Believe what you want. First you say “double dagger is useless in dungeons”. You’re the one that brought up Lupicus. I never said it was optimal either, I said it could be done. WvW defending can mean a whole lot more than just sitting on a tower. I’m sorry if you get burst down in 5 seconds, but I rarely do.
Again you’re putting words into my mouth. I never said I use it all the time for every dungeon path or defense. I said I have done it on every path. That doesn’t mean I do it all the time. Reading comprehension much? I also mentioned that if there’s a zerg outside I will switch to staff. Again that whole reading thing. But if there’s only like 10-15 people you bet I will go outside the walls and wreck some havoc with D/D.
Staff you will get picked apart on the walls just as much as going out with d/d. You were assuming good opponents there right? Because they’re not going to let you sit up top and bombard to your heart’s delight either.
When I suggested a Darkness Falls type map it would be just that. Seperate from the actual battlegrounds, and whoever had the most control would gain access to it. Perhaps there could be unique armor in there or whatever. It was just a reason for people to fight over something, but nothing game-breaking like orbs were.
It would be hard to balance though, so it’s probably not something that will get implemented.
Ranks and stuff however would be an easy thing to put in. Throw in some cosmetic rewards and it would be a decent enough reward.
Guardians and Mesmers are really the only classes that can change the outcome of battles in WvW.
this person has a good understanding of the wvw meta.
you are battling for ground in wvw, and there are two methods to get it. short cut with mesmer, or brute force with guardian. you are kidding yourself if you think any other class is as good a pusher as guardian, or better at shortcutting than mesmer.
Elementalist in the right hands is a better pusher than guardian. It’s jut there’s not that many good ones out there.
If tornado was a regular skill then yeah the stability might be worth it. But for an elite skill? It sucks.
I’ve done all bosses and paths with D/D. Just because you can’t doesn’t mean someone else can. I’m not going to go and say it’s optimal for every boss fight but you can do it.
I defend forts all the time with D/D. I dont sit inside or on the walls. I go out, aoe, knock people down. Sure if its a zerg then you sit on the walls with staff, but then you’re not going to do much anyway.
Dont be bad I believe you said.
Where did I say use it 24/7? Try harder.

Second poster is totally wrong about all those things mentioned at the start. WvW, dungeons, and heavy hitter bosses are fine as double dagger. You just have to know what you’re doing and have a good build / gear.
You can’t build glass cannon. You need some hit points / defense. How much is kind of up to you. I am comfortable with around 17k health. Some like more than that.
You NEED 10 into water for conditional removal.
10 into arcane for auras is a huge bonus as well. 20 helps get you extra vigor which is great for dodging.
10 into earth gives you armor of earth which is another good one.
You need at least 2 defensive utility skills imo to go along with d/d for WvW. Dungeons can be whatever depending on how comfortable you feel.
Arcane shield, teleport (can be used both offensively and defensive), mist form (this one is fantastic), are my favorite.
Gear is a mix of Power, Vitality, Condition Damage, Precision, Toughness in roughly that order
You dont want a full build of condition damage, but some mixed in helps a lot. D/D can reliably stack conditions on people enough to where it’s still effect in pvp. Just dont throw it all into condition.
Dungeons your first time start out with staff, then once you learn the dungeon switch to D/D. Learning it as dual dagger is kinda rough. But once you know the dungeon it’s not that bad.
D/D is one of the most complicated classes in the game, but it’s really fun and rewarding once you learn it. Good luck.
Transfers should be every 2-3 days for PvE
Transfers should be locked out of WvW for 1+ week
PvE people are happy, PvP people are happy
There needs to be more rewards for participating in WvW and currently right now there’s not much incentive. Doesn’t have to be instant rewards, but something that people have to look forward to.
Throw in some “Ranks” with armor sets that have a rank emblem on them that look really sweet. People can then pick out “Oh that guy’s a centurion” or whatever.
Leaderboards. Dark Ages of Camelot had a realm point leaderboard, make one for guild wars 2. I could care less, but some people love that sort of thing.
Names or some way of distinguishing your foe more easily.
I think more armor sets in general for pvp’ing would be great. Make them unique and not able to get them from anywhere else.
Make them require a certain number of kills and badges. Not a huge grind, but enough that you have to pvp for a while to get them.
