depends on your skill level
not so gut: something that strongly impacts teamfights and is hard to kill, i’d say hamwarrior.
good: something that strongly punish the enenemy team for zerging and can easily win most 1v1 fights, i’d say a thief.
wunderbar: something that can do everything at the same time, a tanky class that does ok damage and also has high mobility. Something like a condition warrior, an engineer or a ranger.
Note that in the last case in order to carry you need to effectively cover both roles. You must be able to hold or run away against 2+ people, contest undefended points when you get the chance, stand on the capture poing without dieing during team fights.
“ALL IS VAIN” should be a pvp title. Obtained after enduring 100 match losses that are 4v5 or lost by blowouts.
“No GF” should be an achievement. Obtained after hitting below 69% in the leaderboards.
Next patch,make it happen, thanks!
haha that would be epic
invite me please, i want to be part of this epic guild
You raised a very good point TChalla, I am curious to know what the other players think: should the guild tag be [AiV] to underline the fact that all is vain or [NoGF] to underline the fact that soloqueue will take away your beloved one ?
We need this said by an NPC in the mists.XD
An NPC which will explain to new players how things go.XD
Even better, NPC’s should say “all is vain” upon dying.
Supports!
Skyrim has “Arrow to the knee”
Gw2 solotpvp needs “All is Vain”
“I used to be a yoloqueue hero like you but than i realized that all is vain”
I don’t think it is intended for warbanner to bypass death penalities.
If a player is downed 5 times in a short time that fifth time he will go straight to the respawn point without any downed mode, keep lords should behave in a similar manner.
edited out an emotional response after actually watching the video.

hey guys just passing by, wanted to let you know that all is vain.
I feel inspired ! here’s an haiku to celebrate this masterpiece.
sad yet true story

essence of solo queue
(edited by Lachanche.6859)
Well personally i am a bit annoyed by ascended armors because i don’t like crafting, however the difference between exotic and ascended is so small that it doesn’t feel like a forced decision and i like this fact.
Keeping an ele at over 90% isn’t passive play at all, and helps address the problem with bunker eles over healing…
It all boils down to what you play (duels ? team queue ? yolo queue ?). In a duel staying over 90% hp is almost granted against every condition build except spirits/nades. In solo it’s a matter of experience/luck, you have to be in the right place at the right time to really abuse the 90% hp treshold. In a team it is balanced by coordination and teamplay, at mid you are almost granted to be focused and as a roamer it is very likely that you will meet an high number of spirit builds.
How many direct damage classes can 1v1 your bunker Ken? How much of a pain in the kitten is killing a good bunker guard with 2 direct damage classes?
Heaven forbid a bunker ele could do the same vs condi…
Except a guardian can negate direct damage for a limited amount of time (each ability only lasts a fixed time), eles will be able to negate condition damage indefinitely as long as they can keep above their hp treshold.
Mind to explain why you are under the opinion that
a: diamond skin is an hard counter to all condition builds
and
b: hard counters are a bad thing for the game
?
googo sensotix superhero xD
i luv your gameplay, consider me your bestest fan lol
dishonorable win > honorable loss

“I’m so good,i have high skill build,it’s really difficult for other warriors” The summary of this thread
/Yawn
what he said
I don’ t think talking about gayporn is inline with the rules of conduct of this forum… or is it ?
worth noting: traited vengeance can rally a warrior off flash golem/wurm/rock dog
Not working with ranger pets because they don’t really die but start following the ranger with 0 hp.
Just got my new laptop, it had windows 8 with that annoying feature that prevents you from booting via dvd to install other operating systems. I completely wiped it and installed fedora on it just so i could install seven. That’s how much i despise it.
There’s worse, try out the warrior warhorn conditions → boons trait with runes of the soldier on.
The tooltip states that it converts 1 boon, it actually converts 2.
Runes shouldn’t affect it, they do.
Perfect start with 2 mesmers in our team and 0 guardians. One of them goes for the enemy treb and the other one goes to our treb.
