I find condi necro pretty boring

This is because you might have been playing it wrong. Once you team up with only condi damage dealers and at least 2 more necros you’ll see that Epi bounce (well executed) is one of the coolest mechanics that makes you just wipe through FotM. Viper Necros might not be the highest damage output but they’re extremely functional in the right parties and rarely go get downed, even at higher level fractals.

I was just wondering how well a power necro is in higher tier fractals all the way to CM 100.

Power necros are underlooked. We all want them to be a thing but that’s the reality even with the GS buff. If you show up to a 100 CM pug there’s a 90% chance people will ask you to swap or vote kick you (can happen different if you’re running with guildies and/or friends).

I have never been kicked for it. I have the title and potions so beyond that people don’t care what you bring in my experiences.

Seriously. In power compositions asking pot and title it won’t be an issue. I normally run with condi only teams (with viper necro or condi ps) and power necros are not welcome there. Seen this also happen in PUG raids where people are asking for condi necros (VG and Gorse) and a power necro joins. Guess it has to do people not reading descriptions in LFG.

I run 100 CM every single day, and never have an issue with pugs that didnt specify condi before hand.

Your made up stats are exactly that, made up.

If by stats you’re referring to statistics, then yes.

I’m completely on board with this. Btw why would you swap Reaper’s Onslaught with Decimate Defenses? I don’t see how that would change anything, unless you’re trying to open up Soul Eater to be used with Decimate Defenses?

To be honest, it has always been a grandmaster level trait. Consider the other necro trait that grants +50% crit chance if certain criteria is met.

I mean, I can understand Decimate Defenses being worthy of the Grandmaster slot. What gets me is Reaper’s Onslaught, though. wouldn’t Deathly Chill make a smarter swap? You’d get Bleeds from Chill and the increases Precision from DD. RO seems pretty good with its recent buff to me, especially when traited with Dhuumfire and Unyielding Blast along with DD. Simply swapping DD with RO doesn’t seem to change much, if anything, to me. Though in hindsight, I guess it’d be better to completely move RO to the Soul Reaping line since it’s only focused on being in Shroud. Then maybe swap Fear of Death where RO should be? Since the Reaper line already has Shivers of Dread, it just seems like FoD would fit nicely along with it for Condi Reapers. Idk just thinking outside the box here.

I will admit it is a bias move in favour of power necro since it does nerf condi. But I guess I’ve always been anti Reaper’s Onslaught and wanted an actual power trait that is universally useful.

With Fear of Death though, they should just remove the down state part then move and merge it with Terror in the Curses line. Soul reaping could do with a shake up to be honest, but anet doesn’t seem to like tampering with traits much. A few suggestions I had:
- Swap parts of Vital Persistence and Strength of Undeath round so VP is now baseline and SoU is a midtier trait. They now are as such: VP – Life force drains 50% slower and you gain a 15% larger life force pool. SoU – you deal +10% more damage whilst in shroud and your shroud skills recharge 20% quicker.
- Merge Unyielding blast with Dhuumfire. Though this would mean I’d need a new first tier trait and, if my Fear of Death change happened, a new mid tier trait too.

This is why GW1 skills far trump GW2: you had a myriad of themed spells to choose from (they are actually called spells) and almost every skill had a use depending on build. Yes you had your metas such as Spiteful Spirit build, MM, Spoil Victor, and Blood is Power, but I enjoyed a lot of Faction battles using Vampiric Spirit and a bunch of life steal spells that made me invincible as long as the energy held, which with Soul Reaping it normally did. As I said before, you FEEL like a necromancer rather than a generic fighting model with a few effects.

The homogenization of effects did this to be honest. I do miss all the unique enchantments and hexes.
That said I do prefer the fluid combat of gw2.

Copy paste the savage leap animation for it. It actually works really well with Greatsword (not so secret JP has jump pads that simulate the animation).

  • Well of Fragility – Foes are weakened, lose endurance, and cannot use shouts.

That would be useless against non player foes though.

