[Suggestion] A new type of MMORPG

Sounds like you might have fun with Defiance.

I’m not sure how much of a cross-over market there is between MMO players and FPS players but your idea does not appeal to me.

You know, you can always build your own guild. If you can’t find the kind of group you’re looking for, create it. Then advertise it on the forums and in-game. Look for others who want the same style of organized, set-schedule group content.

I have to say, it’s a lot of work to arrange and it takes time and effort to recruit like-minded individuals. If you want WvW as a guild, you should make sure they’re all from your server. If not, their time-zone should co-ordinate with yours. As someone else said, if you want to use voice-chat, you’ll be responsible for setting that up as well. Fortunately, this is a good time for it. Many are new or returning to GW2 in preparation for HoT and guild halls and they’re looking for like-minded people, too.

Whatever you decide, good luck. I hope you can find or create what you’re looking for here.

How will other races treat the Sylvari?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kumion.7580

I think it was a bad idea to make Sylvari villains in the story again. I’m not happy they’re being singled out as inherently evil. Some players are taking the story as an excuse to persecute and verbally harass all Sylvari. It’s not a very good way to promote a co-operative game.

You can already hear anti-Sylvari NPC dialogue in the Silverwastes. Beta had more in Verdant Brink. I expect we’ll see progressively more in the new areas. They may add gossiping NPCs to LA temporarily, but they keep NPCs in LA fairly neutral so that it won’t matter what part of the story your character is working on.

Sadly, females get the buttflap on Ascalonian, too.

Your Profession, your opinion.

Kumion.7580

… I would love to hear from you all as to which profession you enjoy the most and why as well as how well you feel your profession fits within the PvE/WvW communities in Guild Wars. …

My favorite class is mesmer. It’s not for everyone, of course, and most people list it as one of the more difficult classes to master. I like the clone/illusion mechanics and shatters and I hear they’re annoying in PvP. I like the unique portals. I love reflection bubbles and time warp in PvE, zergs and dungeons. I like blinking and stealthing when I gather; I’ve also heard these are annoying in PvP. I find it a very versatile class.

For you, though, I would recommend having a good look at Revenant. The legends offer some interesting choices… Dwarf with short ranged hammer, Shiro with double-swords and movement skills, Mallyx with mace/ax and conditions, Ventari with melee staff has super heal utilities, and the elite Herald Glint legend with shield gives awesome party support buffs. Rev damage is in a pretty good place, too.

Good luck!

Choosing a second class help please?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

… Anyways I am trying to find a fun and versatile class for a good mix of range and melee…

First, I think you’re going to love chronomancer elite for mesmer.

Second, ele ice bow is still pretty useful, but the other conjurations are ‘eh’. Eles really shine at ranged, IMO. Even though Tempest elite is designed with more support via warhorn, it’s not for melee either.

Third, ranger’s elite druid spec may give you what you’re looking for. We’ll find out this coming week!

Finally, I recommend you give engineer a try. Engineer kits are quite varied, giving you options of range and melee. Flamethrower kit is especially fun. Bomb kit allows some good melee damage and grenades give you ranged. Engi has some good supportive combos, can stand some toe to toe action or stand back and fire. It’s a lot to learn the weapons, the kits, and the toolbelt skills, plus combos but it’s very engaging. Additionally, the Scrapper elite will have floating drone ‘pets’ which you may find fun.

Analysis of character

Kumion.7580

Your character seems well set. Personally, I would finish off the ascended armor set because it seems you enjoy fractals, which are expanding to L100. Therefore, having full ascended and more agony resist would be beneficial. I believe it would not be a waste at all. Even if you decide to collect legendary armor, it’s going to have the same stats as asc. It’s going to be harder to get and it’s going to drop in raids. The only benefit of legendary over asc armor is the ability to flip the stats at a whim. (You can still change the stats of asc at the mystic forge, but it takes a few mats and won’t keep your runes.)

Anet said the legendary back piece will be very difficult to get. Again, it will have the same stats as asc. Unless you really like flipping builds and stat combos frequently, there’s no real reason to going legendary. You seem solidly set on ’zerk stats, so I would stick to asc.

