Sorry I worded my post as bluntly as I did but Lux seems to have communicated what I was thinking there will never be a hard tank/healer/DPS but rather further improvement on the soft trinity this game has always had.
I mean Anets goal with Hot was to encourage build diversity. As for taunt, I’ve known it’s been in the game what I’m saying the taunt in this game isn’t dedicated to the tanking your thinking of but rather as Lux described it to get a team member out of a situation ASAP.
It doesnt exist? there is no reliable taunt function, everyone manages aggro, please stop
Considering I manage 3 or 4 char. at any given time, the Rev will be replacing my guardian. Its pretty much guardian but better without a freaking crappy elite spec…
Never gonna give up on my thief been maining/submaining him since launch
On that note: Karl bless the thieves PLEASEEEEEE, and stop pandering to all the noobies in PvP and WvW its annoying..
There is no gear gate. Please stop saying there is, as it is probably just confusing people. There is a skill gate, like all content, and while Im not totally against an easy mode to help people learn it, i dont think the content will be nearly difficult enough to warrant one. Maybe in the first few weeks itl be hard, but by month 2 pug groups will be clearing all 3 wings in an hour in exotics> IF it really proves a lot harder than that, and pugs really cant beat it at all, then an easy mode with reduced rewards (like severely reduced) wouldnt be a bad idea.
But again, its not a gear gate. Please stop calling it that.
Thank you hate when fools on either side of the argument argue gear>=skill when its the opposite. The content is skill gated and can be done in exo’s or ascended, depending on whether this last wing breaks ANets promise of Agony not appearing outside fractals then mixed Exo/Ascended will and should always be enough to get through the majority of upper-level PvE content
I love exploring the world, I hate doing hearts, get rid of the hearts (or make those god awful bars fill faster) and id probably be mapping te world on every alt i have
It will be 3 years next month since ascended were introduced. If you don’t have 1 full set of gear after 3 years, then you haven’t been playing the game at all. I’m very casual and have 9 Full Sets of Gear.
Super lazy hiatus vet over here, not complaining at all just laughing at people who realy think ascended is absolutely needed to do raids. Currently working on equipping my thief, necro, and future rev with a set
Its not even a gear gate, unless agony is present in Raids ascended is NOT REQUIRED, if people truly think the guy with the 5% stat boost is gonna magically be better than another guy in mixed gear (ascended/exo) who knows how to efficiently play his class, then their fools.
@Kill.3458
I do not believe the “negative” impact will be as outrageous as it is presented due to the fact that raids are not meant to be PUGed. You can do it, but it is not recommended due to the lack of communications (I doubt you can make 9 randoms get in a TS server – and if you tell me there is little to no difference is using or not a Voice module I will assume you are trolling). I doubt a wing can be speed run in 10 minutes and no matter how casual or hardcore you are, no one wants to spend 3+hrs in there. This means the priority are guilds and friends. In that set-up mistakes can be set aside, everyone more or less knows each other etc. It is true that some people may use it in a negative way, but, objectively speaking, the goods are way more prominent than the bads.
As I said, the raids themselves were presented with the recommendation of them being done in guilds and with friends as opposed to PUGs. You do not need to be some sort of ultra mega extra hardcore raider to use spreadsheets btw. I, for example wanted to know what spike rotation is the best for my mesmer due to the illusion factor. I had so many combinations to test, but went online and found out in a spreadsheet the answers with details. Was I in a speed run guild at that moment? I haven’t even done Arah P4 at that point.
TL;DR The content that would benefit from the meter aspect would be the one advertised as recommended with guild/friends as opposed to PUGs, thus, a big percent of this possible “elitism” being instantly neglected. Since this is the only reason to oppose this tool…there you go, problem solved.
PS: Just for my curiosity, why did you put logical between " . Weren’t they good, detailed examples? I can provide numbers very easily if you want. Just curious.
That’d be great, I put your logical in quotations because DPS meters have no true logical need, if they did they would be far more prevalent in other MMO mediums. They’re a perk, not a need.
As for what I bolded, to believe the majoroty to be good is naive. Rather all are are subjectively neutral until proven otherwise. Though I do agree that in an organized setting with a goal in mind, it’s more likely cooperation will supercede divisive selfish desire that gets the team no where.
Again as said before spreadsheets are great, not a need unless your party is desperately wishes to be as efficient as possible, if all the members are well equipped and knowledgeable of their class potentials solely from experience within the game you will be fine. Hence why I assumed it to be an aspect of more hardcore raiding culture (general curiosity is a different thing entirely).
Can people please stop with this DPS meter kitten. No it won’t “further organize groups” or “help you find errors” those are blatant lies. You find errors by doing the content knowing how much DPS person y is doing isn’t going to magically stop person y from triggering a party wipe (that may most likely be completely independent of his DPS output).
