“Most” players have not hit 80 yet…..

I don’t quite understand your post. Do you think they are never going to release new content? Are you expecting them to answer you before anyone else?

Patience, hard it is.

How can you even be sure of this?
Apart from the maybe 1-35 tiers most people are in the lvl 80 zones while those in the middle are barren wastelands. I would hazard a guess and say most of the playerbase is at lvl 80 and most have started an alt at least.

Heck I am a casual player with 2 level 80s. The only thing I can say is leveling is INSANELY easy in this game.

My complaint is about DR and its affect on the community and the legit playerbase. My question to you would be, how does WoW relate to this. I read your post, and I am complaining.

The only thing that comes to mind is that WoW is supremely successful, you can not deny that, and they do not have a DR system implemented. Every other relavent MMO out there are in the same catagory as WoW on this issue.

Is innovating the industry limiting what your player base can and cant do?

The core of the matter is that you don’t need all this grind. This is an illusion that you guys have accepted yourself.

You complain that you cannot make 7 gold in 4 hours and now it takes you, what, 8 hours to get 3 gold?

I am no farmer or grinder and I can make 3 gold in 8 hours and I don’t even have to be in Orr for that.

And unique skins matter but you don’t have to have all of them collected within two weeks either.

Currently some of the best skins come from dungeons. You can do a dungeon in 3 different ways getting 60 tokens each time. If you think it’s a problem that it could take you 2-3 days to get a specific exotic item with a cool skin then you are simply impatient.

Oh and if it’s bugged that’s another matter. That’s not the DR system…that’s a bug in the system and that needs to be fixed. From what I’ve read that should be fixed on Monday….

Personally, my dungeon rewards are bugged atm so I dont get significant tokens at all. It is also hard to run a dungeon if your guild has so little individuals interested in it. I would join a pug, but there have been rumors lately of people kicking people for fun jsut before the final boss.

And as a casual player, I want to get the most of my time while I AM PLAYING, not to be hit by DR after 2 DEs or 20mins of soloing. To say that ANET is against grinding is not entirely true too, considering the dungeon system they placed in the game. To a game developer, it is about keeping players playing as long as possible to profit from it. They HAVE LIED about features too, while folloing through on promises.

The fact is we are complaining about efficiency. You like farming less gold over a longer period of time? Then good for you, that is your oppinion, and that is also how you play the game. You most likely enjoy playing it that way, so more power to you. But I, and many others it seems, are in the same boat where DR is hampering our ability to play. We all play the game differntly, and this illusion that ANET is against grind is wrong. We are now grinding FOR LONGER to afford the things we want, there comes a point where people will say: ‘Dam, I will never afford this skin, what do I have to play for?’ They will leave, and might not ever come back.

On a side topic, I thought Anet employed an economist. Why is it that the ingame economy is so dam broken? Is there any other way to earn money except buy killing mobs and seeling the items obtained?

You might choose to believe it is subjective, but to me, they increased grinding and farming by introducing the DR system. Without it, people would farm far less. It was introduced to combat botting, which is still SO SO SO SO SO prevalent in the game. There ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY BOTS. The DR system is not heling with the issue, the DR system is not putting a dent in individuals botting and most of all, the DR is hurting genuine players who play with their precious time.

MY TIME SHOULD BE WORTH MUCH MORE THAN THE TIME SPENT INGAME BY A BOT, so why am I being punished for playing the game legitly?

Ronin I think the main problem is people have no idea what DR is. I went from making 7 gold in around 4 hrs to barley making 3 gold in almost twice the amount of time. Anet said the game is not about the grind then why is it taking me twice as long to make 60% less money!

EXACTLY.
The white knights are complaining about how people really shouldent farm, but ANET have essentially increased the amount of grinding we have to do just to keep us playing the game to get what we want.

Also, mayhaps they are limiting the amount of gold we can get so that they can promote their own gems→ gold conversion process? CONSPIRACY

I only disagree with 8, this is because underleveling is incredibly unrewarding and insignificant, especially at lower leveled areas. It is not worth spending time grinding in lower zones, unless you are going for 100% world completion.

