I’ve only encountered a few instances where there was actual conflict and it seemed to be people just so stubborn that they’d rather work to the detriment of each other in order to be right.

Agreed. This problem seems to be pretty rare. I do TD meta most days and haven’t had this problem in a while. It was worse when Flax farming was more common and people camped the great tree nodes.

Pretty happy with my GS. Best leap, 2 whirl finishers, lots of AOE.
If we’re talking fixes I’d like to see mace not be awful

They just patched mace even though it’s still useless in every game mode.

It makes for a nice wvw zerg weapon alongside shield for a tanky communal defence/pure of heart aegis spam build.

To redesign the necroancer ould mean to change it totally. While I think it could be better, I woul lose it’s actual identity.

Nevertheless, If I had the right to chose I’d make it simple.
F1 : use LF as a health bubble. (an health shield)
F2 : use LF to enhance personnal damage. (a personnal buff)
F3 : use LF as a mean of support. (an “aura”)

Each of those 3 skills being traitable. No more transform thingy or whatever, just that.

Kinda like a dark version of guardian virtues. I’d love that (virtues are my favourite profession mechanic, whilst guardian is my 2nd favourite profession behind necro).

condi-terrormancer fell out of use when they changed traits to specializations.
Dire can still be used as a cheaper less effective version of Trailblazers.
Perplexity runes were nerfed (6. inflicts confusion on heal skill use instead of interupt).

Condi epidemic necro is currently one of the meta builds in wvw zerg fights: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Reaper_-_Epidemic is the build.

Making auto so it slightly hits out of its own range (like many bows, ele fireball etc) so it can be used to hit SMC inner cannons. I always feel useless when the zerg is cannon killing and im sat their with no range high enough to hit them.

I think a Glint based fractal could be kittening awesome! It could either be a group trying to get through Glint’s Lair back when she was alive to talk to her (perhaps even the Master of Peace trying to get the egg?), or a boss fractal surrounding Destiny’s Edge trying to go kill Glint, and then she talks to them and convinces them that she wants to help. As long as it features Glint’s Domain I think it could be pretty kitten awesome as a fractal.

We did actually visit Glint’s domain in Season 2: Echoes of the past (Hidden Arcana). They could easily use it as a new fractal.

power necro trouble

I seem to only kill thief on power necro duo to everything proc-ing below 50% hp (suffer, chill of death, chilling nova, fire, air, spiteful spirit+ death’s charge random swings and getting stuck in place with immob) which sometimes can surprise them

or Ghastly Claws surprise

otherwise i dont feel like it were my skill that killed the thief when i play power necro.

I think I’ve killed more thieves whilst I’m in down state than while I’m standing.

Signet passives should work in shroud and cool down for all 6 -0 and F-keys should be visible at all times.
SoU needs a drastic cast time reduction.
PS needs a mechanic tweak to prevent the user from being overwhelmed in PvE and WvW.

Wells need another active effect such as reflect and the protection when traited should be doubled in duration.
WoD is horribly weak and needs a large buff while Chilling Darkness should probably be reversed to blind in chill.

Your ideas for elite skills are interesting but there is low-hanging fruit I wish Arenanet would get to work on.

I guess mechanically it can’t atm because it is a form.

They didn’t seem to have that problem with the Druid’s Celestial Avatar. :-P

Then its likely they think it would be overpowered then.

I guess mechanically it can’t atm because it is a form. If they allowed Signet passives, it would probably easier just to allow utilities instead which they may see as overpowered.

Most res skills have similar cast times.

Give WoD a projectile block. I’m surprised Anet didn’t add this when they buffed Corrosive poison cloud. It makes for a great power alternative to cpc which isn’t something you want to run with the self 6s weakness.
As for doubling well duration I’ve always thought they should do the opposite but double the effects. I don’t see wells are underpowered at all (except WoD) but often foes will walk out of them before their duration is up.

Probably because they can be salvaged into valuable materials (t3 leather is 3.6s per raw piece, t4 4.6s a piece, t3 raw cloth is 3s a piece, t4 4.7s a piece).

