My problem with that is that some TP stuff are considered almost mandatory, like the BL salvage kit and the bank space.
Now that the gem prices have gone through the roof I feel stucked.
While I’m ranting a lot on this forum, I have to agree that in many aspects, Guild Wars 2 will make me never look again at MMOs the same way. I can’t imagine my self playing another MMO and see someone alse take the loot I want, or staying away from people to keep my own rewards, or paying 15 euros a month to continue playing slow games thinking that it’s the only way to get huge patches out of them, or being driven arround by questionmarks.
The game did had few problems, such us: the mandatory bank upgrade, the unclimacting final boss, and the waiting for the right member of the holly trinity being replaced with the waiting for someone who haven’t done a particular story dungeon yet. But thanks to the generus patches and updates and a listening team, most of it’s problems are fading away.
Little to say that it’s the game that impressed me the most in the last 2 years. I’m a person who finds faults in a lot of things. It’s rare to find a game with so little to complain about, and even rarerer to find a game so willing to fix the things you do complain about.
GW2 is being nominated for best PC and best Multyplayer game of the year by gametrailers, and it got my vote in both.
After the recent events I found the price of Gems to be trippled, so now I can only buy stuff from the cash shop with real money, unless I want to be left pennyless.
This is a nice excuse to discuss the content from the cash shop that you think is mandatory, aka the content that any player will be left with no other choice but to buy it.
My vote goes to bank space. The existing given by the game is not nearly enough, and all players will eventually be forced to spend real money, or find a good gem deal to increase it. It doesn’t help the fact that all characters in your account are using the same space.
Never said anything about changing the story. Only improving and increasing it.
Also, it’s clear that the story hasn’t ended. Only the Zaitan Saga!
What I’m saying is: When the personal story for the next E-Dragon is added, it should be playable both a branching path from the personal story, and as a continuation after whatever dragon you beat first!
Dungeons certainly need reworking!
I’m glad that A-net finaly decided to improve them!
A fooly randomized dungeon isn’t such a bad idea, but I’m afraid that it’ll fall in the same trap the existing dungeons fell… They just take to long to complete, and the most basic mobs have tons of health (silver portraits).
I totally suport more randomisation though.
current problem:
Once you’ve end the story mode, there aren’t much alse to do in story mode, beside repeating key dungeons.
However as Inkubus.7529 suggested in another topic, there are still many good story oportunities around tyria, and it’s a shame if they where left untouched.
Solution:
Allow us to take optional side stories. These will be like the scavanger hunts of the 1 time event, but they’ll actually use the story mode engine (with dialogue, instanced arears, branching paths and rewards).
- Each player can have only 1 tracked at a time. And it’ll appear in uper right corner similar to the personal story, with the diference that it will be in yellow letters instead of green.
- Future 1-time scavanger hunts should have that form!
- Among those side stories, A-net could put simpler single player forms of their 1-time events (ex: ocupation of southsun cove) since they’ll be in instanced areas. They won’t have the exotic rewards or the many players, but at least they should have at least dialogue cutscenes.
result:
- New content for the game.
- More story for the game.
- Chance for A-net to touch importand aspects such as the centraurs, the tengu or Ebonhawke, that barelly got any attention in the game, and their story cannot be expanded by mare events.
- Chance for players who missed some 1-events to find what the heII is going on whith these new area.
- Engine for future content and events.
Imporant notice:
Before A-net continue making additions to the game’s story mode. They should considere reworking their current talking cutscene engine. If left as it is, with no more than 2 people standing, painted backgrounds and no interaction besides scatching their heads and look around, it will be very un-appealing. It’s curently like a pupet show by 1 person.
“Wall of text” (try to use more paragraphs)
Well… I’m trying to be realistic.
It would be fun to advance the story mode of each individual race, but if they where to go that far, then it would mean to completly double the story mode. While it is possible to do that through an expansion, since we’ll have high expectations there, I doubt they’ll ever do it through a patch in the near future.
