meditation guardians, berserker amulet 0 10 30 0 30 warriors, other eles, conditionmancers , thieves, mesmers and engineers all are within my 1hko range.
golden targets are necromancers and engineers but sometimes i also get the occasional instagib on thieves that larcenous strike instead of autoattack + dodge
On that note, one bug I’d like to see fixed is that the range mobility skills is affected by swiftness/quickness. Quickness causes the range of these skills to be extra short and to often miss (especially Earthshaker) while swiftness allows them to reach far beyond their normal max range.
Trust me you don’ t want to get that fixed, think about heartseeker not being affected by chill and crippled…

As a warrior you can also do it for bladetrail.
Good thieves used to do it for c&d since you had to precast it into steal.
Also, thieves don’ t get a 3s cd for canceling stuff unlike other classes.

5 2 switch air 2 3 5 switch fire 3 wave blast
the phoenix, the arcane wave and the arcane blast benefit a total of 70% damage bost without taking into account crit damage, it’ s just crazy lol

A. Thieves are not the best argument against this build.. Running double arcane shield, invuln from the focus, and the ability to one shot a thief makes it hold its own vs such a strat, provided the players are at equal skill levels. D/P is more of a problem though there’s still ways of dealing with it.
B. 10 in arcane seems fairly mandatory.. Am I right?
A. Yeah, I’ll down the thief the first or second time because he’s overconfident and overextends. But after that, the thief knows to open up w/ backstab then he shadowsteps out and ports back in a few seconds later (again stealthed). In a duel-situation, I think the ele fares pretty well against both S/D and D/P thieves. But realistically, when I’m in a group fight, it’s pretty easy for a thief to pop out of stealth for a quick backstab, then shadowstep out or withdraw + dodge away (thus avoiding the one-shot). At that point, I can either run away (thus being forced out of the fight), or stay (and die ~10 seconds later to the next backstab). Moreover, just the knowledge that there’s a thief around will often force me to hold back on my burst skills because I want to be ready to nail the thief as soon as he appears. This means I’m not contributing as much to my team.
B. I don’t know if 10 in arcana is mandatory, but the benefits of taking at least 10 in arcana seem to outweigh the costs in almost every situation I can think of. I’m open to suggestions, though, if the OP would like to elaborate.
Well mine is far from the “main” GC build, just something i came up with.
I liked the idea to combo scholar runes with the extra damage from that water trait whose name i don’ t remember.
Probably last shielding from arcane would be more useful for such a squishy build.
My problem with glass ele is that i can’ t find a suitable role during ranked games. I am too slow to roam and too squishy to stay into a fight, i find myself hiding somewhere most of the time and getting the occasional 1hko combo on other frail targets.
What do you think should a glass cannon ele do during a team fight ?

Not talking about 30 air 30 arcane s/d fresh air eles, I’ m talking about glass cannon 30 30 0 10 0 s/f eles.
+ very high damage on downed enemies
+ sinergizes well with longbow warriors
+ sinergizes well with staff guardians
+ sinergizes well with mesmers
+ 4 more seconds of invulnerability thanks to earth 5
+ an extra cleanse and projectile reflect thanks to earth 4
- very weak to sustained focused damage
- can’ t disengage as easily as thieves
- quite slower than the s/d counterpart
- very squishy when caught with his cd off.
To me it is a yes but i’ d like to hear the opinion of other pvpers out there.

Virtually nothing is known of their physiology, culture, or history, only that they were last on continental Tyria around 10,000 BE, and that, according to the Durmand Priory, they became extinct during the Elder Dragons’ previous rise.

Last member of a long forgotten race, he is the strongest corrupted servant of zhaitan and awaits those who are reckless enough to venture into the city of the gods.
Guardian of the Grand Temple Of The Pantheon within the walls of arah he is capable of dealing insane amounts of damage over short periods of time and istantly kill anyone who isn’ t prepared to deal with him. It is possible to counterplay the giganticus lupicus before he becomes unstoppable but even one mistake, even one stack of empowered, and his damage will top that of the cannon that brought down zhaitan.
Powers And Abilities
Protecting arah makes him one of the bodyguard of zhaitan, as such he can rely on many different tools to remind challengers the true power of zhaitan’ s corruption.
1)Empowered: unlike the risen priest of balthazar he isn’ t defended by the extra sturdyness of the rampage trasformation, he, however, makes up for what he lacks in defense with huge sheer power. Over the course of the fight he is able to summon and eat risen grubs gaining one stack of empowered each time he is able to do so. A single stack of empowered roughly doubles his damage output and if left unchecked this ability can boost the lupicus’ damage to EXTREMELY high levels.
2)Locusts: just like the risen priest of balthazar can summon acolyts the giganticus lupicus can summon risen locusts that swarm around enemies and deal moderate but persistent damage over time until killed.
3) Moderately strong meele abilities: while not as insanely strong in close range as the risen priest of balthazar the lupicus is still able to hold is own due to a mix of kicks and claw attacks.
4) strong dark magic user: the lupicus has acces to a very strong kind of dark magic that allows him to rival the wells of the risen priest. (although one or two stacks of empowered may be needed to surpass the damage of a single well of suffering). The lupicus can throw single necrotic bolts for medium damage or chain them into barrages for high aoe damage. After reaching low health he can also heal himself with a spell akin to the risen priest’ s life syphon and trap enemies within domes of dark energy that deal moderate damage over the course of 5 seconds.
5) Elusivity: last but not least the lupicus is made more threatening by his peculiarity to have short evade frames during most of his dark magic abilities. It doesn’ t seem to be 100% reliable but it still has to be kept into account.