This isn’t restricted to teleports. I often get “obstructed” on projectile attacks when I have a clear line of sight. Utter kitten.

The best thing is seeing obstructed pop up using a melee skill next to a mob in the middle of flat ground.

It’s most fun when using something like Deathly Swarm to transfer conditions to your foe, only for it to be obstructed and you’re stuck with them.

You seem new to the game, so before you invest too much time in the Necromancer class let me try to help you understand the design philosophy behind the class.

The Necromancer class is essentially Harry Potter when he’s living with the Dursley family. Uncle Vernon, (Anet), absolutely despises Harry and keeps him locked up in the tiny room below the stairs so he’s out of sight and won’t cause any trouble.

At the start of the HoT expansion, due to an oversight with one the Lich Form abilities, (Uncle Vernon forgot to lock the door), Necromancers finally got to taste the sweet DPS cake after several years of neglect.

Mid october last year, uncle Vernon found the key and once again the door was locked, even the tiny window was barred. All Harry has left now is the fading memory of that sweet, sweet cake.

You can forget all about cake you wretched child, you will not have any!

And Harry dreamed up being a Wizard to cope with the neglect, just as us necromancers dream up of balances/buffs to make us more viable.

Necro/Reaper changes

-Traits-

=Spite=

Death’s Embrace – Change health threshold to 50%.
Now in line with with Siphoned Power.

=Curses=

Chilling Darkness – Remove ICD.
Nerfed originally due to one game mode pre HoT. Only trait that made Well of Darkness viable.

=Blood Magic=

Blood Bond – Added a +5% damage buff vs bleeding foes.
Increases the offensive ability of this trait and makes for a more obvious damage trait.

=Soul Reaping=

Strength of Undeath – Move to Major second tier trait. Change to you deal +10% damage while in shroud. Shroud skill recharge is decreased by 20%.
Original trait felt counter productive as the only way to keep the damage buff permanantly was by staying out of shroud.

Vital Persistence – Move to Minor third tier trait. Change to Max Life force is increased by 15%. Life Force drains 50% slower in shroud.
Made a baseline trait as the Life Force degen was a must on all builds that used Soul Reaping.

=Reaper=

Soul Eater – Change trait. Steal life whenever you corrupt or remove a boon.
Makes for a decent contender over Decimate Defenses and Chilling Victory. Greatsword reduced recharge will be made baseline.

Cold Shoulder – Move the Chilled duration increase to Shivers of Dread. Add a damage increase of 10% to chilled foes.
Added a damage increase due to the lack of damage traits for Necromancers.

Reaper’s Onslaught – Attack speed increase now affects Greatsword.
Allows for a decent trait for Greatsword, making it more viable in non pve situations, without changing the trait itself.

Deathly Chill – Added an additional bleeding stack per chill.
This trait felt undertuned.

=Greatsword Skills=

Chilling Scythe – Added a boon strip.
Added to emphasise boon stripping on power necromancers.

=Sceptre Skills=

Grasping Dead – Added a 3 second dark combo field that pulses bleeding (8s) and cripple (1s).
Added to increase necromancer condition power but through fields rather than direct hits.

=Dagger Skills=

Enfeebling blood – Added a 3 second poison combo field that pulses bleeding (8s) and weakness (1s).
Added to increase necromancer condition power but through fields rather than direct hits.

=Shroud Skills=

Death’s Charge – Remove projectile destruction. Now evades for the duration of the skill.
Projectile destruction was unreliable and buggy.

-Healing Skills-

Consume Conditions – Traiting this with Master of Corruptions now grants an additional 5 stacks of vulnerability for 4 seconds instead of blind.
Blind on trait made this a horrid skill to use but more vuln means an increase chance for enemies to spike.

Well of Blood – Add a small damage co-efficiant.
With a damage co-efficiant, Well of Blood will now trigger Vampiric and Vampiric Aura to make it a more desirable heal.

-Utility Skills-

Spectral Grasp – Increase projectile velocity to match Spear of Justice and decrease cast time.
Completely unreliable in it’s current incarnation.

