That is the problem, it’s not a buff. It’s just adding bunker role to ranger. There is absolutely no reason to go anything but full healing power tank on Druid.

Temporary? Yes, but the concept is there. ArenaNet, as of right now, wants the Druid to be purely a healer. There is no evidence that shows they want to change it from being a healer-like role. No conditions, no power, not even buffs from boons. Just healing.

Just like scrapper traits look strong on standard engi.

I’m thinking about longbow gs or longbow s/x with beastmastery, wilderness survival, druid and marauder amulet.

From the adepts you get a condi removal.
From the masters you get a stealth that doesn’t rely on hitting a target (hunter shot) or rng (suine pet f2).
From the grandmasters you get a situational immobilize on a 10s cd.

Basically you just flash celestial form to stealth and condi cleanse and play like a standard power ranger.
As a bonus you also get some cool abilities to play around in celestial form, provided you aren’t pressured to leave it to stealth.

number 3 can be used to aoe proc the immobilize from the grandmaster,
number 5 is a strong cleave, remember that slow goes through stability,
everything else can be used to heal up if the situation allows it.

IMO it all depends on how fast you can generate celestial force but it has the potential to be good.

the problem is not trinity or lack thereof, “the problem” is everyone must be able to do everything so dungeons lack any real challenging mechanic and you just zerk rush everything. And i say “problem” because one way or the other this philosophy turned out to be very popular.

Anyway there are things that are more challenging and bring diversification, TA aetherpath is a good example of that, the champion husks during the 3headedwurm are another good example.

Here’s hoping with the rework of defiance and the introduction of raid content some of the trinity entusiasts will start to appreciate the pve side of gw2.

If, as some people like to argue, all enemies but the Reaper is a bunker, then chances are you should probably just… Leave that fight and go be useful somewhere else? That’d be my best advice.

well this is dumb, if you get something like ele ele guard reaper thief you can’t focus anyone. you pressure ele they get out of the fight and reset. you pressure thief you cant really pressure a thief if the thief is good. you pressure guard someone on your team will die to pressure before the guard does. you can only resort to good old focus the necro exept this time it will take 3x the time it usually takes to kill it.

this is a terrain inherent bug it can not be fixed without some drastic changes to the phisics engine.

Ideally you want the tanky guys alternate on point while everyone else moves in the right places and try to kills the right targets. Dumb example on khylo mid fights are usually 1 thief chasing 1 mesmer around clocktower, 1 necro/engi free casting from somewhere, 1 guy trying to kill the necro/engi, ele/guardian ducking it out on point.

You are telling me that you have a solid pack of players fighting on point all the time, that’s a basic mistake (even if it s 3 players that’s still 2 players too many).

Temporal curtain only grants swiftness if you don’t already have swiftness so you lose out on overall uptime from having to wait for the swiftness already on you to wear off.

Still, that’s much better than having to stop for 2 seconds every 10 seconds to blast a light field, atm rev is even slower than mesmer

You use it to hit stealthed targets or mesmer clones when they chase you.
The skill itself is quite weak but i can still see a couple of situations where it could be useful.
Basically those situations where any aoe would turn out useful, no matter how weak :P

Mantras (a kind of mesmer utilites) have the trademark of being istant casts and not requiring to be facing your target.

When i say they don’t require to face your target what i really mean is that you can 360 no scope all your mantras as long as your target is within range and there is line of sight.

So my question is, would it be a good pvp change to make them a bit more restrictive ? For example instead of 360 degrees reduce their activation radius to 180 degrees, that way they would still be pretty flexible but they would lose that 360 activation radius that i personally feel is a bit too much.

Let’s consider that mantras have a very long wind up time so it might be justified to make them work the way they work now, i want to know what other players think about them.

I think chait said nos was using celestial amulet with a signet build. That looked quite cool, he was also playing with signet of vampirism instead of consume conditions (consume conditions is rip apparently).

I think the biggest problem might be in teamfights where you no longer have any means to remove pressure.

The guy in the video just showed 2k condi damage with signet of bursting and runes of the undead (also possible with runes of scavenging) in spvp.

Can anyone calculate how much damage plague will do to you if you have 2k condi damage ?

LoL you talk about relative ? You, who looked at 3920 and said celestial got buffed without realizing that every amulet received an increment in stats, without realizing that relatively to other amulets celestial lost something compared to what was possible before ?