I’ve yet to play an MMO where such a feature needed to exist, why would you suggest GW2 of all of them to encourage an annoyingly seperative elitist ui addition?
I only took into account the DPS portion of the party. Thus the statement in your parenthesis is irrelevant since others roles weren’t taken into account, willingly, because of the example focus. A skill that does 100 damage and one that does 90 damage under perfect circumstances (boons, weaknesses etc) WILL make the difference between a wipe or not if you have 1 second left on the clock and could only use one skill while the boss has 100 HP left.
If there is a certain build ran and it fails to provide the necessary DPS, the meter would easily identify the differences in choosing another utility, another trait with X bonus etc, all in a matter of seconds and automatically. No more need of spreadsheets after X number of rotations with 25 might, without might, with frost spirit, before or after first illusion rotation etc etc. No more gaps in calculation in a stable form the mesmer DPS for the group for example. It’s way too obvious, so much work and time saved! The tool is an automatic system that you can use on the go to perfect the party composition for a X encounter without the need of heavy work, saving time and the nerves of people by eliminating the need of days of work in spreadsheets and ground testing under X amount of situations. So on and so forth.
Please, stop using emotions to push your hypocrite agenda. From a technical POV the addition of such a tool will add numerous benefits to the game. Numbers do not lie. From an emotional POV I do not care one bit since your feelings of triggering and oppression are irrelevant to me.
My support was only from the technical POV and your reply came from an emotional outburst without any logical argument. The only argument against this tool is emotional outbursts from certain persons who cannot understand the concept that no one is perfect. Pointing them these possible errors and mistakes they might make in an enounter = instant elitism. Typical westerner ideology. But of course we are the elitists and the doom bringers while you are a tolerant and understanding member of the community.
God speed my blue Sanic, God speed!
Well I’ll be, I’m sorry I’m not a hardcore raider who requires spreadsheet tables to determine the absolute efficiency of my run. I’ve done plenty of raids in my past and such “issues” as you seem to assert in your “logical” argument were absolute non issues. If DPS output isn’t enough, it’s should be each raid members responsibility to communicate the issue, if Vale Guardian is any example, it shows people are perfectly capable okittennowledging errors and identifying issues regarding the dispersion of DPS in a party without such a tool.
Without a doubt, given the human proclivity to abuse and take advantage of resources alloted to us, it wouldn’t be long before your clever solution devolved into an out burst of “your DPS is slightly behind everyone else’s by 5%(given the ascended boost), clearly you aren’t ready for this” kicked from squad. Now I do know their are those who would gladly responsibly use the device but I doubt you’ll see much of those people outside of organized raiding groups/guilds. Your solution rewards the few and may very well intoxicate the many given the power it alots people. ANet wanted a connected community not a further divided one.

Ugh the 21st cant come sooner, really want to mess with a P/P, Staff build in PvP!!!
Just speculating, but if you want a class where you wont be kicked out of super serious meta dungeon runs for not buying HOT, eles and guards seem like a good choice.
Oh I’m definitely buying HoT. I was really just curious if all Thieves/Ele’s would have to play their Elite specs for high end content/PvP in order to get the most out of their characters
The dodge changes and the crippling of our acrobatics traitline almost ensure DD will be used by most if not all thieves, as for the staff weapon, i dont see it being used outside of PvP
Yea the Staff animations and abilities are what I don’t find appealing at all. Do most think it will really replace other weapons for PvP? Meh
Synergizes REALLY well with P/P from my beta experience with it, but eh D/P will still maintain its throne

Revenannnttt
They’re pretty much a mix of the two, albeit with less spinny
More like a toss up of every class inside a single heavy option
Definitely not that ^ with the boss timer valk or knights would be an utter waste on a thief given the burst we can pull off, either your glassy zerker/semi glassy condi (dire/sinister)/ or full on glass sinister condi venom share build of course.
Does every boss have a timer? Is the timer strict or is it pretty lenient? I would think with 9 other teammates, your burst could potentially be more than made up for with their traits and boon dispensing. If the bosses don’t hit absurdly hard, then I don’t see the problem with zerker gear, however if you’re on the ground every five seconds you’re no help either way.
Probably the biggest dilemma right there, while condi builds are a bit more lenient towards survivability/DPS output on thieves its a totally different story with power builds, you sacrifice to much and don’t gain much in the process, we still have poor mitigation so a poorly timed dodge could mean instant death, coupled by our meager damage output in defensive gears, as in a total dead weight (and from what ive seen of this 1st wing of the raid, the bosses love hitting hard and fast).
