Way to tell which hearts done in Lake Doric?

in Living World

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

I believe that if you look at the map from any zone other than Lake Doric, you’ll be able to see what hearts you’ve actually completed for completion; once you enter the Lake Doric zone, the map will show the daily version of your completion.

I tested this. Unfortunately, no. All hearts appear to be full when checking from another map, even if the map key says 4/5 hearts.

Perhaps a bold outline around hearts which have been done at least once?

@Rashagar: Debatable.

Grant Gertz said, “First, each game mode will still use a specific currency unique to that mode as part of the price but the rest of the costs associated with purchasing the gear will be the same across the game modes.” And, “Second, purchasing the ascended gear will now rely much more on player crafting. The cost for a piece of gear will now include a crafted token which shows a player’s mastery of the appropriate crafting discipline, the game mode specific currency, and raw gold. … For PvP, this will add a considerable cost to the acquisition of ascended gear.”

Then ended with, “And while ascended vending now requires max level crafting, players that obtain ascended gear via vending will see a moderate discount in cost over traditional crafting.”

Good:

  • I absolutely love the personal touches— special mentions of race and class with special abilities.
  • Lore bits everywhere!
  • Very event-driven map has plenty of things going on. I appreciate there are reasons for the use of the full map, too. (unlike Bitterfrost)
  • I liked the fun new cats. (Other animals in future would be a nice change, though.)
  • I liked the plot of the story…

Bad:

  • I didn’t like how story made everyone fill hearts and an XP bar to progress the story. That was lazy.
  • I didn’t like Demi’s death. C’mon, any player could’ve healed her. We had plenty of time. It felt really contrived and her death wasn’t necessary.
  • Anytime an event needs to fail in order to accomplish something there are problems.
  • The leather farm is a huge disappointment. The POIs (mostly) locked behind a zerg, the lack of enthusiasm for an unrewarding farm, the RNG nonsense killing reliability of sourcing mats.
  • Spinning final room. Sure, the jade playing pinball with my corpse was not fun but I’m told that’s fixed now. And yes, having .2 seconds to react and hit the button under my waiting finger and still getting dead and tossed about wasn’t fun but again, I’m told that’s better now. Still, spinning the room makes me look away from the screen briefly and firmly tell myself that I’m not actually spinning. I didn’t want to ride the spinning ride, I know it makes me ill. I don’t want to play a game that makes me ill.

The ghost cat does move around. I once found it just S of the stampeding centaur entryway, and once S down the road from the homestead- just E of the road. Both times it was under the rock overhangs.

The bloodstone-crazed cat, Lady Wisteria Whiskington, is only found in Cadacus’ manor. I’m pretty sure you have to defeat the boss before the doors will open to give you access to the cat.

How does everyone feel about Sylvari now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kumion.7580

In the new season, Councilor Phlunt has an over-reaction to Canach showing up at Rata Novus. There are a couple of “jokes” about how sylvari are no longer a dragon-threat. There were also some sharp comments in Bloodstone Fen from Marjory regarding sylvari. Whether they were meant to refer to Caithe in particular or sylvari in general is a bit subjective.
Then Marjory and Braham both tell-off the Commander… which has nothing to do with whether you play sylvari, so I guess that’s equality at work.

Suggestion to improve the Adventure

Personal Story – most new players are skipping this…

Dynamic Events – … it is ignored.

First, where are you getting this? “Most players” I know enjoy story and dynamic events. As a matter of fact, players who want to level quickly are often advised to do all the dynamic events they encounter, as they will be rewarded with XP and karma to buy leveling gear. Further, since they introduced special map rewards for any player doing four dynamic events, there has been renewed interest in these.

Second, the “wanted system” you describe is known as a guild bounty.

Third, what you call an “exploration relationship” is what I call finding a friend to game with. Every class has buffs and if you group together, those buffs are shared. The more you game with friends, the better your relationship, right? And teleport to friend is an existing item in the game.

Finally, as for “force the player”… yeah, that doesn’t go over very well with GW2’s player base. For a long time, the game was billed as “play how YOU want to play” and that’s what the player base generally wants to maintain. I hope you can enjoy the game for what it is.