Fight Conditions
Well you know how this stuff works, you have to picture a fight under 3 different scenarios favoring one or the other of the two contendant.
First fight takes place into the cathedral of glorius victory, the lupicus has 10 minutes to kill the risen priest before he gets curbstomped by the undead horde and he will also have to deal with the champion abomination that likes to sit around when you fight the risen priest.
Second fight takes place into the grand temple of the pantheon, the magic that lurks the area prevents the risen priest of balthazar from summoning his undead horde but he can still spawns acolyts.
Last fight takes place into cleansed orr, the risen priest of balthazar is out of corpses and can’ t summon his undead horde nor spawn acolyts.
Who will win these three epic battle ? Let me know your opinion fellow arena entusiats

I open this thread to discuss about impossible fights involving the strongest mobs of Guild Wars 2.
I’ ll try to get this started with the introduction of my favourite challengers:
Risen Priest Of Balthazar

Then did Balthazar, god of war and fire, appear to the soldiers, carrying with him a grand sword that did glow with such brilliance it blinded any who looked upon it. When he spoke, His voice was like thunder, and it shook the ground with force.
And then did release from His sword a hundred thousand flames, which encircled the soldiers. For this was the fire of courage, and forthwith did they follow the god into battle without fear or hesitation. Thence was the enemy struck down.
Hype
Supreme overlord of Cursed Shore and avatar of the fierce god of fire and battle himself, the champion risen priest of balthazar pose a challenge even to the most prepared commanders and is able to wipe out entire guilds.
An unprepared zerg will face certain defeat before even scratching the surface of his armor, only once have i assisted to his demise and that was when the player cap for cursed shore was reached and everyone was there, under the lead of three different commanders, doing what was needed when commanded to do so.
Powers And Abilites:
He is the keeper of the precious obsidian shards (you need to kill him to buy obsidian shards from the temple vendor) and as such he has a variety of deadly tools at his disposal to keep players from reaching his treasure.
1) Rampage: just like warriors can turn into juggernouts with maximized health, power and thoughness, the priest of balthazar will fight the entire encounter with rampage mode activated becoming far more deadlier than other risen priests.
2) Berserker: as if rampage alone wasn’ t enough, when he drops low on HP he will go berserker gaining 20% extra damage.
3) strong crowd control abilites: he is able to fear people around him using the warrior shout “fear me” or send them flying with a warstomp that also does massive area of effect damage.
4)MASSIVE area of effect damage: beside that stomp, which only the sturdiest builds can survive, he has 2 more mid range aoe abilities and 2 long range ones. From a distance he is able to cast well of blood and well of suffering, the first will deal medium damage and heal him while the second will cast divine punishment upon those who trespass it. Mid range he will occasionaly throw fireballs dealing extremely high splash damage or cast life syphon healing himself for each target it hits and dealing mid to high damage in a circular zone around him.
5) he got backups: he will also summon acolytes that immobilize nearby foes setting them up for a nice event wipe by the hand of wells of suffering. If their number grows too much they will start healing the risen priest.
6) actually forget backups, he got an army: since he kinda is a risen commander he also has his personal undead horde which he will summon within 10 minutes and wipe everyone unless he is killed before that time limit is reached.

I was about to tell you how awesome it is to play shatter and instagib everyone but then i remembered how low i had to drop in the leaderboard to become effective.
4v5 ? pfff i say go 2v5 or go home

This pax ? Yet another nail on the coffin of spvp.
Axe/Dagger and Sword/Torch is extremely fluid and fun to play, with tons of synergy.
100% this, even if you are a good player the moment you touch a shortbow you become an autoattack spammer and everyone hates you.
The AoE kittenfest in graveyard was unwatchable. Constantly switching POV certainly didn’t help.
Khylo felt a little more watchable, but only in comparison to how silly the last round looked.
The commentary had to keep people informed on what was happening both on AND off screen because they had no control over which character they were viewing, and at times, we were watching an utter mess.

