I think it is “bugged” to not trigger when Boss Blitz occurs, which is going very often. So you’d have to find an instance with slow triggering.

I did see all of at least one interaction screened elsewhwere (a Ministry Guard tries to take o-Torn away for singing fir Scarlet, but Rox and Braham defends him), but I know there is more than the one conversation with Rox and Braham. Again, seems to only happen when Boss Blitz isn’t active.

I don’t see it being Kasmeer. She’s been with Marjory the whole time and, more importantly, in Labyrinthine Cliffs for most of that time. If it were Kasmeer it’d be before the instance and would likely have been hinted at by one of those two, or a mention of multiples rather than the one.

We actually don’t know how soon Jennah would have been able to produce the illusion – which is part of that argument. Because she’s in the background the whole time, not showing preparation or exhaustion once Logan shows up, people think “she could have done that at any time” and simply waited for the last possible minute to become a dues ex machina.

On your second point – the oracle and seer known as Glint does say that they will succeed if and only if they stand together. They didn’t, they didn’t succeed. Of course, Glint could have been wrong.

@OP: It’s 2 healing skills (you forgot Antitoxin Spray), and you forgot the 5 new traits too.

Keep in mind that the Ascended gear was released slowly over time. With hastened rates. And we got new stat combinations as well (Apothecary’s, Sentinel’s, Settler’s, Celestial’s, Zealot’s, etc.). So while when you look at things in generals such as “Ascended gear” then it’ll look smaller than the progression has actually done, making it look like a single update rather than the 5 updates Ascended gear alone was.

Also, it’s been 1.5 years, not 2 years. Yes, it matters.

People only thought it was tengu based because of the name “Four Winds” and the tengu houses being named after what the tengu call the four winds (North, South, East, West).

When you look at the actual bazaar itself, you see very little that ties into tengu. It was literally one very minor thing (a name) that brought people to the connection. But that’s like saying there’s a connection between the Peacemakers hired by the White Mantle during War in Kryta, and the Peacekeepers of the asura.

For those interested:

Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3
Blitz

Things of note (to me – including pre-mentioned stuff)

  • Doobroosh comes from the evacuated Dredgehaunt Cliffs quaggan village from PS.
  • Suriel comes from Curshed Shore (Winterknell Shores specifically) and has a “Book of Light” – is fanatical and worships light. (Clearly a risen, “the light fades…” :P)
  • Masticus has “live long enough to know how to use his environment” showing that wags can get really smart (also, wargs are considered a type of dog – no surprise). And comes from Mount Maelstrom – I don’t recall many (or any) wargs there.
  • Subject 7 confirmed from Thaumanova Reactor itself. Interesting since Subject 6 was made just before explosion – so Subject 7 is a post-explosion experiment?
  • Deadeye Dunwell comes from a place in Harathi Hinterlands now under frequent centaur control.
  • Liadri is from a now krait-infested location with little to no hint of human ties. Disguised krait witch, perhaps? :P

Boss Blitz folks are hard to see (thanks to the resolution level…) but the real bosses (since those we fight are mere Watchknights) are:

  • Sparcus is from the largest Flame Legion Castrum (Provatum Castrum), in Fireheart Rise. Implies Godforged status to me, as they use that Castrum. Perhaps even a Tribune of the Flame Legion, given his special placement.
  • Baines is from Earthlord’s Gap – in Kessex Hills. Likely the head of the bandits in that corner, given her special placement in the pavilion.
  • Shurakk is from Otyugh’s Kraal, in Fields of Ruin.
  • Pyroxis is from Mount Maelstrom’s eastern end, with “none” for personality – which points to the dragon minions’ mindlessness (especially Destroyers). Makes me wonder if it is tied to the creation of the volcano.
  • Wiggin the Wicked is from Laughing Gull Island, meaning he was either a subordenant of Taidha Covington, or took over after her death.
  • Kuraii is from War King’s Greatcamp, implying he’s a high ranking tactician/general of Ulgoth (or post-Ulgoth in the war).

Sans Pyroxis, the personalities don’t tell much unlike with some of the gauntlet bosses.

Shame that the real version of these bosses aren’t put into the open world. That’d be rather neat, especially since so many are near world boss meta events.

