Dhuumfire?

Spite goes hand in hand with a dhuumfire build since so much of spite revolves around making yourself stronger by spamming Shroud 1, which I mean, if you’re set on using dhuumfire for PvE, you’re going to be doing a lot of.

Did some testing on this, and think I found a happy medium.

Spite definitely makes a difference on more solo-oriented PvE content. Between the might-stacking and Blighter’s Boon, it seems to be quite good (at least from what I’ve noticed).

I think in fractal/raid groups – especially if there’s a PS Warrior or another heavy might-stacker – BM tends to work better. The might-stacking doesn’t seem to help as much if you’re already capped on might.

Could still be missing something, but your advice was helpful.

Maybe its just my own experience but I never see ps warriors or any idea of might gives in fractals anymore. Elitism went out the window with HoT release and it seems most people bringing party support went with it.
I just prepare to be self-sufficient, like bringing Bitter chill instead of Spiteful Talisman, so less than 25 vuln isn’t a problem.

The quickness on furious demise is way too powerful, considering you can get shroud down to a 7s cooldown. That’s almost 50% party quickness uptime with curses and soul reaping, and 0% boon duration. The aoe fury is a good idea though.

I believe there wont be any major changes due to the developers working on the next Expansion. So all major changes will be on that Xpac update and will pretty much ignore the base class till then.

they did this with Necromancer and Ranger up to the release of the first expansion.

So just bite on something for now. I believe we getting something good.

Did necromancers get anything good?

They got a garbage greatsword nobody uses outside open world PvE because it’s so terrible, and the reaper traitline is a PvP traitline. Reaper shouts are worthless in raids and reaper got no % damage increase traits, reaper shroud is a DPS loss to just camping autoattack on greatsword which is already bad DPS.

Don’t think for a second an expansion will mean good changes.

Rangers wanted a viable DPS spec, and instead they forced them to be healbots.

Did hey say good changes? He said major changes. So calm down and i think he is 100% right. Necro and druid got huge changes.

What’s the point in major changes if they’re not good changes?

As for druid, at least they are viable in more than one spot for raids, currently. While I’ll always love and play necro, it does kitten me off that they’re supposed to be the selfish dps class yet they have the 2nd lowest dps in the game and very little party support, whereas the favoured child of Anet has top dps and some of the best party support in the game.

No skill will get you through this fight only luck, it’s just badly designed.

Kind of insulting to the players who managed it with relative ease. And hypocritical considering your reply to Auburn.2456. It was an interesting fight that kept you on your toes but nothing to write home about.

Relative ease depending on what class you play!

And how you play it. Gotta adapt to the situation. If there’s a tonne of CC bring stability and stun breaks. If there’s a lot of aoe, bring blocks/evades or vigor.

For general PvE use I’d say Flesh golem is best. It has better CC than Chilled to the bone and does ok damage + cripple. If you’re going WvW then take Cttb. Can’t speak for PvP, I haven’t done it since HoT release.

Warrior is already OP and shield is already the most OP offhand for warrior in GW2 PvP/WvW. Lets not make the warrior and shield even more OP please.

I’d gladly trade your warrior shield skills for my guardian shield skills. Shield on guard is nice, but shield on warrior is so much better, lol.

Whenever we see a warrior, in wvw, running into a tower and tanking all the damage with blocks/resistance/damage immunity, I always imagine the warrior saying “It’s all skill, I swear.”

I’d be very happy with this. I just suggested attack speed since it is the most common complaint about Greatsword. I’d still want life steal from soul eater though, since every other Greatsword trait has 3 buffs (usually +x% damage, cooldown reduction and 1 special extra). I feel naked without any life steal to sustain me.

I guess the people wanting changes to staff don’t play wvw, the place it has been meta since day 1. No changes needed to auto or #2. Cooldown shave on #5 would be nice though.

WvW isn’t the only mode that matters last time I checked. It’s just one mode, and a mode that isn’t very well-balanced at that. The staff is mediocre everywhere else. Staff buffs should happen, even if they’re only in PvP (PvE buffs would be nice too, if it were split from WvW).