The guy at our treb does’t do his trebuchet bot job and after losing the treb starts randomly roaming around.
The guy at the enemy treb doesn t follow the rest of the team at far and fails to 1v1 the enemy guard at mid.
We had 2 points at this point and our mesmers could still catch up with the strategy we had previously planned… but nope.
Dumb mesmers, even more annoying than dumb thieves.
What are you talking about you are only complaining because you lack the skills to tell what was going on. That ranger pulled off an incredibly skilled stunt and deserved its victory over the lame ele 1hko build.
Good morning everyone, i’m getting close to my champion hunter title and there is something that has recently started bugging me.
There are two specific “tight” matchups, meaning two matchups where an error could cost you the fight, where having a pet is more hindering than useful.
I am talking about fights against warriors with cleansing ire and necromancers.
Against a warrior having a pet out means that the warrior will always be able to land his burst skill if he needs to cleanse conditions with cleansing ire. You might think “why should a warrior waste adrenaline for a pet” to which I answer that earthshaker is aoe anyway, dodging an earthshaker only to have your pet eat it is very annoying for the ranger and is not a problem for the warrior.
Against necros i have developed a very aggressive gameplay where i load them with conditions and then LOS away from their dagger transfer condition looking out for the staff mark animation and dodge each time i see the necro start casting a mark. This, however, is completely disrupted by my dumb pets. What usually happens is that the necro transfers his conditions over to my pet and kills two birds with one stone: self cleansing and if my pet dies i won’t be able to transfer conditions to it.
Lately i started playing with the shout “Guard” and pets in passive mode (dont attack until told to do so) that coupled toghether allows you to make your pet go away and stay there. However i think that the ability to tell your pet to stop following you and wait somewhere nearby should be given to any ranger without having to dedicate an utility slot to it.
Let me know what you think of this suggestion.
I was quite surprised being called “best mental eu” when playing mesmer during the beta weekend. That’s a reference from another game and it basically means “you think so good of yourself but you suck at whatever it is you think you are good at”.
Made me lol because i played that other game just before i started playing gw2

This patch will change the meta for years to come and everyone will remember it as the tyranny of conjured weapons eles.
No. No it wasn’t. Not at all.
Motoko.2875:
What? WoW PvP never came close to the popularity that GW PvP reached. GW1 PvP was easily one if the first if not the pioneer in eSport gaming. (ignore FPS for a second).
At its peak in viewership, around 2009. WoW arenas used to get 80K+ concurrent viewers at MLG events. I don’t think GW1 was ever at MLG or came close to those type of numbers. Not because the game was bad or anything, but because WoW was way more popular.
seems like a popularity comparison to me
i would recall that S/D has basically a whole useless weapon attached ( dagger OH) where you’re basically wasting ini 99% of the time if you use those 2 skills.
IMO this is because offhand dagger was very good early on.
I dont really remember when these things were changed but i remember trying out all of them myself.
No revealed debuff.
Could contest points in wvwvw under stealth.
Too good damage on bouncing dagger (i remember the damage on the tooltip was 754, for comparison heartseeker’tooltip stated 1100 dmg under 33% hp).
Low ini cost on c&d.
Specifically about c&d i have to say that i remember the damage, the cast time and the ini cost bounce around quite a lot until it assesestated at 6 ini, mid damage and short cast time.
At this point i think it’s fair to say that off hand dagger lacks something to make up for what it lost.
Blurred frenzy for instance does not count as if you’re capping a point
This was recently changed, you can’t use blurred frenzy to avoid the cannon in skyhammer but now you can use it while capping a point.
You are talking about power creep which is what happens when the general power level of a game keeps increasing over time for whatever reason.
Point is, condition removal in wvwvw hasn’t been subject to power creep, it is where it has always been.
Shout warriors/guardians existed since forever, the same goes for staff eles with 30 points in water that make your team basically immune to conditions once every 36 seconds thanks to healing rain.
