Personally, I think female Charr do secretly like pretty things, I imagine a Male charr showing his affection for his chosen mate with the gift of a highly engraved/jeweled weapon he saw her longing for at the weaponsmith’s. She likes pretty, as long as it’s pretty and DEADLY

This kinda makes me wonder… are charr even opposed to ‘pretty’ things, or does pretty just more or less coincide with ‘functional’ to them? I never really paid any attention to it, but now I wonder, if you go around and poke all the NPCs working on some kind of tank/cannon/thing in various zones, do they imply they like the aesthetics of it?

Some kid’s icky, flaky, crusty scab isn’t the same thing as a warrior’s glorious battle wound. I don’t see anything wrong with a young charr cub having this reaction, warrior culture or no. Children are silly – the same cub who was squicked by the other cub’s scab would probably ooh and aah over a soldier’s bloody gash, the same way a human child might gleefully roll around in the mud in their backyard, then later get upset when they spill a little ice cream on their clean clothes.

(Well, childhood experiences may vary, but that describes my young self pretty accurately.)

The way I see it, the “wanna see my scab?” comment isn’t that different from saying “wanna see my wart?” Gross. No thank you sir.

Did you grow up in Yugoslavia or something? O__o

Only a WvW player will spend hours escorting a dolyak, or running supply, because the team needs it.

“This is a test of your emergency broadcast system” or some kind of weird raid siren. That is what it sounds like to my guild. Even more annoying is that it seems to happen in one speaker rather than stereo. It is often accompanied by the inability to move.

Huh. I’ve never had it stop me from moving. I’ve had the game simply forget to let me move on occasion, but using a movement skill seems to remind it in that case, and it never went along with bugged sound.

Also, is it possible to petition ANET to make that noise into an air raid siren? Because that would be hilarious.

Weirdly enough I did the ‘one below max quality’ thing and never had it again, while iirc my brother did this and it still recurred. I guess the threshold for it might differ depending on your machine?

Folks.

Simple solution. Log out of game. Go into your documents>GW2 folder.

Look for a file called local.dat

Delete it.

Let game reload it.

This file is your UI settings file, but for whatever reason, it grows daily. After a period of time it gets too big and corrupts apparently. If it’s larger than 15mb, that’s your culprit.

Deleting this file has worked for countless people. The only hassle is you’ll have to go back in and readjust your settings after it reloads.

Adjusting the sound settings works for a while, but ultimately the sound bug returns. The only way I know to get rid of it is deleting this file.

Although in this case it could just be coincidence, but having said that I just looked and that file is a little over 40mb for me. So if it is, I must be pretty lucky.

IMO the best use of that trait is getting the 10% damage to bleeding targets without using a weapon that bleeds by default, like axe for example. I’ll sometimes use axe and select the +50% bleed duration trait, and with its fast attacks if I’m using a reasonably high crit build there’s bleeds up almost constantly in PvE and still pretty often against other players.

The timer brings up a bar that slowly decreases, not sure if it tells you what actual time it gives you. It gives you the option to move to the back of the queue, enter the place you queued for, or leave the queue altogether. And it stays on your screen until you pick one, so as for trying to get out of combat when it comes up, YMMV. You could try moving it out of the way I guess, depending on how much space it takes up on your screen.

I care less and less how much skill they have at playing it the longer they hang around doing it while I’m sorting through my bank and selling stuff. Using a bell should make you attackable… then we can weed out the annoying ones a bit…

That or give the ability to throw fruit at them and interrupt their bell-ringing.

Run that build in sPvP, and you put zero pressure on the enemy at the expensive of living a bit longer.

I haven’t had much trouble with it, but I only go to pvp to screw around anyway since it feels like playing in a lab. I mean I like pvp in general but when it’s like some kind of isolated minigame inside the rest of the game and makes no difference to the outside part… well… I don’t care. It’s like a testing ground for balance.

Weirdly enough it seems to live longer and hurt more than my guardian… but then, I had to abandon the group buff altruistic healing build I was trying to use with that because getting more than one teammate at a time close enough to buff is like herding cats.

Well, if you want to take it that way, I just personally logged into the game, got into a fight with a random invader and logged out. Guess what, no repair bills, no death. Quite the revelation.