First off I’d like to say your suggested changes to epi are very balanced and, if anything does happen to epi, those should be the changes.
Second, to everyone else on this post, remember that all epidemic does is spread all conditions on one target (up to 25 stacks of each) to nearby enemies. That means, to counter it, all you need is to make sure everyone has condition removal. If you deny the enemy any chance to apply them in the first place, Epi is next to useless.

Two things I have a problem with.
1: Seems like ritualist would be more of a Revenant thing, considering their whole setup is communing with spirits of legendary figures and using them to empower themselves.
2: More AI skills. Something anet really needs to avoid because they encourage lazy gameplay.

On a positive note, I do love the weapon spells idea. Necro is in dire need of decent party support and it seems like a good direction to go. Personally I’d call them Orders (after the gw1 necro skill set) but whatever their name is, they’d both give us some nice party buffs.

Well of Blood got an indirect buff in the form of blasting light fields for condi removal (though this relies on other players since necro lacks blast finishers).
On the Well of Darkness subject, I’d say it needs either:
A. a damage modifier. So that it can be used as part of a well bomb (about half of corruption maybe?).
B. a projectile block. So it can be used as part of a power setup for projectile hate (instead of cpc which is condi, don’t tell me otherwise).
C. something else entirely. A cooldown reduction doesn’t make it more viable anet. Stop telling yourself it does.

just make well of darkness a smoke field. well of suffering needs more damage and so does corruption well. well of power should grant resistance so we don’t suffer from our conditions while they are being transfered to boons

After Mesmer wells were introduced with a 3s duration, I got it in my head that they should reduce Necro wells to a 3s duration but double the current effects (with one of my suggested changes to well of darkness).
So well of suffering does the same total damage but half the duration (aka double pulse damage).
Well of Corruption corrupts 2 boons per pulse + same damage for total duration.
Well of Power turns 2 conditions into boons per pulse.
I also think that all wells that do not currently have damage should gain a very minor one, so that they then will trigger the vampiric and vampiric aura traits (like they used to before anet fixed it as a “bug”).
An elite well would also be great. Something with burning and high damage, so it can be used for both power and condi builds.

Greatsword also limits what you can bring offhand. Sword could be tailored to be both offensive and defensive depending on your offhand.

Please anet just make it so Meteor shower does a fixed amount of damage (up the damage if need be) within the aoe instead of random hits. Same with Ice Storm and any other random aoe based attacks.

I have been running zerker reaper axe/dagger, gs w/ a couple wells is extremely fun! I just switched to it this past week and it performs perfectly through T4’s. Much more engaging than condi, which I had been playing for the past year or so. Try it out!

That’s my monthly rotation. Play condi then get bored and move to power. Then get bored again and move back to condi. Stacking ~40 bleeds on a foe with rs #5 and 4 will never get old though.

mesmer can t strip that much boons and even rev dunno. imagine 5 boons every 7 secs or sth. with prot and resistance, might, fury and quickness beein applied. I think u need to combine them with a necro to get them cleaned easily. Aside from that some bosses should apply conditions so necro can profit from cleansing it for allies and sending back for dps boost. Just ideas but i m not a dev so what do i know.

Depends if you spec for it on a mes. They have 3 utilities that remove boons (null field, phantasmal disenchanter, arcane thievery) and sword auto chain removes 1. Also the Domination trait Shattered Concentration removes a boon per clone shattered + one nearby yourself. The trait alone + sword would be enough to deal with any boons the boss has.

Mines got to be Dark Pact (dagger #3). The 3s immobilise coupled with 2 boon corrupts and decent damage is just awesome. I’ve probably sentenced more people to death in wvw with this than any other skill I’ve used. And best of all is the animation. Probably the most necromancer themed of any skill.
What’s your favourite skill then?

The funniest thing is when you see these youtube videos in which someone gets 25 – 30k dps on the golem with a necro. Only to find they’re running full unrealistic buffs.

GS was probably intended as a pve weapon, I mean something that slow with the need for close range on an already immobile class was never going to work very well in pvp

It was pretty much designed to fill the gap of “pve melee cleave weapon” that necro lacked.

If you talking about wvw/pvp you are clearly over your head.