- Wave of Wrath is used primarily for farming, enough said. If you don’t think there’s something wrong with that, then I don’t know what more to tell you. Unless you think easy trash mob farming is more important than making the weapon do what its supposed to be doing (supporting) for the players who are actually using it seriously.
- Orb of Light has been bugged for ages, and it should probably be ground-targeted for aiming-related purposes (although it shouldn’t hug the ground). It could probably use a few non-QoL buffs too.
- Line of Warding did get a cooldown decrease (in PvP only).
- Symbol of Swiftness has flawed design, and Empower could use a range increase or allow for limited mobility.

By farming, do you mean tagging mobs? Because that’s the primary wvw use. It is such an effective attack when used on mass. Every skill is pretty much built for wvw (aside from #2).
#1: perfect for hitting lots of players in a wvw environment.
#3: great for stacking swiftness, especially on a zerg while on the move.
#4: 12 stacks of might allies, also used to sustain with altruistic healing. Yes anet could buff by removing the rooting, but other than that, it is perfect.
#5: Great for stopping fleeing groups or cutting zergs in half. Less viability with all the stability and the nerf of 10 person cap, but still decent. Cooldown for pvp only was silly given that it only has use in pvp and wvw, and is basically useless in pve.

I’d rather the current RO attack speed increase just effect greatsword in addition to its current effects. It may not make us a meta raid dps class but it may make greatsword more viable in other game modes.

Maybe Relentless Pursuit + Reaper’s Onslaught could do more, together.

For increased greatsword speed, maybe add it to Deathly Chill. RO is shroud-focused.

No problem speeding up greatsword, though, just pulling ideas out of the bag.

I just got the idea from speed boost mushrooms whilst mapping HoT with my greatsword and thought why not take the easy route and adapt RO so it includes GS in for the attack speed buff, rather than buffing a certain useless trait which has to compete with Decimate Defenses and Chilling Victory.

So add something more to a trait already taken instead of buffing the under preforming trait that is actually related to the weapon and meaning you have to sacrifice something between 3 now valid choices ? Sure…

My original idea did involve reverting Soul Eater to its old beta form (because small life steal across all attacks is better than life steal tied to 1 attack) but with the 20% cooldown reduction instead of the gravedigger 3%, and to include the 10 or 15% increased attack speed on greatsword.
I’d be very happy with either of my suggested changes, but the RO change is just that much more simple.

Now, we’ve hardly crossed the start, but I’m already speculating what the finish line would look like.

My thought is something along the line of:
>All elder dragons are defeated, and their powers are usurped some by Aurene, but mostly by Lazarus.
>Lazarus knows there must be an elder dragon and intended to be the role.
>Lazarus realizes the world has been in chaos for too long it needs all races working together to stop a centralized evil so they can start with a clean sheet, but united.
>Lazarus becomes the necessary evil, intentionally making everyone hate him as the most demi-evil thing ever to walk the earth, so he could die in battle with Aurene and have Aurene become to the true elder dragon
>Lazarus dies, taking the concept of villainy with him, making Aurene the ultimate good.

Possible, or even plausible?

I like the Doctor Manhattan style ending for Lazarus. I just don’t want him to die. Lazarus is love, Lazarus is life.

Plus the trait is fine as it is. Its already one of the move powerful movement impairing condition reduction traits in the game.

Which is something you don’t need in PvE…because there’s very little source of movement reduction and whatever there is is quickly cleansed.

My suggestion for the speed boost is one of many. I’d love a DPS addition since Reaper as a tratiline is a steaming pile of garbage with no % damage modifiers and miserably bad traits, many of which are also redundant in group PvE play.

Part of the reason why power reaper is bad in PvE and condi reaper isn’t that much farther ahead.

How reaper didn’t get a +10% damage vs chilled foes, I do not know.

I thought we were talking about Reaper’s Onslaught for a minute and had a bit of a giggle.

Relentless Pursuit is a fine trait. If I wanted to buff it, I’d put at most a few seconds of Swiftness on it when entering DS, but it doesn’t need that at all.

Maybe add +33% movement speed whilst wielding a Greatsword for the lolz.

As much as the forums likes to pretend that wvw is dead (yet it pulls more people at peak than pvp), Relentless pursuit is a godsend there. With condi reduction food and runes you can gain a complete immunity to snares. So I vote for no change at all.

