I use Rune of Speed. The vitality is good so you won’t be scared to go something like 30/30/?/?/? and put the rest of the 10 points somewhere.
Also traited manipulation (20% and range) + blink. I can’t live without that.
PVE – Open World : Signets
PVE – Dungeon : Phantasm or Support – Glamour
PVP : Condition (Yay condition meta… not) or Signets. Mostly mixed styles in PvP, imo.
WvW : Signets (roam) or Support – Glamour (zerg)
Yeah… I like invulnerability too much… Mainly Signets everywhere except PvE Dungeons.

Mesmer : Faster #1 (AA) scepter on mesmer. Gosh this weapon is frustrating.
I’m okay with Phantasms, but I wish it was hexes like in GW1 and not an AI. When you’re summoning one, if the player/monster is dying, your phantasm won’t spawn.
Yep it’s intentional. Phantasm would have too many boost of damage.
It’s only good if you use weapon that doesn’t need to rely on phantasm : MH sword, Scepter (NO), second hand sword block, prestige blast damage, staff #1, gs, etc.
IMO, it helps alot MH sword and GS.
All good answers. I would like to add that the lazer thingy going on with the GS makes people cringe and see it as a joke weapon (not serious). The image they get from this weapon is ‘’someone that want to look cool’’. You see people at melee range with GS too, etc.
I use the GS, because it’s more versatile (and the best ranged weapon we have). I switch often and also change weapon depending of encounters.
So, who else noticed how broken the mesmer falling trait is right now?
Now that you mentioned… Went to see the trait and tried on a Risen…
Oh, let’s see, now people can abuse more efficiently with the Sky Hammer map abuse !
Talk with Kasmeer and Marjory south of Fort Salma. Also, look up in the sky above the lake.
Heh, iDuelist ’’nerfed’’. No more Confusing image + Ethereal Field + iDuelist huge confusion stack.
Getting excited about puny buffs ? Better than nothing.
Mantras : Will people use it more often ? I don’t think so.
Scepter ? Auto attack probably unchanged.
I’m going to wait to say my final opinion after tomorrow patch notes, but getting excited over mantra and scepter…? Nah.
No. I’m using Lyssa Runes/Prismatic Understanding + Signet of Inspiration to share boons.
Signet of Inspiration needs to give us swiftness when OOC.
Signet of Midnight could need a buff of boon durations, but it’s actually pretty good if you trait confusion on blind or follow the signet branch.
Signet of Illusion is weird. Used in passive for phantasm build and in active for shatter build.
Signet of Domination passive is good, but I would like an instant interrupt on active.
According to the current build link, you don’t have much mobility (I don’t see blink in the build unless you were referring to phase retreat). Would you consider this a weakness?
It’s true that mobility is lacking, but it’s the mesmer weakness. Osicat is pretty good with Phase Retreat/Camera Turning if you look at his videos. If you master the mechanism, it can be used like a normal front blink.
I used to play with focus for mobility in pvp, but iWarden is immobile, so it’s hard to land damage. If you follow Dietzen build, you can always change decoy for blink if you really need the mobility. Always put your own spice in your build.
Wow, someone actually understood my point? It’s as if there are actually people on this forum who don’t just go “lalala you’re insane I play how I want”.
I’m sick of trying to get through to bads.
Then don’t. You’re the one starting the issue, again, in this thread and you wonder why people troll you ? Just let it drop.
We get it, if you want to be optimal on DPS you need iDuelist and iSword, but if you want to AoE, iZerker is better. Furthermore, iZerker damage is not that bad, BUT yes (oh god…!), iDuelist and iSword is better for DPS. Oh, also, Sword MH is the best for damage. Did I get it right ? Do you feel happy ?
We get your point. That’s all, case closed.
I don’t really have anything to say, because I like when people play with signets. You explained very well the advantages of a signet build. I have my own signet build, but the essential is explained by your build.
The distortion, blind, stun breaker and condition removal is very good. I also not shatter that much, only when I need it. Signets are counters to conditions, spamming thieves and stun lock warriors.
