If you have any other good baby sitting class ideas I’m more than happy to hear them too. My first two ideas where Guardian and support thief because the thief has stuff like great mobility, damage, and of course shadow refuge. Then there is the Guardian with their obvious great support tank potential. The thing that draws me away from the Guardian is their lack of ranged options, the thing that makes me question the Thief is how squishy they are. I guess by both arguments Guardians don’t really need ranged and my friend will have to learn how to manage aggro at some point right?

My main goal is to be able to help him learn the mechanics of the game by obviously informing him of important info, and also aiding him in battle and getting him to learn how his class works in a team dynamic. As a Necro all I can really do is face tank and turn his conditions into boons.

(Out of pure curiosity how would an Engi do in this scenario? I personally see them as a cross between a Guardian and Necro but that is just me.)

I just want opinions please I’m open to a lot of things.

Ranger just has so many problems, Anet just nerfed them, and I doubt they would do an entire overhaul on them. Which is what they need.

Simple answer? Just be a helpful guide and give all the supportive input you can, and introduce them to the wiki.

My experience is the game runs much more smoothly when you have even two people together instead of running completely solo, this is a chance for both of you to improve on each other.

How do you mean his events don’t help you?

Advice? Play more. It’s like anything else, practice makes less pathetic Since you have a level 80, I’m going to assume that you have your share of practice, already.

Class? In spite of all the complaints I’ve read about Rangers, it’s my favourite. This might be due to the fact that it suits someone who likes bouncing around everywhere. Much easier to hit targets with range, you can run all day with just the 1 attack.

I’ve heard good things about Guardian, just starting one out. I’ve done 80 on Warrior, Ranger, Engineer, Mesmer and Ele so far and the only one that never got better with age (for me) is the Engineer.

What is his play style in other games? hyperactive? plodding? sneaky? The answer to this question may serve him best in making that choice.

The Engineer was my first 80, and it made me feel like I was just a horrid player. One might suggest that the subsequent toons were easier because of my experience, and I agree.. but when I go back to the Engineer to finish the 100% WC, she’s still the one I have the hardest time surviving solo with.

Meaning I’ve already done most of what he is asking to baby sit him on, renown hearts and such. Of course the DE’s help me for karma and money, I don’t mind those. Its just the hearts and the world completion stuff. I’ve done most of it on my 80 toon and I’m getting nothing out of it.

He has very little experience with games like this, he usually plays games like League of Legends. All I can say is he is very aggressive, and overestimates his damage output. Which causes him to die if I don’t run in and take aggro for him. He is building himself to be a glass cannon as well so that also contributes to him dying a lot.

I would be very hesitant to roll a ranger. Yes they rock PvE with being able to tank with their pets and what not but nobody likes to have them in high level play. I see rangers getting kicked all the time from groups I’m in, and I’m a necromancer so that says a lot. I was thinking either support thief or guardian because those classes are known for not being awful in everything but PvE… Plus they have trait lines that actually work with their kits.

(I rolled a ranger up till level 20, love the gameplay, hate the traits and useless utility skills that make me useless.)

He is only like level 20, and needs to be babysat because of his low level of mmo experience. He can’t kill much of anything on his own and calls me over to help him with simple heart quests and whatnot. This is only slightly understandable because he rolled a mesmer as his first toon.

I learned most of what I know on this game by myself the hard way (This is my first mmo too). But obviously he doesen’t have to learn that way himself. What should I teach him do you think? Like what would you have liked to know early on that you had to learn fro experience? (I ask because I’m not the best at this game myself and maybe I could learn something here that I could pass on, or something I haven’t thought of could be brought to my attention.)

I was also thinking about powerleveling a toon to his level and leveling with him so all he does isn’t completely useless to me and that I could use a class that may help him stay alive and kill stuff as a mesmer better ( I’ve been helping him on my lvl 80 necromancer. All his events don’t help me and he dies too quickly and doesen’t deal enough damage for my conditionmancer to really help him.)

So two questions really GD!

a.) What advice should I give him? What are some tricks best learned early on that really help?

b.) What class would be best to use with him to help him kill things and stay alive doing it? (Something fun please, warrior is awful. I was thinking either a Guardian or support Thief.)

Edit: Thank you in advance for everyone who helps me. I’m teaching him everything I can but I’m not the best player, they are things I’m still clueless about I’m sure. So this could very well be a learning experience for me too, thank you.

Can we design new weapons?

Am I right in thinking this was something that happened once or twice in the first game? Maybe I’m thinking of lotro..

Anyway +1 for an excellent idea..ah screw it +2

:)

Maybe it did, I honestly have no idea. I never played Gw1… but I can see no harm in allowing the community some input into what they would like made and giving us some involvement with the actual creation of things in the game.

It would allow the community to ask and design what they really want rather than what anet is just going to make. For instance I saw two threads earlier, one was about greatswords generally just being too large to look good and the other was about a lack of good looking staffs. These problems could easily be fixed if Anet did this, or something similar.

Can we design new weapons?

Khyber.2693

Or armor for that matter? Could you possibly put in place some sort of art contest, suggestion box, or poll as for what kind of items we would like made? I don’t think anything like this is in place yet and it would be a good opportunity for Anet to involve their community in the game.

