid, I made use of Resounding Timbre (Shouts give regeneration), and Celestial Shadow (You go into stealth upon leaving Celestial Avatar). Signet of the hunt was probably redundant; should have put another shout in its stead.
This was hardly optimized at all. I left an offensive tree as one of my specializations (could have put in nature magic or wilderness survival). I also should have tried harder to avoid things and take my time, but I just wanted to show you don’t have to be anything near perfect to do this.
It also helps to get some gear with healing power, vitality or toughness just for this. Those unused random ascended rings or cheap rare gear will suffice. There is a lot of healing power/vitality or healing power/toughness armor that can be found at 60 silver a piece.
After that, you can go also east and glide down to get your peach.
O_o you certainly like doing things the hard way
Well, considering it took me 15 minutes on that 1 pillar jump, I think it’s at least more exciting.
Thing is, the brute force method isn’t reliant on ping or any kind of accuracy; it’s really just spamming buttons— good for those like me that really lack finesse. I’m honestly glad it’s an option.
This tactic also works for most HoT maps too unless you have to fight things. :p Also, personal waypoints (alt-click) can help if you get lost.
Unless you are just running up there without activating any skill ping does matter.

“Should zerk gear be used by casual players?”
No. Go to Dragon’s Stand, the amount of people who get downed in one hit is too kitten high. Squishy people die and do nothing useful, they wait for revive and scale events up. People laugh at me for wearing Knight-Cavalier gear on my Necro but in the end, I deal more damage than dead people. Thanks to my unique invincible Necro build, I literally don’t even get downed in PvE. We would actually finish meta events faster if people stopped dying.
That has more to do with necro than the gear. Same thing happens when I am there with my necro in full berserker gear. That includes walking through and standing in AoEs.
5 Garbage…: zerk/clerics/carrion/soldier/rampager with 6 assorted superior runes earth/arcane/lightning (useless build, due to no synergy, no concept, no fiing gear and in general it could outperform the number 4 on thislist in DPS, but any build could do so…. so that’s not a measure, escpcially as its focus would be on a point whcih is completely ignored by the niche build in 4
I actually tried the random exotics from leveling up/personal story thing. Wasn’t as horrible as I expected but I wasn’t using random traits.
I just tested this using a program that pulls character position using the mumble link and calculated the actual movement speed of my character
out of combat
base 294
warrior’s sprint 367 -> 25%
swiftness 391 -> 33%
whirling axe 400 -> 36%
superspeed – > 400 -> 36% on a rev
in combat
base 209
warrior’s sprint 262 -> 25%
swiftness 280 -> 33%
whirling axe 315 -> 50%
superspeed -> 400 -> 91% on a rev
Looks like it is working fine to me. In fact slightly better than fine since it moves faster than the 33% cap while out of combat though nobody is going to use it as a movement skill so it probably doesn’t matter.
something to keep in mind is that there is a universal cap of 400 so you can only take full advantage of something like superspeed if you were in combat and crippled or chilled
Additional tidbits:
Rev seemingly has a +10% movement speed as a class bonus. It remains even if I take off all my gear and disable all my traits and it doesn’t matter which legend I am using. This “bonus” is lost in combat unless you use action camera.
Action camera allows you to move at forward speed while strafing both in and out of combat.
All testing was done in Aerodome and Special Forces Training Area so it might not apply to PvP or WvW.

There is a bug with the New Loamhurst area. It will keep on displaying the seraph are preparing for an attack along with the NPC standing around even right after a successful defend.
The events themselves still seem to be running correctly but the display makes it very misleading.
This problem has existed since HoT’s launch. I often go from event chains completed → less completed → … → first event in the chain. I am probably part of the tiny minority that will be slightly disappointed whenever they get around to fixing this …
That scroll is going to clip with 2h weapons no matter what size you make it.
but movement is handled client side …
Apologies, I was wrong.
Just checked, while playing, disconnected the modem and movement, including jumping, was still available for a few seconds, then the screen went blank.
I didn’t get a chance to check any weapons or interaction.
Try saturating your Internet connection by streaming a video download and a large file upload while playing the game.
The issue is the network component of the abilities, not that your client plays the jumping animation when you press the jump button.
Have you ever jumped onto a rock, stopped to look around, and then 3-4 seconds later your character dodge rolled off to their death when your keyboard hand was happily putting a cup of tea up to your mouth? I have. I have also had many other network related issues, precisely because movement in this game has a network component. Another example, being teleported backwards after making a jump or landing on an object and being teleorted out to the empty space beside the object, so you’re standing in the air.