Subject 7 now has some amount of backstory – through Subject 6 in the Thaumanova Reactor Fractal.

And there was the picture for the Tier 1 foes released the other day, which does give their origin (“Hails from:”). And regarding that, this was brought to my attention by Thalador the other day, but Suriel comes from… Orr. And uses a “Book of Light” – which is interesting since Orr is Hebrew for “Light”. But it’s interesting, that she comes from Winterknell Shore. She’s also said to be “fanatical” and “worships light”.

Doobroosh seems to come from the village you evacuate in the PS if you have quaggan racial sympathy.

Is this the future of loot in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

It’s only champions that don’t give loot, and only in easily scaled up events like the Scarlet invasions and Claw of Jormag – as you said Palador, to counter farming.

But standard mobs drop loot still. And they boosted the end reward a bit in those cases (even in Pavilion though not enough to many’s opinions) to counter such. So that people are more interested in completing the content rather than intentionally letting things fail just to farm loot. That’s not “Risk vs Reward” but “Reward for not completing stuff.”

Each and every loot removal change made has been with the intent to push players to complete the content rather than letting it fail to get more rewards. “Greater Reward for Completing” rather than “Greater Reward for Failing”, that is to say.

Battle for Lion’s Arch gave loot.

Escape from Lion’s Arch gave loot.

Edge of the Mist gave loot.

The Origins of Madness gave loot.

So what exactly is this “more and more mobs that give zero loot”? Ah yes, Crown Pavilion and Mad King’s Labyrinth! FESTIVAL-ONLY LOCATIONS GIVE NO LOOT. And why is that? Because they cater to zergs. Like I said, the no loot is only to prevent massive fluctuations in the game economy.

I wonder why.

While 95%+ new mobs give loot.

I agree that most world bosses need something, but just giving them the Pavilion bosses’ attacks won’t be enough, IMO. Each world boss has its own issues (Megadestroyer should be immune to immobilize for example), and can be improved in ways unique to themselves.

Fights like at the end of Molten Facility (remember those two guys?) was AWESOME. Until one figures out how to speedkill it, the same goes for the Giganticus Lupicus. It would be neat if each boss had its own design on par to these.

It is conceivable that wurms create husks in their stomachs, then regurgitate them (the Great Jungle Wurm of the Bloodtide Coast regurgitates husks).

I’m going to disagree with this. Joy’s End is a base of the Nightmare Court in which they are “taming” jungle wurms, yet there are no husks. Similarly, there are husks where no wurms are. The Bloodtide Coast’s Evolved Great Jungle Wurm does spit out some half-digested husks, but as the name implies they were likely eaten by the wurm – much like the Wychmire Swamp Great Jungle Wurm does.

-snip “from the Nightmare Court”-

The presence of husks in the wurm’s stomach suggests that it may have fed on them before even the Pale Tree was planted, casting doubt on the theory that husks are as young as sylvari born of the Pale Tree.

I’d argue that this pushes for them being minions of Mordremoth, personally.

There are some problems with this theory, especially when we consider that there are other swamps in the Maguuma (such as the Toxal Bog and large portions of Sparkfly Fen) similar in some ways to Wychmire. Why don’t we see husks there too? One could argue that the reason only Wychmire plays host to husks is because a ley-line running to Mordremoth passes through it; he can only create his minions along ley-lines. But even this suffers when we note that Godslost is another swamp located on a ley-line at which we see no such activity. At this point, this theory may have to resort to special pleading, maintaining that Godslost and Wychmire are two different types of swamp.

I’d like to note that while mechanically, Sparkfly and Mount Maelstrom are part of the Maguuma, they are not so in lore standing. They’re just counted as Maguuma for sake of achievements (otherwise Maguuma would be the smallest non-Orr region).

Again, the correlations here to the ley lines are not conclusive nor confirmed.

And it should be noted that we do see husks in Sparkfly – but only when the Nightmare Court’s involved. Even the presence in Wychmire Swamp can be related to the Nightmare Court’s involvement, due to proximity to Twilight Arbor – but as Gamarien says, they’re not caused by the Court there, but by something else. Still that doesn’t prevent the heavy presence of Twilight Arbor/Joy’s End (which are adjacent) being the cause of the presence growing there.