However I think they could tie up loose ends and focus a bit more on each race’s individual problems through optional side-stories. But this is a new topic on it’s own!…
(edited by Kite.2510)
While the current personal story is a bit unengaging there are already threads on how to fix it’s bad delivery.(including mine).
Instead I’ll suggest a way to continue it beyond Zaitan, to the next/rest of the E.Dragons.
My suggestion:
Have the player be asked after the lvl 40 story “What dragon they want to take care of first”, and at lvl 50 it will branch before the “supposed” battle for fort trinity. If they choose Zaitan, then the story will continue the same way it originally did. If they choose another Dragon (for ex. Jormag), then the story will continue deferently, with Jormag being the main focus till lvl 80, and a deferent leader to lead the Pact against him.
Once the players complete the personal story with the 1rst Dragon, (like mosk players will already have before the release of the next dragon patch/expansion) then it’ll immidiatly recicle it self from the Dragon choice of lvl 50 with a deferent Dragon, but this time it’ll be for lvl 80, and the other dragon will be considered/mentioned as defeated.
Result:
- The story will get some nessassary branching beyond level 50 where it currently becomes very linear with choices efecting only individual missions.
- Will add lots of replayability, since players might want to experience the possibility of defeating a deferent dragon before Zaitan.
- Existing players won’t have to make alts to get to the new story with the next dragon.
Here is my feedback. (I’ll try to put the lag & bugs on a seperate caterogy)
1. The one time events:
As everyone says, most of them lacked rewards. The rewards for the final one that lasted almost 3 hours where nice, but the rest where big fat Kittens.
The final event seemed unbalanced and lasted far longer than it was supposed to. I came to that conclusion from the phases of the ancient Karka battle where thenever it instructed us to fight the reinforcements it was taking far more time that the rest of the phases combined. Also I it seemed like another Karka like the hundreds we took down that day alone with the only deference that it wont die!
If you take those problems aside, the final battle would have been epic.
2. The Karka.
I never thought that I would ask for the Risen back. They are extreamly annoying to fight. They have tons of life, they lay minions, they can roll-murder entire parties, they reflect damage, they use evade every 3rd second and if these weren’t enough, they have a second lifebar waiting after you chip the first.
There is a very basic rulle in videogames. When you see a Giant Enemy Crab, you attack his weakpoint for massive damage, you don’t chip away it’s health little by little! These Krabs had no weakspot thus they where very anoying to fight.
The small ones can be even more dangerus, since they have an overpower skill that can drain 2/3 of your herth if you are not able to dodge, and the veterans are the worst thing for a large groupe! I spend 15 silver in repairs in the last event alone.
Unless A-net change them in a future patch, I don’t want to see Karka again ever in my life!
3. The Southsun Cove.
It’ll definitly become a ghost area if left as it is… It’s full of the dreaddfull Karka, the map is small, it has no vistas, no hearts, no map complition rewards, few events, lots of mobs, and scarse waypoints. You have no reason to get there since there is no rare Karma vendor waiting at the end of the events like Orr.
I was expecting that we would be able to get there from Sparkfly fen or at least the Grove, but here comes the bad habit of plasing everything new or importand to LA as if it weren’t overpopulated enough already!
Other than that, the area is also hard to navigate, with huge clifs in 70% of it’s shores and lots of enemies (especially Karka) being scatered to make sure that you wont be able to go from point A to B unmolested. It’s looks is also as uninviting as a comet’s surface, so with the absence of content, I have little reason to go there again.
4. Fractals.
I really apreciate that A-net finaly took our feedback and made smaller dungeons, but I was expecting them to fix the existing ones rather than impimenting it only to new ones. Despite that I believe that they are a nice addition to GW2, as long as they move their entrance away from LA. For the mother of Love, why are they so obsessed with that City.
