staff-ele has never changed

what is this, gw2 version of historical revisionism ?
staff ele had his healing and damage coefficient tweaked multiple times, fire 4 range was increased and evasion frames were added, earth 4 used to cripple, the untraited radius of aoes was smaller and lastly some traits were moved around (i can remember arcane attunement minor 1 and blasting staff major 2)

The only maps where you can take full advantage of your superior range are legacy of the foefire and temple of the silent storm, even then you are still bothered by line of sight most of the times and in legacy there are basically no places that are safe from thieves (except those ninja ledges behind waterfall that helseth uses so often).
Battle of khylo is a 50/50 situation, sometimes the enemies have no ground-targeted teleports and you rain death from above all game long, sometimes you get jumped and downed outside of res range.

Aaaand spirit ranger has something to offer that no one else has, the spirit elite, it is arguable how reliable it is in its current state, still the combination of hps+cleanse+ress offered by spirit of nature is something unique to spirit rangers.

By using free download manager i usually reach more than 1mbps of download speed with peaks of 2mbps, however the launcher seems way slower downloading at a stable 300kbps, is there any way i can download the game directly without having to rely on the launcher ?

Thank you guys for your insight on the matter, so correct me if I’m wrong valkyrie/knight is the right set to learn a dungeon, berserker is the right set after you mastered it and/or if you are doing dungeons in an organized berserker group.
Is there much difference between the two sets in terms of damage ? I don’t want to end up slowing down my team but starting with berserker right off the bat is a bit intimidating lol.

Hello everyone I am trying to get into dungeoning but I am not quite sure what armor i should bring with me.
I have 4 different level 80 characters , it would be much appreciated if you could tell me how to properly gear them to run dungeons, they are thief (my main), warrior, guardian and elementalist.
My idea was to use knight armor + berserker jewels + valkirye weapons on all of them but maybe there are more optimal solutions.
Any idea ?

I am all for different levels of challenge (i am one of those players who enjoyed trying a bazillion times to complete the nightemare tower when it first came out) but core contents such as living story updates shouldn’t be gated, everyone should be given a fair chance to enjoy a main feature of guild wars 2.

I think a good way to deal with this issue could be to introduce a jumping puzzle next to a ladder, if you climb the ladder you quickly get to dry top, if you complete the jumping puzzle you get an achievement to reward your efforts.

Any thoughts on this idea ?

From my experience turrets are annoying to berserker amulet users or builds with reliance on line of sight, they are also problematic to deal with for condition builds as turrets are immune to conditions.
Ironically i find the best way to get rid of all those nasty turrets is a hambow warrior.

tooltips round to the nearest 1/4 a second, so if you have 1.99s of burning it is only going to hit one time even though the tool tip says 2s.

“While the actual duration of a condition is never rounded, the display in a skill’s tooltip will show the duration rounded to the nearest quarter of a second (0s, ¼, ½, ¾ and 1s). Conditions which inflict damage over time (bleeding, burning, torment and poison) only deal damage each full second.”

You wish, too bad in the mists i actually tested my burning and it ticked twice.
Inside a game the tooltip reverts from 2s to 1.75s and the burning only ticks once.
The same is true for every condition duration sigil.

Edit: and even after 3 hotfixes since the patch sigils are STILL bugged.

SPVP sigils malfunctioning

Sigil of agony, sigil of smoldering, sigil of chilling, sigil of debility and sigil of hobbling lose their 20% duration bonus after you join a game.

This applies to both custom rooms and ranked games, the bonus duration only seems to apply while you are in the heart of the mists.

Furthermore, sigil of blood doesn’t work at all, the life stealing effect never procs, neither the damage part nor the healing part.

I hope for a quick fix since a lot of builds are heavily hindered by these sigil bugs.

0 10 0 30 30 d/d eles usually use frost armor and switch to earth when they need to take a punishment, this trait seems useful in such scenarios but the problem is that it would require giving up 30 arcana, losing protection on attunement as well as evasive arcana (and fury). I don’ t really see any usage for this trait.

Let’s take this to the next level:

-2 condition warriors battling it out on the mid point of forest of nifel without utilities and elites, only weapon skills allowed.

-The 2 warriors can choose 4 professions to get support from:

warrior -> 1 stendard (must be decided before the fight begins)
elementalist -> soothing mist
necromancer -> putrid mark
engineer -> elixir s
guardian -> virtue of resolve
thief -> 1 venom (must be decided before the fight begins)
mesmer -> 1 mantra (must be decided before the fight begins)
ranger -> 1 spirit (must be decided before the fight begins)
(maybe ban skelk venom and healing mantra ?)

The 4 supporters must stand on the edges of the central point and can not join the fight in any other way than the one stated above. A judge should spectate the fight to make sure that no one cheats.

It is likely that the numbers could use some tweaking, like for example to make things balanced thieves and rangers get to use 2 utilities instead of just 1, but i have a feeling such duels would be cool.

We could call this format “all for one” and there could be fan made leaderboards to keep track of the best all for one fighters.