Eh, when I saw the post, I went and changed back my build and was nostalgic.
I feel so naked when I play shatter. You’re wide open after a Mind Wrack. Your opponent is not confused by your clone generation and you lose your ‘’meat shield’‘. Also, when a player is running away, your clones can’t keep up with them.
I tend to shatter when there are opportunities now. I save 3 and 4 for defensive purposes.
I’ll stay with my shatter spec and go do some pvp and wvw in the bloodlust area to see if I’m not rusty with shatter. Thanks for bringing it up !
The GS mesmer haters are strong in this thread. He’s asking for PvE open world, not for dungeons. Scepter for PvE open world ? LOL. Oh please, you’re not even trying to be objective.
Time your Blurred Frenzy for big attacks. Get Deceptive Evasion, they are your meat shield.
Get on a Phantasm Build, it’s easy.
Use GS + Sword/Focus in PvE and faceroll. If you still have hard time, change your utilies, get better at learning the monsters mechanic and dodging.
If you’re still not comfortable with direct GS approach, just use the Staff.

Even if they were the main antagonist in GW1, it didn’t really influence my decision.
My main issue is they didn’t make standing Charr the norm. The 4 legs running in a JP is terrible.
My second issue is that Ascalon is boring. It’s accidented and war ravaged. I compare it to Orr. Ugly and accidented. In comparison to the wonderful Caledon Forest.
First test : It works
Second test (with swiftness) : Still works (I think there is a max speed, so it’s limited to that max speed, hence the no difference).
Why Masterful reflection ? The trait is terrible. Mimic do it better.
Like many said already, you don’t have a condition remover. I see that your build is WvW focused since you will eat a Lemongrass, but it won’t be viable in PvP.
Also to everyone else, give him a break.
The drop is terrible. At least you can get 30 easy Dragonite from temples and World Bosses.
Join the fiery club or be purple like all other mesmers !
By the way, your Chest Armor finish too soon so it’s a little weird at the waist level.
Yes only to #4 shatter. I don’t know why they refuse to make it works with Signet. It’s not like it will make it OP, it will make signet build actually more interesting.
Also, the reflection animation is a little longer than the time of distortion/reflection so it can be tricky.
I agree distortion should work when we start channeling it or make Signet of Illusion faster to activate. This Signet is weird. It’s good for Phantasm and Shatter, but only Shatter will actually activate it (If they ever take the signet in their utility…)
I play signet Mesmer often.
I don’t feel Bountiful Interruption is going to land many time (Actually, Interrupt build is very hard to play. You need to go all in to get good results). As for my signet build, I go 20/20/30/0/0. Traited torch, Prismatic Understanding (You have Mass Invisibility) and Lyssa runes (Even more condition removers). With the Lyssa Runes, your Signet of Inspiration comes handy if you want to share your boons.
I sometime switch Signet of Domination with Signet of Illusion. You use Signet of Illusion as a Distortion (F4) recharge. More invulnerability, but long casting from the Signet.
Since Blurred Frenzy can take damage now (I mean, like from Retaliation), use Signet of Midnight at the same time for 100 % invulnerability. Signet of Midnight is amazing when finishing a person : Guardian trying to knock you back ? Signet of Midnight !
My second weapons are Sc/F or GS (relying on Signet of Inspiration and Lyssa Runes for Swiftness). GS is for damage, Sc/F for swiftness and range.
Variants : You can also play with Sw/F or Sw or P, GS + Signet for more damage which the build lacks (Signet build cons is lower damage). Pop a Decoy in the build instead of Signet of Domination to take advantage of PU.
You have Sword, Pistol and Staff, but you have nothing traited. Maybe you should try to trait one of them, the cooldown reduction is crucial.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
I do agree with OOC speed boost, but I’m also fine with traited manipulation and focus. 24 cooldown for a 1200 blink is huge. Also, you can use the staff to teleport (you need to change your camera), but it’s harder to pull it off.
Good idea, but yeah I’m with Nuka Cola, it shouldn’t be a trait. It should be a profession specific to Mesmer. BRING BACK SHUTDOWN MESMER !