Movement in this game is straight up janky and weird, in my experience with it over the years.
The problem comes from the abilities and hit detection being verified by the server, which is great for anti cheat, but not so awesome for those of us with poor Internet connections.
Sure, I could fix the problem by moving my whole family to a new house and new schools, in the city, so we could get better Internet for playing a computer game, but… that would be stupid.
So… it would be grand if Anet would be so kind as to add an optional keybind for engaging the glider and allowing the spacebar glide functionality to be disabled. Not much to ask.
I said movement is client side. Not “everything is client side”. Using a skill is not movement although some skills have a movement component. Similar issue with dodge.
All client side things have the same basic problem. It allows people to cheat. It is the basis of speed hacks and bots teleporting around because those things are client side. Skills are not so they can’t do something like casting a chain of Meteor Showers with no cast time or cooldown.
I am actually jumping around and running with ~600 ping as displayed in the F11 window right. There is nothing about the experience that would indicate that I am experiencing high latency. I normally have around 80 but I can trigger the 600 on demand but simply starting up a bunch of youtube videos.
What is your typical ping? I used to have 200-250 back when I was on wifi and playing on the wrong side of the pond. That was mostly unnoticeable as well except for things like dodging Lupicus’s kick. The game has code for lag compensation but everything has its limits. The minimum system requirements doesn’t mention latency but maybe it should. A minimum latency requirement isn’t any more stupid than a minimum GPU or CPU requirement since they are all necessary components for playing the game.
The counter magic skill does not work correct against the skills against jade cannons. It stops the conditions from being applied to you but it doesn’t remove the ones it applied before you used the counter magic special ability.
Initially I thought it was broken everywhere or possibly all of Lake Doric but it works correct against the jade constructs.
Are you certain that you don’t have a 25% move speed boost by default?
Move speed increases (generally) don’t stack, you simply get the largest one, so you would see 125% default and 150% with the effect, if both were present?
That also depends on whether or not testing was dong while in combat. If not it is actually comparing 125% vs 133% because of the movement speed cap.
I have the same problem with Flawless Tiger Claw, The only thing missing in the
“wild abandon” collection, been farming it for days and no drops
I had that issue with the item that drops from oakhearts for the druid collection. I stopped after a while then it just drops of a random oakheart.
Yes, please ArenaNet no more auto gliding!
Movement in this game is bloody infuriating, likely due to lag. I prefer to use double tap to dodge, but I have to turn it of when doing jumping puzzles, because of rhe MANY MANY MANY delayed reation rolls my characters have taken to their untimely deaths. Now that I have gliding, I am finding extremely common to over shoot jumps due to the glider opening.
I’ve been playing FPS PC games since the 1990s… the problem isn’t me, it’s GW2’s server side movement code. Our only choices for Internet are none, dial up, and Wimax, so we have Wimax, which has great download speeds, but terrible upload (because physics) and horrible latency. GW2 is the only game I have ever played where movement is so adversely affected by network connection quality. It’s sincerely infuriating at times.
We really do need some quality of life options for people with poor Internet connections. After all, we paid for the game too.
but movement is handled client side …
I think you would probably most like warrior, with my second guess being elementalist, because they have the least focus on “build and burst” in the way that mesmer does, and they don’t involve juggling the same volume of things that guard and mesmer do.
It’s really impossible to know, though, because it is all about you. (eg: I didn’t find mesmer gimmicky, so I’m just guessing about what made it seem like that to you…)
I guess I say gimmicky because mesmer is suppose to be all about illusions yet they always seemed to die before you could properly build them up to shatter them(at least when I last played). So guardian does have a lot of build up stuff before you can actually do damage?
If you are using a shatter build then the build should be providing sufficient ways to generate illusions at a decent rate. What builds have you actually used?
The soup is in the bar. The same one that is owned by your friend if you played the human commoner story.
Ghost cat is on the roof of the building to your left from the entrance. Next to the stone bridge/ramp.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
Yes using it prevents scepter AA from generating clones although using #2 still works. You can also turn the tonic off by using it again although there is a hidden cooldown, the time is probably the same as other tonics.
the worst thing is that you don’t even get the AP if you restored the bar back to full. that’s not what one would expect. if the bar is full, nothing could have been stolen, thus you should get the ap…
At least taht one is somewhat justified sicne it is basically impossible to tell full vs on sliver short much like how VB sometimes misses t4 by that small amount as well.
They are repeatable but optional. I am not seeing any problem with that. There was an issue when they first rolled out in Ember Bay but that issue has been fixed.