In your place, I would finish the asc armor. Then, I would work on amassing hero pts. for the new elite spec — if you’re interested in exploring druid. You could also make yourself an asc staff, if you’re interested in druid. It’s hard to tell atm, since druid reveal is next week…

OP, you’re just reading the wrong forum.

You have posted in the HoT forum, in which Anet asked us to discuss forthcoming HoT information and provide our feedback and opinions. I have seen plenty of positives as well as criticism here. I feel absolutely zero shame for providing my opinions.

What you’re looking for is the “Players Helping Players” forum found here:

I also think you should have a more positive outlook. Instead of reading ‘doom and gloom’ or articles with ‘hate’ in the title, look for happier posts or ‘feel good’ news. Stop trying to shame others and just try to set a good example.

Best exp when hot hits?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

boys i ask for best exp per hour becouse i wanna know where to farm mastery points when hot hits.

Are you only asking “boys” because “girls” don’t play MMOs? Know that grown ups of both genders play this game; slightly more are female players according to Anet’s statistics.

As far as we’ve tested in beta, mastery points can only be gained in the areas they exist. If you want gliding mastery or mushroom jumping, for example, you can only increase that by doing things in the jungle. Thus, jungle events will be the fastest way to increase these. You cannot get gliding mastery up by doing map completion in Orr, for example.

Some masteries, like commander auto-looting, were teased but not available in beta so I don’t know if there are special circumstances to increase it. I’m assuming fractal masteries will only increase when doing fractals; we couldn’t test those in beta, either.

Warrior is usually the starter choice because it’s simple. (‘Simple’ compared to learning engi kits, ele’s elements, or mesmer.) Personally, I find warrior boring. Most trait for high damage capacity and use passive utilities. So, it’s just a matter of clicking some weapon skills without a ton of variety. Your mileage may vary.

Because they dont want new players to see this repetitive gameplay as the best way to earn wealth. They want them to experience the full story line and open world pve or other parts of the game.

Oh, come on. Repetitive gameplay is NOT the issue here. Some love it, some hate it. The ones that love it will do it and the ones who hate it won’t. And face it, there’s plenty of repetitive gameplay here to choose from.

The issue is the value of the gamble boxes. Using gameplay to attain them was an okay value for many players. Using cash to attain them never was— so if Anet wants to sell them for cash, something should change.

I still have fortune scraps, found belongings and festival tokens. With the Zephyr Sanctum effectively closed for business and no telling when SAB is coming back, my bank is more a hoarding situation rather than effective storage. …

Fortune scraps are still actively trade-able. There’s a festival vendor in the upper left corner of the LA map. You can also use festival tokens there, zhaitaffy, and candy corn.

Found belongings will never be useful again. They are done.

It would be nice if Anet put a note at the bottom of this stuff, maybe an expiration date?

problem choosing character

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kumion.7580

I found it to be very limited. it can only use a few weapons, and I find the turrets very irritating. its like you have a bunch of minions but none of them move. maybe one day ill try it if I can find a build I can get behind.

That explains a lot. My first engi had turrets and I hated it. Remade one more recently focusing on grenades, bombs, and mostly flamethrower kits. <3 Engi is actually quite flexible if you’re willing to switch kits around and keep trying different things. Have to say, though, flamethrower rocks. Use kits instead of weapons, switch often and learn some combos. You might find this a lot of fun!

If you’re looking to get HoT, I’d recommend Revenant. They do good damage (now), have heavy armor, and are more on the tanky side of things. Not as boring as warrior, not as support-heavy as guardian. I really enjoyed Necro/Reaper in HoT beta, too.

Enjoy and good luck!

Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

I wonder if this planned nerf had something to do with a lack of character slot sales?

Fun is different for everyone. Leveling a character to 10 and than doing the story for a key was quite relaxing and ended with the chance to get something nice after playing about 80 minutes, although most of the times the result was not that exiting. But it was this little kick to have a least the chance to get something nice! What was the problem for Anet? …

I agree with this. Making a key farmer and leveling to 10 helped that alt-itch I’d get, without the commitment of outfitting another L80. If I decided I really liked that key farmer, Anet would sell another character slot. Well, you’ve just put a big spoiler on a chunk of my fun, Anet.