Dagger>>>>>>>GS
Simply because dagger dish out dmg quickly and can easly dis out more dmg auto attacking while GS auto attack finish. GD and Nightfall are not in the equation since they are so easy to dodge and avoid. Plain and simple. GS is about the burst not about the DPS it is not DPS weapon in pvp.

If someone is dying to dagger in pvp, they are trash. Also GD and nightfall cant be avoided at the end of a dodge.

Just because YOU might suck, doesn’t mean every necro does. I kill plenty of people just fine with GS. Only a blind immobile monkey will die to daggers pitiful dps.

It is almost like you talking about GS but instead of saying GS you saying daggers..

But kudos being the 10% of the Necro pvp community who think GS is effective.

Also kudos of being the 1% of the entire guildwars2 playerbase who think all ppl are stupid enough to dodge the moment you using GD.

Yeah I was somewhat vexed by his comment. GD is still hilariously easy to dodge. Hell you don’t even have to dodge, just walk out of its range. The buff changed nothing. Nightfall can also be kited quite easily, since it pulses every 2 seconds. Funny he says about Immobile monkeys considering dagger has a very powerful immobile on #3.
I tried using Greatsword on my power wells build for Wvw, but it still felt vastly inferior to dagger/warhorn.

Raids are irrelevant when Fractals yield better rewards (from what I’m told) while being open to far more classes than Raids.

Raids are another aspect of the game and even if were less rewarding than fractals are funny and we should be accepted with our class.

After the jadded horror’s nerf only with my guild i’ve been able to play raids with a necro without beign forced to swap class.

Oh I agree, we should be accepted regardless of our class. Lahmia suggested a great way to ‘force’ all classes to be accepted in Raids without really changing anything.

Check out the raid subforum. I posted the suggestion and it caused a right upheaval.

The only problem with double melee is if you get into a situation where you have to range. Don’t be like the pug Rev I had the other day in lvl 100 Nightmare fractal, that was useless 50% of the time because he used sword and staff.

That’s forcing, not encouraging you kitten. Besides, any exp raider can foretell how disastrous it would be. Think b4 you talk.

If you get any random Joe then yes it will be a disaster, get people who play those classes most of the time and it’ll be perfectly fine.

If 10 people cannot pump out over 50k DPS between them something is going hilariously wrong and it isn’t the fault of the classes.

Let me spell it out for you cause u dont kitten get the point. It’s worse than the “pidgeonhole” meta we have atm. That’s how bad it is. I don’t care if people could pull qt numbers on each profession…its just bad and 100% forced. At least now a few classes change depending on the encounter.

Yea. Forcing particular comps would be a really bad move by ANet.

Especially some sort of comp that doubled up professions. Like some sort of reflection comp.

Its because of cancelling the auto you can cast gravedigger faster than expected. Sure its mroe effort but its a an increase in how fast you can spam it.

Its always been best to use Gravedigger on cooldown, though its a bit of an art to time it so it comes off cooldown as your foe reaches 50% health.

Think you missed the mark on this one. Even now using it on cooldown is better than before because of where the after cast reduction left the “end” of the animation.

Wail of Doom (Warhorn #4 ) should have always had a blast finisher to be honest. Anet gave Ranger warhorn #5 a blast finisher years ago but overlooked giving it to Necro because “we’re not designed to have it”.

Camping Greatsword was the best dps before the patch, now its even better. From what I’ve heard Reaper’s Onslaught is still a dps loss over Deathly chill. I’d stick to gs with axe as backup. I prefer focus since I only swap to axe for when I cannot melee and warhorn is a primarily melee offhand.
Personally I find dagger better in areas where you need more sustain, your foes are harder to hit and you need to keep them snared (aka wvw or pvp). Unless its preference, there’s no point running dagger mainhand in pve. Greatsword is just so much better.

Boon corruption on nightfall is quite generous making that skill fairly stacked now.

If I may add: using Spite and Curse will also allow Nightfall to apply Vulnerability and Bleed stacks per pulse if Traited so that Blind causes Chill which in turn causes Vulnerability and Bleed. It’s not really optimal, from my testing, but it sure as heck was fun.