In spvp such specs are useless (except for the guardian) because they do too little damage and aren’t able to hold their own in 1v1 scenarios (ok now warriors can also do that thanks to healing signet) but in world vs world, with bigger numbers, they can finally find their spot.
And it’s not like it is so incredibly overpowered, if a team misses the rotation because someone got singled out or simply screwed up or the other team gets off an incredibly coordinated cc+boon corruption+condition burst you can still get decimated.
The fact that it evens out by itself makes it balanced.
It’s not a power creep induced balance because it has been this way since a lot of time. (dhumfire icd makes it useless vs zergs)
Runes of perplexity are an imbalanced runeset, yet they can’t produce a disturbance in the spiritual war between condition and condition removal when you throw them into a 15v15. This should get you thinking.
. (speaking about king of the hill mode duels)
Which has abso-kittening-lutely no bearing on a team based Capture point game.
except when you go for the far point decap what happens 50% of the times is you have to 1v1 the enemy side holder.
So if people melt in seconds due to condition overload in tpvp that’s perfectly fine and balanced but if a very strong runeset only works in 15v15 if you coordinate and build your team for it, yet the other side still has the chance to react, it is a blatant proof of unbalance ?
Anet should really hire you, you seem to sintonize well with their policy.
As I said it’s the combination of things that makes infiltrator strike so complained about.
If you reduced the evasion frames on flanking strike infiltrator would be ok, if you reduced the effectiveness of infiltrator strike flanking would be ok, if you toned down the amount of endurance a thief can produce infiltrator and flanking would be ok.
Originally leaping death blossom (d/d #3) had a much longer evasion frame to it, thieves could go full elicopter and be effective most of the times. s/d isn’t in such a bad spot because you must use larcenous strike after a flanking but you have the ability to teleport 1200 meters back at will, imagine if the old d/d spec could do that.
Also it’s true that the range is 600 but you do 2 + steal or 2 + signet, when you have those on cd you use basilisk venom or shadow refuge, if you need to buy more time you go into shortbow spam mode, there’s not a real window of opportunity and this is bad imo. (speaking about king of the hill mode duels)
Assuming a fight between competent guilds a lucky warrior will get his aoe confusion to proc maybe once each 3-4 earthshakers and chances are it will be cleansed anyway.
Runes of the soldier on the other hand would allow him to remove 15 additional conditions (1 condition * 3 shouts * 5 players).
Lol @ this thread and everyone who whines about inf strike. Skill was here from beta problem free in stronger form. Went from OP S/P and “OP” S/D went being talked about. S/P remained in use as “the third” melee set and still no complaints when it had quickness supporting it and the stun break. Off hand dagger remained unbuffed. One S/D change later inf strike is the most OP skill in the game even after needs.
Straight up if inf strike is OP then players of this forum are so slow to find OP skills they’re quite likely still missing on worthwhile skills and weapon sets, that or they’re attaking the wrong thing but don’t notice as they need to just throw out kitten that they’ve heard from whatever “authority” they believe in.
7 months from now it’ll be complaints about Shadowstep, tripwire and swirling winds.
You either have short memory or are intellectually dishonest.
Let’s peek at the past options you had with mainhand sword as a theif.
Sword/Dagger -> only used due to hilt bash lasting as long as the current skull crack, not viable after they reduced hilt bash to 2 sec base duration.
Sword/Pistol ->pistol whip had a longass delay between the stun and the evade portion of the attack, you would actually start attacking with your blade after the stun effect finished. Damage was buffed, then nerfed again, stun duration was modified multiple times, then they only recently reduced the delay and made the set viable. Still vulnerable to retailation.
…
6 months later
flanking strike is more reliable than pistol whip to dodge attacks and larcenous strike more effective at dealing damage given its ability to punish boons users (specifically protection/retailation users).
The ability to disengage at will coupled with a reliable initiative based evade and shadow refuge makes it so a thief always has something to fall back to.
The single things aren’t unbalanced themselves but when you start to factor them all toghether you get why players in general don’t like infiltrator strike. A thief that goes for larcenous strike instead of dodging should be punished for his misjudgement, either by taking damage or by using a cd to escape, as it is now he can just shadow return back.