5. Temple of the Silent Storm.
Once again, any new PVP map is very apreciated, since the structured PVP is the part of the game that you spend the most time on the same areas and can get the most repetative.
I’m expecting something for WvW next time, like for example, to make the server borderlands not being identical to each other.
6. Bugs and lag:
Unlike the halloween event, this patch had lots! Big battles in my weak rig become a slideshow even on the lowest settings, so I can’t get I fully enjoy these big events.
For the love of God, please don’t call any more people on LA! The only reason the phase 3 halloween event survived without crashing everyones computer was because it olny expected them to stand there, and even that didn’t spare my rig from droping my fps to the botom. If they actually expect us to do combat in such quantities, it won’t be just the weak rigs that would lag.
As it was also proven by the scavanger hunt where 3 out of 5 essential NPCs where bugged, A-net wasn’t ready for this patch.
End result:
The event was very ambitius and the final battle could have been epic if it wasn’t for the new Karka enemy being so annoying to fight. I don’t want to see a Karka ever again in my life, and I’ll stop eating see food. While the new area is advertised as one that came to stay, they is currently nothing there that would make me want to go there again.
The PVP and new dungeon additions where nice, most like they had nothing to do with the Karka or the lost shores.
Lag and bug broke the experience for many and the phase 1 event was a total failure.
At least with the 3rd one we ended up with some nice loot.
The opening event where you take control of the Island was cool. But after that there isn’t much to do there.
- There are no hearts.
- No Vistas.
- Fewer events.
- Fewer loot.
- The area is small (and that’s surprising since I has expecting it to use the blocked path of Sparkfly Fen)
- The Waypoints are few and fahr between.
- There are no map complition rewards (or map complition tracking at all for that mater)
Lets hope that stuff will be added with phase 3…
The funny thing is that they’ve spend so much time polishing the rest of the cities, making them the most beautiful you can ever find in an MMO, and then they made them insignificant by adding the mystic forge, 3 jumping puzzles, portals to everywhere, all 1-time events and recently the ultimate end-game dungeon, all to LA!
Why did they even bothered with the other Cities?!
I pitty the poor NPC standing in Divinity’s Reach minigames!
As I mention in other posts, LA is already suffering of an overpopulation problem and that’s no surprise, as it’s on the centre of the map, has far more content than the other cities and no LFG system or linked chat have been implemented yet. In the mean time, the rest of the cities are ghost towns…
If A-net continue to focus their one times events on that small space, I won’t be able to land a single shot from the infinite amount of lag. I was in the midle of the event with my guns spamming all my skills and they refuse to obey untill at least half a minute later where whatever I was supposed to shot is was dead. At least I didn’t get DC in this second event, but that doesn’t change the fact that I wasn’t able to land a single shot in both of them, let alone getting any reward…
I have a build for grenades and that means I play mostly with a greanade kit equiped. I use a Razor Naga mouse, so normally I’m just pointing my mouse to the ground and double clicking my grenade skills until my target is dead.
However when an enemy is targeted, and the interface is on the uper part of the screen, then I automatically loose that part of the screen, since if my mouse is pointing at the enemy’s interface, at first it won’t work, and then he’ll throw the grenades on his feet!
In the snaped picture bellow my mouse is not visible, but it’s actually pointing at the enemy’s interface, yet the grenade target area is on my feet.
A-net forums Censors every word it things as nauty with Kittens. I suppose you meant the W-word…
Glad you people see why I hate LA!
My rig is weak and I get lots of lag in Dragon events and WvW. So naturally my least favorite City is Lions Arch where everything takes a whole minute to appear.
Yet I can’t understand why Arenanet is focusing so much on LA, turning every other City into a ghost town! LA already has the mystic forge, the best location at the centre of the map, portal to all other cities, 3 jumping puzzles, the entrance and rewards to PVP, the rewards for the dungeons and aparently now the major payed exclusivity for all 1 time events.