Swamp Things: Into The Mud

in Lore

The Greatheart Weald is one of only two current, accessible locations in Tyria in which these unusual visual effects can be observed.

I’ll note that the “unusual discharge” from the ground you make note of are used around certain Risen events/personal stories. So the effect isn’t only in the two locations. It’s only in those two locations that both the “discharge” from the ground and the rotting oakheart model are used.

At least two of these sites are situated on ley-lines passing through the Thaumanova Reactor Facility. We know that the Greatheart Weald rests on a ley-line because the rotting oakheart of Thaumanova exhibits the same symptoms as the rotting oakheart of the Heartwoods, indicating that the oakheart at Thaumanova has been displaced from the Greatheart Weald.

This is purely speculative and non-conclusive. There’s nothing to indicate that the teleportation caused teleports beings from points along the ley lines.

Moreover, Wychmire Swamp is also located on a ley-line. We learned this from the final cutscene of the Living Story Season 1. In that cut-scene a ley-line was revealed, running from Lion’s Arch through Kryta and Metrica Province in the general direction of Magus Falls. This line’s vector indicates that it did not run through regions of Kryta north of Lion’s Arch – specifically, Gendarran Fields, the Harathi Hinterlands or Queensdale. It ran in a south-westerly direction, passing through Wychmire Swamp. (This may not be the only evidence that a ley-line runs through the swamp. The Chaos Crystal Caverns of the Iron Marches are the displacement point of all manner of enemies, including Nightmare Courtiers.)

I don’t think we have anything like conclusive proof that the ley line from Lion’s Arch to Thaumanova passes through the swamp. It can easily pass around it – they don’t go in straight lines. Likely, but far from conclusive.

A second similarity between the Greatheart Weald and Wychmire is that both are either swamps or are located sufficiently close enough to swamps to be considered part of them. The Heartwoods are nestled to the immediate west of Godslost Swamp. This proximity is emphasized by the pre-event of the Secrets In The Swamp meta-event chain, in which portals normally restricted to the (presumed) confines of the marsh advance into the Heartwoods and must be cleared..

I wouldn’t really say that the Heartwoods is close enough to be considered part of the Godslost Swamp. Keep in mind that lore-wise, the distances are greater than what we see. And the Secrets in the Swamp actually works against you as the state of the meta when the portals show up in the Heartwoods is “portals have been sighted outside the swamp.”

The final commonality is the local fauna.

Which makes the Heartwoods the odd-man-out, as the other two hold Mosshearts, not Oakhearts.

Having proposed that the discharges emanating from the ground at both the Greatheart Weald and Wychmire Swamp correlate to the decay of matter, we can now turn our attention to the Ogham Wilds. Here, the decay is not as obvious. We certainly observe green discharges, but we see little else to aid us in determining the meaning of them. There is, however, one tantalizing clue: In the corner of Arias’s garden, a root is entangled in what is described as “choking vines”. This is a solid lead in favor of the idea that subterranean plant-matter is decaying at this site.

It should be noted that at Ogham Wilds, the “discharges” only begin after the mosshearts have been twisted by the Nightmare (also the cause of their appearance).

Husks aren’t dumb – they’ll shriek when injured – but they’re not exactly smart either. Guards stationed at the entrance to Twilight Arbor (EXP) describe them as “mindless”. It’s no wonder then that Vevina, the Countess Of Obedience, utilized so many of them. They make perfect slaves, servants and soldiers.

Hmm, them being called mindless is actually good support for them being dragon minions – low level dragon minions are often called mindless, with the only will being that of killing anything not tied to their dragon. Only the not-mindless minions can give them orders to make them function properly – which in turn furthers support of the Nightmare being Mordremoth’s influence.

I think that and this are rather different – the difference is that it is different objects. E.g., a skritt in a cave beneath the land as Kralkatorrik flew over may not have been corrupted, but all the dirt around it would have been. For example, Snaff was in his golem – the golem got corrupted, but not Snaff, who was dangling and not touching the golem that got corrupted).

But you’re changing the topic.

The topic isn’t “how to avoid corruption” it is “whether corrupting is active or passive”. And the book shows this – without (potentially, depending on how it functions) contradicting evidence, unlike avoiding the corruption.

Trader Aerin has returned and has, this time, gotten permission to join them. The rest have returned too but give off a “I’m tempted to, but I don’t think I will” in their dialogue – like last time.