As for the timer, I believe it was 8 min before Vale Guardian starts literally one-shotting everything in site

That makes sense. Those darn Asura would want to kill off the competition so people would keep using their products. They’re probably scanning our credit card numbers every time we use a portal too.
That explains the WP charges >:O
Nah ill stick with ley line guided waypoints
SW is the best
Teq is the only World Boss Worth doing
TT Wurm if youre in a TTS Guild or happen to stumble upon one of their Taxi’s (they also have a schedule up on their website)
I ran a Dire Armor/Sinister Weps and Accessories Venom Share Condi DrD throughout the beta and had an absolute blast with it, was nuking groups of mobs left and right with D/D Death Blossom spam and added bleeds from the condi dodge (forgetting the name atm)
During a raid i managed to get into was having a blast condi nuking the hell out of the guardian bosses, with poison/bleed ticks getting as high as 8k/4k respectively and with the chrono alacrity the uptime I had on the venoms was phenomenal!
Definitely think Condi thieves are in a good place, while I do wish we had better methods of damage mitigation (hopeful DD Grandmaster trait change?) but for now everything feels good
Im glad, legendary process should be an investment into ALL the game has to offer
Necro/Reaper is one of the worst classes for condi build. if you want to play condi, play an Ele, Engi or Ranger. all are way better at condi dmg. Ele can tick more than 15k with might+vuln
IMO doesnt feel right for necro NOT to be a condi class, it’s typically the class in most games that slays with dishing out condi’s. Playing power builds feels weird to me
THere are like 3 or 4 similar posts read those…
Whats an Asura’s favorite color to experiment with?
Sylvari
i dont see a future in condi thieves. no burning access.
until you need a lot of blasts/stealth or mobility (yea, actually thief is needed cause of shortbow) thieves wont be taken for an optimal raid.
we have to wait for the other bosses.
Considering with venom share I hit 4-6k poison ticks, 1-3k torment ticks and from my bleeding uptime at max 3-4k ticks I think condi thief is in a good spot
Condi dps with daredevil/trickery/Shadow Arts is superb. Runes of krait with dire armor/sinister weps/accessories with energy sigils for massive bleed, torment, poison, etc(depending on venous in use) stacks and superior survability just spaming death blosson and impaling lotus non endesly
Changes in bold, you want to help the party bring a venom share build, your far more useful and benefit more from it (considering we have to give up DA)
honestly your good with anything, personally i had minions on hand when was leveling as well as using scepter/Dagger because it made killing groups of mobs so easy
This would look amazing on an asura, great on a human or sylvari, but horrid on a Norn or Charr O_O
Too bad chill is a soft CC and is rendered useless to enemies with break bars >.<
venom share condi was very nice in full sinister
The fact that people are taking the ascended “requirement” scares me the difference between the 2 is laughable and arguably impossible to truly optimize a raid around
Really REALLY, hope ANet gets back on top of underwater combat because honestly some Zones have BREATHTAKING underwater displays, better than what i’ve seen offered in other games.
Again while I think a toggle warranted, I think what we have as dodge traits now in that spec can qualify as GM traits. As they exist now and especially Unhindered Combat they are GM+.
If they put the dodges as they exist today on a toggle and than add more GM traits they will have to weaken one or the other as the spec in comparative terms will be too much.
THAT said it also my opinion that all of these specs in comparitive terms across all the classes tend to be more powerful then exisiting specs. This might be a first glance thing and it might be they appear more powerful because they are new but it does throw a crimp in the plans to create a wider build variety.
No…just no.. Were the only elite spec that doesnt receive our unique ability till we’ve fully invested in the tree, thats a big NO NO in my book. No, they don’t have to weaken anything, acro line is already useless and the other ones are in a state of disarray with Trickery being 100% required.
Don’t walk into them, or just dodge into them.
Tried that. At the end of my dodge roll I took 30k damage.
Those traps hurt, had a DH in one game kill 3 foolish people who tried to rush him on a capture point
2nd boss (red guardian) was a blast as a condi/shadow arts DD. Melted his HP like butter utilizing a venom share build so as the non condi members could contribute on that portion of the fight as well
EDT: And yea physicals are GREAT for destroying the break bar, I personally kept impairing daggers on hand and used it quite frequently. HAvent toyed around enough with the staff but I’ve heard good things about the reflect on staff 1 and the weakness from staff 2
(edited by Kill.3458)
Condi more boring than Power, as someone who ran condi on most of his char. before the changes and have since had a blast with it, that is a VERY sweeping statement. I personally will probably be changing my Condimancer to a hybrid Reaper when HoT drops
On a beta character after 3 hours of PvP, I decided to open some reward chests. First ever asc armor drop from PvP :’) My heart goes to anyone who had prec drops on beta characters from anything but the mystic toilet. <3
Yes, this is a QQ post.