Just because you have an higher total it doesn’t mean you got stronger:
- all celestial builds are going to do less condition damage now (new scaling, less than 700 condi dmg means less dmg than you used to do).

they also become less tanky
- warrior loses 78 thoughness,178 healing and 178 vitality

- ele loses 178 vitality and 178 healing

- engi loses 178 vitality and 178 power(from explosives)

- everyone loses might duration
So basically you lose condi damage, you lose tankyness, all you gain is a lousy 122 power. Except for engi, engi loses power and condi dmg and gains 122 thoughness and 122 healing

And you STILL say that it was a buff ?

Lordrosicky you fail at math, 100% of the stats coming from the amulet /w celestial means that you lose 178 points in 4 stats (the traitlines where you had grandmaster) and gain 122 in the remaining 6 stats (not accounting for stuff like boon duration or condi duration).

Your point that " If you reduce the % advantage of celestial over other amulets you do not nerf it compared to what it was. Because you didnt used to get all your stats from celestial." is invalid.

Celestial lost a bit tankiness and got more damage. I wouldn’t call that a buff.

A celestial spec now has a bigger % advantage over all other amulets than before. This is maths not your opinion.

uuh no, you could get 300 from traitline + 438 from amulet = 738 total

not you can only get 560 from amulet

They changed berserk and valkyrie switched from toughness to vitality losing healing pow?

They changed the pvp amulets to have the same stat combo as the pve amulets, berserker and valkyrie have the same stat combo in pve and pvp now.

The old berserker pvp amulet is now marauder amulet, the old valkyrie is now crusader amulet.

Intresting, it looks like the missing stats from traitlines are being amply compensated by amulets, not sure how this is going to play out for classes with low base vitality but still, this opens a lot of options.

Jewels never were that big of a change, the only notable one was the berserker jewel due to 5% crit damage and that was before the introduction of ferocity.
Anyway let’s assume jewels are reintroduced and they factor for 20% of your stats:

+ makes it possible to pick more stat combinations
+ could open up new possibilities for low base hp classes
- promotes the false idea that spvp is about minmaxing stats
- makes it slightly more complex to change builds

Not sure about that, let’s see if other readers can find out other + or -

We have dueling rooms called king of the hill where players are supposed to fight using tpvp roaming builds.

There are rules enforced by the room admins to avoid tanky classes but sometimes you still see builds tailored exclusively for dueling, it’s kinda against the point of playing a realistic duel but w/e, at least it’s helpful to learn more about mechanics and stuff.

engis being able to reduce the duration of their heal by half when using medkit (there is a trait that resets cooldown on the next toolbelt skill after you evade)

That trait has 20s of cd, you won’t be able to use it efficiently on Bandage Self (16s cd), you are better off using it on your f5 (double moa ? double bandage drop ? quadruple orbital strike ?).

It also contends its spot with gadgeteer and gadgeteer basically gives you 50% cd reduction on slick shoes + an overcharge (no idea what the overcharge does but it’s probably going to be op like double duration or smthing)

Well getting trash talked / ostracized / frowned upon comes with the whole ranger package.

Pve wise rangers still get insta kicked uncomfortably often before even having the chance to say “spiritspotter”.

In wvwvw rangers aren’t accepted in closed raids, they take on the thankless role of sniping like a stray wolf exiled from his pack that can only follow the pack from afar and eat those few carrions that the pack doesn’t trample over.

In spvp rangers come last at the condition game, their niche is 1800 range pressure but then again 3 berserker classes out of 4 get access to one or more 1200 range teleport and guess what is the one berserker user without teleports ? You guess it, it’s ranger.

BW brings too much to teamfights. it’s probably the most significant utility the ranger will have. 2s aoe taunt on a 15s CD cant really be dismissed, it makes too much of a difference. it’s not any different from an earthshaker.

the other thing is on s/t + a/d, quickdraw seems kind of wasted. at best, it’s a little bit of burst, or an extra evade a little sooner. tbh id rather have an aoe taunt and a pet that nukes hard.

I was thinking about shortbow + s/d (teamfight oriented build) to take advantage of the cd reduction with shortbow #5 or #2 now that poison stacks in intensity.