Everything else is spot on.

Anet said this game is not for grinding, but then they introduced a dungeon system the required and insane amount of grind. They acknowledged that they were wrong, and changed that feature. Right now, prices are blowing up, in terms of unique exotics and the grind to make money has just increased.

Its ironic how you can say arenanet have built this game of grind while the inclusion of the DR at this present time is just adding more to the grinding we have to do. Without the DR you could afford things sooner rather than be forced to grind out DEs in parties in the hopes you tag enough mobs to get drops.

Can you come out now and tell me that I am wrong in terms of this? Am I wrong that the grind for unique skins is much greater with the inclusion of DR? Remember that players must have a reason to keep playing after they hit 100% map completion, after they get their exotics and that is to get skins. It is NOT AS OPTIONAL as many white knights seem to believe.

On the whole numbers thing, I totally agree that we dont know specific numbers on who is and isnt playing any more and also the amount of individuals that log in. BUT we do have our guild and personally, my guild of 130 odd have only 12 members logged in at any time even on a weekend. I DO NOT BELIEVE this is a one off situation, it seems incredibly unlikely that my one guild has about 100 members who have just suddenly decided to drop the game.

Remove the DR anet, no other successful MMO on the market has this system in their game.

Which is why I never take individuals that tell me to move on to another game seriously and that the belief is that just because a few people are posting problems in the forums that the majority of people in the game are happy.

My guild is a dead heap of chunk, and I believe the 80odd people that don’t log in anymore will come back to the game. I also believe it is not a one off instance. People must also realise that servers are capped off at a number of accounts made rather than players playing. No way is the server brimming with life like in the launch phase.

I can say for myself I most likely will not be around next month if I can’t even play the game for 15 minutes before I stop getting loot running around Orr/Frostgorge doing all kinds of different events. Also, its very frustrating that I stop getting badges in WvW after I kill many people in a short time.

Just from this quote I can see that this is not the game for you.

And doing all kinds of different events within 15 minutes is quite a feat by itself. Having that result in DR restrictions would be nothing short of miraculous. Surely you exaggerate…

It really is not that hard to circumvent the DR system as a real person. And why people think they should be able to grind themselves silly and get all the top gear within a matter of days in a game that has been advertised as game that isn’t for grinders for years…well, that’s just really baffling.

Again, if this post is serious I really think this isn’t the game for you. Not as a joke but for real.

What’s wrong with his observation? I run at about 160% magic find and am capped out at about 2DEs before the cap takes effect. Just because you believe it isn’t the it does not mean it isn’t there for anyone elsee.

Coin from events are already underwhelming as it stands. I run DEs for their karma and experience reward and have absolutely no problem from it. The mobs spawned by those DEs are the primary source of income.

I bought my dawn as a result of drops from mobs not because I profited from DE rewards. Considering s 1.5 factored increase will only give us a silver increase, I would say in the long run that this would really be insignificant.

What anet needs to do is fix DE for levelling 80s in lower zones to make them more rewarding and worth it because at the moment, every one and anyone at 80 are farming DE in Orr and in that instance are really only farming the path.

DR is a system. Understand the system and work with it or around it. People are just generally impatient and entitled these days.

I am not against having expectations but there is a little word called reasonable.

You don’t need to buy a sword for 150g and if you do feel you need it, you can work the system or take a little longer to get it. People don’t seem to get that you don’t need stuff like that to play this game. Sure, you may want it, but that’s not the same. And you don’t have to be able to get it within a week either.

The DR system was not the most elegant solution. I agree with that. But on the other hand, you can do a lot with rotating events to counter the effects of DR and I don’t think that Anet has to cater to people who spend 5 hours a day doing the same thing over and over again. Bots do that. You wanna be a bot, that’s your choice but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work around the system. It simply takes not being a bot.

A little intelligence and some patience can go a long way. Soon enough you’ll have your legendary sword…barey a month or two after release…then what?

So it is a system that has impacted the effect of bots? Bots are still there and most likely increasing in number, bots that are reported continuously are still there.