I would never use real money to buy keys, only to wind up disappointed with nasty XP boosts I don’t use that fill up my bank space. I’ll play the game to eventually earn the rewards I want, but I’m not going to throw away cash for uncertain rewards.

Anet just keeps nerfing the ways that players use to attain rewards, forcing them to play ’Anet’s way’, and increasing RNG rewards— or removing them completely! That doesn’t work for me. I’m very disappointed in this change.

Charr -- Can't Get Over How Terrible

As Narrrz pointed out, not everything flows from the holy font that is WoW. >_>; Orcs in folklore go back to Beowulf. Tauren, afaik, are just minotaurs renamed. Minotaurs go back to ancient Greek mythology.

I consider the charr in this game cat-cows. If you want rat men, look to the skritt. It DOES boil down to aesthetics. If you don’t like charr, “ugly midgets” or “Barbie dolls”, then don’t play them! Play a plant-person or hulking humanoid that can turn into a beast if you like that aesthetic better. The game has quite a few customization options; try some.

what is wrong with the event beyond [it being a chore] then? you play how you want, and have fun in a group taking out the enemy. I can’t say i see a real down side to the event, besides people wishing for easier rewards.

The down side is that veterans have seen Anet do far better. We’ve had loads of fun with past events! Most of us expect better quality entertainment from this game, especially after the long drought. This event is a poor showing to new players and prospective HoT buyers alike. For vets, it’s a shame, knowing how much better it could’ve been.

This is the worst PVE event ever for GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kumion.7580

There was a problem with the Scarlet Invasions that was pretty obvious. … Anet noticed this and, most likely, designed the Silverwastes events and other meta events around the idea that you only get rewarded for playing as intended, i.e. completing everything. How do you combat that sort of player behavior while still allowing loot to drop? This solution isn’t perfect but it’s definitely a solution to one behavioral issue. Players still get rewarded at the end of the event … .

It’s true that during Scarlet’s invasion, people began ‘abusing’ the event by ignoring map/event goals and just killing mobs as loot piñatas. Yes, Anet modified SW to avoid those behaviors; there, you get loot based on event completion. I’m okay with that. So why didn’t they use what they learned?? Why not drop awards per event completed? Why not have a culminating teamwork event as a finale? Why not offer some XP and/or karma for new players? Why not set up achievements to strive for?

I think the original karka invading LA event was worse, but this is incredibly bad for a company that should have applied their lessons.

I do NOT want this nonsense extended. It’s a terrible event— grindy and not fun. It certainly doesn’t show GW2 in its best light for new players. It costs players time and money to participate and the existing rewards (IF you get any) aren’t rewarding.

I enjoyed Scarlet’s invasion and many other past events, but if this is what we have to look forward to… it’s not a good future. Let this die and bury it.

Modrem Invasion, Worst content ever made.

Kumion.7580

I think this event is aimed at F2P players and others who are new to the game. The Mordrem melt like chocolate in the back seat on a hot summer day and they are confined to second level zones.

I think they are trying to show some dynamic content and spice things up a bit.

For the sake of argument, say it is aimed solely at new players. What new player has all the waypoints in all three L20 zones, the ability to dps well enough to feel accomplished among a zerg of L80s, the gold to waypoint around the map to participate, and then the extra 10g on top of bloom tokens to purchase rewards? Keep in mind, you get no karma and no XP for these.

Dynamic content is all well and good, but if I was a new player this would make me flee to other maps for a while. I would also have strong doubts about continuing to play a game that encourages such events.

As long as we’re addressing the character screen, can we have some control over lighting adjustment? The last patch with lighting changes made my paler characters’ faces glow bright white and I cannot mitigate this with in-game lighting controls, nor computer desktop graphics settings. A new background would be a good update, too.

