Yay… everyone shatter mesmer now ! Next month : Shatter damage reduced.
If played right, mesmer don’t need much vit or thoughness. Your blurred frenzy and distortion is enough to help you in critical moments.
Like I told you, Torch and Scepter are awkward weapons that can be good in both condition and power builds. It’s up to you if you want to be a condition (rabid) or power-crit mesmer (berserker). With berserker build, you can change to phantasm or shatter spec if you are bored with PU gamestyle.
I use Torch and even more now while waiting for Prismatic Understanding buff. My traits : 20, 10, 30, 0, 10. Utilities : Mirror, Decoy, Signet of Midnight, Signet of Inspiration, Mass Invis. Traited Mind Wrack, Torch, Sword, 3% more def and dmg per clones, Signet clean condition, Pristmatic Understanding.
Runes of Altruism for buff on heal. Mirror is fast cooldown, so is Mantra of Recovery, but I liked the reflection buff from Mirror. MoR is PERFECTLY timed to work with Prestige blast.
How do I play ? iMage -> iLeap ->Swap -> Prestige (Aegis, Regen or Protect) -> Mirror (Might + Fury) -> Blurrez Frenzy + Prestige Blast + Shatter. You don’t really have to worry about conditions IMO, you have 2 signet and 2 torch skills.
You can do the same thing, without the blast finisher which is Decoy + Signet of Midnight.
I have zerker set. Torch, like the Scepter, is an awkward mix of Condition and Power weapons. Prestige burning is on condition, but the blast is on power. iMage retaliation is based on Power but confusion is on condition.

Hmm a traited scepter just got interesting. With the CD reduction the Illusionary Counter is on a 7.5s CD and the torment lasts for 8s without condition duration additions. Without condition cleans perma torment? I can see people yelling about that one. Really like that they seem to be turning us into the GW1 shut down class that I heard so much about.
It’s on Illusionary Counter, not on Counterspell, so it’s on block. Would have been better on Counterspell. Also, why is the block even nerfed ? If you are on Scepter, you are highly on a condition set (I do use Scepter on Power though), the block damage is already low ! I guess with a Rampager set it could work well.
So no, not really perma torment.
The problem is Malicious Sceptre is a Master Inspiration trait, and the typical Condition build can’t spare that without weakening the Staff; which despite the problem with bouncing attacks is still the superior condition damage weapon.
Unless the Ether Bolt chain deals condition damage I don’t see Malicious Sceptre being worth taking over Deceptive Evasion, Chaotic Dampening or Illusionary Elasticity.
If your base your logic over bouncing mechanic to say Staff is the superior CD weapon, then yes it is. Without bouncing ? Nope. At least now with the new Chaotic Interruption, we will see a new style of CD mesmer.
+200 CD on Sc is huge. Glamour traits are still very usefull. Sc/P with Sword/T. Traited : Pistol (100 % combo + traited Fury and Bleed), Glamour, Blind on Glamour, Blind of Confusion. Add Torment to it while you swap to Sw/T, iLeap, The Prestige…
Wasn’t this how Prismatic worked in the first place?
PI is working every 3 secs right now.
From the leaked patch note ‘’ Signet of Illusions: Clones and Phantasms will now gain the passive effect of this signet when they are created, rather than a few moments after creation. ’’. (Wich is VERY good).
And ‘’ Compounding Celerity: Movement speed per active illusion has been increased to 10%, allowing for 30% movement speed when three illusions are active. ’’
It’s unconfirmed though.
Nothing else for Phantasm mesmers. You are fine.
Bring shutdown back !
Go roll a warrior and figure out how Whirlwind Attack works. Its the same exact thing.
We can’t aim iZerker, for your information. Warrior can aim the direction and make a decision based on the aoe path. We can’t. It’s NOT the same thing.
Thanks for clarifications Jon. I’ll call iZerker officially Lottery Phantasm or RNG Phantasm.
Guys guys… I already changed my gamestyle and builds to have direct damage, such as iSword, iDuelist, iWarden and no bouncing mechanic weapons (sword, scepter, focus, pistol). Do it for your own sanity.
GG Anet.
IMO, iDuelist is one of the best, with iSword. Focus is very good, but situational. iDuelist hit like a truck and proc combo fields at 100 % if traited. It’s also at range, which gives more survivability. Hitting even faster with Phantasmal Haste (The only phantasm that get a real good buff from this trait).
If you want to mix shatter and phantasm damage, then iSword is the best.
I’m a warrior with fire all over my body… Wish they added new effects (not purple) on the trading post which can only be used in PvE.
Pistol has that weird thing where the trait doesn’t actually increase the range of the phantasm or something weird like that
Unless there is a recent new bug with Pistol, this was fixed quite a few patches ago.
It increases the range, but your red bar range caller is still stuck at 900 range. A bug.
So it’s basically just that it’s the highest damage ranged weapon we have based on its autoattack. That’s it?