My own personal opinion, but I would love to see small groups vs. zerg having at least a chance. Downed state in pvp, and aoe cap really limit the things you can do to a bigger group. Small groups need a better chance of fighting back against a large force assuming they have better skill.
They could put in a dungeon like Darkness Falls in DaoC although this one usually causes problems with population issues. With free transfers people would probably just transfer to the side that controls it. So they would have some difficult time balancing this one.
I would suggest dagger / dagger or scepter / dagger for leveling. Staff is just awkward most of the time. But that’s my opinion.
Elementalist is one of the harder classes to level. You cant just sit still and push 3 buttons. You have to keep moving, use all your skills, use your attunements. That’s one of the reasons I like it, but many people dont.
The reason people have Arah armor is because they could farm the first boss before it got changed.
Now hardly anyone does Arah explorable mode.
I hope they make some more challenging dungeons but also more fun. Right now most of them are just boring and tedious.
Because of rendering issues. This battleground seems 10x worse than the regular borderlands and it’s not even because of the amount of people usually. Don’t know why, but it’s really annoying trying to fight in EB compared to the others.
SM fights are one thing, I expect there to be issues there. But even in smaller fights at other places the rendering is just horrid.
Corrupted by far
As someone else said, a cheap substitute at night time is the Ascalonian Daggers
Elementalists are great for dungeons, good survivability (providing you have some skill) and good damage. They’re also 10x more fun to play imo.
But more survivability than a Guardian? Not even close.
If you scare them off to go heal, then you win.
If you stand around waiting for him to open up on you again. You lose.
I’m not saying run as soon as a thief vanishes, but you need to be actively moving and dropping aoes. Or make sure you get yourself out of combat as well to heal up while looking for the thief.
If by some miracle they do happen to fix the render bug for thieves, then they will be MUCH less harder to chase down. As it is now though it’s kind of a nightmare because you have to spam tab target to even target them most of the time, let alone see which way they stealthed.
Some condition damage is good.
Throwing ALL your damage into condition is bad.
As someone else said you can reliably throw burns on people pretty easily with d/d. They’re not going to be able to cleanse everything. However if you solely depend on condition damage you’re going to get owned. You need a mix.
D / D is one of the best, if not the best dueling class in the game. You have to have the right build for it though and the right equipment.
If you got rid of condition removal, then yeah that would explain why you died heh. I could never pvp without at least 10 points into water. It’s absolutely required imo.
D/D doesn’t have the burst of a thief / warrior, but they dont have your ability to sustain either. Nor do they have your wide array of knockdowns, heals, etc.
Just saw you already had 20 in water, I’m not sure what the problem is. He stacks bleeds on you, you switch to water and all that damage is instantly gone. It sounds like you need more hitpoints / defense to begin with.
If a thief resets the fight, the biggest mistake people make is standing around waiting for the thief to open back up on you. Drop some aoes if you want to search for them, but get the heck out of there. Dont stand around waiting for him to heal back up.
(edited by Kuthos.9623)
I’m honestly not surprised to see people complain about D/D.
In WvW, my tanky D/D ele can take just about anyone 1v1…including glass cannon backstab thieves. She can even do most 2v1’s…depending on the players of course. Even in sPvP, I don’t think I’ve ever been beaten 1v1 with D/D.
It is a very powerful and versatile spec that is just good in all aspects. Extremely survivable, TONS of CC, and fairly respectable damage with your fire skill chain, and churning earth + lightning flash.
D/D Ele is the only class I know of that can literally run into a huge zerg in WvW, do tons of damage, and emerge alive like 80% of the time.
This.
I’m 20 / 10 / 10 / 10 / 20, never specc’d 30 into arcane and I do fine. I also do quite a bit of damage. Sure it’s not thief / warrior burst but I’ve turned the tide of group fights before and I have survivability / sustain.
However, when I first started out I also ran 3 defensive utility skills. Arcane shield, mist form and teleport. Now that I’m much more experienced I’ve swapped out arcane shield for arcave wave for more offense. I still run mist form and teleport for the other two.
Never had a problem with a thief spamming 3, if they do that they’ll run out of initiative.