Why? If you’re implying it hasn’t happened to anyone at all, shouldn’t we be seeing more opposition to any method of countering the problem? For that matter, especially one that actually works during any real fight instead of only on people who press two keys so slowly that they can’t do it before they’re downed (lol…)

There was a Dzagonur guy inside a building just now that we had owned for at least a few hours. We had our entire borderlands, then the breakout thing started and they formed a zerg with hardly any of us around, and this was the latest thing they were attacking. Hadn’t been lost and retaken, no way he was hiding. We chased him around in circles for a bit smacking him and he jumped off the wall.

I take it there are still exploits to breaching towers then?

There was official confirmation from an anet developer in one of the threads that the insta-kill on DC only applies WHEN YOU ARE DOWNED. I remember this, because someone specifically raised the concern of whether or not logging out in combat mode will kill you.

Then why are people getting repair bills for DC? Hell, why did someone (forget the name, read upthread) get killed by the queue from BL to EB?

If that’s what it’s officially supposed to do, it isn’t working. And to be honest that sounds like a terrible fix anyway, because people could just alt+f4 before they get downed.

Citation needed. I haven’t seen anyone complain about repair bills for DC until I came across this thread. It’s not a perfect fix, but people rarely have time to alt/f4 before they get downed. If you have time to consider whether or not its worth quitting to save repair bills at the cost of several minutes waiting for the game to boot back up, you can run away by then.

Yeah I haven’t heard about it until I came to a thread about it either. Hey, come to think of it, I didn’t hear about people using alt-f4 until I read it in the forums as well. This… this is quite the revelation. I think it means… um… nothing.

@Lamefox it is time to get over it already .If you really dc 20 times in a day to have a bill of 20 silver i would rather be too frustrated about so many disconnects to bother about repair costs.If you casually Dc once per hour like everybody else than i believe 1 silver/hour shouldn’t e such a huge problem.A

Also in wvw the % of time we spend in combat is less than 20% since 80% is just moving arround the huge maps.And you cannot posibly convince me that you dc so often in that 20% window to really matter ,it would mean that you averagely dc once every 10 minutes at wich rate the game would be unplayable and no one in here especially Anet will believe that the repair cost is your real problem.

All you say it soinds like mere excuses for someone that used at+f4 consistently and can’t really come up with some better reason to trow it back in Anet’s face.

I haven’t dc from this game since the lost shores event. What you would rather be frustrated by is totally irrelevant, because this does not affect you in any way. There is no reason whatsoever that a timer would negatively impact your gameplay compared to auto-kill, and the only ‘argument’ you can come up with is basically ‘I don’t care so screw whoever does’ or ‘if you dislike this you use alt-f4 lol’.

For all we know they could have tried a logout timer and didn’t like what it did with the rest of the games programing, so they went with the system we have now. The only difference you see is how it annoys people, but that doesn’t mean there are no other differences.

Highly doubt it, but if that was the case the lack of communication to that effect wouldn’t exactly be encouraging either.

Seriously,what are the ods for that to happen.

Considering the game has been dropping people’s connection to the server constantly today. Pretty good actually.

i’ll have to agree with graverr here. the odds of disconnecting after “reaching the safety of a keep” are miniscule. the notion that anet should accommodate such a claim is absurd.

What do the odds matter when there is a perfectly viable alternative that would prevent people from exploiting and not punish others in situations where they wouldn’t have died?

The absurd thing is people arguing for the current system over a logout timer when the only difference is that the system in place now annoys other players. It’s like they actually enjoy others being miserable.

I don’t believe in gods, but if you pointed to some random guy who clearly does exist and told me you believed he was a god, I wouldn’t suddenly think the dude stopped existing. I’d just think you were mad as a hatter.

EDIT: also, atheism and agnosticism isn’t necessarily mutually exclusive. If you believe knowledge of gods is impossible, you lack a belief in gods, which is also atheistic. However, you wouldn’t be a ‘strong atheist’, in the sense that you don’t outright believe gods don’t exist either.

It doesn’t need to be undone, it just needs to leave people in game for ~10 to ~20 seconds instead of auto killing them. If someone can’t kill an afk player they were fighting in that timeframe they would have lost anyway.

you disconnect in a FPShooter: you drop from the game, lost your position and possible xp rewards from the match.
you discconnect in any MMO: you stay in the game world for 10 seconds, and either get killed by the mob or player you were standing near, or lose out on the loot for the epic boss monster in the dungeon.

end results are the same, the game should not be designed around people still using AOL for their internet connection.

