This wintersday, can we have snowballs for the guild hall? They exist for cats in the home instance so I hope they’d be easy to extend to the guild hall. If necessary, they could be restricted to the guild hall arena. I just think it’d be really fun.

I like the idea of Belcher’s Bluff offerings and other mini-games in the guild hall. I also agree that many decorations are disappointingly small. Only the SAB decorations really scale well for epic decorating. It’s too bad we cannot bump decor sizing +/- 1 or 2 from standard. I would love to see book decorations!

They likely won’t do any coffins or bones, however. It’s a tricky subject in China. (reference: https://www.techinasia.com/china-doesnt-censor-skeletons-the-truth-about-game-censorship-in-the-middle-kingdom)

what should i do ? return player HELP

Kumion.7580

… my question is simply since i can play only couple hours per day what should i do first for most efficient ways to catch up the contents.

… i probably need full ascended armors and i dont know do i have to do fractal? maybe for legendary backpack? and i gotta unlock living story for new maps too. i only have couple hours a day so what should i do lol

First, what are your goals? Everything in this game is accomplish-able in small chunks. Fractals only take a few minutes, depending upon your group and fractal choice. If that’s what you want to do, you can earn ascended stuff there. You certainly aren’t required to do fractals, though. You don’t really need ascended stuff unless you’re going to do really high-end fractals or raids.

You can also craft ascended pieces and since you have a bank full of mats, it’s a good way to go— if you like crafting. Several ascended components are time-gated 1/day, so you could spend 5 min. on this per day until you have the bits you need. If you need to farm more mats, maybe give yourself 15 min. to gather. Since there are daily gather rewards, this should be an easy bonus thing.

As I see it, you have plenty of mastery points to spend, but presumably need XP to buy mastery abilities, so you need to earn XP in the new maps (the four HoT maps, Bloodstone Fen or Ember Bay) to earn them. You’ll pick up a lot of XP and more masteries for doing any living story there.

I recommend starting with HoT story, as it will give you a lot of context for what’s happening in those areas. There are 16 chapters, but most are short, do-able in short chunks, and solo-able. For most, you could probably knock out two or three chapters in an hour. (Some have trouble with the final chapter and if you do, you can bring a friend or group to help you complete it.) It doesn’t matter if your personal story is complete, or you didn’t play the Season 2 stuff that brought us into Dry Top and Silverwastes.

To get to Bloodstone Fen and Ember Bay, you have to do Living World season 3 at least once. You can also skip directly to this part of the story if you don’t want to do the Season 2 or HoT stuff. Chapter 1 opened Bloodstone and Chapter 2 gave us Ember Bay. You could, of course, play these— the new shiny— and go back and do HoT story later. Both of these maps give LOTS of XP while the story offers a few more mastery points and a couple of new mastery abilities, too.

Whatever you choose, have fun!

The random screaming happens after you’ve collected a certain amount of unbound magic— much like the bloodstone crazed. I agree with the theory that those who collect the bloodstones and the unbound magic are effected by it. I’m curious how far it will creep into our characters and what other tics it may cause.

One more QoL tip: if you’re not near a merchant or bank, just click on the crossed swords (PvP) icon on the top left of your screen. You’ll pop into the PvP lobby with access to both bank and merchant.
When you’re done sorting/salvaging, Click the crossed swords again and choose the Exit button. You’ll be put right back into the map you left. (A word of caution, though: you may lose your metaserver map by doing this. If you’re in a currently-active map doing stuff, you probably don’t want to use this method.)

Make Races Meaningful?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

To the OP: As others have said, race should be a personal choice and not a dictated meta. With the bonuses you outlined, players would be strongly pressured to pick the most optimal race for class and similarly, they would be shunned from PUGs for choosing non-optimal characters.
Making race matter does not require stat bonuses. It’s good the races are equal.

…Norn Mastery = Gain a large sum of mf, gf and exp in Shiverpeak locations. …

I think it’s not a bad idea for a mastery to grant extra magic find and such, but restricting it to a character’s “homeland” would lead to a bunch of voluntary segregation and a lot less mixing of racial groups. Nearly every AC run would be a pack of charr. Players may be less likely to do much in non-homeland zones if the payout is much better because of the bonus, too.