Well of Darkness – Add a small damage co-efficiant. Now blocks projectiles.
Can be used on power builds to counter projectile users, instead of CPC, and can trigger vampiric/vampiric aura.

Well of Power – Add a small damage co-efficiant.
With a damage co-efficiant, Well of Power will now trigger Vampiric and Vampiric Aura.

-Elite Skills-

Lich Form – Remove Lich Form. Split into two new Elite skills:

Signet of Horrors – Passive: Generate Life Force when you strike a foe. ICD 1s. Active: Inflict damage on up to 5 foes within 600 radius. Create a jagged horror for each foe hit. 60s CD. 1/2s cast time.

Grim Sceptre – (spectral elite) same as original Lich Form skill 5. 60s CD.

Regarding DG’s suggestions,

Making staff AA be a projectile finisher 100% of the time sounds good. Projectile speed should be equivalent to other staff AAs. Rather than making it unique, I would add a 20% chance to corrupt a boon.

Staff 2, MoB, put back the original bleed stack. Condition clearing is much more prevalent than it was after game release and any fool who camps staff for bleeds deserves the result.

I would, however, still want regeneration to generate LF while in shroud.

Every 5th attack. Don’t bring rng into the game. Otherwise youll eventually get a 8x streak of boon rips and destroy someone you didn’t deserve to kill. And get killed by someone who didn’t deserve to kill you.

If anything should get a boon rip on staff, it should be Chillblains. I mean anet loves themes and Chillblains was an enchantment rip in gw1. Then give greatsword auto 3 a boon rip so every mainhand/two handed necro weapon has access to boon rip.

Although the stacking issue is, well, an issue, one thing I would like to see is a way to use the auras from the Ghostly and new Ice outfits… without wearing the outfits…

Likewise, I’d like to have the auras from the shoulder pieces whilst wearing an outfit.

All I want is the Frostbite visual effect from Snowblind as an aura. And before you say the “winter’s heart infusion” does this, no it doesn’t. Frostbite has a more apparent visual effect and doesn’t mess with your eye or hair colour, only your skin.

get used to it. GS is a kitten weapon, and is easily countered because of bad design on all fronts.

Don’t take pvp seriously in this game, its a joke, and the reason that this game has such low twitch viewers, streamers, and tournaments have such a low turn out.

Why dodge them? With HoT builds and Ascended gear, it’s often just as fast to melt them down than run past them. Gets you more loot too.

Like that one part in AC p3. People always skip the last mob of Graveling breeders and Grast always get stuck on them. It’s always far quicker to just kill the 3 rather than trying to get the npc to deaggro.

General PvE Build

Quick question about the d/wh setup.

How do you deal with ranged engagements, or enemies that you want to fight at range?

If I want to fight at range I wouldn’t play power, condi is so much better for that. The build I previously linked have enough crowd control built in that I rarely find myself in a situation where I can’t stay in melee. The exception would be a few of the Hero Point champions in the HoT maps, but only if you’re soloing them.

I suppose “General PvE” is pretty broad, it could include world bosses like Claw of Jormag that won’t allow you to be in melee for extended periods of time, then I’d use the staff, same goes for The Mega Destroyer. As I see it though, with power reaper you have access to so much utility, both offensive and defensive. I don’t really feel the need to be at range for general open world solo play as power reaper. Still, if you are farming events with a group then I find the staff is handy for tagging as many mobs as possible.

Basically the reason I never go double melee. Sure its the highest dps rotation, but since when does pve allow you to do a perfect rotation? Especially in HoT maps, where things will easily down you if you do not kite, and then you won’t be doing any damage if you are kiting. So best bring a ranged option.
I suggest axe/focus (best single target).

While it’s not bad advice, I’d be compelled to use traits better tailored for axe and focus when using them as one of the weapon sets. I feel the trade off makes you lose much of your AoE vulnerability application as well as the CC from warhorn. But that’s just personal preference.

