Y’all don’t really seem to want them on your precious map anyway, filling up your queues and taking up space.

It’s sort of moot anyway since changes are apparently coming – I just hope it happens soon.

Well to pop you off your high horse for a bit. No one said ban all PvE players from PvP to lock em away in care bear land and throw away the key.

Many PvP players advocated JP’s be moved to private instances that are not linked to PvP map ques, so it would be a win win for everyone. WvW players and guilds want the PvX player for their map milita.

Also with the 10:1 or greater ratio of PvX players you’d think there would be some support from that player base. Like help us help you and all, but nope.

I can also claim the WvW community is far more accepting of fresh bodies than the majority of dungeon groups. You know biased PoV and all.

Why do PvE’rs have to have map completion? Other than legendaries I can’t think of much, unless you like having the nice star icon next to your name that proves you’re well travelled – does this make you more effective in PvE? Not really.

WvW players should obviously not care to want Legendaries or map completion stars, seeing as having awesome aesthetics adds nothing statistically to our playstyle, we shouldn’t want them. I think tbh that I should be allowed to ‘want’ nice things, without having to jeopardise my ‘pure WvW’ playstyle, but still I have to dip myself into the unpleasant business of CoF farming to make ends meet. If we want to go do map completion for a legendary or a star icon, let us, because we have just as much entitlement as you do. We should really be complaining louder than you because we need to go for 80% to boring generic PvE zoned and slap this monster with this sword, or press F on this thing, to get those awful heart things done.

To get your legendary or your completion star, you have to work for it and dip your feet into every part of the game – complete it, some might say. That involves actually playing it, not waiting for a week so you can stroll into a tower instead. Go and fight and die for your server like the rest of us, work for your tower, capture it, fight, kill, win, make an effort; play World Versus World.

We have to press F on interactive objects all day like you PvErs, should we dare to want a nice weapon.

You forgot to add how screwed PvP players are for Guild events. Most PvP players do not have the way points to participate.

Not to mention how PvE players screw the maps by being in the JP.

Your 5% is a much smaller barrier than the 95% of hoops PvP players would be forced to jump through.

It seems to me that many professions have traits that makes them extremely (passively) resistant to conditions, which in turn makes them almost impossible to kill with condition builds. Now, granted I play Condition Mesmer which is not a particularly strong condition damage profession, but what do other people think?

Agreed conditions are not as strong as they should be for teams, for 1v1 more build diversity would be nice.

The current mechanic of pop , pressure, wet noodle, is what makes conditions at least in team play less viable.

Nostalgia will scream well GW1 had it right, why not GW2? Part of the issue is the huge variance in HP and the way conditions are tracked ala a ton of timers.

I would like to see condition move to being a strong team pressure role, but with the way GW2 is built, I’m wary it’s even possible to reclaim the meta of it’s predecessor.

It’s less game changing than people are making it out to be, ZvZ this will hardly be noticed.

Pretty much never I highly doubt Gw2’s pvp viewership will come anywhere close to sc2 or league. This is subjective but GW2 pvp is not enjoyable to watch also the rate updates come for pvp is way too slow. Esport was just a marketing gimmick

Really? I find GW2 PvP very enjoyable to watch. Especially if its a class/spec that I play. It’s not just spam all your abilities and hope for the best. The combat is fluid and constantly changing.

He did say it was subjective. Also relative to other E-sport games, GW2 Pv kitten tagnating.

I wonder what the affect would be on WvW if you couldn’t pass through another player. I’d consider restricting player movement through opponents and friendlies alike.

GW1 had body blocking for arenas. Lots of good aspects of GW1 that made it competitive for odd reasons just never made it to GW2. Which is why SPvP is in the sorry state it’s in right now.

EMP is transferring to Dragonbrand! I was talking to my friend earlier and he told me their leader made a decision and pretty much placed the guild in a situation of ‘transfer with us or deal with it’. I heard the guild is split and more than half of them disagree with Rawnoodles’s decision and have decided to stay on JQ!

Making signets work with other effects/utilities for the team would be a better route than just plain buffing the raw stats.

Example idea, trait the passives/actives to your team would offer a good meta, and with the current stats not be overpowered.

There is 5 people inside hills if you look at the mini map, so this makes you a liar! 5 people is nearly double of the supposed 3 you said were inside defending.

I see 6 with the commander tag chilling out at the inner bridge.