I think I saw a sylvari and norn Zephyrites on the ship. I’ll have to check again to make sure.

It isn’t really slavery because there’s something being paid off – it’s far closer to indentured servitude, but for prisoners (which basically makes it community service).

I suppose it depends on your definition of slavery, but slavery is against someone’s freedom, and prisoners… don’t have that freedom in the first place – lawfully speaking at least.

Slavery – that is, taking free people and enslaving them – is not legal in Tyria. Lion’s Arch has the billet system as a means of making use of prisoners – no free person can be bought. The billets is basically no different from bail, except that it gives responsibility of the prisoner to the buyer of the billet. Standard practice is that the prisoner would pay to the buyer of the billet the cost of the billet – as done with Logan, Rytlock, and Caithe (and other prisoners who’s billets were bought by Magnus to fight in the Zaishen arena at Fort Marriner).

DE and Glint set up traps for minions. -> Kralkatorrik shows up. -> Eir and Glint do surprise attack. -> Kralkatorrik breaths over the area. -> Glint reaches Kralkatorrik and distracts him, meanwhile minions attack DE. -> Kralk kills Glint after she gets yoke on him. -> Kralk don’t care, until Snaff gets into his mind. -> Kralk think they’re too insignificant so continues sending minions. -> Minions keep failing, so he dives in trying to corrupt a couple times, DE evades using cover (never touches them, they don’t get corrupted). -> Snaff takes control of Kralk’s body, Rytlock rushes to where Kralk falls. -> Minions rush past Caithe and kill Snaff before Rytlock makes it. -> Kralk flies away, mission accomplished and not caring for the other four DE members.

It is EXPLICITLY STATED why they’re not corrupted (they avoid being breathed on, the breath is what’s corrupting). The tattoos made by the gray powercrystals ground down was for blocking mental connections, so ineffective against Kralkatorrik.

So, once again, it is explicitly stated and shown that Kralkatorrik chooses not to corrupt, because it was not constant during the question.

Maybe they choose when to corrupt and not because corruption isn’t so simple. Maybe it takes effort or puts strain on them. Maybe it requires a large amount of magic. So it isn’t just “we were just lucky” but means that it is not something that they can do constantly. And it also means there must be a conscious effort behind corruption (which would explain why they don’t corrupt when asleep).

About Zhaitan, I should make a correction to my previous post – Kudu’s research being used was utilized for the weapons against Zhaitan. It should be noted that Zhaitan only corrupts corpses so… why would he corrupt living beings? Maybe as the forces were killed he corrupted them like he did any other time. But we don’t see it because no one died near us.

Is Orr the next "update victim"?

Queensdale was nerfed because it’s a starter zone and the zergfest kind of distracted players from learning how to play the game with skill (people say Anet said that you’ll be able to play “how you want to” but they’re wrong, it’s more of “play however you want to use your skills” – and I mean skills not as the little icons you click on your skillbar, but your own abilities to read and adapt to situations).

Orr is a higher level zone and is meant to be more rewarding because of such.

I doubt that they’ll touch Orr anymore unless things are too rewarding (aka exploitive or just plain broken). They only nerfed the Frostgorge Train (but not kill it) because of the issues around Claw of Jormag’s spawn – though that’s no longer an issue thanks to Megaservers so I’m not quite sure they really felt the need to do such.

If you listen to all of their dialogue, then they leave Taimi alone and explore the Sanctum (the Zephyrites won’t let Scruffy on board – too heavy – and Taimi can’t go without him due to leg issues). So while they’re taking care of Taimi, they go on their own way. But previously they only walked like 10 feet away. So the update likely fixed them going to a more appropriate “going away” bit.

Canach's Billet

There is no “M”. There is only E.

Which, given we don’t know E’s gender, it could be E who bought Canach’s billet. But my guess is still Countess Anise or Lady Wi.

E, I think, will be the Master of Peace. Why? “Master of” feels very reminiscent of Master of Whispers (and Zephyrites hold a strong Elonian tie along with Canthan tie), and he’d be interested in the politics of the world (balancing peace and whatnot), and there’s hints of the Zephyrites holding something of interest for Season 2 – and we’re told we’ll know who E is by the end of Season 2. Faren’s still my second guess for E, just because it’d be a fun plot twist and Faren does tend to stick his nose… oh, just about everywhere political.