Having a set of 10-12 character icons on the “front page” that the player could set would be fantastic. I would like the icons all to stay in one place, frankly. Maybe just a control for sorting: “arrange by creation date” (asc/desc) or “arrange by last played” (asc/desc)?

A crafting symbol on or by the character icon would be nice, too. I know I’m not the only one who has looked at the screen and thought, “Ok, which one is my artificer?”

…There is no way to survive the map alone. …

I disagree. On Reaper and Rev, I could move through most of the map without too much trouble. On Chrono and DD, stealth goes a looooong way toward getting past difficult mobs. It’s also easy to jump off a cliff if you’re in a tough situation; so far, no mobs follow you in flight. I didn’t do much testing of Tempest this weekend and I didn’t try Berserker at all, so I can’t speak for them. However, it is totally possible to survive the map alone if you play smart, especially if you’re just exploring for PoIs or gliding for mastery points.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kumion.7580

I will not be using guardian elite. I enjoy guardian but the elite really crushed my interest in getting … something good for that class. I like playing ranger, but I didn’t want that for my guardian. I barely play my warrior. I find it very passive and uninteresting, so I doubt I’ll bother with berserker.

I will probably add Tempest to my ele for extensive testing in different environments and situations. I can’t say atm whether I’ll use it regularly. I’m definitely equipping Chronomancer on at least 1 mesmer (I love mesmers), Reaper, Daredevil (assuming they clean up dodging), and Herald.

Even the new class and elite specs didn’t call out to me, HoT maps, masteries, raids, and guild halls do.

Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

…To those who played in the beta weekend, do you feel like HoT is shaping up to be a good purchase? I feel like the original game gave me such a good value for my money, does HoT compare?
Is it still fun if you are playing alone? (all of my friends decided against purchasing HoT)….

IMO, HoT is a good purchase. Since you feel the original game was a good value for your entertainment dollars, I’m sure HoT will be more of the same.

I personally like participating in beta and contributing my feedback for how the classes and game structure work well and how they could be improved. I feel like Anet is listening to the player base and responding well to keep everything fun and balanced.

I’m enjoying the structural complexity of the absolutely huge new maps. I like the masteries so far; flying and mushroom jumping are fun alternative ways to get around the map. Yes, the HoT expansion doesn’t have as many maps as the base game, but I expect we’ll see a few more from LS updates with HoT and the new maps are quite a different experience.

I’m enjoying the elite classes as an extension of playstyles to existing ones. Chronomancer is awesome. Revenant has come a long way and it’s very fun now. I adore my Reaper chill build. Daredevil needs some work, but this has been the first test and I trust they’ll fix the dodge animations and make this class great, too. Tempest has given rise to a more supportive, less glass-cannon approach to ele play. I haven’t tried Berserker Warrior, but guildies tell me it’s good. So far, the only one I don’t like is Guardian elite— and not just because of the stupid name. However, some of my guildies have decided to level guardians just because of the elite, so I guess it’s just not to my taste. That’s still 6/7 with two more reveals to look forward to!

So far, I have only explored masteries involved in map mobility, as I feel those were most important. As we get more of the story, I may see the value in frog lore and other things the masteries can offer. The mobility masteries are fun, though, and I feel very motivated to expand them and earn more.

Playing alone might be tough for some players as mobs in HoT lands are more difficult than average. At first, of course, there will be lots of people in the area for help. Beta players were generally helpful with tactics advice and rezing downed players, too. I imagine this will extend to the overall player base upon release. Right now, no one can say for sure how feasible it will be to PUG a raid. I still feel there’s plenty of exploration for a soloist and events can grant you psuedo-group access to areas with truly difficult mobs.

TL;DR — Subjective as it is, I totally think HoT is worth the purchase.

Will I ever be able to use these again?

I read that the color is also migraine-inducing in migraine sufferers. I sincerely hope they change it.

Herald feels like it encourages passive play.