Fastest (very important) and highest. Easier to AoE with #2, #3, #4. Add Fire sigil on AA for more AoE greatness. Shatter.
Most of mesmers wear GS and Sw/Fc.
On SotG, Jon Sharp looked puzzled or unaware by iZerker bug when it was mentionned. I think he felt it was fixed. Looks like it’s not a priority.
It’s actually not so bad if you want to stay at range and let the bouncing mechanic do the damage. It’s bad if you want the buff.
Since iZerker bug or nerf, I’m using Sc/Pistol, Sw/Focus and it’s VERY annoying. When you are in a boss fight and it takes time to kill it, Scepter auto attack always override my iDuelists. I removed the Scepter auto attack and wait for Confusing Images.
We should be able to choose if it does a clone or not. It’s sad.
Ditch staff, it’s hard to tag in events with staff. It’s usefull for boons, AoE dazing and combo fields (team play). Get GS (fast, quick, long range and some AoE) and Sw/F (swiftness, cleave auto attack, blurred frenzy, aoe phantasm with projectile protection).
Get Boon durations runes if you want longer swiftness (2 sanctuary, 2 water, 2 monk).
If you want more mobility, get Blink. Then get a condition remover (Null field) and Signet of Inspiration if you went Boon Duration runes or Feedback.
Finnaly, Berserker set.
You should be fine with that.
I got lucky with my first 10 chests. Got a ticket and a mini Faren. Tried an another 20 $ shot and had only crappy mats. They are so pricy !
Really ? They should have done the same as Fused Ticket in BLC. At least in BLC, you could get boosters, makeover kit, backpacks, etc. Now ? Just materials and one time use consortium crafting and mystic toilet (ONE TIME USE).
I’m surprised to see that, so far, I’m the only one with a Sclerite weapon skin. Not like Fused skins that seem to have higher chances.
Just don’t waste more money.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
OP ? You are taking 2 utilities slot. Also, Signet of Illusion is pulsing and not automatic. If you are taking Signet of Illusions + iDefender, might as well go full phantasm spec with iDesenchanter.
Now you end up with no stun breaker or mobility.
The torch light radius can only be seen on your screen. Other players won’t see it.
I was noticing something unusual for a long time and didn’t know why I got Vulnerability and Weakness. Now after some simple testing, Winds of Chaos and Mirror Blade can throw Skale Venom conditions back at you.
Can other professions with bouncing mechanic try a Skale Venom and see if it throws the conditions back at you ?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skale_Venom_%28consumable%29
We are missing the floater and also whirl hits. IMO, we miss hits and we do not miss floaters.
Problem is, iZerker damage is greater at the 3 and 4 whirl rotation. We’re missing way more than a 25 % damage reduction. More like closer to 50 %. (It increases in damage like iDuelist and iWarden).
(edited by Krispera.5087)
Yes they are slow. I just changed my set to get boon durations. Water + Sanctuary + Monk.
No problem with swiftness anymore.
Well since Confouding Suggestion is working with Chaos Storm now, so is Halting Strike. Yay…
I really hoped for scepter and torch love since the confusion nerf though.
Are you kidding me ?
Thief have enough cooldown to blink away.
Guardian pushes people.
Ele is invulnerable.
Warrior is getting ALIVE (A-L-I-V-E).
Only other profession that is lacking is Ranger, Engineer and Necro.
Seriously, Mesmer have the worse downed skills. If the RNG god is not by your side and you teleport JUST BESIDE, well… you’re done. Seriously, stop.
I just don’t even bother to finish thief, guardian, ele and war, they will just troll me. Just AA them.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
I always use it, since it’s affecting clones and phantasms. I feel obligated to have DE + IC in all builds I make.
I tried to land Chaos Storm in many events in Orr, I could see that I did many interrupt visually, but I don’t see Halting Strike on the combat log like Magic Bullet. Looks like we have a bug here.
Confouding Suggestions is working. Then I don’t know how to calculate Wastrel’s Punishment.
I was testing Scepter and Pistol on monsters with Halting Strike and I could see the damage on the combat log.
I tried with Chaos Storm and I don’t see the Halting Strike damage.
Is it bugged ? Also, do it works with Confounding Suggestions and Wastrel’s Punishment ?
Can I get skimpy male armor please ? They are so prude that there is an armor hiding the left nipple on an heavy armor. Come on ANet, female armors are super skimpy. It’s sexist.
I’m on Kazhiel side, it’s still a strong AoE weapon. The bug never really bothered me that much either, even if I’m a little irrited by it.
Use Sw/F and GS for AoE tagging. Throw Mirror Blade (1 clone), iBerserk (1 clone), Swap weapon, Illusionnary Leap (1 clone), Pull or iWarden (1 clone). Shatter liberaly. Repeat.
I’m too used to : Blink, Null Field, Signet of Inspiration, Time Warp.
Dungeon situation : Feedback, Null Field OR Phantasmal Desenchanter, Decoy, Time Warp.