@OP, AC’s have FoV through the top of the door, and can hit where your standing. If you were getting hit out of that FoV, then you can infer a lack sportsmanship from the opposition.

OP, isn’t the proper way to look at it. It’s more about viable builds, and how those multiple specs balance against other classes. Right now it stands to reason that other classes are in need of some developer love to be brought up to parity with the mesmer, instead of them looking to nerf the mesmer.

The only OP thing about any class would be how buggy the skills are if they work in their favor. I’d rather Anet fix those issues first than lay the nerf bat down. Lets be honest there’s a good amount of mesmer bugs that are advantageous, and the kittening from other players would stop once fixed.

Bugs that are advantageous? Please do tell…

The infinite range pull, and teleport issues that are very abused. Plenty of youtube videos showing the bugs if your bored.

Spvp Deathmatch new mode

Deathmatch without other objectives lacks things like a reason to engage, a way to break stalemates, and a tie breaker. It also creates much wider blowouts when someone on your team doesn’t know what they are doing (does this ever happen to you that you get a clueless teammate? Heh)

Hopefully that clears up some of our reasoning for future discussions.

DM, King of Hill, and CTF (relics) were solid game modes for GW1 along with the fact there were up to 3 teams at a time. Your argument seems to overlook the success of previous work.

Also want to add, body blocking was also a solid meta that is missed.

put population caps on the maps so one side cannot severely outnumber the other side. Should have done this day 1 and it should be done day 245??

Pop caps are not a solution for the game format. There are solutions, but it requires resources from Anet they are not willing or able to commit.

A real fix would be to just get GvG in so WvW is for the care bears like Anet orginally intended.

Without WvW Anet would lose a large majority of it’s playerbase which is why they are starting to take things more seriously.

Your over estimating the size of the PvP community. Take the 400k concurrent users Anet says are on all the time. An average if WvW were full on all 4 maps would be around 7% at best per server. Reality says it’s far less than 7% depending on the tier, and time slot.

Anet could shut down all PvP and the loss would be very minimal.

In a sense, the borderlands are already urban maps. You could reskin the entire map to replace all the cliffs with buildings and simply pave over the gravel paths and the maps wouldn’t real play any differently. The change of scenery would be good, though.

Lets not forget the border maps were designed with Orb play in mind. With that mechanic removed, the border map meta is lacking. Anet options are to either fix the meta with existing maps or replace the maps.

An early pledge does net you a copy of the game for less than retail. To bad it’s going to be a long while before it comes out. Lucky for GW2 no market competition yet.

Step 1, is interesting, but the real problem is the play format in general.

Step 2 doesn’t work, as your population balance is based on a poor metric. The server pop indicator is not representative of the actual active WvW populations, which is less than 1% of the server population. There’s a lot missing from stats tracking that Anet doesn’t have to be able to balance WvW populations.

Right now the lack of competition is the only thing keeping PvP crawling.

There were a lot of things done right in GW1 to foster competition, that for unknown reasons did not get carried to GW2.

Given the resource limits to PvP I’m a bit surprised the team didn’t just port the GW1 maps and play modes.

Also not a fan of the implementation of hot join, it doesn’t foster good competition.

That would break blast finishers, would be the biggest problem I can foresee and more-so since many weapons have these things built into their regular rotation and aren’t ground targeted. Mighty Blow, for example, would become unusable because of how close-to-home it can hit by proc-ing a blast where you kick off from rather than where you end, and the animation is long such that you can hardly control if a combo field ends up getting dropped somewhere along the way..

Combo’s can be adjusted to compensate for taking the damage, also the meta for using oppents combo fields would bring much stronger skilled play. As for Cleave and AoE, the whole point of FF is to dissuade players from blobbing, and requires more skill to play. But you know lets keep this a carebear fest where everyone gets a lolly pop for losing.

It’s rather unappealing reading all of these posts stating that either:

1) ANet created WvW to appeal to zergs
2) ANet needs to do something about zergs

I do not believe that ANet created WvW with zerging in mind, nor do I think they encourage it. People need to realize that the zerging of today is not developer created, but rather played created.

Anet has incentivised zerging, as the prime method of reward, and removed rewards for smaller split and support play. Scouting, Yak escorts, Guard duty, zero rewards for the time invested.

So in short, yes it’s completely Anet’s fault for a kittenty reward system that incentivises kittenty zerg play by the PvX player base.

I’ll give everyone the best fix to zerg play, Friendly Fire. You’ll still get some dumb kitten trolls on a team, but zergs will be history.