With that in mind, what rewards would you like to see for a pvp league structure based on player categories who would be motivated by those rewards at different tiers?

to cater to the top players
- I believe every X season a tournament between the top X teams in the highest division should be organized by arenanet to cater to the top players.

- I believe a real life event organized somewhere (maybe in sidney, i heard anet headquarter is in sidney) where the audience can see the players in person would get way more hype and advertisement than a competition watched through streaming.

- I’m going to copy this idea from a popular moba game: you could sell tickets to see the event live and then a % of the income could contribute to the prize pool.

to cater to the competitive casuals
-guaranteed reward: at the end of the season every player who took part in at least X games gets Y useful crafting materials, maybe also an achievement ?

-based on placement and division: at the end of the season you could get a different armor piece depending on your position (like bottom 10% gets only the gloves, the next 10% gloves and boots and son on).
Additionally, the top X players of each divisions could get a division based amount of gems

-based on season: I feel the things to play around with are achievements, particle effect colours and/or armor skins.

things to think about
-If the armor model remains the same from season to season players who ranked low in season 3 can still complete the set during season 4.
-If it changes it could be an extra motivation for players to rank in the top X% of their division to complete the different sets.
-If the particle color changes from season to season that could be enough of a motivation.
-But the particle color could also change from division to division.
-Achievement could be based solely on division to keep the consistent through time.
-Or they could also be based on season to allow players to earn new ones as they continue competing.

What type of structure would you find interesting for leagues and ladders?

Something similar to the way Starcraft runs it’s system. Players get placed into divisions (Bronze/Rabbit, Silver/Dolyak, Gold/Wolf, Masters/Phoenix, etc) based on their skill level with placement matches at the start of the season and then they battle it out for top spots in their divisions and to move up throughout the course of the season.

How long should a season last?

2-3 months seems like a good number.

What would motivate you to play in one?

Ability to attain skins and/or other always visible vanity items (not finishers) only attainable through this system

What types of rewards would you like to see?

How would a player earn these rewards?

Different rewards for placing in different divisions at the end of the season. Extra rewards for players in the top X% at the end of the season.

How would you encourage players of all skill levels to participate?

Guarantee end of season rewards for players that participated enough in this system (meta achievement?)

Profession based ranks for accounts. Every profession on an account gets ranked separately. This way, when Johnny is trying out his Guardian for the first time, he is ranked differently than his 90% ranked Thief. When he deletes his Guardian and makes a new one 2 months later, he doesn’t get to start over because it’s per profession on the account.

I like this idea. I feel it would help to encourage new players to try new classes without worrying about their rating falling through the floor.

if YOU get ranked with low ranks (and yours was the only higher rank) it is only your fault.
It means that you are a bad player, that you farmed rank points on skyhammer and that you deserve to be ranked with deers and rabbits.
The system is rating based, not rank based.

After a considerable amount of time spent in the field i can attest that rare occurences of the specimen can be observed roaming around in small groups in the higher half of the leaderboard.

This seems to suggest the existance of a connection between the complex gameplay habits of the specimen, its undeniable rarity and the place of sighting.

I understand that you are not a native english speaker but this particular sentence just awoke my inner grammar kitten.

Worse is the comparative form of bad and it should only be used when making comparisons between two specific subjects. Example: “berserker engineers are worse than berserker thieves”.

When you want to say that something is worse than everything else you need to use the superlative form of bad which is worst. Example: “mainhand sword is the worst weapon EVAH1!11!!!”.

Also, adding the suffix “ed” to worse does’t make any sense.

What are you talking about infantrydiv, do you even know what balanced mean ?
Guardians can offer team support and take massive punishment with a bunker build OR dish out an acceptable amount of damage with a meditation build.
Both builds are killable in 1v1, both builds renounce to something to get something else.
Things like hard counters or thieves locking out every other berserker build from the game are unbalanced.

I have indeed been CC’d to oblivion on many occassions not only on Skyhammer but many other maps, and I have managed to handle those situations fairly well,

I am strongly positive that you have been cc’d to lesser extents than what i am referring to.

but I get the impression you feel that my enthusiasm for the adaptation would diminish somewhat if were to play against you?

I am of the opinion that you wouldn’t be so cheerish about a map that promotes knocking down players if you had spent a whole match or two being knocked down from such map, as in “combustible lemons are awesome, although i never tried one”.
I also believe that i could give you a pretty good idea of how rough skyhammer can be.

i can confirm that blind only prevents the next hit from connecting, not the whole attack.

example: only 1 arrow from rapid fire misses, not the whole rapid fire attack

I have really enjoyed this series, especially watching the d/p thief build play as I play this myself, I am however hopping you might try s/p at some point just so i can see how a good player actually does it ;P !! ( I generally fail with it.)

I am in a condition quite opposite to yours xD I’m trying to move away from sword/pistol to dagger/pistol but i can’t get the hang of it.
It was nice to see how sensotix played his thief, it gave me some good ideas !
