I think the RNG prevents this item from being overused to the point where it isn’t unique anymore. This is a fairly flashy item. Even if the other mats take a while, people will find a way to shorten that time if there is no RNG. Just look at legendary greatswords. They are legendaries, and still they are seen quite commonly.

I wouldn’t want Nightfury to be something seen as commonly as those greatswords are. Would kind of ruin the feeling of awesomeness when you see someone with it.

Is mad memories common? No, people wear off the shiny effect of new things as time goes on. That’s a gross generalization my friend

PVT armor with sinister weps and accesories. You can facetank almost anything in HoT that way. Took out a mob of 15 or so mordrem mobs in reaper shroud with LF to spare. Still need to figure out runes though

I switch out between GS and staff as needed, but maintain my scepter/dagger as my primary pure condi output

By the OPs logic I shouldn’t buy food at a store, I should just become a farmer and grow my own so I can get “free” food.

The OP doesnt understand opportunity cost whether you buy or farm the mats its still 3,000 gold. Peoples problems lie with the fact that the tonic is RNG locked and bound to increase in price when the event ends, personally ive been farming tattered wings just so I can take advantage of the higher price point it will inevitably hit as supply becomes more limited.

There is also that matter that a “Festive” skin req. HoT items and has the price point of a legendary. I think many were expecting a collection type deal (reminiscent of Mad Memories) but we got more long-term rewards for a limited time event :/

Mastery Point Farming, in the jungle?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kill.3458

Kill.3458

No, it’s mostly an exploit. Endless spawns in dungeons and/or at certain events in Maguuma giving XP (no Bonus XP involved there). It’s harder to prevent a event from being completed in the open world though, but you can get away with it for a few hours now and again. It’s obviously not the intended way of progressing masteries, to prevent an event from finishing, so that you can repeatedly kill enemies that spawn in droves. That is an exploit of a game mechanic, and I find it weird that ArenaNet is allowing it and not really doing anything about it. Mastery ranks lost all their meaning.

You do realize its not an exploit, otherwise Orr farming would be just as offense (how dare players forcefully fail events for more mob spawns!). The CoF thing has been there since launch, hell i remember running p1 for the first time back when it was fresh and thought that part was hard as hell and needed nerfing xD. People are just being people, if an efficient means of reaching an end appears it will be used

Came under heavy fire in game from people defending the path ANet took with this skin. Personally my biggest issue is that RNG gated tonic, second to the outrageous amount of magumma gathers you need to craft this stuff (as in ANet planned to have us both do the magumma, grind out halloween content, and do map events over the duration of these 2 weeks)

I’m still wondering why theyve done a complete 180 on festival event items, its quite the unreasonable change in planning

It’s actually pretty great. Completely cosmetic items that are expensive to acquire are fine long term goals that doesn’t lock you out of content.

The only reason to be upset about it is if you only wanted it if it were cheap.

Like legendaries, if you want something bad enough, you’ll generally be prepared to pay the cost.

This is a FESTIVAL item that requires FESTIVAL materials. It is not a legendary and should not be treated like one

Seriously TP flippers needs to get out, I remember how the unlimited bat tonic had it’s price going from 80g to over 250g, this is really infuriating, they’re like Qataris…

Or they could have given us a cool collection instead, along with a title and achievement points. I can’t believe they made a festive-themed shoulder piece so expensive. I was excited for this even more than the expansion itself- was looking forward to some kind of collection/scavenger hunt and instead just need boatloads of gold. To top it off, it needs linseed oil which guild hall upgrades need as well… Which means it will be quite a while until I can even start to work on this. /sigh

Thought it would be like getting the Mad king book from the 2012 festival, how ANet has fallen…

You wouldn’t be banned, it’s not an exploit as the game is functioning as intended, otherwise people who fail Orr temples on purpose are “exploiting”. It’s a flaw in game design you won’t be banned for it.

Otherwise Cursed Shore is the 2nd best place to grind out Tyra masteries followed by SW

Any advantage to running pure condi as a reaper? I’ve rolled a condimancer most of my necro career and recently changed up to a hybridmancer (PVT armors, sinister weps/accessories) and it’s been lovely so far, I outlast everything with great DPS output and condi upkeep.