It’s only nattural that all those people whouln’t even think of hanging out on any other City.
Just one city can’t hande all those people, and even if they can, there will be always performance problems. A-net should link the chats, add portal, Mystic forges on the rest of the Cities and add a LFG future.
Also, next time try to share the event in all 5 cities (except LA that it’s a crossroad)
The first minute that I managed to land a few shots I also got some zeros.
After a min, the lag became so horible that every skill I was pressing was landing after one and a half minute so I didn’t manage to shoot anything after that…
I crashed only 4 times.
In the end i didn’t get a thing from this event…
At first I managed to land a few shots and get 2 contributions, but I got kicked out of the game 4 times and each time I logged back, I was in a deferent overflow, so the contribution got back to 0…
Now that I think about it, I don’t want a do over! Since the event was nothing special but a small video and a kill event!
I got it in a form of loud explosion…
Thier ability to stop time, dellay all my skill and chat for more than a minute, stay invisible allong with all the players, make you spontaniusly die and eventually kick you out of the game are very overpowered!
I got kicked about 4 times before I gave up!
Super laggy! Massive disapointment!
I got 4 Disconects and my actions really happening one minute later, Including attacks, revives and some times even chat!
I eventually gave up and came here to rant about it!
Why would they do such a complicated thing?
whatching the suggestion I thought that you were suggesting characters speaking in their Race language so other races wont understand like WoW does…
When I’ve heard that there would be a whole district in each city exclusivelly for your character I was very impressed. The result was more than disapointing, so lets find some use for this useless piece of area!
Step one!
Put a house for the character in his area. Allow the purchuse of other houses in other cities for a large amount of gold/gems so you’ll always have to buy something!
Step two!
Make that house customisable with furnitures by the player. The furnitures should be accessible:
- From the gem store.
- From completing certain achivements like jumping puzzles and mini dungeons.
- From from carma vendors on renown hearts.
Step three!
Give trophies that can be visible in your howse for every dungeon/importand event you complete (maxing a crafting dis, beating the personal story ect…)
Step four!
Allow expantion of the set house via the gem store. Allow the change of the style of the house via an expensive vendor.
Step five!
Allow teleporting directly in the instanced area. You don’t have to wait 2 loading screens!
Step six!
Impliment “siting on chairs” animation! Typing /sit near a free chair should make you sit on the chair instead of the floor.
Step seven!
While picture frames with existing pictures or tapestries should be available In game, players buying a frame from the gem store should allow them to put their own pictures there, or even stream their own videos and/or music if possible.
Step eight!
Allow a player to invite another to his house. Upon being invited you should be treated with a messege saying that A-net is not responsible for some possible inapropriate content you might find to his house.
Step nine!
The house shouldn’t be in a seperate loading screen from the already sepperated instanced area.
Step ten!
Among the content you can buy for your house from the gem store, put an expensive NPC maid that pretend she is cleaning. Some people will totally pay for that!
This might be because I was for 6 years a WoW player and in that game they where top class in the music department.
While I don’t dislike JS music, I can’t help but feel he isn’t at his best in this game.
Aside from trailers and some rare scenes you won’t hear something memorable, and the music while traveling the wolrd and changing locations in the whole game feels pretty much the same. In WoW each area had some unique themes that fited the invaroment and created some unique and very serious atmospheres despite the cartoony graphics. In GW2 on the other hand I can’t feel any moment being serious, part of it beign the bad writing and geneally bad story delivery (but that’s another topic), and the other part is because most of the time the soundtrack doesn’t help… at all! I could gather all the music I’ve heard while playing the game in a single MP3 and nobody would notice that it’s actually many pieces of music together.
Lets take for example the theme of the Humman, Norn and Charr, as it was heard in the trailer that introdiced them where their themes play back to back one after another. I could swear that I was hearing deferent parts of the same song there!