And all the while the system punishes its players especially when you have a primary 80 zone filled primarily with one mob type. It takes me 20minutes of soloing or two DE to hit the cap and it does not reset for at least 12 hours. THAT is flawed design. When you factor in how downleveling is just not worth it and bugged …. I still can’t believe people are acting that the game is absolutely perfect.

@muthax Server capacity is based on the number of accounts on the server, not on the number of people playing on that server at a given time. When a server is full, you can’t choose that server anymore. It’s not like you can choose the server, then you have to wait in some queue like in WoW.

Then why do “full” servers go down to “high” early in the morning, then back to “full?” Are you saying that thousands of people cancel their accounts every day, then thousands more replace them with brand new accounts?

At $60 a box that kind of turnover is tremendous… Arenanet must have pulled in over $1 billion gross by now…

But seriously, they did this in the beginning to keep certain servers from being overcrowded and others underpopulated, but they seem to have gone back to a more traditional method of controlling populations.

If I understand the situationn correctly, several Skill Points in the game are not resetting correctly, and people have been transferring to other servers where (hopefully) the SP reset and they can activate it, then transfer back later. They can do this even when the original server is “full” because the pop eventually drops to the point where they can transfer back.

People are transferring to different servers everyday.
We do not know the population cap but when you know a large portion of your player base at level 80 is at penitent and shelter camp, there is obviously something wrong.

“… I am rather annoyed and bored with this game right now, witch is really ashame, its been a great start, but after getting a full t3 cultural gear set, and doing world completion, now what am i supposed to do?”

I get your point. Here’s a thought, If you have a full set of TIre 3 cultural armor at this point you are in a small percentage of players, very small (those who could shell out 120g for it). The fact that you have this already is likely the result of broken systems ArenaNet has been working to fix.

Perhaps chill for a while, go play another MMO (If you can find one as entertaining) come back in a month or so.

No what is broken is the 120g pricetag.
Personally, I farmed enough gold recently to get myself Dawn. But alot of the gold came from before teh DR patch. At this present time, prices on rare items like legendary precursors, high-tier mystic forge recipes and even any unique exotic skin are rising while access to any method of obtaining gold (be it 1-to-1 mob farming or in a DE) is slowly diminishing.

They are trying to extend content and inturn, extend the amount of time they believe people will spend on the game. At this present moment, it is not working and it just screams the need for change. If you want an example, look a tthe recent token fix for dungeons. Anet had always stuck to their design model for dungeons, despite the high grind ratio, that was against what they had previously stated.

The point is that the recent buff to tokens from dungeons came with it an admission that, to be blunt, the player base was right and that the dungeons were a grind. They obviously had enough data to conclude that the playerbase did not find dungeons in ANY WAY rewarding, apart from the majestic speed runs.

The point of the matter is that change has happened and it can happen again. Dont alienate your fanbase anet because you want to prolong the lifecycle of this game. Features like a DR will not help this game in the present, and it will not help the game in the long run when new players can potentially join. There must be a better way to combat bots, I believe you wanted to innovate the MMO industry? I believe you wanted to stand out up above the rest?

Well the matter stands that you are innovating in including a DR system, but it just isnt rubbing the right way with a part of your fanbase.

I love this game its the best game that I have played in a long time. Having said that Anet should not dictate how players should play a game. Games are meant to be played any way a player see’s fit. The way they are handling things right now is killing off the player base and I don’t want to see this game die.

This is what hits the spot. And this is how I see the game in its current light.
My question though: Is GW2 the only prominent/recent game that has a diminishing returns system?

It just does not rub the right way that they introduced this silently 2weeks in and not during the beta’s when everyone could decide on its merit.

The small guild my friend, brother and I were in is all but dead, with the 4-5 people out of 17 that are still logging in representing other guilds. None of them came to the forums as far as I’m aware. They just stopped logging in. Thus, not everyone who has quit the game came to the forums to complain.

But you know what? You keep seeing everything in pink and saying the game is doing fine. However, do please tell me how fun the game will be when only you and your entourage are left playing.

My guild is also all but dead.
And Orr, being the prime endzone of the game is dead to me with the mass number of individuals at penitent/shelters gate DE farm.