Yeah I generally bring Unholy Fervor if I take axe. I prefer Bitter Chill over Spiteful Talisman for general pve though, since I’m unlikely to keep up 25 vuln without BC, so it is actually a dps gain.

They nerfed Dragonhunter though… what they did buff was base guardian virtues and staff skills. Let’s be real though, base guardian virtues are trash when compared to Dragonhunter and buffing them won’t really do much except maybe bring back a support guardian… and base guardians don’t even have the annoying traps… traps….. which now won’t even daze you now. Hallelujah.

I hope what this means is that they are looking at base specs so hopefully Deathshroud will receive buffs as well. Putting down a bet – if Deathshroud does get buffs next patch, I will give everyone on this forum 1000 gold.

They’re slowly nerfing most OP things, which imo is a good thing. The process took a long @$$ time (1 year lmfao).

I wouldn’t exactly call traps losing daze and gaining slow a “nerf”. it’s basically the same thing, except now i can’t ignore it with stability. honestly, I find it to be more annoying than the daze

The main thing I’ve been hearing is that, because it can no longer interrupt stomps and res’ing, it is considered an overall nerf.

Energy needs to stay, CD’s need to go. Both on weapons and utilities.

Putting in CDs ruined the class.

As already mentioned, CD’s were already on the class, and taking them off of weapons would break things terribly.

Being able to use s3 multiple times in a row would be massively OP, or SotM. Weapons need CD’s, though I think some are a bit harsh, and there are some utilities that need their CD’s removed, especially some of the high energy ones.

What if they removed the energy cost on weapons, would that be balanced or would cooldowns be increased to balance it?

This one for the ones that say it works, ok, then after major trait proc, I press esc – the menu appears, after weapon stow nothing happens, nor for any other buttons. Also, it only works this way in spvp/mist island?

I tested in Pve and it is the same. Can’t cancel via stow or esc.

No this is so dumb!
When I do long jumps I like holding down the spacebar!
That is how I play games that have Jump…

You use the controls wrong so the game is being dumb? Ok…

Another l2p issue. You’re used to holding spacebar despite the fact it doesn’t add any distance to the jump.

Exactly. Learn not to hold space bar for jumping. Problem solved.
Most jumping puzzles disable gliding anyway..

I’m NOT using the controls wrong noob.
This is how I use the controls since GW2 beta when doing jumping puzzles. This is how I played it before the stupid gliders came into the game. I shouldn’t be forced to use a jump key any different because they added a gliding option which btw still cannot be disabled by choice.

Problem is people play and use keys differently and this is how I use it.
This system is BROKEN…
It needs FIXING…
Best FIX is to ADD 3 Options I suggested:

Option#1 – Double-tap spacebar to glide
Option#2 – Hold spacebar to glide
Option#3 – Keybind a key to glide

PROBLEM SOLVED….

If you like how it is now then great… But I don’t and I’m not the only one… I mess up a lot because of this stupid gliding system and my suggestion simply adds options for players to play the way they want that works best for them. What works best for me is double tapping spacebar and/or keybinding glider to avoid turning my jumps into glide when doing jumping puzzles.

So because you’re too stubborn to evolve your key usage, you expect Anet to change it around you?
edit: and yes I used to have this problem, I would hold space for too long. However I’ve gotten used to it now.

Berserker or Viper post-nerf?

After the nerf, I went back to Berserker. While not the best dps in the game, you can take a hell of a lot more damage than other high dps professions despite being full glass yourself (especially in T4 fractals where Eles and thieves tend to get 1 shot).

A death themed Greatsword. Totally grimdark/gothic themed, with a ghostly green or blue trail effect (similar to spectral walk but disappearing much quicker). Then maybe a sound effect when you swing the blade (ghostly screams or something along those lines). For the footfalls it would have miniature versions of the blackened Grasping Dead effect complete with skeletal hands. Upon unsheathing the blade ghosts fly out of the blade (similar ghosts to the spirit quest tonic) and will occasionally reappear, flying past the user (like the ravens on Nevermore).

Was my idea for the next Greatsword.