Any chance of M visiting the Zephyrites?

We don’t know what Mordremoth’s minions will be made out of, yet. All the “examples” of minions we see… are pre-existing creatures.

@Aaron: It’s kind of the point. “Replicating” – or more accurately, “creating new minions” – is vastly different from reproduction. And it really defines what exactly that “baby” and the eggs are/were.

It is vastly more important if the baby was from Glint being impregnated before corruption – signifying that there was, indeed like some theorize, a dragon race – or if she’s just making a run of the mill dragon champion like she could make any other dragon minion (but it’s a champion instead of a typical minion). Basically, is it like the Crystal Guardians/Spiders, or is it different?

That difference really is important, at least in my view, as it signifies a lot in terms of lore.

It’s really different to say “this dragon-shaped minion was created in Glint’s image” versus “this dragon-shaped minion was the corrupted fetus of a dragon that hatched and grew”.

@Excelliate:

Warden Illyra: Yes. Yes! Look at these runes. The Forgotten were able to remove Kralkatorrik’s control over Glint.
Warden Illyra: Glint remained in crystalline form, but she regained her free will and identity.

From Arah explorable, Forgotten path. Says she was made of crystal. Most of the Branded actually look like a lair of skin with their insides being solid crystal, which would fit Glint’s appearance too – skin with crystal underneath. Basically the opposite of the icebrood which turns the skin and blood to ice and later the muscle and other tissues except bone.

What have the Zephyrites been up to?

That’s a good point to make Shew, and I’d say it puts the nail into certifying that they came from Cantha.

If Zephyrites are involved in Season 2, then we may eventually get some hints to Cantha’s state. Or it may just end with it being a tie for China’s release.

@Tamias: I think it’s less of excluding, but that at the time each had no interest in joining in large numbers. The Zephyrites are the successors of the Brotherhood, so they were likely formed after Eye of the North (may have been tied to the cut Elonian Beyond story actually…), and by that time the Orrians were almost all gone, the Ascalonians were on the brink of death, and Kryta was still cleaning up the mess of the White Mantle. Most people would have been too patriotic to leave if they hadn’t already – or dead.

Elonians or Canthans however, were different. All dwarves were turned to stone by 50 years after EN, which matches pretty close to the rises of Joko and Usoku, so the forming of the Zephyrites would have accompanied the exiling of Canthans and Elonians. All those Canthans and Elonians would need a place to go, and as we see with DR, there… actually isn’t a sizable amount of Canthans – odd, isn’kitten Unless the sizable portion… joined the Zephryites.

I have only seen one thing about the land they got the decorations from: it is highly cultured and seems to be in good condition (or their ports are).

So Cantha seems to be doing well.

As to the Bazaar and Zephyrites – it seems that the Zephyrites tend to land for the Bazaar itself, but not always.

For why there’s more Canthans and Elonians, the dev comment you may be thinking of may be:

GuildMag: So one more question. So why do the Elonians and Canthans take up most of the crew of the Order of the Zephyrites?

ArenaNet : I believe it has to do mostly with the way the organization was founded and where it was founded. They do have this connection to the Brotherhood of the Dragon. They were in – like I said they keep themselves separate, they keep themselves distinct from the Tyrian races. So naturally the only thing left after you deal with Tyria is Cantha and Elona. It’s really just a question of geography. This is where the organization was founded so it drew on its members from those places before the Sanctum figuratively took off and floated away never to touch the ground again.

As to Remnu’s comment… isn’t that from last time? Which I thought referred to Glint’s power they hold.

Canach's Billet

No, but a Sheriff Siriam of the Lionguard would certainly know about a former prisoner (Mai Trin) and a member of the Captain’s Council and former Lionguard member (Ellen Kiel). Sheriff Siriam would be above anyone else the one who knows Kiel and Mai Trin, having met both of them recently (Mai Trin while she was imprisoned, and Kiel multiple times most recently during Escape from LA).