I know the “trinity” wanted to be done away with, but as DMG and stats keep going up, its pretty much just glass cannon, and slightly less glass cannon.

Keeps getting worse with ascended armors too.

Why isnt WvW balanced like SPvP?

Glass builds = free bags. As for the SPvP system in WvW, it just wouldn’t work currently without a full rebuild. The biggest issue with any major change is that Anet is not capable of backdating rewards.

So anyone that wanted kills/karma/badges/time spent converted to say a new currency system to purchase skins ala SPvP lockers menu. Anet wouldn’t be able to do it. It would literally kill the game. SPvP is already a failure and a development year behind even matching GW1 arenas.

The limit imposed i understand since no machine and internet line can hold that much data transfer. So with the limit we have the queue. The idea is somehow to bring the players with big activity in WvW in front of those with less. The new ranking system is ok. So a raider with lvl 16 would take the place of a lvl 1 invader.
Dunno, topic open for discussion….

Ranks would be an awful metric to measure activity/skill/or contribution. There are a lot of hardcore guilds that use alts for comps, that if linked per account would be equivalent or greater than most players using a single toon.

Ques always should be FIFO.

Also if your having que problems, be glad your server has such participation. Though that will drop in a week or so once the fair weather PvE players get tired of being farmed by the WvW only guilds.

Here are my criticisms:

1) This is the final nail in the coffin for small group play in WvW. The carrot now belongs to zergs (and zerg guilds) that deliver the WXP goods.

Enterprising groups with the supply buff will take more on their own without needing pugs as mules.

2) WXP is awarded only through PvP, and not capping objectives. It is fine to have PvP-only point awards in WvW, however, they should not be tied directly to aquiring WvW abilities. This favours PvP-farmers and zergs (see above).

Events reward WXP, which is everything involved in capping camps, towers, and keeps.

Here are my criticisms:
3) Character-bound points, rank and WXP. This anti-alt, anti-Manifesto (“play your way!”), and favours grind.

I do agree this method of grind is bad. This will create a power gap for new players, and a large annoyance for those with multiple toons.

Also personal improvement idea for the WvW skills. It would have been better to make it account bound, and allow the points gained to be reset on the fly much like the trait system or with a reset fee.

The tags don’t represent the guilds on other servers. You have to read the whole guild name when you target them.

Also PvE players have been doing this on all servers to dump siege they think is useless and to get free XP for leveling.

All you can do is ask them to stop, or better yet donate their siege they don’t care about.

If your currently not having a full bags problem, you need to be in a party, and running with a guild group that can cap points and get kills.

All the above aside, the loot has been poor vs PvE since live, and only Anet can give their reasoning behind such a decision.

The way Anet designed their back end. Culling is a result of trying to reduce the server side strain which is where the skill lag comes into play when the servers can’t handle the load.

Expect skill lag to remain the same at best, but more than likely get worse with the update, since more bandwidth and upgraded servers aren’t able to resolve the current server side load issue.

A lot of the above advice is good, but the one thing that helps bring all the concepts together will be commander ride-a-longs.

Get on comms with other guilds then just soak up communication style and tactics. You may even want to consider ride-a-longs on other servers if you have a good repoire with strong guilds elsewhere.

Unfortunately the recruitment tactic won’t work. We tried to rally gold to help Tsym transfer to BG to be with their compatriots, but we only came up with 7 copper :x

Just for chuckles, an amusing fix would be to have a map wide pulse every 10 mins that kills everyone with 1000m of each other if there’s more than 40 players near by. Also just for more giggles it won’t disseminate between friend/foe.

Brings in new ways for smaller groups to troll larger groups, oh the suicidal fun that could be had.

As an honest question, I’d like to ask the people who feel that zergs are bad or whatever, if in their 5 man teams if they have ever killed or attacked a solo’r?

No real problem with zergs. I and many others have issues of the fights being reduced to, who has more bodies to auto attack. Any player skill jumped out the window, as you just button mash in the hope that something works.

Pray for a patch this month that’s actually going to resolve culling and skill lag. I’m expecting more of a 2 finger salute from Anet though as they push out more care bear content.

Does anyone else here playing as a commander roll glass cannon, and what advice would you have?

If you plan on small ops with a tag then glass + high mobility is fine. Also since no one has mentioned it yet, blue hats render first so expect to be focused. Thus leading into large fights you want as much survivability as possible.
