Kitten – Zerker Ranger – http://gw2efficiency.com/c/Kitten
Kitty Smallpaw – Condi Ranger – http://gw2efficiency.com/c/Kitty%20Smallpaw
Try condi, it currently out damages zerker significantly. Here is a good starting point – http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_A/T_Condition
While I love condi, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t start out-dpsing Berserker until about 30 seconds into a fight on a target that hasnt moved out of any bonfires.
Berserker is still better at short fights, adds, moving targets and burn phases (which apparently will be a thing in raids).
I’m guessing it’ll be best to carry both sets and switch depending on the boss when raids come out. That would be cool IMO.
It is actually much faster than that probably closer to 15 second, zerker dps is drastically lower than sinister dps (I run both, full ascended). In fact with bonfire/flame trap being AOE you do more damage against trash.
Anyone here ever run wvw with a good Guardian back when tomes were a thing? Re grouping to blast water fields did not negate the usefulness of your tome. Having the extra healing can be a game changer especially if you are up against a group that punishes you for stacking.
I played support guardian in wvw for a long time, and yes water fields negated anything I could do, as people who got picked off was because of their failure to use active defenses and were spiked killed. Healing won’t help against spike kills.
A NOPE player?? I used to run around with NAGA when everyone was still logging in. You’re right healing won’t stop the spike kills. However if you can keep your party topped off it will take more effort for the opposing players to get the spike kill.
I’m very curious to see if the druid’s healing will work on downed players.
How many engagements do you have where it comes down to attrition? 1 out of 5 matches? While I won’t say your point isn’t valid, I will say that those instances are much rarer, and not necessarily worth wasting a slot in the raid to counteract.
Druid gives Ranger an instant spot in WvW raids.
Not really, its usefulness in WvW might not be that good. WvW is high spike damage, so often healing isn’t fast enough to be worthwhile, and when you need to heal water fields can heal the raid to full.
ele does it without having to give up anything. There are plenty of water fields in this game, meaning that druid wouldn’t be needed.
What does the Ranger give up in order to use Tidal Surge? You’re right, there are plenty of water fields in the game, and it just so happens that Rangers now have a mobile one that also heals for ~5k baseline(we arguably have the best two water fields in the game now).
Have to spec into druid losing dps/usefulness from other traitlines.

Water fields are vastly superior for wvw, as far as raids go. This might not be to case if players are forced apart, making druid healing more viable.

Here is the major things I would like to see addressed, that have been issues for a long time now.
-Quickening Zephyr decrease the CD from 60 sec to 45 sec to be in line with other skills that do similarThe other skills that do similar (Frenzy and Haste) are on 60s cd too.
I agree with most of your points generally though.
@OP Ranger is viable in all forms. Viable =/= Optimal though. As someone mentioned, druid may address some of these but we’ll have to wait and see.
The ones with 60 CD are paired with strong buffs like fury, the ones that are lower are with weaker buffs.
There aren’t really any weaker ones, there are 4 skills which add 6s of quickness. The 2 I mentioned plus the engineer’s elixir U (on a 50s cd).
With regards to “strong buffs”, many thieve’s will argue 6s fury is useless as No Quarter provides perma fury whilst most warriors will have 25 stacks might without frenzy so again isn’t necessary.
What I wanted to clarify is Quickening Zephyr is not an outlier in terms of it’s cd as it gets 6s of super speed. Whether or not you think super speed is useful is a different matter.
fair enough
When will dungeons/fractals what ever you want to call them get new content? It has been 2 years now, is there plans to support this play style in the future with content?

I don’t have an issue with being a healer, in fact I would love to be a healer. Its just this game does not really support healing. Active Defense is just much better than passive defenses like healing.
Here is the major things I would like to see addressed, that have been issues for a long time now.
Pets:
-Increase the hit rate of pets, this means improving AI, right now it is easy to dodge 70% of pet attacks.
-Increase the survival of pets, either by limiting damage done by cleaves and aoe to it or increase health pool and toughness.
-Increase pet responsiveness, give us more control. Not sure how many times a pet wasted a skill or took so long to get a F2 skill off.
-Allow us to properly stow pets, don’t auto pull the pet out after we stowed them. In some fights having a pet is a negative thing, such as in Jade Maw.
