Just introduce one hardcore server that has open world PvP and loot for anything not specifically soulbound (maybe tweak what is and isn’t soulbound for this server).
On that point, it would be far easier to just label 3-6 servers as dedicated to WvW toseparate the population. So that WvW minded players can have the 24/7 coverage needed for good competition, and anytime drop in play without getting burned out trying to cover weak time slots.
Also once the PvP critical mass of players leave, WvW and S/TPvP will be a sorry shadow of it’s current state, with chances of recovery slim to none at least for the PvP side of this game.
(edited by Krakah.3582)
The irony is that a lot of missing features was in already Guildwars 1. I can only come to the conclusion that Anet ran out of production bandwidth for PvP.
When logging back in later in the evening I almost fell out of my chair. All the hard work the everyone put into recovering all the map was tossed in the can and flushed (LOL). There was absolutely no points left in our possession.
Your pointing out an old issue with the current 24/7, 7-day system. Outside of maybe T1 this situation is unavoidable due to night capping.
If you’re like me and refusing to grind for a legendary weapon or ascended jewelry I’d like to hear about it.
Burned out on PvE from Wow raiding, cannot do it anymore.
100 pieces of siege. Even assuming they are all Trebs(because they are most expensive besides golems) that is 24 gold worth of siege a day. Split among 20 people in the guild that is only 1.2 gold a day which can easily be made in a at most 2 hours of WvW unless you truly just sit in a tower and never see a sole. In which case you aren’t using siege anyways.
100 is the low end, and this also doesn’t account for upgrades, the guild I’m in per evening can piss away over 250 easily not including upgrades, also T2. In the end we’re still forced to hit PvE to grind funds. The economics and reward parity is way out of whack, and Anet really needs to increase either money or badge drops.
Dear BG and IoJ,
You’re colluding. We know. It’s hardly subtle. Not faulting you for it, I can understand the strategic value.
But do you have to do it in the jumping puzzle?
Bugger, it looks like the jig is up. You’ve caught us holding hands and spoon feeding each other ice cream.
IMO the rewards are designed around it being a group event as much at the objectives.
I forget the exact amount you get for taking a tower but it’s something like 1-2 silver. That means if you drop two rams to take a tower then if you have 12 people there you just broke even. Make that a 30 man zerg and you know have enough for the first two upgrades.
The problem is no one works as a team when it comes to gold so you get the same people dropping siege all the time and purchasing upgrades but no one throws them any cash.
The system it’s self is fine though IMO. Guilds are going to be more effective because they will “share” money better. Just like they will often be more effective in combat because of organization. Small groups can easily take supply camps that require no siege to take so is just pure profit.
Factor in badges that can be used to purchase siege, skill points that can be used to build Sups and daily jumping puzzles for blue prints and it’s fairly well balanced. I am never hurting for money and I buy tons of siege every week. I dropped 5 superior trebs on reset night. That is 2 1/2 gold worth of siege right there, not counting the other siege I dropped. Though in fairness I also play the TP for money but before I did, I was always plus money after leaving the borderlands, I just couldn’t drop as much siege.
This is not true. Strict T1-3 WvW only guilds are burning through 100+ siege every day, no amount of in guild donations can keep up with this. These are the guild when they show up generally take over most of the map for the time they’re on. Your economics don’t mash with everyone.
I would like to add more to that wish list.
33) Make BoH drops apply to a credit field much like karma.
34) Increase BoH drop rate so dedicated WvW players do not have to touch PvE content.
35) Give rewards to those in support roles/positions or boredom. Examples would be trebbing, escorts, support kill credit, spotting.
36) Give a spotting option that replaces the automated crossed swords (similar to BF spotting, then fades after x seconds.), basically players should be able to flag enemy units on the map and get credit. Would make scouting a big part of the meta.
1) Confused by this one, may you please clarify it if possible?
2) Added
3) Added (but on that note, there’s the issue with Yak escorting which is why they removed it early in the first few weeks of the game: people stop fighting and just escort Yaks the whole time. Also, I’m not so sure about rewarding supporting such as healing or what not because this game has made it viable for everyone to heal themselves and just keep damaging/fighting enemy. Trebbing part I can agree on because someone who’s been trebbing a wall for 30 minutes should get Gold rank when the keep is finally taken).
4) Already on there for removal of swords, but added the player marker idea.Great ideas guys, keep ’em coming.
To clarify #33, i’m asking for BoH to no long be an object, and to become just another variable like karma. That way no worries about auto loot, and it becomes the defacto PvP credit. Similar to Wow Honor points, just a variable on your bar.