While I did get a second lvl 80, few of the guildies have even bothered with leveling an alt.

White Knights of Arenanet keep denying to themselves that the game has a problem, considering MoP had, by all indications, a smooth launch too, I would not hesitate to say that quite a few people will not be back from their ‘breaks’. In total agreement with the OP.
Has the DR system/Anti-bot-code done anything to decrease the number of bots? Absolutely not. This is in no way a solution to the epidemic we all know as bots, and the sad thing is genuine players are being punished as a result of a poor design decison. I have reported a few obvious bots and can still see them in the game to this very day, the bots are still farming DE’s and the economy is pretty much kittened up. Your DR system has little to no effect to the bots.

Guild Wars 2 might really change the mmo-market, it is the only one (that I know off) on the market with a punishing diminishing rewards system that severly limits what a player can and cannot do. If I want to farm, why cant I? I remember them trowing the statement around that we could play the game however we wanted.

And the saddest part of it all? The ninja add of this ‘incredible’ feature. Where was it in the BWE when people were testing whether they wanted to buy the game or not? Downleveling is not an effective enough system for higher leveled players to even consider when grinding for money.

The OP sums it up nicely towards individuals that think DR is the way to go:
If I leave, who will you buy materials/items from?
If I leave, who will you sell materials/items to?
If I leave, who will you stumble upon and do an event?
If I leave, who will join your guild so that it expands?
If I leave, who will you play with on WvW?
If I leave, who will play against on Wvw?
Replace I with the playerbase that is unhappy and you get the picture. Either you like it or not, in order to play an MMO, you need to have a big playerbase.

Every single F2P game I have joined had community members that spouted the ‘if you dont like the game move on’ bullcrap, and each game slowly died with this mentality. But the main question is: Are arenanet trying to keep its customers by limiting the ways they can earn money? Is this system really the way to combat bots going forward?

But the main question is, why Anet? Why are you punishing us for playing the game the way we want to? Why are you punishing us because you cant combat the bot problem?

At level 80 we are essentially given an option of grinding a specific content or have nothing to do. I also love how viable complaints are termed as ‘crying’. We paid for a product and we are, by law I believe, allowed to complain. If you cant handle it, the forums are obviously not for you.

You might state that you dont need to get the armour, but that in itself is a moot arguement, what else are you supposed to do at endgame but grind for looks? Not everyone PVP’s, and WvW is not viable for every server. And its not like we are allowed to grind, they nerfed eveything.

Face it. Much like other mmo’s contain people with their gear treadmill, GW2 tries to contain people with its looks treadmill, which is the only thing you can do at endgame once you max out (which in itself is pretty easy.) You DO have to grind, lest you have nothing to do. Good for you if you like the challenge and consider it just reward. That is how you play the game and I, and many others, wont necessarily agree with you.

But the point is, why was this needed in the first place? To combat bots? Seems like a lazy implementation to me when you punish your normal legit players and the much lower population of people that bot.

If GW1 is of any indication, then the anti-farming policy comes from the view, that they do not want to encourage players to do repetitive stuff. And they achieve this, by discouraging the farming of the same area. By this they expect that players will expand their “farming territory”, thus “enjoying” more parts of the game.

At least this is what I understand.

But the point is, this is not GW1. We are essentially, no matter how cheesy this sounds, in a new era of gaming where comparing it to an aged game is somewhat bemusing to me. GW2 is essentially a different game to GW1, the only thing that is really the same is the world and the lore.

To me it just seems they dont want people to earn large sums of money and mayhaps want people who are desperate for money spend real-hard cash on their gems-gold conversion.

There is absolutely no reason they should explain how their anti-farm code works. Explaining how it works is the exact same thing as explaining how to work around it.

Which will eventually happen.
Sooner or later, someone is gonna get enough data from farming to provide information on, in particular, the amount of time needed before the code is reset. Or maybe the amount of items can be dropped before it caps.

I am quite sure most people know the limitations of farming. In my instance, I can farm for about 30mins on a specific mob with 150%+ MF before I notice a large drop off in drops and there have been posts from others that clarify my thoughts on the idea that mine is not a one off situation.