… exclusive areas should be implemented to all the major cities. … And they by no means need to be equal size and content per city. …

I like the concept, but… implied or actual inequality is a can of worms. Do you not recall the HoT outrage players had over missing smidgeons of dialogue if they didn’t play Sylvari? The zones would have to be equal— as much as the home cities are. Anet cannot show overt racial favoritism. (There is some perceived favoritism, but it’s highly debatable.)

Wooden Potato’s idea of choosing your racial elite skill set keeps everything equal, but giving everyone access to all racial skills loses the racial skills’ exclusivity. It’s not a bad solution and has a lot of merit.

All in all, I think GW2 made the right call keeping the races an aesthetic choice. I hope they’ll keep it that way.

1 – Yes, the game is active. The recent sale on character slots makes it a good time to start, too.

2 – Dungeons are quick, 10-30 min. depending. Raiding does need more time and effort. Getting into a guild will help with both.

3 – I recommend trying a couple of classes that interest you for the first 10-20 levels, at least. If you’re impatient, you can boost your favorite— and as someone else mentioned, you do get a trial period to test the character at 80 before you accept it. The boost also grants you full gear and accessories for L80, though you don’t get to choose its stats.

Spirit Shards & L80 Ranking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

No masteries should be a factor. In my opinion, a player should be able to choose if he wants his xp to go to spirit shards regardless of the state of his masteries. Spirit shards were obviously introduced to give xp some more value. However, xp is still worthless if you have locked masteries, or if you are lacking MP.

I agree with you. I have no intention of ever building a legendary weapon and I would like to choose to ignore those masteries. Not sure why they should be required. Similarly, I understand Anet encouraging different play types, but I don’t think they should require fractal masteries, either. However, raid mastery requirements for the vast majority of non-raiders really sucks. I would most like to have raid masteries downgraded from obligatory to optional.

What is Scribing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scribing is a guild craft. You must have access to a guild hall in order to get the crafting station. The guild hall must be upgraded a lot to have access to the materials you’ll need to get anywhere with it. It also requires thousands of gold in its current state. Most of what you craft is decoration for the guild hall… plus guild banners and WvW stuff.

It is currently quite broken and I recommend you don’t pursue it. Maybe it will be better with the Spring Update. We’ll see.

There is already good fractal advice here. Beyond that, the endgame is largely self-driven. Set some personal goals and enjoy the game as you go.

For some ideas, you can achievement hunt, try all the jump puzzles, make a legendary weapon or craft up ascended armor/weapons, try raiding, explore HoT maps for masteries, take on a guild hall in HoT and build it up, look for gold coins on the Maguuma wastes maps, or if you prefer exploring core maps, watch where the profitable map events are— each map will have a list of bonus items for doing events there; just mouse over the map’s name. Just do whatever sounds fun. Good luck!

Guilds, how do others deal with this?

in Guilds

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

First, if your guild wasn’t set up with rules about representation, participation, or activity, then changing them (or implementing) now should be discussed with officers and the core guild group.

Second, this kind of thing matters if a guild wants to be “serious”. If it’s a casual guild, then these things shouldn’t matter much. If you have a “serious” core then see above. If there are just a few “serious” malcontents within an otherwise casual guild, then I’d suggest finding another guild to suit that need… ’cause you can have five guilds.

Specifically, 1) Inactivity. My guild keeps old friends who’re on hiatus. The guild leader occasionally kicks someone if we haven’t seen or heard from them in several months. Players who say they’re going to be gone for a while because [reasons] get to stay indefinitely.

2) The Zero contributors. IMO, the guild leader should approach them, find out why they never rep or do anything with the guild and why they choose that affiliation?

3)The off lines (invisible). Invisible has many uses. I use invisible when I just want to login for a few minutes and don’t want to get involved in anything time consuming. I’ve known folks to use invisible to avoid stalkers. I’ve also known people who didn’t realize they were invis. If use of invis. is an issue with someone, the guild leader should ask questions.

4) “guild chat?! what’s that?” I don’t always watch guild chat… who does? Sometimes, I get disgusted with map chat and shut it all down. Sometimes, I want to focus on combat stats. Sometimes, I like to ‘listen’ to guild chat but don’t feel the need to comment. The same things could be said for voice-chat programs. AFAIK, no one is required to use them. If you want to communicate with someone, there are a variety of methods to do it; guild chat is just one option.