For #35 the rewards can be set appropriate to the task. Even a small pittance of a reward is better than no acknowledgement of the contribution. Yaks can maybe give 3-5% of daily, it’s not super great but it’s a hey you did something helpful.

Something isn’t right with the Badges of Honor — the drop rate either needs to be adjusted or the gear costs need to be cut in half (at least). When you consider the cost of obtaining end-game gear through other means, it’s not balanced in terms of time investment.
Agreed, it’s been said many times the reward parity between PvE and PvP are broken. It’s ironic Anet wants to be recognized for PvP, yet put forth far less resources towards it than it does for PvE.
If you decide to join T2, BG and IoJ are both in need of more NA players. BG has the possibility to bounce between T1 and T2 so matches may not get as stale. If your looking to just even out a Tier IoJ is in far more need of a NA guild than SoR or BG.
Heck maybe help push a T3 server into rotating with a T2 server for more variety. really depends on what your looking for.
It’s an Anet issue, the WvW servers can’t handle players having a massive 3 way over a keep.
With their current PvP population it should be a no brainer to ArenaNet that achieving their desired e-sport status is a long way away.
Agreed, it really requires a rebuild from the ground up.
If there are 10 great teams that are exciting to watch but no one else even plays PvP they could have amazing tournaments but no one will watch them.
No spectator mode to watch anyway, Anet dropped the ball big on this one.
Hotjoins have been a lot more fun since they introduced 5v5 from my experience but there are definitely still issues there. One big thing I think would fix this is getting rid of your option to join specific servers and make you simply join 8v8 or 5v5 and it will put you in the next open slot.
Hot-joins in it’s current iteration is missing features which were working in GW1, even teams at the start of match is very rare, and missing the option to /surrender to just end a lopsided match early.
For arena formats, I really wish Anet had hauled over all the old maps if they were going to be lazy about things. At least there would more than 1 game type and 20+ maps to cycle through if they included all the GvG and HA maps together.
Had to also add anet should change their name to PVEnet since there is and has been very little resources put into PvP in general.
(edited by Krakah.3582)
All that aside anyone have basic numbers for sPvP they seem to get attention. Is it greater then 10% of the player base every day?
Not even remotely close, it’s probably barely %1, and more like sub %1.
S/TPvP was released with far far less game modes than GW1, and the hot-join system is inherently unbalanced, thus pugs are given a horrible experience of being zerg’d vs losing from lack of personal skill. Anet has already missed their E-sport window and the damage is done.
And I’m being vocal because quite frankly BG needs to be made an example of so that all the legitimate servers and guilds out there manage their player base better collectively so we can have good fights. Especially because of how many people actually used the exploited portal, that is what is the most troublesome. The TiD issue was a small guild, the ICOA exploit portals was at times the entire BL porting in with an exploit, that’s outrageous.
By your own logic SoR as a server should be hung to dry as the example since this was caught last week over there. But you know good job avoiding any hypocrisy or irony in your crusade.
I would like to add more to that wish list.

Blackgate I hear you guys respect your pugs/militia and smaller guilds you guys have room for a pug that upgrades keeps, run supplies and drops sieges for everyone to use ?? I wouldn’t mind joining one of your guilds too as long as I get to smash SPQR guild I would be happy.
Wow that’s kind of a brutal opinion of fellow players. BG works with many small guilds, their contributions are very much appreciated.
Something I was just thinking about. What happens if population spreads too thin across the servers in the game? Usually we see server merges happen, but I am curious what would happen in GW2’s case.
Server pride is more prevalent in this game when compared to others due to how WvW works. What would be ANet’s course of action? What if servers got merged? How would you feel being grouped with people who were once your sworn enemy?
Of course everyone especially the devs want healthy numbers across all servers, but this has to be thought about eventually.
Anet wouldn’t have to do a merge at all. Toons would just have a simple pointer tag for the server they rep for WvW only. PvE would default to the overflow system where by the PvE pop would be clustered together in one large pool similar to GW1. This should be trivial to implement for Anet.
That’s it BG, go back to boycotting WvWvW. Seriously lol. What the heck guys!!
If IoJ and SoR want to stack BG we’ll be happy to fight in T1 with you all. It’s been a blast so far. =)
Sounds like a time zone coverage issue. Outside of stacked T1 servers this is quite a common issue. Also general burnout and a shrinking PvP community are not helping in general.
Hmm Thanksgiving and a certain mmofps which a lot of W3 players are interested in came out and that on top of FotM.