It’s not like JS music is bad, it’s just that it lacks a certain… variety, and it fails to fit the moment. I doubt he ever though of using a cello or female vocals.
IMO The game would had benefited greatly if they had 2 composers with deferent styles to compose for the areas and situation they are best at. Have “the non-Jeremy Soule one” compose the parts that are sadder or more mystic, and let Jeremy Soule compose battle musics, epic events and Charr area music. It would also make the events in Orr feel more importand (like a real war) if they had a deferent and/or more epic music acompaning them.
What do u think?
I love you man!
This is just what I needed!
What would you add?
I would add http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DMsTK9aHr8 to the Orr areas. I’m actually quite disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be a seperate soundtrack for Orr. In fact, I don’t think Orr has a soundtrack at all ATM.
I know how you feel…
I was very disapointed as well.
I like JS but aparently he hasn’t brought his A-game for GW2. He made few songs, even fewer memorable ones, and they rarelly fit the context of the area. I was expecting for example when fighting in event’s in a jungle to hear something deferent than the generic battle music.
I would put this in Arah and the battle with Zhaitan.
The game has many MANY female heroes, with most Human players choosing females and more than half the cast of Destiny’s Edge and story characters being female. This is a war fighted mostly by Women, so it fits much more for the soundtrack to have femake vocals.
IMO, GW2 would had benefited much more if Epica where to make the soundtrack.
- First: They DO make soundtracks, as they have already worked for some movies.
- Second: They can be much more memorable.
- Third: They know what to write to make a scene feel epic.
- Forth: If A-net would allow them to make more use of Simone Simons vocals and electric guitar, then they would end up with a soundtrack much more diferent that the generic fantasy RPG that most MMOs have. As long as they make Mark Jansen shut up and dont ruint their songs.
@Unrepentant
That was just the first part to the story, Destiny’s Edge are being set up to be the main characters. Dungeon Story Mode and Personal Story Mode will just get more and more closely linked.
Both are well thought, but poorly writen and poorly delivered anyway…
I wonder if A-net would ever fix the poorly delivered story in a future patch or expansion. And if they do, I wonder if they ever bother to fix the old content.
It doesn’t make sence how in the whole game, desperetly in need of moving platforms to become a little more epic and fun, Arah is the the only place where a flat horisontal platform is moving. Also it doesnt make sense how you go straight down when jumping from a ship, when normally you should travel a bit to the direction the ship was going since it had a certain speed already.
I’ll have to work my kitten (and empty my program) to find groups and finish those bloody story modes to see for my self!
The only enjoiable storymode till now was CoF and SE (with the exception of Kudu, and of course the obvious problem of everything taking eons to fall).
but the current engine doesn’t support moving platforms… Oh well!
I am going to assume you haven’t finished the Personal Story/Arah Story Mode.
I have a hard time finishing the normal ones, but If it’s anything like the Mad kings clock towner, with mysterious loadings and/or cutscenes poping when boarding the ships, know then that that was an Illusion by an A-net’s mesmer. It’s a common trick used in video games where the world is moving instead of the vehicle. In the Arah instance, do you ever see a player or mob falling behind because the platform you are is moving forward?
I wonder why, since I couldn’t find people for weeks to do HoTW or CoE story.
A-net can’t relly on people who plan doing dungeons to pile up in a big number so they can finally find a groupe with each other, and unlock the explorables that mater. They should add some reasons for players who have already done them to do them again! Like putting a new reward at the end after the first time!…
Also:
HoTW was a pain. Enemies being HP buckets aside, I was expecting something nice and cool since it took place on a ship, but in the end I was feeling as I was on a generic castle. It would have looked a lot better if the ship was actually moving, but the current engine doesn’t support moving platforms… Oh well!
The one and only thing, that crushes this (surely somehow logical) theory is, that if you choose the Sylvari-biography-option “Where life goes, so you should too…”, you’ll meet a Sylvari from a different pale tree, without ANY kind of dream, either a good one like the one because of Ventaris tablet, or a bad one.