Kumion.7580

I think Rev needs and energy restoration trait to make running facets viable. Yes, the actives are good, but if you’re going to support a group with passive buffs then you can’t fight and sustain your energy. A trait for facet-energy-reduction or a trait for incremental energy restoration would really improve the Rev’s ability to be support-focused as Anet seems to want.

stuck in dodge animation .... not fluid

in Thief

Posted by: Kumion.7580

Kumion.7580

Yep. My biggest problem is how slow it is. Even from a standstill, there’s a slight hesitation before the dodge animation takes effect and ‘he who hesitates is dead’. The dodge is just not taking effect immediately— whether it’s insisting upon finishing long skill casts or just hesitating longer during attacks, I can’t tell. The new animation also seems long. Evasion is supposed to be DD key skill— and it’s currently a liability.

I don’t hate staff, but it certainly doesn’t have the punch that daggers do and it’s slow. It has a lot movement, but the movements don’t feel really purposeful. Staff 2 keeps putting me past my targets without changing my facing, so I lose auto-attack while I reorient. Staff 5 could use a little stability because enemies are knocking me flat out of the air/on arrival.

Also, the big heal is nice, but sooooooo slow to cast. I’m better off taking a smaller heal that I know I will have time to cast before I’m interrupted.

Actually, three.

So I bought GW2 right after it had been released for 40 euros and now I wonder if I have to buy the HoT for cca 45 euros again.

If you want to play HoT content, yes.

Or what is the difference between a player who downloads the core game for free and the player who bought the game in the past ?

Restrictions. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/play-for-free-today/

They both have to pay for HoT if they want to play it, but then I will pay 80 euros for HoT and the newcomer only cca 45 euros. Am I right ?

You are right. However, you had access to the first three years of the game and the opportunity to unlock all the Living Story for free. A new player will have to pay to unlock that— or in some cases, will never see that.

We dedicate Fridays for Fractals (although we play fractals on other nights, too). We do guild missions, puzzles, bounties, etc. on Thurs. and Sat. at reset time. We also have a small group of talented PvPers who are looking to expand. We have access to a private PvP arena for practice, too.

We want people who’re open minded and respectful who’ll settle into our friendly, open-minded guild “home” and stick around and chat with us on TS3. We have helpful, active members throughout the day and evening hours (12-12 EST and PST), seven days a week. We take people from any server and any geographical area, though our primary language is English.

If interested, please contact our guild leader via in-game mail, Peureki.3647 or RosiesRed.1974

Points of Interest Ep. 23 had a hands-on look at areas and the video is on the new HoT website here: http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/game/guildhalls/ Watch at about 29:20.

I’m not sure if this will assuage your fears of “too small” but it may offer more info. for those who want it.

If you love ele, I would recommend thief. Both are squishy. Thief offers a few AoEs with shortbow and some melee multi-targeting with sword or dagger. Both classes have big bursty damage capacity.

I love mesmer but it isn’t typically a high-damage class and doesn’t offer much in way of AoEs (yet, as elite spec will have supportive wells). It has interesting supports and mechanics but it sounds as if you’d be happier with thief.

Thinking of trying guild wars again.

… so how’s necromancer these days? …
… do rangers still suck hard?
what class has the most variety, build options, and playstyles?
which class looks the most interesting and fun with what they are getting in the new expansion?

As others said, necro is good as condi now, bad as minion master. Not as insta-kick as they were, still lower DPS than any other class but they have quite a lot of group support.

Rangers are well-hated as opposition in PvP. They don’t have as many party-support skills as other classes, so they’re less easily accepted in dungeons and such. As with minion-master, pet AI is still bad.

IMO, the most versatile classes are engi and elementalist. Engi kits alone make for a lot of diversity options. Bomb or flamethrower kits allow a more-melee style. Ele, while often a glass cannon, has a lot of options with four elements for weapon skills, tons of combo fields, a lot of group support, and options for ranged or melee. Both classes have a learning curve but are well worth trying.

Mesmer/Chronomancer has been the most fun elite class for me to play in beta. Twisting time rocks. I set up a Necro/Reaper chill build that was fun to play. Reaper animations are very cool and Reaper is much more melee oriented than standard Necro. I’m looking forward to trying Thief/Daredevil this coming weekend; it looks promising!

Edited to add: Engi elite has not yet been revealed, so we don’t know what hammer will bring.