Well it wouldn’t be the first time a traditionally melee weapon was used as a ranged weapon. Mesmer Greatsword and Revenant Hammer both fit the profile. I would say axe too but there are actually more ranged versions of axe than melee.

One thing, for Dual Wielding at least, is that it decreases the aftercast as well as increasing attack speed. So it does have some effect if you have quickness.

Quickness doesn’t work in quite the way one might expect.

It increases action per second, rather than a reduction in cast times.

So a skill that takes 1 second to complete ( including aftercast) means 1 action per second.

Applying quickness should make that action take ~ 0.66 seconds to complete. Leaving time to complete 50% of the skills activation again. Resulting in 1.5 actions per second ( a 50% increase over 1 action per second).

So if your skill takes 0.9s to cast, and 0.1s after cast.
Applying the reduction of 33% to the cast time ( but not the after cast), then adding to the after cast would yield a complete cast time of 0.7s

So 1.5 actions would effectively take 0.7 + 0.45 ( 0.7/2) or 1.15 seconds for 1.5 actions.
Resulting in ~1.4 actions per second ( not 1.5 actions/sec).
the trait should not further reduce aftercast ( in it’s current state of not stacking with quickness).

TLDR:
if what you are saying is correct, either: after cast reductions are already stacking; or quickness is borked and needs fixing to reduce after cast times as well.

After going frame by frame with the video, it appears that the assault on DR is not from Queensdale but from an area we haven’t explored yet. It looks to be directly north of CM judging by the terrain, angle of the mountains facing DR and the fact that centaurs are charging in, in one shot. Since centaur homeland is in Harathi and it’s directly next to that space above CM…. well I think that’s a pretty good chance it is. The new area may even extend all the way around DR to the north and west. So it seems at least a small part of the Woodland Cascade is being explored.

Its the area that Lake Doric was. Notice the shot at 0:52 of the bloodstone catapult firing. The glass dome of the central plaza is visable as well as the royal palace to the right of it and kormir high road the the left.

That would put the catapult on the East side of DR, not the west side which was the Lake Doric map.

alright so I’m going to try to follow this argument logically. pinsnipers say “lol your commander dies and you don’t have a backup driver”. so what if you do have a backup driver, or 4? all you have to do is switch targets, then you can continue to grind the fight to a halt.

anyway, best snipe is 2 necro corrupt boon 2 hamrev CoR + 1 other. or the d/d thief duo.

Best snipe is 60+ pinsnipers, sheesh everyone is so far behind the meta these days…..

In particular, 60+ rangers, the best meta zerger.

The only meta countered by 1 wall of reflection.

Honestly, I’d say rabid with krait runes and an agony sigil. I’d prefer having condi damage as a main stat rather than precision (unless you actually plan on raiding in said gear, then Rampagers is better). But since its a stop gap until you get viper/sinister, it probably doesn’t matter too much.

Never liked the Dhuumfire as it is now. Necro has no traits to support burning and you get very little burning from what is a “Grandmaster” trait. Never worth it IMO.

I’d love if they reverted it to be like Incendiary Powder again.

Shroud bug 2017

I will say I am absolutely 100% dead against any kind of split second cooldown upon entering shroud. They already tried it with reapers shroud in beta and people hated it.

Not on entering shroud. On exiting shroud.

As in you enter shroud, but will not be able to exit for another 1/4th second after you entered.
I honestly cannot think of a situation where you would willingly want to enter and then exit shroud within a quarter of a second.

I say this because I’ve been told in the past that the bug is because the game will “queue” skills in order to making casting more fluid. However with instant no CD abilities like the enter-exit shroud the game will sometimes both activate the ability and queue it at the same time.

Yes that’s what I said. They added a cooldown, in beta, so you couldn’t doubled tap shroud. And people hated it, they they removed it.

As I recall, it was hated because the condi builds had no reason to stay in shroud, but benefited from the fury that entering shroud provided.

Now that condi builds have a reason to stay in shroud, that issue probably doesn’t exist for most builds.