But the convinience that he has no memmory means that we can’t tell if he is good or evil, and we never see his tree, but we do see how currius Caithe is to see how the Sylvari unafected by the tablet might have turend out to be, so this also Hints that they Do feel that their purpose might have been diferent if it wasn’t for the tablet.
So the theory remains that the Pale Tree might still be an Elder Dragon Champion.
I originally heard of this rumour from Wooden Potatoes. (old video)
I might be spoiling a future plot twist with that suggestion (so you may stop reading if you want), but there is a rumour that the Pale Tree is actualy an Elder Dragon or an Elder Dragon Champion, the Sylvari are the Minions. and the reason it helps the world of Tyria rather than attacking it, is because of Ventari’s Teachings.
- The tree growed up near a team of centaurs and humans who got fed up with the endless wars and decided to live in piece every day. A Centaur named Ventary wrote a tablet with commandments, that the tree embraced and the sylvari that were born later are consider it their bible.
- The Tree’s nature is very simmilar of that of an Elder Dragon and it’s minnions, as they are born in adult form with a clear mission to follow. At the same time it appears at the same time line as the rest elder Dragons began to Awake. The also they are the only race that cannot get corrupted by the other dragons.
- The Nightmare court, unlike the rest of the counter race antagonists, seem to be evil without motive. They think that the Ventari’s teaching are wrong, and that their way is right, yet the only thing they do is evil deeds and convince more Sylvari (and only Sylvari) to their ranks.
- The theory is enhanced even more with the “Infinite Coil Reactor” building in the Mount Maelstrom (the building with the entrance to CoE). The building is supposed have been builded by the Inquest to harness the Elder Dragon’s Energy, and the various rooms arround it suggest the theme of eact dragon.
- There is a room with corrupted crystals suggesting Kralkatorrik.
- There is a room with corrupted Ice suggesting Jormag.
- There is an under construction room that it’s named blue and it’s empty, yet it clearly has water pipes coming from above, suggesting a future use for the Deep Sea Dragon.
- There is a room with undead theame suggesting Zhaitan.
- There is a room with hot rocks and lava suggesting Primordus
- Finally there is a green room similar to the Sylvari area, suggesting a 6th Nature Dragon we haven’t heard of yet!!!
This looks like a very nice plot twist for the future, but given how poorly A-net handled it’s story till now, perhaps it’s better that we learned it this way.

I think this deserves it’s own topic…
Linked chat is one obvious solution.
The other Cities should also get a mystic forge on their own, and if possible, remove the one in LA since it stands excactly on the centre of the sqare where players meet, and LA has the advantage of location and free travel through mysts anyway! The other Cities should also get portals to multiple locations instead of just LA.
Any other City should have a mystic forge except LA.
Also those who say that “LA should be the ultimate City because of some bs lore reason” know that the realism and lore was abandoned the moment an Asura can run as fast and jump as high as a Charr. Fun and convinience should have priority over stuff like that, and having a crp ton of lag and overflow on a City you mandatory have to visit every hour isn’t fun or convinient.
It’s true that Underwater isn’t as fun as intended. On land I can take 5 enemies, and survive even if I get downed. Underwater I can only take 4 enemies and if I get downed I dont stand a chance.
Since the upcomming major patch looks very water themed, I’m expecting some major fixes in underwater combat allong with it.
Current Problem:
What I realised as I was leveling up is that gear & traits matters and going to lower level areas in your higher level gear, with more traits available makes the deference visible.
A-net seems to have realised that early on, and made the dungeons hard with end-level gear in mind, so even the earlier ones can pose a challenge at end level characters. This presented an obvious problem as a big dificulty spike in the early available dungeos (AC, CM, TA, ect…), where for long AC was considered the toughest of the story dungeons, causing it not to be fun and Players ignoring low level invites when looking for groupe.