But the point is, why was this needed in the first place? To combat bots? Seems like a lazy implementation to me when you punish your normal legit players and the much lower population of people that bot.

Well done, you are slowly alienating your fanbase. It began so well when community interaction was so so prevalent and lately, there has been nothing (save the support staff). And after the blog post on their ‘vision’ for their endgame …..

But honestly, the changes limiting an individuals ability to farm was a kick in the kitten.

I really don’t understand this. First you designed the rewards for these dungeons (buying things with tokens) to only be achievable after running the dungeon 50+ times (a terrible way to do it), and now you’re making it so people aren’t even well rewarded for the time they put into it?

At least before I felt like I was making some gold as a way to justify putting up with grinding the same dungeon over and over and over again to get the armor rewards, but now I’m actually LOSING money on each run because the repair costs alone completely swamp the rewards the dungeon provides.

Looks like I’ll be playing Borderlands 2 sooner than I thought.

Actually its 60 for full armour set + 20 per weapon, but hey whos counting because grinding for dungeon rewards are fun!

^ Its because ‘many’ individuals believe completing hard content is reward in itself. And because of them, we should also feel ‘rewarded’ after accomplishing said content.

Maybe its more fun for the people who want a really challenging dungeon but those types of players are less than 1% of the entire player base. Those who just started to gear up or collect the charr carvings in the dungeon with out the top end gear yet via crafting are most probably stuck. Sure they could have nerfed the 26s down to 15s per run and EXP but making the dungeon this hard is a huge blow to the players. I understand that this will force some players to buy gems as an alternative method to gain gold but this is just a new from Anet!

I just wish we had numbers on what percentage of the fanbase was running explorables. And I would also bet everything on my account that this change will alienate more individuals from the ‘joy’ of dungeoning.

As soon as I am done with my 500 AC tokens for Sunrise, I personally wont be running any more of these pathetic time/money sinks.

This is what happens. Everyone complains constantly about something, so they take huge measures to change it. Then everyone is even more unhappy with the result.

Well they made it more risk with less reward. Who in their right mind would waste their time on this?

They really really love making dungeons their goldsinks.
On an honest note, who the hell is gonna run CM now that you can essentially get the same exp/reward but doing ONE DE in Orr?

Dissapointing anet. I wonder what the knights will say to defend this change.

What’s so disappointing about them? Ele was going to be my second profession to 80 for the sheer amount of variety in magic.

We’re really squishy. And according to some, we don’t do as much damage as other classes either.

We don’t. The difference between a warrior and ele in survivability, damage and utility are night and day.

^I don’t see how it matters considering the whole general discussion section is stating how an individual is disappointed in the game or a thankyou thread.

There are a ton of problems and it’s not like anyone official is really looking at the forums.Yout will always see complaints about things on the general forums.

Played a warrior and ele(my starter) to 80 and noticed some glaring differences between the two. To cut a long story short, I love my warrior and the variety of ways I can use her. I particularly love the banner-heal build when it was recommended to me, and haven’t really looked back.

Won’t really get into the ele but will describe it in one word: disappointing. They used to be so dam fun.

The OP brings up a legitimate problem and all he gets is troll posts from fanboys.

Which happen to be met with these lame, hipster bandwagon replies.

Since WoW, all you see are these stupid troll/fanboy words get tossed around. Get an education or buy a thesaurus. Stop it with this idiotic fad.

I do emphasize the education part. I mean, when does “all he gets is troll posts from fanboys” makes any sense in the english language? The word ‘are’ should replace something in that sentence. Figure it out.

But their replies don’t help the OP. It is a fact that anet fanboys ravage these forums because they can’t see anything wrong with the game, even if it is blatantly obvious. Their trolling adds nothing to a solution and the incredible replies that insinuate the OP would not do the most basic of things like check for a chest are insulting.

There is a problem here and the OP has a right to feel frustrated. It would suck to put 20 minutes of time into an event for nothing but virtual glory.

And it’s amazing how many times wow is bought up when someone does not agree with the opinion of anet ‘FANBOYS’. smfh