By rumors, you need to fail event with ghosts that appears near noran’s homestead; only after that event with ghost lumberjacks appears, however there’s always someone doing that event, so failing it is just impossible and I couldn’t check those rumors.
The ghost event near Noran’s homestead is tied to another achievement – Friend of the Forest – where you have to talk to the friendly ghosts and pick the right dialogue and make them Restful Spirits. If you give the wrong answer they turn into Outraged Spirits. If the rumor is true that the event has to fail for the lumber mill ghosts to spawn than it definitely conflicts with folk trying to get the Friend of the Forest achieve.
I did see the lumber mill one spawn once. The first day we waited through several day/night cycles and it never showed. Yesterday we finally saw it and completed it we thought successfully but never got credit for the Moonlighting achieve.
I just did both earlier. The raging spirits event didn’t fail and the bandit spirits still spawned.
On the other hand Moonlighting seems to be be broken.
I don’t see any issue with it since it can also be bought with gold.
On the other hand when the next expansion comes out it will get a little weird if they don’t include the LS stuff.
By rumors, you need to fail event with ghosts that appears near noran’s homestead; only after that event with ghost lumberjacks appears, however there’s always someone doing that event, so failing it is just impossible and I couldn’t check those rumors.
I hope that’s not true otherwise mapchat will get ugly.
Don’t worry there is already a different achievement that requires a different event to fail.
The recipes are in the 5th tab.
If I remember correctly all armor and weapons bought with WvW badges can not be salvaged or forged. If you are buying them just for the skins you will have to either use them or destroy them once you unlock the skin. If you put any expensive runes or sigils on them you won’t be able to get them out to use on something else.
That was changed a while ago. WvW gear salvages into badges now.
You could try going back to character select and logging back in. You might have interrupted something by using the WP. I did something similar while doing the previous episode while Meemee was talking.
That is from your elite skill.
They don’t have access to the HoT and the new maps but they have acccess to all the maps in core Tyria.
Except racial cities until level 10, Lion’s Arch until level 35, and WvW until level 60.
Also, they can’t use the trading post (for a few days at least, not sure), send mails or whisper.
The TP can be used but only a subset of items can be bought and sold.
Gathering doesn’t make gold? O_o
I was thinking the same way. I’ve been making bank this way since launch … it’s only gotten more lucrative. You have to know where and what to farm and when to sell it. Unfortunately, it needs more ‘mind work’ to make gold this way, so people avoid it.
or just mine all the rich iron and platinum on each character
another very easy way to make gold is check which of the maps have shiny bauble in their map bonuses and just go do events in that map or use https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_bonus_reward/profit if you want to optimize
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
There is a short delay between the cooking and applying the buff for whatever reason. You might have moved away too soon.
I like using the shield on my warrior. Only thing i think it may need is a shorter cool down.
There is a trait for that :P
I’m not sure how to make it better, but I can tell you that I’ve been dragging my feet on completing my masteries for a year now because I don’t feel the rewards are compelling enough to do what it takes to achieve them. I’ve been making an effort lately, but it feels as if I’m doing it for the sake of finally completing the mastery track than for the skills themselves. And certainly not for the useless spirit shards I earn in exchange for experience after doing so! Can’t we do better than this?
Masteries … ugh.
Forgot about the problem with those. So many pointless fillers.
I’m fairly certain the medium armour mesh has an inbuild longcoat anyway, hence all the “buttcapes”.
Plenty of buttcapes on heavy. Light tends more towards the weird half skirts.
Half skirts with a poofy bottom. :/
I want my original monk’s outfit back! Thank Grenth for pirate and chef’s outfits.
Edit: Also khaki shorts, Ascelonian pants with normal skirt, town clothes, and many other old skins.
Like the light envoy legging … why does that stick out so much?
The ascalonian pants have the misfortune of that ugly top part.
Gathering doesn’t make gold? O_o
I’ve gotten ~50s from a single seaweed node back before the patch got added to Ember Bay. What does or doesn’t get gold does changes a bit.
Friends of mine used to PUG t4 fractals all the time. They don’t play much anymore so they’ve mostly stopped.
The power creep(along with the damage from breakbar mechanic) from elite specs has rendered many of the dungeon paths much easier now so those shouldn’t be an issue either.
I’m fairly certain the medium armour mesh has an inbuild longcoat anyway, hence all the “buttcapes”.

If you choose to do the reward tracks for the Gift and Dungeon tokens, and have any experience boosters, they give +50% to reward track gain in PvP/WvW.
While I don’t care about how useless the NPC’s are, you’re right that they are generally useless.
and another +3% to +10% if your guild has the upgrade