I wonder if W3 population will ever recover overall after this week.
For the long-term health of WvW I really really hope Anet does a PvP focus patch next. PS2 is really biting into the player base across all servers. I’m willing to bet if you took all the PvP minded players and mashed them together. It would only populate around 5-6 servers tops. As some guilds jumping up from T3 or lowers servers mention it’s a ghost town in WvW overall.
Your group didn’t use cc’s when he was visible and didn’t use aoe cc’s when he was in stealth.
We will be back. JQQ will move to tier 2 sometime
You might be back sooner than anticipated as SoS is out to a huge lead and JQ or SBI might be dropping, congrats to SoS for outstanding play so far.
With the way the rank point system works it will probably take about 2-3 weeks unless JQQ just rolls over and tanks the match for a ridiculous point deficit. Or possibly BG manages to truck roll T2, which I don’t see that happening as SoR and IoJ aren’t interested in just playing dead to have BG move back to T1.
It’s the lack of reward parity between PvE and PvP. If players knew they could gain equivalent rewards/shiny loot/GP from WvW as they could from dungeon grinding, then there would much more general interest in WvW.
It’s almost ironic that with the name Arena Net, there is very little PvP being promoted or developed. Right now PvP support has regressed. I hope to see this change, but as with most windows of opportunity I predict PS2 and other niche games putting the hurt on an already shrinking PvP community.
Crashing and constant DC’s are also affecting WvW, Had most of the maps kicked and DC’ing all evening.
@OP, it also helps if you tell us your class and specs.
As a warrior, and considered the least desired next to rangers ( I feel bad you guys didn’t get a buff this patch.) Stuns, interupts, and KD’s make a thief a very sad panda when in 3 hits they melt on the ground without having to use frenzy.
Also just because they’re in stealth doesn’t mean they don’t take damage. If you had a warrior in group he can tell he’s hitting the thief in stealth via the adren bar going up per hit.
I usually run around naked on SBI. It not only plays on the primal fears of our enemy. It proves how tough I am.
No more bandwagoners! Borders are hereby closed to SBI!!!
No other server wants them either, please keep them.
Man there is almost no one from BG or JQ in wvw right now, this is ghost time for those 2 zones
NA players will be at work or school around this time. It’s evening for EU players, so if they’re not on I can’t say why.
Any word on when Thieves will be brought into line with the other classes people play in this game for WVW?
Just curious how long the rediculous imbalance is going to be allowed to persist
Outside of large fights with culling issues for all, small group fights thieves are reasonably in line. They have good damage, and die in about 3 hits.
Thieves trolling cap points while in stealth is about the only problem I have with them.
Another infernal week with SBI and JQ again….
If we lose this week we out of T1 for abit
Well the PVE event this time will be Lost shores and will probably knock BG players out just like Halloween again…
No this is a false excuse for tanking the match this week. There have been no events during the last match with the server being completely full. The lack of turnout in WvW is not due to holiday events. My perspective being from NA primetime.
Either BG is bulging to the gills in mostly PvE care bears, people on break finals maybe? or purposely trying to let BG drop a tier.
I’m still willing to bet the total PvP population overall is less than 10% of the total player base. Thus the effort being put out for more PvE content over fixing PvP issues.
Loot gain parity has been an huge issue between WvW and PvE since the start. I am of that crowd that would do nothing but WvW, but i’m forced to jump back to PvE for funds and gear upgrades since there’s a horrible parity between, karma, gold, and badges for gear gains.
I play during NA prime time, the server is full, and it’s depressing as hell to see an out-maned buff. Oh also Anet please don’t let the other servers see the out-maned buff, it’s like the a huge please kitten me sign.
Is WvW worth it? well no but it should be I mean I spent 2 hours yesterday and I had a lot of fun but still I felt like I just wasted 2 hours of my life since I didn’t achieve anything not even a little game thing which is still wasting my life but a game needs to reward you for spending 2 hours on it. Instead I lost 15 silver. I just though DAM so now I vow to NEVER play WvW ever again till its rewarding.
If your dying a lot and not flipping keeps/camps, or killing other players much. The repair bill you have should be expected.
Try playing with your guild in a group as a team. You will die less, and generally have a net profit of a gold+ for your WvW time.
Glad to see Blackgate make the map interesting. When I quit late last night, the map was all green and there wasn’t really much to do.
Being that I was one of the few from BG on during that time slot in EB. I agree it was a bit depressing to see the server as full, but have very few NA players participate in WvW.