I agree with you though, if the taunt is istant and has decent radius (maybe 600 radius like a shout) it will be the superior team fight option.

damage: both classes got their damage buffed
utilities: both classes got some new useful side effects to play with
survival: THIS is where the difference is, mesmer can now pick 6 into illusions and stop dying to conditions.

I disagree with your d/p prediction, in my opinion thieves are better off picking trickery + 1 defensive traitline + 1 offensive traitline. Putting both deadly arts and critical strikes in the same build looks too extreme even for a thief.

Longbow power ranger starts to look seriously viable now

@mistsim.2748 you miss out too much without skirmishing, 33% bleeding damage and 66% reduced cooldown beat 2s of taunt any day.

Checked some of your predictions (will finish checking the rest now), there are a couple of trait decisions i disagree with but overall i would pick the same traitlines.
50% reduced recharge on slick shoes looks really strong on paper, can’t really know if it will beat recharging 1 toolbelt skill every 20 seconds though _

lifesteal necro sounds stupid on paper but it’s a huge hp sponge in 1v1, even more now that their lifesteal will heal them through deathshroud.

still cant compete against Thief for a meta spot, so Mesmer remains borderline irrelevant. Thief’s buffs just made them even better at its role, and more effective in killing Mesmers.

TL;DR version → This is why i say mesmers gained more than thieves: thieves went from 7 power 7 defense to 8 power 8 defense, mesmers went from 7 power 4 defense to 8 power 6 defense. (thieves still on top but mesmers gained more overall)

predicted tournament thief builds -> 6 0 0 6 6 s/d and 6 0 6 0 6 d/p
predicted 1v1 room troll build -> 0 0 6 6 6 with 50% of the damage coming from fire/air combo.

Ignoring the king of the hill build (which may or may not see actual tournament play depending on how the meta developes) nothing drastically changed for thieves, there were some cool additions, sure, but it’s nothing completely new, just an improvement over what was already there. Thieves just got better at their job but guess what ? They already were the best at their job.

Mesmers on the other hand received a lot of much needed love, 6 domination 6 dueling got a flat buff to damage output. Not only that but you also get to choose between blind on shatter or 1.5s of reflection after evasion (both very helpful in a lot of matchups, including vs thieves).
After that you could go 6 chaos for chaotic interruption +regen/protection minors, 6 inspiration for condition hate +extra sustain, 6 illusions for an extra condition boost on your shatters.

Diehard mesmer purists will probably play 6 6 0 0 6 and even with such an extreme build they will survive better than current mesmers thanks to the new traits in domination.

6 into chaos could be used in place of confounding suggestions in some weird build without domination.

But the build that i predict will be most popular is 6 6 0 6 0, maxed inspiration will turn some matchups around, tournament mesmers will no longer die from a single pry bar/incendiary powder/weapon swap combo, they will be able to cleanse conditions, gain access to another source of healing outside of ether feast and top it off with a bit of additional party support.

This is why i say mesmers received more than thieves this time around, thieves went from 7 power 7 defense to 8 power 8 defense, mesmers went from 7 power 4 defense to 8 power 6 defense.

that’s not what necros needed at all. they needed more sustain and more debuffs, and that’s what they got. mobility and group buffs – youre thinking of other professions; likely druid will come in this flavor.

TL;DR version → your judgement is probably clouded by a lack of experience, you can see a more detailed summary below.

I’d like to know what you are basing this off.
Regarding tpvp necros suffer from having to play both spectral walk and the summoned wurm to reposition effectively.
Necros never played the role of bruisers, their survival ultimately came from condition hate and positioning.

You say necromancers needed more sustain but that is inaccurate, what you are talking about is a new way to play the necro that makes proper use of sustain. At the moment hps (healing per second) is not a key element to necro survival because necros lack the tools to make use of it.

Mind my words, i too would like to see a bruiser necro and the expansion will hopefully achieve that but then again what will you do with the extra tankiness if you take ages to move between capture points ?

Moving on, how can you say that necros needed more group debuffs ?
More group debuffs are nice, look at the unblockable aoe shout that makes your attacks unblockable and turns 2 boons into vulnerability, that’s a nice addition, but was it needed ? I mean more is always nice but this isn’t something crucial to necros, if you played this game for a while you can’t honestly say that a point in the necro agenda was to gain more debuffs.

Pve argument ? You say necros didn’t need more group utility or meele cleeve ? This is plain wrong.