Spirits:
-Increase spirit survival, as of right now in most encounters they die way to fast.
-Allow us to have mobile spirits again!
Utility Skills:
-Change up shouts and make them unique. “Protect Me!” Is really redundant with Signet of Stone.
“Sic ’Em!” is probably the best shout and it is very niche useful only against thief and PU Mesmers. “Guard!” and “Search and Rescue!” are very subpar skills.
-Sharpening Stone is on a 45 second CD, only applies 5 stacks of bleeding over 5 attacks. Compare that to say Spike Trap that does 6 stacks, is unblockable, damages and had a KD and you see how bad this skill is.
-Muddy Terrain increase the animation speed so this is faster
-Quickening Zephyr decrease the CD from 60 sec to 45 sec to be in line with other skills that do similar
-Signets for the most part are pretty good, though the CD or active can do for minor improvementes.
-Traps seem fine for now
Elite Skills:
-Spirit of Nature is just really bad, its healing is really not noticeable, and the revive is very slow, and its a spirit so it suffers.
-Entangle the animation on this is so slow that it is very easy to dodge, this is probably one of the easiest elites to negate in the game due to that.
Weapons:
-Longbow animations are very easy to predict making most of the skills easily mitigated compared to other skills
-Longbow has a 2000 range when it should be 1725 with the 15% buffer zone on projectiles
-Sword is very unresponsive with attacks
-Shortbow make the auto attack always apply bleeding
-Increase Greatsword’s damage, as of right now it is a weapon take for its defensive capabilities
Traits:
-Stead Focus is very niche, we should gain vigor when endurance isn’t full with ICD
-Predator’s Instinct lower the ICD from 30 to 15
-Vigorous Training feels under whelming for a T2 trait, maybe swiftness or another buff alongside to bring it in line with other traits of the same level
-Invigorating Bond why does this have an ICD? F2s already have a cool down it is also a grandmaster trait
-Nature’s Vengeance the increase health doesn’t help spirits much
-Natural Healing doesn’t do much for pets in almost any instance of the game, seems a pretty bad trait, even more so at the slot you have to take it
-Major Master with the slot and how many disables there are in the game why is this on a 60 ICD?

Now that Druid has been revealed and Astral form introduced, wisps have also been introduced with a few skills. Why not change Spirits to Wisps. Make them immune to all damage like Warriors Banners. Also, revert them back to movable of course. A Ranger in Astral form, could make use of Sun Spirit for example. Burn enemy’s while you heal.
You can even go as far as treating Spirits like Glyphs. When in Astral form, your Spirit is swapped to a Wisp with new abilities etc.
While I like the idea, it will bring much needed synergy between ranger and druid, I think spirits in general could use a total over all. They die really fast, in fact on at least 70% of boss encounters they will die within the first 5 to 10 seconds of being placed.
Wyvern pet!!!!
That is all.
Wyvern pet is pretty amazing. Wonder if they will have a splishy splash one too!

How much longer much rangers wait until you and your team addresses issues that have been hurting rangers since launch? I have tried to keep faith that you will fix the class, but at this point and seeing the druid reveal, the only honest conclusion I come to is that you guys just fundamentally don’t understand ranger.
What proactive steps in the near future are you going to do to fix the class? The “balance” changes you said don’t really do anything worthwhile for the class. Soon or in the near future is a tired up excuse your team has been giving to us. It would be nice to have a long list of what changes you want to do and when you think it will get done.
Instead of Judge, that they don’t understand anything, or by Saying: How do you plane to Fix the class?
You can be do something by yourself! Just w8 for Tuesday, and Try to play different builds in ranked.
Take celestial adulet, with Shortbow and with new WHaO + condition pet. Play 10-20 games and make conclusion. With Pros and Cons.Take LB/GS ranger and test it same way. Then Make Pros/Cons.
Take Trapper ranger and test it same way. Then Make Pros/Cons.
Take BM Bunker and Test it same way. Then Make Pros/Cons.That way you can be useful and do something important for ranges.
Other way, your opinion will cost 0 points form 100.
I have listed nothing that hasn’t been a ranger issue since launch, that hasn’t been talked about at length in this forum. Fact is, many rangers have been waiting a LONG time for fixes that have been promised but never done. Its been 3 years for some of us and we are getting tired of waiting and hoping. If after 3 years they can’t fix the class which is more than enough time then there is something fundamentally wrong what they are doing.