I’m concerned for the long run of WvW in general if there’s no appeal to the larger player base. I would be curious why the larger PvE crowd has no interest in WvW or what barriers prevent players from participating may be.
BG may drop back to T2 if SoS/SoR can push their points this week.
Some of the larger bandwagon guilds on BG seem to have been no shows this weekend. What’s left of BG running around with the out-manned buff are the original core. It’s like a bad stock bubble with the server hoping, I will not miss them one bit.
Anyway requesting score post, since stuck at work.
Badges of Honor- Is the system good where it is at, or does it need improvement?
in WvW
Posted by: Krakah.3582
But what do you guys think? What ways would you improve the current system, or why do you think it is perfect where it is at?
Looking from the perspective that someone wanted to ignore PvE totally. Badges and Karma gains are not quite up to parity.
for I’d prefer the Jumping Puzzles not be in the PvP area. It’s distracting, and takes up slots for players that would otherwise actually be doing PvP.
So I’ll take that post as buff thieves, they need more love. GJ downing 7 baddies though.
Anet remove orbs since there’s no fix for the ridiculous fly hacks.
Isn’t BlackGate now just the old Titan Alliance from HoD? Is everyone still patting themselves on the back for being able to dominate the hours everyone else sleeps?
I hope for BlackGate’s sake it isn’t Titan. Once they meet servers beginning to gain 24 hour coverage, they say “we win, we accomplished our goal” and quit.
Been on BG since day one. There’s been a BG w3 alliance going well before HoD and any other top tier server had their fall out.
@Shadowstalker.9627. If anyone has issue with the server they really should check their rage at individuals/guilds. There are jerks on every server and in every guild. Those minority don’t represent any server or community.
When we caught some players fly hacking with HoD tags, as a community we raged/reported on the players, not the server. Not one person that was on at the time called HoD cheaters, just the individuals, and were more disappointed in Anet for not banning them after previous reports.
@Forsaken your point on it not being Anet’s fault for guild clustering isn’t entirely correct. Anet has setup a system which encourages a 24/7 active cycle. For that to happen with the given amount of PvP players. It comes to no surprise in order to have good competition during much of the 24/7 cycle, as much of the active time slots would need to be filled.
I’ve made this prediction early in that this would happen, 4-6 servers would consolidate as the goto PvP servers to support such a system. Low and behold it’s happening, sadly leaving the rest of the servers predictably under populated.
I’ll also add that another part of the problem is Anet overestimated the PvP population, given the system they have in place. It would be nice to find out from Anet metrics how many players are active in PvP vs PvE. That number would give an ideal estimate of how many servers would be sustained for the 24/7 WvW system.

It’s the particle effects making it near impossible to see the target at times. More so during WvW since it can be completely buried with 30+ players on it. I believe there was a good reason Blizzard made the PvE mobs in instances larger. It’s so players could at least see the bloody target without it being buried under effects.
Anet just match servers by pop and prime times, at least the activity levels between servers will match more. Right now it’s boring when 2 out of 3 just give up 48 hours into the match.
Looks like longer than 2 secs. If you were suffering from him not rendering on your screen, and hitting you in invis mode. I can see how it would suck to die from that. Outside of, “Dagger storm”, you can CC a thief pretty easily.
Had this happen as well. Guild group on comms during peak PST, NA hours. It started happening to random people in the group. Using the Citadel port locations and going through keep door portals seem to refresh the screen to help draw the missing NPC/Players. It’s just not been totally consistent using this method.
Lets make some wacky prediction for future server balance. I predict that about 4-6 servers in each grouping EU/NA/ASIA will un-officially become the defacto WvW servers to fill for 24/7 match ups. Leaving the struggling servers to completely empty out. Lets face it no one likes having to get steam rolled just because their server happens to have a player deficit during off peak hours.
@OP, I agree with your first time impression. The rewards are not worth the effort while leveling. You’ll level faster doing events and WvW.
The dungeon difficulty mentality is an ironic philosophy that’s not an inclusive philosophy. This sort of feels like WoW Cata at the start, drop in players with limited play time being left out of content.
Having purchased this game for PvP only, I’m in the camp that’s fine with PvE content being nerf’d to care bear status. Let the casual players have their cake and fun.
So what I’m hearing from this list to complete an instance, and have it not be a royal pain in the kitten Be 80, have full 80 gear, trait for instances.
If the above is how Anet balanced the dungeons, it’s no wonder players doing them while leveling are under geared, missing most traits, are frustrated.
Can confirm, trying to shoot the flowers gives, “obstructed” message.