Is GW2 Worth Getting Into? (2017)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

If you enjoy this game, then just have fun playing it. I seriously doubt it’s in its death throes. LOL. Monetary figures released show the game is making a profit. While they don’t release player numbers, signs indicate that population is good. Anet is also working on a second expansion— all signs for continued existence of the game.

IMO, WoW is the least common denominator. Whatever peoples’ opinions of that game, it does have a large reletively loyal fan base and many can relate to it. BDO is very pretty, which is the best thing I’ve heard said about it. However, if you’re worried about the expense, I’d caution you away from that game, too. It’s arguably pay-to-win on top of the box fee and sure, companies need to make money; where you draw the line is subjective.

I will say that GW2 has no sub fee and as long as you login sometime while a living story update is active, you won’t have to pay for it. Even if you can’t login when new content is active, you can convert game gold to purchase content so it doesn’t have to cost real money.

There are always new games coming out. If one catches your fancy, put GW2 on hold while you give it whirl. Is it really a waste to enjoy something temporarily? You can always rediscover the fun of it later— and if you don’t, then look back on the fun times fondly and move on.

Good luck.

It is fixed, as are map-view scouts. When you come out of it, you’re set to a particular facing which is not necessarily the way you were facing when you started it.

If it’s dev-constructed similar to portals in other games, you put down a box facing your portal then you put down a box at the exit point and the two boxes are linked. The end box has a facing, just as the entry point does. Thus, facing is set when the end point is.

GW2 Holiday Events - Why only 3?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

…SAB was never more than a thorn in my eye draining valuable time from devs to work on the main game. …

Originally, SAB didn’t take away any dev time from the game. It was litterally a side-project one dev did on his own time. They implemented it in game because everyone thought it was cool and fun.

Later, when Anet updated the game, they claimed the update broke parts of SAB. Players requested it so much over two years that they did finally spend some dev time to fix it and give it an update. When it was relaunched, they said they’d make it permanent holiday content— and like other holidays, they wouldn’t be spending any more dev time on it. I’m not a big SAB fan, but I certainly don’t begrudge others who enjoy it.

As for the Bazaar of the Four Winds… I would love to see that return. Sure, the zephyrites are mostly dead or scattered over Dry Top, but they could regroup and rebuild. I don’t know what is holding Anet back on this one. Maybe they’d need to put in a little bit of exposition lore about the zephyrites’ recovery.

Since the zephyrites hosted the fundraising/rebuilding efforts for Lion’s Arch, maybe LA could return the favor?

Home instance upgrades

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

I don’t know if player-placement would work well because of the inter-connectivity of home instances. That is, every character on your account that has “candy corn node” unlocked will have it in a certain (different) place in his/her home instance. So, if a player put the node somewhere convenient in say, DR, then does it wind up stuck inside a wall in the Grove? If you decorate a guild hall, then switch halls, your decorations are still there… but in weird places that sort-of correspond to the space in the previous hall. That said, I would love to be able to arrange stuff where I want it.

Also, love the idea of upgrading the exalted chest. If they did that, people would have a good reason to revisit Tarir.

Kumion.7580

1. I can complete the activity in the festival area but for the many reasons listed above, it is time consuming, expensive, frustrating, and not fun.

2. I can complete the activity outside the festival area— which I prefer to do. It costs snowball bundles, but that’s still cheaper than paying for a dolyak run. I prefer the Akk Wilds area, near the potato farm.

I miss the original way it was done, with snowball-skritt running around. It would also be nice if you could tell if a snowball hit besides having the achievement up to check the counter. Most skritt don’t fall down for a hit. They just stand there.

Furthermore, why do the snowballs even bother having a green target? It doesn’t work. The key is to aim the cursor’s target where you want to hit. You need to completely ignore the green one because ‘throwing’ a snowball at the foot of your target will be a miss every time.

While I like the idea of unlocking runes in a way similar to unlocking skins… Anet would lose a gold sink. They would have to make several changes to leveling rewards and crafting, too. I’m not sure how significant those changes would be, but they may be do-able. It would eliminate a lot of inventory managment and the ongoing fight to make lesser runes/sigils vendor junk.

I don’t think it’s a great idea to offer “talent” boosts for killing 1000 monsters of type X. This would be a power creep and not a horizontal progression. Also, it would favor long-established accounts and leave new accounts far behind a grind-climb. It would also give elitism a boost for grouping: “must have 50k AP, max. masteries, and full talents!” (1/2 j/k)

Welcome back!