Right now, mace warriors and pistol thieves are better than us at interrupting/locking down…
Ahah, when I saw the title, I answered in my head ‘’ You can’t as a Mesmer ’’. I gave up running after people in PvP.
You know what is worse ? A mesmer norn with a ugly mixed set which wears a robe. Slowly… going… to… catch… ya… NOPE !
At this point, with the condition meta and slow movement, I’m depressed.
You need a better build.
Oh my builds are ok, alright. Yeah I get it, blink, sword swap, gs, curtains/pull, stuns, etc. Now, in comparison to other professions that can use their weapons to close gab… We only have that buggy sword swapping that requires a target.
I’m not saying Mesmers can not catch a runner, it’s just harder.

With longer and 20 % recharge on glamours, it can be good to use null field. Also, you can trait glamours to blind. With staff Chaos storm, you have 3 fields. If you take TW, you have 4. It means you can have many chaos armor.
If you go phantasm with staff, you’ll get prot on regen.
If you go Mantra of Recovery with Mender’s purity, you can get 2 or 3 (traited) condition remover.
I wonder if Mender’s Purity works with Restorative Illusions and Restorative Mantras ?
Focus with Into the Void can pull your enemies out of the point. You don’t need to trait focus imo.
(edited by Krispera.5087)
I play PU with traited signets (20%, distortion, conditions) and Lyssa runes. Why ? Condition meta.
5 one condition removers, 1 all conditions remover that gives you all boon (the oh **** button then use Signet of Inspiration and give it to your allies). You also have 2 blind, a 3 sec stun, a protected stun breaker under distortion, nearly perma prot, regen, retaliation and lots of aegis. Without even talking about Blurred Frenzy, Distortion (Shatter). People laugh at the signet build, but give it a try. I’m no pro, but I didn’t have much problems with this build, except if I’m under full of conditions and there are perma stun warriors.
Phantasm build is good for point holding. iDesenchanter, iDefender, Signet of Illusion with Dwayna or Water runes.
Also, if you land an interrupt and you have it traited, it can do a good 3K damage. I roam solo in Orr often and use Sc/Sw, because I’m tired of Sw/F and Gs. The starting animations look better on Confusing Images, while under Quickness. It used to be sluggish like always. A sluggish quickness. I’m biased, so I wanted to see if you guys saw any differences. Looks like I’m insane after all :P.
I like to use Sw off hand more than Pistol, because of the short cooldown daze/interrupt in comparison to Pistol. Actually, with the new speed, it’s comparable to Magic Bullet (minus the bounce and puny damage).
Am I insane ? I wanted to test the new Counter Blade with Furious Interruption and if my memory is right, Confusion channeling was still a little slow to start, but the channeling was ok-fast. The AA seems a little faster too.
Scepter with Quickness is very fast now.
My GW2 is patching right now so it’s speculation.
I welcome the Counter Blade speed and increased effect SIZE. The orb was so slow and small. With the datamined or new runes wich gives confusion on interrupt, it should be fun. Then, confusion sucks anyway.
Easier to interrupt iLife.
Nothing much to say.
Mesmer : Stuck with Sword/Focus and GS for fast targeting and tagging. Good luck tagging with staff and scepter.
I believe ANET really needed mesmers out of tpvp for the following reason screen clutter a Mesmer with 3 clones in a fight would be too confusing for the viewer so they balanced the game in advance to benefit classes that were more screen friendly that’s why the condition appliers got improved, or you can call me conspiracy theory master whatevs
Because those teams that had spirit rangers or spirit weapon guardians weren’t causing any clutter at all right?
Oh and also : wells, turrets, thieves, grenades, bombs, minions, etc. Can barely understand what’s happening.
/tinfoil hat off
To come back on the thread, I was very surprised while watching the stream of Mist League that… there are no mesmer…
Oh boy, thread revival. I’m using 20-20-30, lyssa runes, traited signet and PU now. Distortion is so good. Necros in PvP are not a bane anymore ! Thieves spamming their skills on you → Pick a signet (Distortion) !