Solution:
Have the main NPC character (Ridlock, Caithe, Caudecus’s buttler, ect…) notice when the player is wearing low level gear. Then have him make a comment that how he is not propperly preppared and he should “get some good armour that is left around the entrance area”. Then have near the repair unvill appear an interactable box. If a player interact with it, it’ll replace his gear with green lvl80 gear as an effect.
It will not unequip the existing gear the character is wearring, but it wont add up to the existing stats ether. It’ll simply negate the stats of the existing gear, enforce the stats of the temp gear, and it’ll make the character look like he is wearing something deferently, while appearing as an effect.
Upon exiting the dungeon, the effect is gone and you return to your original gear and it’s stats.
…and stop focusing on Lions Arch?!
A-net made all those great Cities for players to gather, yet they clearly favored one!
LA compared to the other 5 cities:
- Has Portals to every other City.
- Has the primary Mystic forge!
- Has 3 repeatable jumping puzzles.
- Is in the exact centre of the map (all WP cost the same to all directions)
- Is the clossest to Orr (end level area)
- The upcoming major patch will take place there.
- All other celebration events take place there.
- Takes the most time to load all the players and it’s the most common area to fall into an overflow.
There rest of the Cities are currently useless! Aside from a few Story quests the portal to fasttravel to a nearby area with minimum fees, there is no other real reason to go there! I hate ghost towns in MMOs, especially when they have clearly so much work on them and are so much preatier from the main one!
This game is supposed to be all about looks (with the Legendaries being nothing but skins and such) but still wearing hat’s makes you bald.
We need a philosaraptor to rise some question here!
IMO it’s the most useless item in the store, and I stockpile the ones I get for free (dayllys, story rewards, and ocasional mystic chest) in my bank.
There are repairmen even in dungeons and they only charge a few silvers to repair everything. Why should I spend real money to buy those?!
I expected of the legendary weapons to at least be stronger than the exotic ones even by a small amount!
Are you really gona make us waste so much time money and effort for a skin?

+1
Absolutly!
The game currently has very few!
And while you are at it, impliment an AFK future, to let people know that you are AFK…
I suggested something simmilar, but I also like this idea!

I’ve found it somewhat depressing to see so many Dynamic Event areas where the enemy forces are controlling all the possible sites because players aren’t bothing to defend the area. High level players either aren’t there or don’t bother.
Maybe the more active guilds can be contracted to patrol/defend these Dynamic Event areas, replacing the ally NPCs there. The guilds would then be rewarded for successfully taking and holding these Dynamic Event areas, for example the guild would receive exclusive benefits like reduced prices at the gem store or something. Bonus rewards could be given for group events completed during the contract. Maybe the maps could be updated with the names of the guilds guarding each area, changing with the contracts.
Failure to hold the areas would break the contract, allowing another guild to take it. There could also be an expiration to the contracts to allow guilds to rotate through.
This would achieve a few things. First, it would lessen the concentration in farming areas, dispersing the more active players. More players would be around to do Group Events, assisting solo players. It would also make the guilds more prominent in PvE, and allow guild members to contribute even if their schedule doesn’t match the rest of the guild’s.
I know it’s annoying, but I don’t think they should put entire guilds on that role…
I made a suggestion a wile ago on this mater, and I believe the best thing is to put something unique being looted from the lesser used content.
Given the maddness that made people go and spend so much money just to buy tons of keys and get that chainsaw on Halloween, is proof that it’ll work.
Really nice idea. I like it.
I encountered this problem of unpopular events far too often. Sometimes people are even plainly ignore them, just running past or leaving after one downned state.
I’ve also encountered this a lot.
Things are especially tragic in Orr…
That place require you to follow an attack from 3 sides, and 2 of them are from the sea… Nobody bothers to go from there, including me! There are only hard undead mobs so you can’t get your daylly just from there, hard events that despite the higher rewards, aren’t worth the swett.