As Nemo.5609 said, that’s Norn cultural armor. For steampunk-ish human armor, have a look at the aetherblade stuff. (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aetherblade_armor_)

The state of the meta depends upon several (often subjective) factors. You may want to visit metabattle and peruse the most popular builds to form your opinion. For class specifics, I recommend you visit class specific forums.

From my perspective, consensus has been that neither engineer nor thief is not in a good place atm. There are dissenters, but their elite specs really didn’t get a power-creep like most other classes’ elite specs. Ele is always DPS king, even if their elite spec isn’t all that the player base wanted. Guardian elite spec is good in PvP and they’re pretty versatile for other game modes. Necro elite spec is a lot of fun, IMO.

@Dawdler.8521: Thank you for your point. I forget about how integral rep is to WvW, as I haven’t played that mode in some time.
If Anet “removed” repping from PvE content, they could possibly have you set your guild rep when entering WvW, the way you can set PvP gear/build when you enter the PvP lobby but it seems like a lot of potential work for very little benefit. Perhaps this would be more reasonable/viable if we had functioning build saves.

@Khisanth.2948: It’s true you can enter a GH you are a member of without repping it, but you cannot interact with its services until you do.

Support to take away Guild rep feature!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

Repping is really just a hold-over from a bygone era. Players no longer contribute to the guild they’re representing in everyday play. They can only increase guild favor during guild missions. So, who cares what’s rep’ed on a daily basis, right?

There are some logical considerations…

  • If a player is not engaging with the guild or guild members much, she could be seen as uninterested in the welfare of the guild in general. Therefore, she could be asked to leave in favor of someone who’d be more invested in that guild.
  • If a guild is set up as an R-mode group and it’s not getting enough player support in R-mode then something should change; the guild may take in more R-mode style players to support itself and let go of those who primarily play other modes.
  • Some guilds want a player’s singular guild focus. These leaders are typically against multi-guilding in general. Know what the guild policies are going in.
  • Anet currently uses rep to determine use of guild hall and services. They may be able to make a work-around and give players full access to all halls they are members of. Or, this may be really tough to do and not worth their time.

Obviously, I don’t know what your friend’s background situation is but just because she left this partiuclar guild, doesn’t mean you can’t still play with her, join her in a chat room or even another guild. I hope she finds a more welcoming guild for her playstyle.

Kumion.7580

Biggest negatives: Inventory damage. Please, guys, 10 slots for map stuff? (3 pcs. svanir disguise, sticks, feathers, shiny ice, eggshells, firestone, suet, plus map currency— berries.) That’s half of a max-slot bag. Is all this really necessary just to play in a map?

Waves of mobs. Everything in this map and in the story can be summed up with that. It makes events boring, even with the improved mob AI.

Wasted mastery. I wish I hadn’t spent those points. I would have been just as happy without ever uncovering those abilities. They’re largely pointless, don’t do better damage than my own skills and only have five charges. By the time you need a recharge, you have to defend and re-light the brazier anyway. Utterly useless.

Biggest positives: Aurene stuff. I thought the first part of the story and the aurene interactions were fun. I even liked collecting the region trophies for her home space.

Cool map. It looks great and the rewards feel good. I like the heart merchant offerings, particularly the minis.

Other: Map movement is tiresome. It seems as if very mob chills or slows you and they’re everywhere. The lack of waypoints forces slow travel. Even if it’s not a huge map, it feels cumbersome. Several of the vents could be replaced with bouncing mushrooms and others just work like a very specific teleport to get to a tiny special area. They’re just too limited to be useful for traveling, IMO.

The elixer. Thank you for fixing the bugs. I’m glad it doesn’t cause more inventory damage, but a pop-up message saying it’s applied to your buffs would be good. Also, it is not a 24 hour application. It should not say it is. If someone applied this right before reset, they’ve just wasted a lot of time and effort. You guys could make it a 24 hour buff, like boosters. Why you chose to make it a day-reset is your choice but the buff should kitten well reflect that.

Story. Braham sucks. I dread the necessity of working with him in the future, as I fear he’s going to be completely intractable. I hope this is going somewhere… like a historic lesson of a pyrrhic victory.

Clues for the last boss fight would be good.