I’m still asking Blurred Inscription working with Masterful Reflection, Anet.
problem is that even though the counters block one attack, the user is actually completely vulnerable until the animation finishes. If you dodge before the animation finishes, then you won’t get the damage+clone from you’re attack.
I think making it an instant cast aura that lasts x amount of seconds would be better, we could then continue to do things and this would remove the stupid issue if you dodge after you have been hit and the kitten Torment nor the clone happen -.-
I totally agree. Actually, both blocking need rework. The animation is too slow. Scepter block is worse, because all animations on the scepter is slow. It means you need to stop what you do, block, then restart the slow animations, again.
The trait is amazing, but it’s getting mandatory for any builds and I don’t like it. Right now, I’m getting used to Blurred Inscription and Cleansing Inscription (Signet build).
Like you, OP, I feel naked without DE thought.
Why is the warrior have easy access of torment on a DIRECT skill and we have it on a blocking skill ? Seriously, I’m not even start to…
Good for the 3 sec stun and Null Field buff.
Many people explained already about phantasm, they are very power related. ALL phantasm are about power. Even iMage is power related, let me explain.
iMage can put confusion, but it gives you a choice to play power or condi. Retaliation = Power, Confusion = Condition. I feel retaliation is more reliable since it’s ON you, not on someone in particular/precisely. It means, you will trigger retaliation on everyone hitting you. Then, the damage scales with power.
If you want to play condi phantasm, iDuelist is the way to go, only if it is traited. 100 % projectile combo and bleed. Crit bleed condi Mesmer rely on iZerker and iDuelist. Not many people are using this build, but I bet it’s going to be more and more popular soon, like it happened with PU.
Sword : Sclerite and Fiery Sword
GS : Fused and Zephyr
Staff : Emberspire
Scepter : Emberglow
Pistol : Fused
Torch : Fate of Menzies
Focus : Meatoberfest and Zephyr
Yeah the damage is pretty lackluster. I have 20-20-30-0-0 with Lyssa runes and traited signets (distortion and condition removal).
Pretty hard to kill, but it’s also hard to kill or hold someone. Going back to GS with same utilities and traits, without torch.
People hate scepter.
Then when you try to put MH Sword and you want to trait it, you lose Deceptive Evasion or Fury on clones. That’s the reason why you don’t see many mesmer with pistols.
I tried to like scepter/pistol, but it’s just too 1v1 and slow (scepter). As the pistol alone, the weapon is good.
Good job. Finally someone made a video on this condition spec/play.
I have Sigil of Hydromancy on Torch when I swap weapon to make them go slow and make sure I land the Prestige fire blast.
Make MASTERFUL REFLECTION works on BLURRED INSCRIPTION already !!!
Put Torment on Counterspell. Put AoE Blind on iCounter.
Fixed Torment and Scepter for you Anet.
They need to bring back the casting bar. Also, I feel it’s a learn to play mechanic. We will probably get better at interrupting the more we pratice.
I was doing the Obsidian Sanctum yesterday. My interrupt build is with Counter Blade, Power Lock, Signet of Domination (Traited mantras and signets) and instant killed many people before they know what happened (Sigil of Fire damage + Halting 1-3k damage). Quickness on interrupt is awesome.
I can see people being daze/stun locked in PvP.
Like many of you said already, it’s a unreliable playstyle and it gets me angry sometimes.
Yes shatter build is still untouched. I don’t really like to shatter, because I feel we lose more by shattering clones most of time. I shatter when it’s going to give me an advantage though.
So, I changed my traits around and always wanted to make the signet mesmer viable. With the Blurred Frenzy nerf and Signet of Midnight cooldown buff, with traited Signets, it’s pretty good. I’m a distortion and evade monster. Quickness on interrupt is handy.
I’m still disappointed by the traits change.
It ticks 2x faster so total amount of damage is still 2x more.
It’s not bugged, it works that way.
The tooltip is misleading. Now need to look if the numbers go faster or not…