About the same as before, pets weren’t addressed, rangers still don’t fill a role in any core aspect of the game. Druids will be limited raids only and sporadic wvw uses.
If you don’t see the potential the druid has for ranger pvp builds, then I can’t help you.
Most of the druid abilities aren’t self healing so it won’t be as good as a point bunker, instead it would need to stay with the main spvp group assuming your pug group is sticking together in a good split. There is also enough poison to limit the healing and huge spike damage can knock the druid out, or make them kite taking them out of the fight either way. It might see more use in pre-made spvp groups but then again, its still limited.
Fractals are dungeons and there are no new fractals in HoT, just changes to how fractals will be done, and moving the difficulty cap up to level 100. It wouldn’t be wrong of you to think that ArenaNet is abandoning dungeons/fractals for the most part, it has been nearly 2 years since there has been any new content in the dungeon department.
Hey all.
I just returned from San Francisco and am going to crash hard from the busy weekend at Twitch Con very soon, but first I wanted to clarify something:
During the skill balance stream on Friday we weren’t able to go into depth or even talk about the reasons and expected results for changes we did reach due to time constraints[sub]1[/sub]. Because the June 23rd patch was mentioned during the stream many people seem to expect a patch of that size and magnitude.
This coming patch is NOT that big.
Tuesday’s patch will have those changes we discussed in the livestream, some bugfixes, and more, but it is a step in the right direction. It is not the end-all.
There shall be more.

I really dislike Cliffside because it is the easiest fractal to mess up and cause headaches. If I had to determine most difficult it is betwee Mai Trin (if we are counting boss fractals) or Dredge.
The fundamental problem is Druid is like an entirely different profession, not a development of Ranger, and not appealing to those drawn to the Ranger play style.
There will be a big market for powerful support characters if HoT content comes through, so Druid will be played, but not by Rangers.
Rangers would have been a lot happier if you scrapped the pet code, and redesigned pets from the ground up to really be dynamic and almost an extension of the ranger in a second body, as it should have been from the beginning (else why is the ranger specialty a pet, when almost every profession is crawling with ‘pets’). That would have been a much more satisfying use of development time.
One of the issues you have to start to believe is that the Devs do not fundamentally know how to handle the ranger. If you’ve been around since launch as a ranger like I have, you’d see how much they have struggled. We still have pets that are very lackluster in almost all situations they either die to fast, easily dodgable or not responsive enough. Half of our skills are either worthless, or we already have another skill that is just much better, looking at you “Protect Me!” or the abilities are easily mitigated such as spirits dying easily. I do not expect anything different with druid, it would not surprise me if they see little to no use in HoT.
Honestly, while I would say the idea of what the druid does is really neat, it doesn’t fit the game and nothing they’ve shown has convinced me that it will have a place. Irenio so far really has shown he doesn’t understand Ranger that well. I hope druid has a place in HoT but from what everything i’ve seen its just another wasted thing ranger has.
Would like to see this build against decent players and builds, I stopped half way through because everyone you fought was using bad builds/not roaming builds that I couldn’t destroy on my zerker ranger.
Personally I believe the nerf was needed, with that said this badly, it looks at least on the surface, to me to make the skill not viable. 50% damage nerf on top of only hitting 3 targets max instead of 5 means it will not have reduced dps potential of 40% from that alone. So that is something like 30% of the damage potential it used to have.
I feel as if the druid is very niche, it will see use in raids and maybe potentially limited use in WvW. WvW tends to be spike damage where healing isn’t always a good option, though in some cases it is, but water fields tend to do the jump good enough. Honestly, while I love the thought of being a healbot this really worries me. Ranger has not had a part of the game they actually shine, they’ve always been at best second best, but most of the time one of the worse options to pick from and they gave us a niche specialization. I worry that who ever designs this class doesn’t know what to do with Ranger. This is even more apparent to me after 3 years of pets still being very broken amongst other skills.
Mostly a question for devs: It has been 2 years since a new dungeon has been added to this game, and it appears no new dungeons will be added for HoT (not including the raid) just changes to fractals, am I right in assuming that ArenaNet no longer intends to support dungeon style play?
sadly, as I already said, none of that works. Anet messed something up badly and needs to fix it :/
I am not able to use guild chat, I have tried the invisible to online trick, left guild and rejoined, etc. I cannot talk in chat no matter what I do. Any other tricks to make it work?