Just because he’s a kitten doesn’t make him any less right, a lot of top pvp’ers tend to be “rough around the edges” and if Anet uses that as an excuse to ignore his advice they’re stupider than I thought.
Guy 1 starts walking towards a cliff with a steep drop off unknowingly.
Guy 2 says “Hey f***t**d stop walking that way you’re gonna fall of a cliff moron.”
Guy 1 “Wow that is just rude why would I listen to you?”
Guy 1 falls off the cliff…
Well if Guy 2 doesn’ t learn some proper manners he can expect to have many more Guy 1 on his coscience.
Taking far is extremely important, even trying only once in a while, if you never harass far their home defender will feel confidant enough to join the teamfight at mid and that’ s when kitten happens.
However one does not simply walk into far, your team needs to have a dedicated contester (usually a thief) that starts going far when the teamfight at mid is almost won or almost loss.
Sometimes, for example in battle of khylo, it’ s much easier to simply go straight for far before it is even capped.
These are strategies that rely heavily on your thief ability to win 1v1 though, if you don’ t have a pro thief amongst your ranks you could go with the good old portal split. Meaning that you initially split 2-3 between close and mid, if close gets contested you fight 2v1 and if it doesn’ t the mesmer drops a portal and proceeds to go mid. Once there you are either 4v4 or 4v5, if you are 4v5 the mesmer opens the portal and evens out the fight, if you are 4v4 you win the fight (hopefully) than the contester of the other team will invade your close than the mesmer opens the portal if needed to join at close.
Everything changes accordingly to your team anyway, if you have necro/engi/ranger/guardian you should win every teamfight so your focus is to prevent the enemy team from taking the side points doing 5v4 while your guardian sits at mid.
If you have a dps focused, guardianless team such as ele/warrior/mesmer/thief you are pretty much screwed because the strategy would be to get a solid hold of the side points but there is just no way that your team will comply to the strategy instead of getting regularly pwned in uneven fights at mid.
Then there are the “useless builds” variables, i am talking about people running cleric/soldier builds (that are not guardians) that completely lack damage, such individuals are only good for sitting on the close point and you should threathen them with combustible lemons to make them stay at close if you need to.
Then there are the “takes skills” variables, if you have a spirit ranger in your team he could be the best mental eu (for refence: best mental eu comes from another mmo and means very bad player with very big ego) but you can be sure that in a midfight he will do good, if you have an elementalist or a thief it’ s the opposite, it is possible that he will be able to do great and be a valuable asset to the team but more likely he will just get farmed over and over without accomplishing anything due to his build requiring a level of mastership that he lacks.
Then there is the skyhammer variable, every time i get skyhammer i AwayFromKeyboard in base all the time but you should keep a guardian/engi/necromancer/warrior built specifically for skyhammer in your character selection and switch to it when you get skyhammer. Hopefully if your teammates do the same you should win.

Actually, gw2 isn’ t a pve focused game.
Dungeons aren’ t as intresting or challenging as they are into other mmos due to the fact that the whole system is designed around dps. There are a few intresting ones, take for example the molten facility (now removed from the game) and the fractals but that’ s far from making gw2 a pve focused game.
What gw2 has that many games don’ t though is an incredibly engaging lvling phase, the world of tyria is beautiful and full of wonderful places that really make you want to explore it all. It was hard to push myself out of the “lvl 80, must farm orr” mindset but it was worth it, one thing that many people don’ t notice is that loot is scaled up to your level along with your stats being scaled down to the zone, i had the most fun going around the starting areas of the other races after i reached the cap.
PvP, however, is in a very bad state.
WvWvW borderlands in my opinion suffer from being small maps where 1/5 of the territory is covered by water and 1/5 is the unaccesible citadel of the server. Everyone is focused around the same objectives and this motivates people to create huge zergs.
The fact that most targets are towers doesn’ t help either, you don’ t create “an epic battle between players” when you are defending a tower, you just spam arrow carts and farm badges. The eternal battleground has all the objectives stacked toghether so it isn’ t much better, what makes it better is the stonemist that makes it possible to have many fights in its vicinity.
You see, in facts i believe the stonemist should be taken as an example for future improvements; a few big targets surrounded by open space around which you can fight.
Spvp, well, i’ ll just say that imo 100% quickness metagame was the best.
Warriors were the last wheel of the truck but they could still be useful in their own way.
Thieves were the hardest class to master but were also very useful for tournaments and you could still use them to stomp newcomers who didnt know about their 1hko mechanics.
Rangers had just discovered traps and suddenly became viable, engineers were already made viable long before that, necromancers required timing and knowledge of the other classes cooldowns and i had a very cool 0 30 20 20 0 holder build that brought me champion phantom that now doesnt work anymore
Elementalists complemented many teams very good due to aura sharing/runes of the pack/ride the liting/ glyph of renewal/ tornado/ general tankiness and speed.
Guardians i have the impression were even more resilient than now but this was counterbalanced by mesmers whose shatters used to do A LOT more damage back then than they do now.