I’m guessing that when the next Dragon-Area appea Orr will become complettly empty, so a future that encurages you to deal with unpopular content will become nessessary.
Good topic and well thought out, what made you think of “Bountys”
Well…
For once there is a logic to it. Since most of events evolve around killing things, and what I ask is for the NPCs to put extra rewards to whoever takes the initiative to “do” them because they need them “done”, since nobody is “doing” them on his own, the name bounty fitted nicelly.
Also it sounds nicelly to say on the chat “There is a bounty on the [That kitten undead shark] groupe event north!” and then have people gather to do it.
they should bring back Zaishen Bounty’s from GW where you had a bounty for a boss, dungeon, mission, etc…
it made some of the most abandoned places in GW just boom for a day
That would benefit only dungeons and only one per time.
I’m talking about a system that would enhance the lesser used content equally and automatically.
In LA there is:
- The Mystic Forge!
- The Portals to all other cities.
- Three, easilly repeatable jumping puzzles.
- Good location at the center of Tyria to get same distance (and WP fees) to all areas.
- All unique events and celebrations take place here.
- It’s also the clossest place to the end level area Orr.
- The portal for the upcoming “Lost Shore” will also be here…
Also there is no communication with the other cities unless you travel there and wait through the loading screen.Anet is overfocusingo on LA, causing all other areas to become ghost towns!
I tottaly agree that at least such events should occurr in every other city other than LA!...
lion’s arch is the city where all races live together, and like you said, it sits in the center of Tyria. it’s a rich merchant city with access to the sea.
Lion’s Arch is the equivalent of medieval/renaissance Italy. of course it would be the center of the attention.
I can’t help but believe the kinda shoot them selfs in the foot here…
They designed all those amazing cities for people to meet each other and party up, but they made only one of them matter!
I het a weak rig and I get so much lag in LA that each player appears 30 seconds later after I meet him, and it takes about a min for everything to appear when I get to the mystic forge area.
I hate LA!…

Current problem:
Some events get completly ignored by players for ages, weeks or months for varius reasons.
- Ether they are in an invarioment that the player doesn’t feel comfortable in, making them not very fun (ex: underwater).
- Or they are away from event hot spot areas, perhaps in an unpopular map.
- Or they are unnaturally hard compared to the rest of the content of the area.
- Or the most likelly reason, they are “groupe events” an no one would want to make the start, cause he doesn’t trust that 4 other players will come to help.
- Or all the above…(I’m looking at you undead sharks!)
Soluntion:
Have such event’s that have a high tendency to fail many times in a row, or stay unsolved for many hours/days, get a “bounty icon”. Events with a “bounty icon” will reward the player upon solving them with higher percentage of gold & karma (depending on the time the event left unchalenged) but not XP (so players won’t level faster in case it is a low level area) and/or will reward them with a unique chests (via mail), that among other minor goodies has a very rare chance to drop some unique exotics (an exotic cowboy hat named “Bounty_Hunter’s_Hat” for example).
If an event is getting a new bounty very often, it should take longer to recieve the next one with an ellement of randomness in the time, to avoid exploiting the system. Players shouldn’t be limited in the amount of bounties they can get per day.
Result:
- It’ll give an excuse for player to go and even ask for help to complete events away from hot spots, that otherwise wouldn’t get as much attention.
- It will drive players to attempt and poppulate less poppular areas for the better chance of encountering bountied events. If another area becomes less poppulated due to this change, the problem will fix it self automatically.
- If Arena-net, track the bounties and the events that are getting them, they might get a clear indication of the areas needing “Improvement”.
- Players might start going underwater a little more…
- New Players might start choosing the less poppulated servers on purpose!

I think the orriginal intention was to have ships and airships ballance the attacks on alls fronts of Orr, but instead we ended up with lots of swimming, since the current engine doesn’t support moving platforms…
The above and “You definitly want sylvari!”…