Mist form is great vs. thiefs. They start to unload on you, pop mist form. Swift to lightning when you get out. Updraft, fire combo, earth combo, water if you need to heal etc. As one of the other people said there’s no real set combo, you need to adjust as needed. Having a base health set of 16k-17k will really help you against thieves though.
This again?
You know what happened the first time I went into AC? I got one shot. By traps. By Lt. Kohler, whatever. But I didn’t come on the forums and whine about it. I stopped going into dungeons with my 12k hitpoints. I took time to work on my gear and get myself up to about 16k.
YOU clearly didn t even read a word on this thread……yet posting here L"P you exactly prove the superficiality of some players behavior….
2 things here
16.000 HP in ac with an ele? great tell us your secret, you probably have 32.000 HP in lvl 80 areas XDAlso are you telling us that you must be a lvl 80 geared player to face a lvl 40 dungeon?
EXACTLY what i said …..AC EXPLORABLE doesn’t mean first dungeon. AC story mode does.
pre patch (dunno if something changed) story was even harder for DD ele…..being oneshot by rangers didn t give you much room for “skill”. (obviously a norrmal lvl 35…. i know that i can tank and burn whole rooms at 80)
Lt. Kohler is an example of a great boss mechanic, he has a clear sign of when he’s going to pull you in. If you don’t avoid it, you get punished.
Another proof you didn t read a word…..
Its easy if you are fighting LT ALONE …….
That suggests also you use one of those skillfull tactics (aka AI abuse)I will say again, you people whining on the forums about the easiest dungeon are the type of players who walk into the dungeon, get owned, and then cry foul.
No you are just one short sighted player….that cannot even understand AC is more difficult than HOTW and some CoF paths….but also TA……just to tell some….
I’m an elementalist btw, which is one of the squishiest characters in the game, AND I do dungeons as double dagger which puts you in melee range most of the time.
and again if you did read a single sentence you would have understood i use an ele DD too and that i can TANK at lvl 80…
16k as a level 80. I dont remember what hp that translates into as a level 35. Aka it means build some hit points, stop going full glass cannon when you’re learning dungeons if you don’t want to get one shot constantly.
I never said you had to be level 80 to do AC explorable mode. I’ve done it on a level 35 alt with green armor. Try again.
The point of the Lt. Kohler fight is to kill the adds quickly. They don’t have that much hit points so you burn them down and then he’s alone. Are you really ignoring the adds and fighting him the entire time with two adds up? If so, no wonder you fail. And no, I dont use the cheesy method to pull him solo. We fight him up in the room with the adds.
More proof that you’re just whining and refuse to adapt to a dungeon that really isn’t that hard. You’re whining about AC of all dungeons. lol
Downed state is ridiculous for the side with larger numbers.
AE cap of 5 is ridiculous for the side with larger numbers.
The game’s basic mechanics already favors a zerg of casuals, the two mechanics above just make it silly.
This. Even if you removed ONE of the above, I believe it would radically alter the zerg force. Getting rid of downed state would allow you to pick people off and shrink the size of the other force. Having unlimited aoes would allow smaller groups to engage bigger forces and not have it be an auto loss.
It’s lame and a little disappointing that I can go into the middle of a group of 20 people, down 5 of them (when I should be able to hit anyone who was within range), barely escape with my life only to see them revived in an instant.
There’s no fear of organized groups because you can’t do 10vs30 (unless the 30 are REALLY bad and you managed to spread them all out) because of sheer numbers.
(edited by Kuthos.9623)
I thought it was awesome, laughed for a good 15 minutes the first time we did it. I still laugh quite a bit when watching pugs do it.
You can even cheese it with certain classes that have teleports and such so people that can’t do it have ways around it.
The good thing they did here is only requiring 3 people to get across. Things like CoF where you need all 5 torches at once is just kinda lame. The whole group shouldn’t be punished for 1 or 2 people screwing up on an “event” and not even a boss fight.
Against bad opponents sure maybe you can do some okay dps with the sword. But as soon as someone turns on you, you’re dead.
Not being able to switch elements in pvp to use all your skills is a deathwish. Sure you can kill noobs that don’t know any better, but as soon as you run into people who don’t run at first sight of a fiery sword you’re in trouble.