And there are still queue’s
Meaning people are actually trying to play with this after a week of lag/rubberbanding… I’m so confused with this community, they complain alot on TS/Ingame, but yet keep playing… I’m sure if they’d spam forum like crazy they’d notice it.
It’s not ddos, it’s not us… It got alot worse after the last patch. They clearly just don’t give a kitten about WvW… I don’t see PvE maps lag, vinewrath has alot of people running around, no lag? Ddos would lag that too.
No queues on TC
Weapon skins, no not the ones hidden behind the rng that is the keys, but weapon skins I can buy directly.
My biggest issue with how rng is handled in this game is just how much fun you potentially may have is based on it. You want a precursor? You can spend thousands of hours farming for the gold to buy one, or get lucky and get one and be happy. You want that x skin, farm for between 1 to infinite amount to get it. RNG is fine for the low end, but ultimately there should be a visible goal. I don’t care about legendary, its either farm way to much which is boring or get lucky. To me legendaries lose all meaning because of this, so does most every skin.
The other thing that rng is not only putting a rng gate on things, but also putting a pay wall infront of that. Weapon skins from Lion’s heart chest are a clear cash grab. I know myself and many others would go for these skins if it wasn’t also behind a rng wall.
Everything in this game revolves around rng, and honestly at times, can be very frustrating and sickening.
Match Making still needs a ton of work, fact that I am on teams with class imbalances (was just on a 3 thief team other had no) shows that its still no were near good or close to good. I can’t say PvP has been anything but rancid since the update.
Shouldn’t be faster, if you’re a premade, and potentially a good one, it should take longer. You have solo queues now in the same pool you should have very long queues imo, as weighting it that you only fight other good premades.
Probably done with spvp myself, its pretty boring to be matched with mismatched teams so much.
(edited by Kitty.1502)
Ranger is in a position in wvw were they can’t use their strengths. As a support their spirits die to fast, they can’t really be a tanky class because positioning is also important and some of their skills require a constant target. They don’t do good enough AOE, in order to be effective dps they go full glass and a lot of people can’t survive as that. I enjoy it though, I run full glass and survive 95% of the zerg fights I get into.
Ragers for GvG and GvG ragers. All of you have to much ego. Relax over something that doesn’t matter either way :P
the opening is one of the most important aspects of the game as it sets the tempo of the game. The time it takes to get a 5th in could mean the team is already up 200 points
Is there a plan to put in game a match making system? This is one of the worst “competitive” pvp scene I have seen, tired of getting put into games with people who don’t know what they’re doing. It has been 2 years… why isn’t this in the game?
Think you need to understand your points do not matter one bit to how well you have helped your team. What matters is the score at the end of the game. Holding points gets you a guaranteed amount of points. While killing people is sporadic, the game is about conquering points and holding on to them to gain more points faster then the other team. Many players forget the goal of the game, they think its about going around kitten ing in kitten iland.
Sorry but in my experience with the GW2 community every time any aspect of pvp that melds with pve you will get a toxic pve crowd that ruins other peoples fun for their own game. Case in point look what happened with the Dolyaks and the PvE crowd. 20 to 30 lead a dolyak around, didn’t wvw and ruined the matches for a lot of people. I try and they flat out refuse to listen. So why wouldn’t their kitten iness annoy me? Why do they deserve my respect, when they won’t give it to me in the first place? can handle a player still learning their class, but those that don’t listen (you know who you are) Are the real cause of the toxicity and ruining others enjoyment of the game.
I am tired of people using my name as an insult, Kitten isn’t an insulting name and I deserve respect!
Two very boring matches back to back, hope next week is better.
Rather confused, last week was boring because it was too easy correct me if i’m wrong.
Now this week is boring because it’s too hard apparently you’re either going to win t2 or face t1 servers and this happens, the difference is too much between t1 and t2.
stomping or being stomped is dreadfully boring. There was a middle ground, now there isn’t.
TC last week was boring and this week is looking to be boring too. I probably wont’ wvw at all because of how boring it is, until competitive matches come back again.
Two very boring matches back to back, hope next week is better.
oh shut up and stop complaining you big whining baby.