You said it.
Frontliners have a good amount of condi removals, frontliners are also the same who runs with Runes of Perplexity and are able to stack 9 confusions with a single interrupts.
You are wrong on three different levels:
- warrior/guardian frontliners run runes of the soldier.
- the fear applied by necromancer frontliners doesn’t count as an interrupt and therefore doesn’t trigger perplexity runes.
- runes of perplexity apply 5 stacks of confusion.
You can have your opinion of the 15v15 format but runes of perplexity are not an issue there as long as your team rotates stability and shouts properly.
I can only see them being effective after a well coordinated well of corruption/null field push (which is hard to pull off and easy to defend against = balanced) or during thieves/mesmers deathsquad incursions against backliners (which are high risk high reward = balanced).
This game wasn’t designed with 1v1 in mind, runes of perplexity are the perfect example of that.
Feel free to look at the finger while i’m pointing at the moon.
Jasher, Phantasm mesmers were/are very easy to play.
Very easy to play by who’s standards? Yours? Your friends? The “Pro’s”? The forums?
Measuring performance and the level of effort it takes to accomplish something effectively isn’t something you can quantify that easily.
I’ve played against many many Phantasm Mesmer’s who I destroyed… and this was before the nerf when they were supposedly “op”… LoS and dodging the telegraphed and delayed responses from the Phantasms wasn’t a very difficult task… the auto-attack from the Mesmer was pitiful at best…
I digress.
If Phantasm Mesmer’s were so easy… why were so many that I faced so bad at it?
Cut it out, they were easy in the absolute sense of the term.
4, switch, 4, play hide and seek, repeat.
Empirically 90 players out of 100 could do that, highest percentage of simplicity amongst all professions.
0 10 30 30 0 hammertrains belong in wvwvw, banish them from from spvp, ty.
(edited by Lachanche.6859)
I disagree with everything you said. Further than that, i actually believe that you have no knowledge of this game whatsoever end/or are trying to make fun of people by making pointless statements that lack a factual backup.
Overall good. A possible improvement though, sometimes in the heat of the battle you lower the volume of your voice and i have to play around with my headphones volume controller, try to keep the volume constant for future shoutcasts :P
Do you even read what you are writing ?
You are talking about a mythological beast called meta.
A random NA guy that i have never heard about started playing hammer longbow a longass time ago, so what ? do you think no one would have ever thought of that without seeing him first ?
i have seen some very good eles using focus to good extents at least in 1v1, too bad that spec looses a lot of roaming potential.
I don- t get it either mind to explain it better ? Probably your post is too hard for mmorpg folks exactly like gw2 pvp.
yeah but CC had latency issues and super dc/d at the beginning of the second match
There are a lot of animation shenanigans that you can do abusing character models.
A juvenile Reef Drake is big enough to completely obstruct a min size asura, you can put the drake in idle mode (won’ t attack foes and stand still) and let your pocket necromancer hide inside it.
The other team will be all like “focus the necro” and then “where the heck is it” lol.
You can also make use of the way some attacks are over telegraphed; a max size guardian using banish will scream “dodge me”, a max size guardian using the regular hammer auto attack chain and then replacing the third hit with banish will most likely connect.
And how not to mention mesmers ? Landing illusionary frenzy with a max size char and landing it with an asura are two entirely different tasks. The advantage of playing the char being the incredible amout of visual clutter that PHAT clones can produce.
The same goes for warriors, i love how an asura warrior can extend his hundred blades outside the phisical area covered by his greatsword.
I can dodge just fine while being immobilized, even without the use of any skills.
Uhm no?
mesmer mh sword #3 disagrees with you
I get it on purpose when i want to rock a duel room.
I like the “inglorious kitten” feeling of dueling people with a dishonored debuff, usually i also use super lame builds such as m/s gs warrior with valkyrie amulet and i also play dishonorable (pillar hug 24/7, sword rush to disengage and heal up with the op signet).