I would love for tornado and fiery sword to be effective, but they just aren’t in 90% of pvp / wvw situations. If you’re running with a zerg then sure you can get away with using it maybe. But while you’re doing that I’m in the middle of 10 people knocking them down, doing dps, and causing much more chaos than a great sword can simply because I can switch elements.
I find every single other class boring after playing Ele as a D/D, even though I have a lower survivability (not really, but hard to accomplish), lower damage output and horrible bugs..
Although I disagree with lower damage output I agree with every other class is boring compared to Ele. I wish other classes flowed as smoothly as elementalist due between attunements. Whoever made the dagger skills did an excellent job.
If they ever truly nerfed elementalist though I would probably quit. I’ve tried other classes but they’re just nowhere near as fun.
good to quote random sentences from devs..
They stated earlier…….but then after tests….
They noticed dungeon are a mess and they are working on them to be make them fun… (already did lot of changes afaik)
Some of them are obviously rushed…and they noticed….
They are doing a good job on this game, but do not pretend this game is flawless hiding behing L"P because you are only damaging the community for some selfish reasons……
Again this told by a full geared player that can play dungeons often without dying…
@kuthos…do you know why i did gave up at first? cbecause my light low hp class got one shot by most random elites….even ranged making dungeons impossible for me….
And trust me NO PLAYER could do better than that in same situation…..Being oneshot by ranged mobs means you cannot do anything….
You can see for yourself so many design flaws in dungeons you shouldn t even discuss..
lets look at CoF, you see a boss with regen crystals, you plan a strategy to get some members on crystals, the boss regen too fast….
You focus the whole group on the boss…… it dies fast :|
CM boss with a bbreath effect hits you almost behind him…..(oneshotting anyone not exo geared and i have a gaming connection+a top PC).
LT oneshot you unless you evade flawlessly his attack, that is quite doable UNLESS you are facing his minions……
But again remember that its the FIRST dungeon….
CM story robot -.- lol at oneshottng warrior…..try an ele….and you cannot evade so much.
It can be said that ANY dungeon with a planned team of given professsions and specs becomes doable even at lower level…
But doing so the chance to being able to form a group at lvl <80 becomes impossible…..saving the same excuse used by most:
ALTs full gold geared etc etc etc..
The point is: i think anet is doing a good job and they are noticing dungeon issues already…(and they fixed some already)
But plz stop this LTP nonsense, that imho just hurts the community only to boost your ego or something like that…….
This again?
You know what happened the first time I went into AC? I got one shot. By traps. By Lt. Kohler, whatever. But I didn’t come on the forums and whine about it. I stopped going into dungeons with my 12k hitpoints. I took time to work on my gear and get myself up to about 16k. After I had enough defense to survive most hits I started learning the dungeons and they became easy. This is before I had full exotics as well.
AC EXPLORABLE doesn’t mean first dungeon. AC story mode does. Just because you’re down leveled further does not mean it’s suppose to be the “easy” one, and yet…ironically enough it is. Which is why I find it even more strange you’re complaining about AC of all dungeons.
Lt. Kohler is an example of a great boss mechanic, he has a clear sign of when he’s going to pull you in. If you don’t avoid it, you get punished. Sure it takes you a couple tries to learn it, but that’s a good thing. It’s a little harder with the adds, but hardly impossible.
I will say again, you people whining on the forums about the easiest dungeon are the type of players who walk into the dungeon, get owned, and then cry foul. Take the time to learn a build, learn your class, and stop expecting everything to be given to you for no effort. It’s suppose to be the HARDEST content in the game. Try putting a little effort into. Sheeesh.
I’m an elementalist btw, which is one of the squishiest characters in the game, AND I do dungeons as double dagger which puts you in melee range most of the time.
You mean flame sword and tornado are great against horrible opponents?
Try those against anyone decent and you’ll be dead shortly. They’re both worthless.
Elemental is “okay” but doesn’t really seem like an elite skill in pvp. For pve its fine. I’d rather have another utility skill than the elites we have for pvp.
The devs stated earlier on that dungeons in explorable mode were going to be the hardest content in the game, challenging “most” groups. It was built around the idea that people at 80 are going to be doing these dungeons. That doesn’t mean you can’t do them before that, it just means that it’s that much harder.