Is Guild wars worth returning to?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

Hello, is the game worth returning to? … For me pve lacked any challenge and for her not having a meaningful healer was too much of a dealbreaker.

So, please be honest is the expansion good? Is the impact of healers strong enough now? How hard is the endgame pve?…

Well, PvE in HoT is significantly more challenging than in the Core Tyria. The first round of HoT story is also challenging for a great many players. Endgame PvE… is what you make of it. If you enjoy challenging stuff, then running map metas may appeal to you, commanding, organizing and rallying players to complete content. WvW is getting an overhaul — likely hitting in April.

The ranger/druid elite specialization is currently considered the best healer and is essential for raids. Everywhere else, it’s nice to see one but not essential. They aren’t dedicated healers the same way that you see in other games; they’re more versatile, but healing mode will feel familiar.

Guild Hall Progression

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

There isn’t any hard and fast rule about what a guild has unlocked at any certain level. It depends upon what the guild’s focus is. A WvW-focused group will have different unlocks than a guild who really focused on arena play vs. a PvE guild who focused on decorations. Certain unlocks require a specific level, but those are pretty loose. For example, my guild is level 28 but we haven’t unlocked a thing we could have done at L5.

As you unlock stuff/level the guild, the hall grows— buildings get cleaned out and eventually restored, some bridges get repaired, you can even explore/open new areas of the hall. Also, the central power crystal grows bigger.

While I love the concept, Baconomics.8674 has the right of it. Anet dissolved their dungeon team back in 2013. John Smith wrote specifically, on more than one occasion, that they were “deincentivizing dungeons”. Part of that was taking away gold rewards, but in essence, they do not want people regularly running dungeons anymore. There’s no way they’re going to add any kind of incentives or new things for dungeons.

I think it would be lovely to be able to design our own gear, but…

*It’s probably a programming nightmare
*With the current armor seams, we’d still have to conform to light/med/heavy
*They would have to set anachronistic limits … and disallow nudity-likenesses.
*As a result, we’d probably be left with a very limited template, similar to being able to choose from 3 or 4 dye channels.

IMO, it’d be better if they held periodic contests for customer-designed outfits for the game.

1. We all lost some builds in the rework. I suggest poking around on metabattle.

2. Power/shatter is a thing, so is condi mesmer. Again, have a look at metabattle.
2b. I would say soldier mesmer with speed runes is NOT a good investment. First, you don’t really need speed runes anymore— the 1-finger signet has guaranteed speed now and chronomancer elite gives passive 25% mesmers always begged for. (I know you don’t have the expansion yet, but chronomancer is worth getting the upgrade, IMO.)

3. You can now salvage ascended rings. Buy the tools from the fractal vendor.

4. A lot of the excess craft mats are now in much higher demand, mostly thanks to the massive gold sinks that are guild halls. If you’re not in a guild, or not interested in doing guild halls, keep feeding your pets the stuff you can’t sell.

5. Nope, nothing else missed forever— and the bats/snowflake shoulders will probably return with their respective holidays.

6. Again, nothing missed forever. Once you get the expac, you can catch up on the new zones’ story.

7. Regarding the soldier pendant in PvP: http://dulfy.net/2016/01/15/gw2-upcoming-changes-to-pvp-runessigils-and-amulets/

8. Regarding PvP match-ups: There’s quite a bit of debate between whether HoT elite specs are “OP” or whether players just need to “L2P” and find new ways of defeating them. In essence, I think you’ll suffer a re-learning period. Having a look at the PvP forums may help you.

9. Void jumping is still alive and well. There are even new things to find now that we can glide everywhere. (You know… once you have the expac and at least step one of gliding mastery.)

NCSoft published GW2, but in no way developed or created it. An NCSoft team developed BnS. GW2 was created by a US developer, BnS by a Korean developer. They’re very very different beasts. BnS is no way a “culmination” of all NCSoft’s games.

Specifically, BnS was developed by Team Bloodlust. Think of Team Bloodlust and ArenaNet as very different authors and their respective games as books… published by NCSoft.