Mesmer were nerfed to death in GW1. Just wait.
Yes it’s good, but the AA still lacking as usual. I do Scepter/Sword or Scepter/Pistol.
I see many people running Scepter/Focus, which is probably more WvW oriented.
Demon Masque
CoF Shoulders
CoF Gloves
Profane Chest
Priority Pants
CoF Shoes
Norn Zabrak Sith Lord (lol)
I hate Guardians, Necros and Thieves.
Like loseridoit said, any classes with very good condition damage.
I like the responses given so far, everyone’s had a good comment. Kispera, I think I would like to check out your build setup.
2 Major Rune of Sanctuary (10%)
2 Superior Rune of the Water (15%)
2 Superior Rune of the Monk (15%)
= 40 %
Dueling : II or III, X
Chaos : II or III orIV, X = 30 %
Illusions : II or III, VII
Utilities : Null Field or Arcane Thievery, Signet of Midnight (10%), Signet of Inspiration.
Grand total of 80 % with no food. Condition remover, Stun breaker, Support/Group boon.
Perfect mix.
Staff and Sw/F. Abuse the Chaos Storm/Null Field combo field (Phase Retreat and Illusionary Leap), for Chaos Armor (Get more boons !)
I have a boon set (80% boon duration with no food). I really like to PvE with it for the swiftness duration. Water + Monk + Sanctuary runes, Zerker trinkets and set.
0-20-30-0-20. Traited staff, clone on dodge, boon on interrupt, traited bounce.
I have Berserker (Pretty much all builds), Rabid (Glamour, Condition) and Cleric (Support Phantasm and Mantra).
10/30/0/10/20
Melee and Dazzling Glamours. I got bored with ranged weapons, so I dual sword. You can say I am Melee + Shatter + Glamour. Sw/Sw, Sc/F.
In terms of survivability, I feel like it’s the weakest of all builds and I’m debating whether mantra of pain is worth the slot in utility.
If you want to go Full Mantra DPS, then yes, in term of survivability, it’s the weakest. In term of damage ? It’s the highest damage build for mesmer. You will need to learn to dodge at good times. However, 3X2 conditions removal, 3Xstability, 3Xfastestheal (cooldown of 10 and or 8 traited ?) ?
MoP can be very annoying to recharge. I just put it on auto attack so I don’t have to manually do it. GS + MoP is deadly. It’s also a good way to add damage to Scepter slow auto-attack.
IMO, people don’t like Mantra builds because we need to recharge every time. It’s a different playstyle that you need to get used to.
I agree that scepter is better at close range. If I remember correctly, someone did a damage comparison between weapons and scepter was a surprise, since it does more damage at close range.
It’s a weird playstyle though. Never got used to it.
I am an improvisational guy in most of aspect of my life, while being very intuitive and straight forward. I am number 1 + 4. If I follow your guide, I would be a Warrior.
I’m a mesmer. I really like to melee thought. I dance between ranged and melee. It’s 50%/50%.
The Prestige is not increased, because long time ago, they were concerned about The Prestige off time being too long. Recently, they changed The Prestige, but didn’t bother to give the additionnal 1 second.
It gives the additional 1 second. When the icon is on, Decoy gives 3 seconds with PU and 2 seconds without PU.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
To all of us, it’s bugged. It takes some seconds to apply. I don’t know if it’s 50%/200%+20% = 70 /220 % . Or 50 %/200 % of the current HP pool (20 included).
Is it bugged to ANet ? I don’t know, it been like that since release.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Illusions
The health boost occurs 1-10 seconds for after the illusion is created.
Grants +200% health rather than the stated +50%.
Applies its benefits to all summoned allies that can move.
Use a skill that will make a clone when your phantasm cooldown is close to end or available. So you can put the phantasm back right after lauching the skill that will make a clone (like Mirror Blade)
Tricky part : Try to be good in your observations. If your Phantasms is about to attack, don’t use the skill that will overwrite them.
If you are a 100 % full phantasm with Desenchanter, Defender and Signet of Illusion, don’t get Deceptive Evasion. You can… but with all the skills you have available to make a clone or phantasm, you will lose a phantasm if you dodge.
I hate going Scepter in a Phantasm build for that reason.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
Glamour traits. Have fun !
Sigil, gem ?
Maybe your scepter don’t have precision but have +% crit chance ?
And, sword tait is not bugged. Look your stats carefully.
Interference – I will cry myself to sleep the day it happens.
Piercing – I will not sleep that day.
Ahah same.
So much GS love though (if piercing). Where is Scepter and Torch love ANet ?
ANet used to be way more precise in GW1 with skills tooltips, but anyway it was back then.
Mantra % damage doesn’t affect illusion. Then, I’m not sure for % damage for each illusions up. I can say that my phantasms do more damage, because I maxed 30-30-0-0-10. I’m always torn apart if I should play mantra or phantasm 20-20-0-25-5.