These dungeons are far from hard after you learn the mechanics after 1-2 runs. There are very few fights (such as Subject Alpha) which really challenge you the entire fight.
Casual does not equal BAD. I know plenty of casual gamers who are good at their classes and get through dungeons fine.
You guys dont even remember back in WoW when heroics first came out. People wiped over….and over….and over again. They weren’t easy mode like they were in Lich King. And you know what? It was fun, because it was a challenge. People are so whiny these days they want to go in on their first try and faceroll everything.
Ugh.
“Angry Loner” is a perfect example. You go in, you get wiped and then you give up. You dont go back in, try something different, and learn the dungeon. You just give up, come to the forums and say “it’s toooooooooooo hard” nerf it!
This would benefit every single class. There’s no reason this shouldn’t be put in.
Elementalist you can rock just about any 1v1 as dagger / dagger.
Sieges you can use staff for aoe damage and heals.
It’s one of the most versatile classes for pvp. However, it is the highest skill cap class in the game. Avoid it if you don’t want to spend all your time learning the in’s and out’s of the class and get it mastered.
Mesmer is great support and also good at dueling, but not quite as mobile as I’d like.
Thief is good at “annoying” people and picking off people from the pack, but not that great in team fights.
If you don’t have the time to practice dungeons or get better at them, then they’re probably not for you. If you’re that limited on time, then there are plenty of other things to do in this game that don’t require as much time and effort.
It’s always the case of “I don’t have enough time” or “I can’t do this” when plenty of people find the time and effort to do it. Not everything should be handed to you on a silver platter in video games.
There’s people like this in every MMO. It’s just the nature of the beast.
Toughness armor does you zero good if you have like 12k hit points to begin with.
As an elementalist in dungeons it’s key to be switch elements constantly unless you know the dungeon well and are with a good group.
You can get exotics from outside dungeons. Trading post, karma, crafting. They’re “suppose” to be the hardest content in the game.
lol at reporting people who say you need a good group
So you should be able to walk into a dungeon with terrible players who have terrible gear and just automatically win?
This is the type of player that ruins games. People give you suggestions and you just whine some more about how hard everything is. Play a warrior if elementalist is too hard for you.
Ascalonian Catacombs is faceroll easy once you do it a couple times. You’re doing something wrong…..
Events dont need to be severely difficult, they do however need to scale much better than they currently do
As it is now, with 8-10 people, or 20+ for the big events you just zerg through it and just mash buttons
The big dragon fights are actually a lot more fun with a small group of people, it feels more epic
The more people you have though the worse things scale, and it just ends up being a faceroll
Clocktower 10/10
Scavenger Hunt – Not really my thing, so I can’t really score it that well
Rumble – Eh, it was okay 5/10
Inquisition – 8/10 pretty fun
Costume Brawl – Thought it was going to be an arena game type thing, not just an open free for all. 4/10
Mood and settings, decorations – 10/10
Mad King Thorn dungeon – 7 / 10
Way they handled the black chests, rare skins – 2/10
Ending event – 3/10 was kind of a let down at the end
Overall it was probably around a 6 or 7 for me
Not disappointing, but not overly super awesome either
For a first event it’s a decent enough start
I would totally switch out our elite skill for one of the other utility skills. That says something about our choice of elite skills :\
Lackluster PVE content devoid of any sort of challenge or skill requirement- FIX PLS

I’d love some more hard mode stuff, but even I’m fine if the stuff is somewhat easy. I would say more “Subject Alpha”. First few times you fight him he’s hard. Then once you learn it, it becomes easy.
Where they screwed up with subject alpha is he’s in all 3 paths. It just becomes tedious fighting him every single time (since really not that much changes between paths).
But I also agree that dungeons right now are just not fun to repeat. There are maybe 3 or 4 fights out of the entire set of dungeon bosses that I actually enjoy. Maybe even 2 or 3.
The mechanics are mostly dull, and a lot of it is just kite around and dps. How about entirely new sets of abilities just for one boss fight? And I don’t mean get on a cannon and spam #1 till the boss dies…..
They’ve shown their ability to create abilities when you morph into something, throw that into a boss fight. For instance (although everyone would probably hate this example) the Occulus in WoW. You chose a dragon. Have 5 portals to choose, and everyone chooses a different “hero” or “ability set” and then you fight the boss. Everyone could then swap the next time, and each time you do it you can be a different hero or whatever.