The only thing is that I’m constantly utility changing and switching out spite for blood magic when the need calls for it lol

The numbers on the wiki are wrong they are only half of what they should be. The base value and coeffs are 2x of what’s on there. Also for whatever reason the damage ,and I also assume terror is the same, isn’t effected by vulnerability for some reason.

It’s probably a bug, does it not account for vuln presence if the enemy lacks a break bar? Been running around in PVT armor (sinister weps and accessories) and chill doesn’t do nearly as well as compared to dhuum stacks, or bleeds from scepter use (although it’s uptime is far more reliable)

Mentor Fake Tag

Kill.3458

OK what the kitten are you guys complaining about, I led a Cursed Shore train for several hours with a mentor tag equipped, I organized a Verdant Brink map with a mentor tag equipped, heck I organized a last min Teq run with one equipped.

Wanna know what happened? The train went fine and I was thanked for leading, the Verdant Brink map I was on almost hit T3 night defense I was thanked for organizing, and the Teq despite last minute planning went without a hitch.

The problem IS NOT the mentor tags but how they are used, there was a time when CM tags were solely used to show off that a person managed to save 100G and buy it at the time. So please stop with this bullkitten “Mentor tags are for mentoring (what exactly do you mean?) Commander tags are for commanding”.

Do note when I did all this I had a CM tag readily available for use, just enjoy the the unique ‘Mentor’ status I gain in map chat, makes me stand out a bit more.

You are missing the big picture which is what happens in a few weeks when nearly everyone has access to a mentor tag. Mentor/commander tags work when there are a few visible on the map. If the whole map is filled with mentor tags, you defeated the purpose of creating a commander tag.

As I said I’m my post, similar to how in the past CM’s would tag up just to show off and not really to organize anything (was a nightmare in old LA and Orr at the time), the shiny shiny effect will inevitably wear off with the mentor tags. Will it take longer? That’s debatable, most people are only doing the pack commander track to get the autoloot feature, and I’m sure a sizable portion of the population is mature enough to use it responsibly.

So with the addition of the break bar and chill being rendered to a soft CC. Is there any reason for a hybridmancer to bother spec’ing toward chill as a damaging condition (in both boss and non-boss related scenarios)?

Are there still benefits to representing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kill.3458

I hope there isn’t so all these 100% rep guilds get phased out lol

There will continue to be reasons for 100% rep guilds as long as guilds exist in the game; it was never just about chat or influence.

However, on the topic: I can’t see any value to the guild for me to rep; the value to me is whether the guild is offering bonuses or not (and how much chat is going on — easier to rep the guild that chats the most so I have to type the least).

Why in the hell would you join a guild and not represent it? Is it somehow diminishing you to have a your Guild tag next to you? Is it a disadvantage to locate your guildies easier? Is having the ability to chat with them a bad thing? What the heck did you even join the guild? To sometimes represent for 15 minutes to leech some Guild commis? Pathetic.

In any other MMO there isn’t even such a thing as “Represent” you join and you are a full member. Why the heck would you accept a guild invite just to take up space as a freaking person who isn’t fully joined.

Given GW2 allows you to join multiple guilds that is my problem with 100% rep,I was in a guild previously that absolutely despised that I was also helping manage a guild solely made up of myself and some friends. Thankfully my current large scale guild is a lot more lenient on the issue so I’ve been able to juggle both fine (the new guild chat is wonky as hell though, I can only see chat from the guild I’m currently repping.

So while I agree with base concept that guilds are typically something you commit to, GW2 did away with that convention and it sucks when people can’t understand why exactly you do as you do with the system in this game.

Honestly i can definetly understand the abuse, personally I enjoy the mentor tag solely cause if im the only one on the map using it, it kinda makes me stand out (map chat title is lovely). Really helped when I was organizing a Verdant Brink map for the day/night cycles.

Thankfully it seems people in Cursed Shore and Verdant Brink are far more mature than those elsewhere in the map from my experience. If theirs already a mentor on the map i either shut mine off or use my CM tag to organize events elsewhere.

Tyria masteries deserve this treatment, as it stands the only viable options fro reliably completing them is either ya grind Cursed Shore or ya Grind CoF, finished my Legend track and am halfway through fractals from CS alone.

Id cry if I had to run solely events when they give a measly 5-18k exp per completion (T4 legend crafting is 5 million exp alone…)