And flash shroud builds too. If it is a bug then anet should fix it. If not then I see no reason why anet should cater to people who can’t stop themselves double tapping shroud. That would make it a l2p issue. Same with those that run Unholy Santuary but tap out of shroud when it procs because they panicked.

They don’t stack with quickness because quickness gets you to the attack speed cap. You can’t get any faster than that currently. And honestly this would be broken if these traits stacked with quickness.

And it used to be 100% cap, pre quickness nerf. So its not a case of they cant increase the cap to accommodate said traits.
That being said it would be easier just to rework them.

if you guys are getting hit hard by epidemic over and over again… maybe you could create a party that deals with those necros.

If you want to get down to it you can keep the necro pt stealth because epidemic dose no dmg so there IS no pt that can deal with the necors if you realty want to get down to it. Maybe a 0 power dmg necor group who are all condi that stay stealth though scraper gyros and or thf blasting etc…

Condi dmg is broken on many levels epidemic makes it soo much worst.

Umm necros have to hit to be able to apply conditions, thereby removing stealth. So no, that isn’t viable. The only reason you are demanding a nerf to epi and conditions is because its the only thing that can counter the current tank meta.

Is it really that hard to remember a build? I get that convenience is nice, but wouldn’t it just make the whole copy builds from metabattles even worse. People wouldn’t even need to look at which traits they take with a build saver.

The current meta for zerging has moved from power to condi. Spiking a target with loads of conditions and then spamming epidemic is the in thing. Since zergs run super tanky nowadays (I’m talking organised zergs, pug zergs don’t count) power necro has fallen out of favour due to the low damage it does against tanky targets. Condi is especially good when taking out siege, as you can epi off siege (which cannot condi clear).

Raids: we still have uses in ones we were used in before (vg/sloth/matthias/xera). Other more dps heavy fights are still usually restricted but groups will still allow us.
Fractals: you often see “condi necro only” parties for t4s. We are arguably kings of pug t4 fractals.
WvW: I can’t say much for roaming, but the current zerg meta is ultra tanky with necros spamming conditions and epidemic bombing. It has made lots of people qq about how powerful epidemic and necro is.

So no we are in a pretty good state for those modes I’ve listed.

Ooo this was very fun. A particular [HOPE] necro kept running at us and dying. Kept punting him off the cliffs with Banish. Good times.

While many hate this current scoring system, I’ve seen far closer results because of it and a lot more action on the final days because of it. Many matchups have turned around in the last few hours. So I will say I’m one of the few that prefers it.

Shroud bug 2017

I will say I am absolutely 100% dead against any kind of split second cooldown upon entering shroud. They already tried it with reapers shroud in beta and people hated it.

Not on entering shroud. On exiting shroud.

As in you enter shroud, but will not be able to exit for another 1/4th second after you entered.
I honestly cannot think of a situation where you would willingly want to enter and then exit shroud within a quarter of a second.

I say this because I’ve been told in the past that the bug is because the game will “queue” skills in order to making casting more fluid. However with instant no CD abilities like the enter-exit shroud the game will sometimes both activate the ability and queue it at the same time.

Yes that’s what I said. They added a cooldown, in beta, so you couldn’t doubled tap shroud. And people hated it, they they removed it.

Hi all,

We’re wrapping up work on Episode 4 of Living World Season 3 and expect to launch it in February, hitting our normal cadence of a new episode every 2~3 months. I want to give a quick heads-up here on a few topics that I know the community is anticipating, things that will and won’t be bundled with this episode.

This release will include the promised fix to AB multi-looting. The fix is simple: you can loot each of the great and grand chests once each time you complete the meta, once per map cycle.

This release will also include a new, challenging group-farming spot for leather.

This release won’t include legendary armor. We’re getting close to completion, though, and may be able to ship legendary armor with the Ep5 release.

This release won’t include a skill balance update. As we did last time, we’ll ship the next skill balance update off-cycle from Living World releases.

Okay then. I’ve just yet to witness it though, and I’m on my necro for 99% of my playtime.

I will say I am absolutely 100% dead against any kind of split second cooldown upon entering shroud. They already tried it with reapers shroud in beta and people hated it.

If it is a bug, hopefully anet will fix asap and that will be the end of that.