I don’t want hate and attention, only to hear if this has happened to anyone else. :p
Ive had 2 ascended armor drops in PvP in the live server, i’m only a wolf rank.
All Hail RNGesus
Nah, number one thing DD’s have over regular thieves is Dash because it make leaving a hopeleass encounter so darn easy. But there is no real P2W because that would mean all the elites are P2W which they arent just improvements on the old.
Anyway arent Elite Spec’s not exclusively tied to HoT anyway?
I havent found it to be an issue yet. I’m running a D/D, condition Daredevil. However, I am using Withdraw and Roll for Initiative as my dodges while in stealth.
This BWE pve isnt a good benchmark for condi DD’s viability since they apparently nerfed it down to roaming SW levels. But how have you fared so far?
While yes thief needs buffs in areas, this was a pretty kitten poor way of asking for one mate
Thank you for the heads up!
Still funny how people think we have healers in this game, the goal for guild wars was active damage mitigation not standby healer support clearing up everyone elses hiccups
Have you tried mixing Acrobactics + Daredevil + Trickery?
Yes.
It’s not remotely as good as what we had.
Not even close.
ITs horrible, we give up way too much and its not NEARLY as good as acro was before it was butchered. Give me old feline grace/might of inertia back ANet
This is non-negotiable, we absolutely need a UI button to swap Daredevil Dodges. This can either be f3-f5 each picking one, or a single button that rotates between them, and they can put a cooldown on swapping or whatever they feel is necessary, but a button IS necessary.
I love Lotus, when I’m in combat, but I absolutely HATE how if I’m just roaming around and dodge, I suddenly agro everything around me. It’s not practical. I also would love to use Dash while roaming around, but it’s not the best for me in combat, so I need the ability to switch between them on the fly, even if this is restricted to out of combat only it would be an improvement.
As they stand, the dodges are more annoying to manage than they are a positive, we need confirmation that they are at least working on this, but so far they’ve remained complete silent.
Yes, yes, yes! BArring them behind GM traits was a very stupid move >.<
Messing around with a similar build though mine combines D/D AND D/P, so far the results have been good (utterly hate the condi dodge animation though, were doing a freaking windmill)
Also using a Carrion/Rabid Mix for armor and Carrion/Dire Mix for accessories(cant use Sinister in this beta Zzz)
Wish we could use Sinister stat set on weps, for now running Carrion for both
(edited by Kill.3458)
I like the edgy thorn hairstyle on my male sylvari, but the sylvari female hair choices are simply stunning!
eh not feeling it in sPvP, but LOVE it in WvW and PvE! Gonna test if it works in the dredge testing facility during its cannon phase
The Projectiles in the Molten Facility are not unblockable like the Cannons at Mai Trin.
You can use every single Reflect and Projectile Block against the Tornadoes and Fireballs. That is the reason why Ventari is so awesome there with his 20s Bubble.
TY ^.^
If you plan on playing anything other than GW2 on your rig, don’t waste your money on an Nvidia card right now, since they don’t actually fully support directx 12. Might as well go for a high end AMD and actually get what you are promised.
Edit: the 900 series are all DX12 ready wha…
Nope. As a former Nvidia fan boy, I’m here to tell you they straight up lied to everybody and only support some directx 12 features in software, on your CPU. AMD on the other hand actually supports directx 12 in hardware. The full feature set.
Nvidia cards can’t do asynchronous computing, and yet they print lies on the boxes of their product claiming full directx 12 support and didn’t come clean until they got caught with their crap performance in the first Ashes of the Singularity dx12 benchmark.
I won’t be buying my next video card from them. I’m sure they’ll have cludged together some form of support for it by their next major release in 2016 if you just absolutely feel you have to have an Nvidia card, but I’m not doing business with them anymore. Between the weird memory issues with the 970s and now this business, I’m ready to give AMD a shot at my money.
Brb googling, i somewhat forgave them for the 970 flub up promising 4 GB of memory on the card when it in actuality only used 3.5GB of memory but this is something else entirely..
Edit: Ok so no GPU on the market supports full DX12. GTX 900 series will have access to resource pack 12_1 which provides better rendering. AMD cards (dont want to go into detail on the specific cards) will be getting 12_0 which provides superb resources management of processes on the graphics card to better the overall gameplay experience.
From the looks of tests I researched AMD has better OVERALL performance scores over nVidia (nvidia actually suffered from utilizing DX12 probably on account of the increased rendering) more than likely due to the increased resource management being allocated to AMD’s already superior hardware architecture. So your safe going with either but for the moment AMD is really doing great, gonna probably do more research but do remember AMD has always been quite bad with handling their drivers.
I’m gonna be stuck with my 970 for a while, better get comfy >.<