Things I’ve noted that’s different from the previous time the content was around:

  • Canach got his billet bought by a female human noble-like person.
  • The Biconics (not just Marjory but Braham and Rox too, haven’t found the ones in Labyrinthine Cliffs yet) are talking about going after the “entity” that drove Scarlet mad.
  • I noticed a new Zephyrite ship that in the cinematic when you first go to the top has a door open (that closes during said cinematic) with a golden shine behind it.
  • Trader Aerin seems to be joining – or trying to join – the Zephyrites (he’s jumping around the ship talking about what good he’d bring to them).
  • The Watchknights have been reworked to prevent external hijacking again, hinting at their full-time return.
  • Zephyrites mention the previous place they went to is where all the decorations came from, but I wouldn’t take this as a hint for Season 2 as it’s obviously a nod to China release, but does heavily imply about Cantha’s state: they mentioned it was very cultured and with colorful ports.

All those artifacts are from the previous release. Not new. Look for new things.

Canach's Billet

in Lore

The billet thing is no new info. It was first mentioned with Edge of Destiny, though Canach is the first in-game mention of such. What’s new is them auctioning the billets off.

But let’s see known female humans with noble demeanors:

  • Kasmeer
  • Anise
  • Jennah
  • Baroness Jasmina
  • Baroness Yolanda
  • Lady Bethsha
  • Lady Bower
  • Lady Foote
  • Lady Gwynith
  • Lady Maddigan
  • Lady Madeline
  • Lady Mashewe
  • Lady Sarah Marduke
  • Lady Wi (who happens to be of the Order of Whispers)
  • Minister Ailoda
  • Minister Rachel

I can’t see it being Mai Trin, as LA would recongize her and she hardly seems like someone who’d have a noble demeanor. Same goes for Kiel – she’d be recognized and hardly someone who has noble demeanor.

My bet is on Anise, Lady Wi, or someone we don’t know.

“producing new minions” is not the same as “giving live birth as a Dragon minion”. There are a lot of cases where we see minions with the primary or sole purpose of producing new minions (there is one such case in Straits of Devastation, and the Destroyer Queen and Great Destroyer were both this as well). But none of them get pregnant and give birth all while being a Dragon minion – which means having all organs turned into some element (or just rotten through).

How can something that is 100% crystal, ice, or fire “become pregnant”?

Current Strength of Humanity

About the Watchknights, Lord Faren in the pavilion states that he was amongst the noblemenane other overseers who oversaw the Watchknight’s reconstruction and whatnot so that they couldn’t be tampered by outside forces mechanically or magically. So it is touched upon, and right in the middle of the Watchknight presence.

I’m actually more surprised that they aren’t around outside the pavilion – perhaps it is because the thought is that there hasn’t been enough time since Scarlet’s attacks yet. Or as part of the testing to ensure they are safe, which would explain Faren’s presence as the apparently sole noble there.

As to Caudecus manipulating Jennah, I doubt it. Caudecus’s parties and Jennah’s parties are for completely different reasons. Caudecus was after blinding cityfolk from problems with joy. While Jennah is after using celebrations for proclamations of overcoming the threats. One tries to hide the threats that exist, the other highlights them and marks them as overcomeable.

Firstly, Scarlet’s alliances didn’t set up that barrier. That is the defense system of a Priory associate who studies on highly magical entities (such as the Elder Dragons). Players witness the defenses from the inside during On Red Alert.

That said, the mural closely resembles the Canthan Saltspray Dragons – or a Forgotten, which is not a dragon but an upright serpentine race. If that is indeed a dragon. It would be odd for ArenaNet to use unique resources here and there is no dragon stain painting like that which I know of. While looking at a small version of the image it certainly does feel like a typical european dragon motif, when looking at the larger version, not so. Would like to see other uses of that.

100 blade shards = 1 green

Where can we get blade shards now? I’m trying to make spinal blades!

Three ways. There is a mystic forge recipe. Mined from Sprocket node in home instance (requires Gift of Sprockets). And killing Aetherblades (TA Aetherpath, Gendarran jumping puzzle, or in the center of Edge of the Mists). If you have enough t1 and t2 dust and money for Sprockets, I’d go with the forge. Best do the mining too daily to save money.

I bought the blueprints from the TP. What else do I need for the mystic forge? Is there a recipe on the /wiki?

The blueprint (and backpieces) say what you need until you get the first ascended item, then the Assault Knight Core items say what you need.