It would also help the people who are unsatisfied with what skins are available for their type of armor or weapon. Like for me there aren’t enough dagger and staff skins. So I could send Anet art or a concept and Anet can make a select few over a certain period of time? Like they will make these 5 skins this month or something.

Just a thought.

The issue isn’t with the fact that they wanted to make a cute Charr. It’s that it was done horribly. It looks unnatural, the eyes don’t fit on the face, the face is too smushed, the horns are too big, and her body is too big in proportion.

I do better work myself really, I mean they could have at least tastefully added a cute face.

lol buff warriors.

Play PvP with warriors some time and tell me how buffed they are.

PvP and PvE are two seperate entities. I’m more concerned with the stupid elitist farm fests going on at CoF with them and how they dominate PvE compared to all other races.

You nerf Rangers, give the necromancer toilet bowl sounds whenever they staff auto attack, try to add more trash to the pile of waste you call Black Lion Chests, and BUFF WARRIORS?

Why on earth would you buff warriors? Please explain to me how they are not clearing CoF p1 fast enough with their banners! You know Anet, it would be great if you at least tried to help the other classes, in stead of just letting warriors dominate everything by a huge margin. We other classes have it hard enough as it is, it’s already hard playing a difficult UP class, but when the gaming company that made the class shows it no love and lets it fall behind this drastically? Its a slap in the face.

On top of that, you didn’t alter CoF. At all. Are you trying to tell us that p1 farming is intended? That these elitist all zerkers all warriors groups are okay? I’m sorry, but I’m sick of feeling like I have to play warrior to get the full extent of this game. I mean really, why are engi’s, necro’s, and rangers allowed to fall behind so much? (I don’t have an issue with Elem’s, Guardians, and Mesmers. They don’t crank out near the numbers warriors do and still bring other things to the table with less bugs.)

TLDR; Did you ever think trying to get every class to be able to do everything may turn on you? Don’t you see an issue to heavy armor plus bigger damage than the highest dps elem? Fix Warriors and balance all classes relative to each other. Also fix CoF farming

I just finished my first 80 and I want to start on an alt. I’ve always loved stealth mechanics and the complete lack of cooldowns is an extra plus. I also recognize that it isn’t a class a lot of people desire in their parties and that it isn’t obscenely OP. Just on a fun factor compared to other professions, is it worth it?

Also what race is your thief? If I where to roll one I would either go with a small human female with whichever of the human stories are least awful (Which would that be…?) or a Norn female because I don’t know… it screams rogue.

Your team when running dungeons? And which do you like the least?

I honestly will take anyone in my groups. As long as it isn’t something ridiculous like 4 rangers. I personally like having 2 guardians, a warrior, and a mesmer, and me as Necro. We essentially have 3 tanks + an offtank ( with my necro build that is pretty much me.) And a mesmer. We never die and we still clear very quickly.

But team comps or otherwise, what classes do you like with you when running dungeons? Are they different for seperate ones?

Its not faceroll, its most damaging builds are always being nerfed.

Decent at pve.

So I can actually be motivated to play something all the way to level 80!

Classes I have tried and didn’t like:

Necromancer – I literally played this all the way to level 52. It was my first an I kind of hate it. The only viable build is bleeding necro, and the minion AI are idiotic.

Warrior – Easy mode, I don’t like it. It’s not very interesting either.

Ranger – The utility spells are garbage, all they have going for them are their pets which are also stupid AI.

What I like in a Profession:

Not a faceroll profession – It has to take skill to play.

Unique – Something with unique elements not present in most MMO’s. Doesen’t have to be completely unique, it just has to have something going for it. Unlike… you know… the ranger.

Some decent ability in PvE – While I adore WvW most of my time is spent in PvE and I can’t stand to not be able to do anything while roaming solo.

AOE – I adore AOE spells.

Speed and utility – I like to provide something to a group and be fast.

So can you guys help me pick a profession so I can stick with one for once? I’ll be forever grateful.

Craft for great Justice!…and err speed leveling

Key thing to do here is Make your Main do all the legwork and get some ecto’s, sell them on TP and do dragon events+dungeons for the lame green/blue loot. Sell those to vendors, and after a while you should have enough gold to at least start on the crafting one. (around 4g to max crafting level IIRC)

Power-craft your wait to at least 35 so you can start running AC.

My main Guardian took ages to level to 80 because of the range>melee issue. Then I made a ranger and that took me all of 3 weeks playing on and off after work and on weekends. However, since then a few patches later and it’s taking me a bit longer that previously to level up.

Forgive me for being a huge noob. What are the real benefits of dungeons such as AC? I have one other account that is close to 80 that I never ran dungeons on so… I don’t know. Just how will they benefit me in the long run?

I know leveling up quickly isnt the point of this game, and that you can do a lot of things at low levels that you can do at high ones but… I just hate being between the levels of 1 – 30. Leveling is always slow, I hate having to backtrack or go to other races starter zones too just to get to a decent level. I would like to save those zones for my other characters… Whenever I get out of a zone like the plains of asheford or something I’m always like 3 levels below what I need to be to enter the next zone at the minimum.

How on earth do you level up quickly? What is the best way to do this? Do you have trouble with the leveling system? Helpppp