Well eles offer some valuable things to the team that thieves don’ t have.
- roll in water attunement removes 1 condition from teammates
- dragon tooth + phoenix are quite good at ress denial.
- mist form is very good for stomping/ressing in heated situations
- the hurricane can be used for emergency far point decap
However thieves have
- better survival abilities
- boon stripping (great vs guardians)
- res potential via shadow refuge
- better mobility (although this point is arguable, infiltrator arrow alone makes the difference in maps such as khylo or forest, if you add shadow trap to that you easily beat rtl + fiery charge)
- choking gas + cluster bomb are quite good at ress denial too.
Did you win or lose?
Actually its almost worth losing to hear everyone blame each other and whine about everyone else being noobs.
I stood and guarded a point the whole game, never lost it. My team mates all zerged middle point and beaten every time. However because i had lowest score i was the reason we lost!
See, I love that. Taking damage or holding a point don’t contribute to your score, when really if you’re sitting there being a bunky mofo you should be awarded for taking the kind of damage you’re likely to take. I remember a game I had with some elitist who trashtalked everyone on my team and I called her out on it, and after the game (which we lost) I had the least amount of points because instead of going and trying to damage everything I was holding them off points and taking on more than one of them in multiple situations, resulting in far less kills than my teammates. Apparently my lack of points meant I did absolutely nothing to contribute.
only guardians and (staff2counternecros)elementalists are supposed to use cleric amulet, if you are a cleric insert class you are not an holder, you are just useless.
what a trol, elementalists are full of aoes.
My idea is to destroy that kind of play and bring it back to the S/D users making full use of their.

Increase mouse sensibility to the point where moving your mouse 1 inch to the left results into a 360°.
You’ ll have to get used to the extreme speed but it’ s the only way to keep up, if you have to move your wrist even once you are doing it wrong.
Because your leaderboard position is next to theirs.

All AI mechanics and builds should be deliberately nerfed to the point where they are worse than active builds, but where the casuals/pve ers can still enjoy it. Minions are fine in this regard. Nobody good ever thinks a minions necro is powerful. But the lower level players can enjoy playing it in pve and pvp.
lxl Super lxl banned soldier amulet from 1v1 king of hill, before that minionmancers rocked duels with the majority of classes due to their ability to facetank 4 hundredblades in a row.
Spirits should be ethereal beings that float around the ranger, i don’ t get how can they stop projectiles.

in topic: ask them if they think that the skill ceiling of the game decreased with the last patch.
There would be rage even if the game was balanced, probably less that’ s for sure but people have been mean to eachother on the internet since forever.
One thing that really gets on my nerves though is when people play absolutely wrong builds.
I can understand them playing bad with good builds but playing bad with bad builds is simply pointless.
If you don’ t even take your time and look for a viable build before entering the queue for a tournament (which is something that takes commitement) you’ ll have to bare with my disappointement (aka me telling you “omg noob go back to hotjoins”).I play a sub par / bad build, in soloQ.
As long as it is bad in a “not optimal” manner, for example playing trap ranger instead of spirit ranger, i am perfectly fine with it, it’ s a matter of suiting your playstyle.
What i am not fine with, however, are builds that are bad in a “completely useless” way.
Take for istance thieves playing with 30 shadow arts 30 acrobatics and soldier amulet who pretend to be bunkers, that’ s not a kittening bunker spec for kitty sake, by the time you join a tournament you should already know that stealth makes you lose control of a point. Then the match turns into a 4v5 because such a thief does nothing useful but surviving and the team chat turns colorful.
i doubt anyone would sync queue with double guard double mes… unless that’ s their strategy to make you think that they didnt sync o_o
- Bugs! There are still SO many bugs that exist with all 8 classes a year into the game, and some of these bugs are part of the class balance issues. If you go and look on the wiki you can see most of them, I really don’t know why more of these aren’t being addressed over more minor things like tooltip mistakes.
I think Grouch is now working at anet and has been tasked with aggressively dealing with bugs. Just take a glance at the bug forum and he’s posting all over the place. He has asked in the profession forums like 3 days ago to start posting your game bugs directly to the bug forum (“his domain”)

Also the rating system tends to place seasoned players and newcomers next to eachother so that experienced tournament runner like you can teach newbies the basics of competitive matches.