Sadly, Chilling Darkness (chill on blind – curses) has a 3s icd. So you will only get 2 procs from Nightfall. Interestingly, Chilling Darkness didn’t use to have an icd, pre HoT, and made Well of Darkness viable using the combo you suggested. But they nerfed it soon after and WoD has been useless ever since.

Lets face it with raids. Even the classes with slightly less dps than eles are mostly ignored (thief/guardian). Unless there is some sort of special mechanic that requires something different, like condi in VG, its almost always 2 mes, 2 druid, 2 ps war, 4 dps which are almost always eles.

With the induction of Greatsword into the Corrupt Boon Club, only Staff and Warhorn remain without. Chillblains and Wail of Doom seem like perfect candidates for this. Now to wait until next balance!

Soul Eater. It’s useless, no matter how you look at it.

It’s a 20 percent increase in damage output on non-AA greatsword skills. That’s not “useless”, other than the fact that y’all think the greatsword on reaper isn’t good.

Okay, not quite useless but that’s ignoring the fact that its up against Decimate Defenses and Chilling Victory. The only time it becomes usable is on a power greatsword necro that has a party giving 25 might and maxing out their crit chance with buffs. Which, lets face it, is almost non existent except for raids where power necro isn’t used as the norm. Even then with full zerker/scholars, spotter, disc. banner and fury – you gain 84.95% crit chance. So you’d need to put in a few pieces of assassins gear to get the remaining 15% which would then be a damage loss.

In PvE: Necro’s Focus skill Spinal Shivers because 99% of the mobs don’t have boons.

Mobs not having boons is a design issue with the game in general i think.

A lot of end game stuff can have boons though. One particular instance is the lvl 100 nightmare fractal in which enemies gain might fury and protection when they are critically hit with a 20s cooldown. Perfect job for Spinal Shivers.

Engineer Condition Damage aura

The aura would improve our group utility, but +Condi Damage is the worst of all the auras.

Power from warriors is useful on ANY build, power or condi.
Precision from Rangers is useful on ANY build, power or condi.
Lifesteal from Necros is useful on MOST builds, power or condi.
Condi is useful ONLY on condi builds.

Keep this in mind.

Okay it’s a stretch but some power builds have traits that proc conditions and so a condi damage aura would improve their dps, if only slightly.

Condi duration aura would be better.
It would improve the application of soft CC like chill and cripple for breakbar disruption and would help with vul stacking… while also helping with the condi dmg for condi builds…

The only problem with that would be that it would become less useful to the builds it was meant for, aka condi builds as they would likely already have capped their condi duration.

Engineer Condition Damage aura

The aura would improve our group utility, but +Condi Damage is the worst of all the auras.

Power from warriors is useful on ANY build, power or condi.
Precision from Rangers is useful on ANY build, power or condi.
Lifesteal from Necros is useful on MOST builds, power or condi.
Condi is useful ONLY on condi builds.

Keep this in mind.

Okay it’s a stretch but some power builds have traits that proc conditions and so a condi damage aura would improve their dps, if only slightly.

Reaper’s relentless pursuit trait.
Lower movement impairing conditions durations mean nothing when everything can kite you easily and you can’t close the gap easily at all.
It will only be slightly more useful if it gives you total immunity to movement impairing conditions.

Yeah I’m gonna say its actually one of Reaper’s best traits, especially for WvW where, with the right combination of runes and food, you can gain immunity to snare whilst in shroud.

To redesign the necroancer ould mean to change it totally. While I think it could be better, I woul lose it’s actual identity.

IMO;

  1. Necromancer’s current identity is as fodder for every other class.
  2. Nobody will complain about identity when if they can compete in fights.

Pretty sure Ranger being the monk of gw2 wasn’t part of original ranger identity either.

I’d be fine if they both went up to 750 range. 900 might be a bit much and 1200 definitely way too much.

It’ll also depend on the implementation of the condi aura as well. For example if it’s a trait, it may get engie’s a spot back in raids, but the cost may be to run a ‘mandatory’ condi aura trait, in a now mandatory trait line.

If AngelsShadow.7360 is right then it’ll be in Arms replacing 10% of precision into condi damage.