Most of the bosses are hardly dangerous, and you really dont have to pay that much attention. They’re just giant hitpoint sponges that take forever to be dps’d down. Fights need to be intense for like 3-5 minutes at maximum. These 10+ minute fights (often made longer by bugs) where the mechanics are really boring just get old.
How do you build specifically around conjure weapons? Imo they’re mostly worthless, but if you figured out a way to make it work, I’d be interested to hear how just out of curiousity. I just don’t see how you could make a build based off them as you lose the rest of your abilities when using a conjured weapon.
While I’d love to have some more boon duration, Runes of Earth are a lifesaver. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been under 20% health and escaped because of it. Highly reccomend it.
While you can’t get away with full glass cannon d/d build, I dont believe you have to go full on tankiness build like he does either.
I run about 17.5k health and do well enough. It’s offensive enough that I feel I can burst people down, but defensive enough that I can get away from a lot of things.
While he probably has a better time in 1v2 and 1v3, with a little more offense build you can turn the tide of group fights by teleporting into the middle of them and letting loose a whole bunch of aoes, then zipping out.
The water elemental heals for that much? I may have to test it again. Or maybe I’m just not close enough to it. Seemed like it never healed me at all so I went back to using the fire elemental.
Anyways, good video
Still even using it as a damaging attack I had problems with it going into the ground. Was just annoying to use, but I must have a habit of having my camera in a top down view most of the time so I guess that’s the problem.
So you have to even out your camera each time you want to aim it, ugh that’s kinda of awkward……
They should have just made it go straight forward instead.
Ah well, thanks for the info
Disagree with the above, because the reason is you lose your ability to switch between elements. Without that you’re going to get owned. You won’t be able to remove conditions, you won’t be able to crowd control, nothing. You’re just mediocre dps. Any decent player in pvp will just flat out own you with a fiery sword. If it did more dps than maybe it’d be worth using.
And no I dont use a glass cannon build.
Fiery greatsword is a deathwish. You will get owned in pvp AND pve for using it most of the time. Especially pvp.
Elemental is really the only one worth using. It’s great for pve, but pretty lacking for pvp. Fire is “okay” for damage, but not that great really compared to say thieves guild.
Okay so I’m playing my guardian alt and trying to use this ability to heal people with staff.
The stupid thing keeps going straight into the ground. Is there a special way to aim this or am I doing it wrong somehow? I have ground targeting turned off, does that make a difference?
Was a fun video to watch, even if you do outgear some of those opponents you did some impressive 2v1 and even 3v1 at times.
Multi opponent fights in this game are extremely hard because of downed state.
What are you armor / jewelry / weapon stats out of curiousity?
Also it’s good to see you leave in mistakes and such, or bad moments where you get run over by lots of opponents. Shows real gameplay, rather than edited footage to just show off “special case” scenarios.
Dyes look horribly faded and off color on this armor. Makes it really hard to match it with something else if you dont want to wear the full set.

Ah solo queue makes sense.
Well you do a good job with scepter, I just don’t like it all that much.
Have you ran into a guardian build that puts out pretty decent dps but has crazy healing? I’m not sure what build it is, I’ve been trying ot figure it out. It’s the one time I’ve been beaten by a guardian. I’d get them down to below 20% health numerous times and they just heal back up to full it seems like.
Granted it was WvW so I can just run away easily enough, but I was curious if if you had experienced a build like that from guardians.

You do a pretty good job but…..
your opponents were mostly horrible. Too many backpeddlers and people who dont know what they’re doing.
Or quite the opposite way – when you eventually get bored of pressing 2-3 keys on other classes, you roll elementalist
This.
I’m having a really hard time trying to level up an alt because other classes seem sooooo boring and dull after elementalist.
I started off warrior, got to 65 before I got sick of it. Went to elementalist and have never looked back.
It’s kind of hilarious to me. I fought the same guy 4 times in a borderlands earlier this week and every single time he alt f4’d out. I think he was too embarrassed that I kept killing him 1v1. On about the third fight, he would get down to about half health and then just instantly hit alt f4 ahaha.