Except for when they’re not the same. There are plenty of situations in WvW when you can be ‘in combat’ and yet could sit around for 10 seconds or 20 seconds without dying. You could injure someone outside a completely unupgraded building and still easily last that long sitting still before they knock down the door, if they do at all.

There is a common, established way to solve this problem that is less likely to punish people for no reason. Or we could just support the current system because… um… we’re bitter and spiteful with no puppies to kick, or something.

There’s no reason it should ever happen because there’s a simple way of preventing intentional abuse of the system that doesn’t kill people who disconnect when they’re not in actual danger.

I will bite this again.Maybe you missed the you are not getting penalty unless you are engaged in battle part.I don’t see why ppl should renounce their right to have their proper reward just because someone has a bad internet provider.Anyone disconnects sometimes but i personally preffer to deal with it like man.I most definately can’t believe that someone will dissconect so often after they run inside a keep being on the verge of life that will cause a financial problem.If i would disconnect that often i wouldn’t play the game tbh,would be much more frustrating that the miser silver i have to pay for armor repairs.It is almost clear that such projections are only being constructed towards exploiting.

Maybe you missed the part where if they would have been killed anyway, it doesn’t matter if they’re left in the game for ~20 seconds instead of instantly killed. Because if you saw that part, there would be no reason to complain about that approach unless you just wanted to annoy people on purpose. And you’re not trying to do that, are you?

I’m not a fan of the NPC assist helping on taking a down a def structure in the zone. That is not the type of handout they need. That just creates something which wont actually help them recover, in fact, it will just make it appears as you can’t really push a team off a map, without being punished for it, because they are getting a freebee, which is making them harder to kill. Something about that is just wrong.

I like the dolyak spawning at the waypoint, and offering supply(thats great!). Because supply is hard to aquire when greatly out numbered.

So i would like to make a suggestion that actually supports the “outmanned” realm instead of just the realm that got pushed off the map. Because honestly, if 2 teams are even population, and one gets pushed off the map, then the only issues is those players skill, and not population, and thus, they should not be rewarded with a free NPC god to help them take a tower that the other skilled players worked for.

Now IF it’s a population issue, adjust the outmanned buff. But don’t increase the power of the players at all, or the players def ability. No, keep it something reall does help them, and not just help them when they are finally pushed out the map, but something that helps them during the entire fight while they are out manned. And this can also go side by side with ORBs of power when they are returned to the game.

OUTMANNED:
-33% magic find/xp/coin (thats fine)
-When outmanned, all your realms siege equipment deals 200% damage.
-When outmanned, all your realms siege equipment takes 50% less damage.

That change above would still allow the outmanned players to still stand a fight, and take objectives successfully, and be able to defend and hold them.

ORBS of POWER:
-Each orb your realm controls provides a 5% increase to damage/healing, for a max of 15%
-For each additional ORB controlled beyond 1, your realms walls/doors take an additional 10% damage. So if your realm controls 2 Orbs, your walls/doors take 10% more damage. If your realm controls 3 Orbs, your walls/doors take an additional 20% damage.

This allows the idea of great power also comes at a price of weaker structures.

Please don’t give free handouts with some NPC commander. it’s not a good idea, and actually does not help anyone.

This is the kind of system that should have been implemented to begin with. WvW is unlike any other part of the game in that the better you perform, the easier it gets. You have more buildings as a buffer zone, you have the time and supplies to get upgrades, and you probably still have greater numbers if it gets to the point people are trapped in their spawn. What do they have? No supplies, less people, no upgrades or expendable towers to give them time to respond to attacks.

Now instead of addressing that issue by changing the design of WvW to something intelligent, they throw in super-powered NPCs so that even if you do manage to turn things around, it’s just going to cheapen that for all sides involved. I feel like the people who come up with ideas for WvW don’t even play it, or maybe they hang around on the servers lucky enough to get a permanent set of good matches in this stale, barely mobile system.

Short of having tested before & after in PvP with steady weapons it’s pretty hard to say. Players are the least consistent things ever, mobs vary, and if you attack the same mob a lot the thing itself could have become tougher (edit: well in that case you might notice with other classes though if you do the same things with them often).

Would be funny if they buffed the golems in the lobby sometime though to throw everyone off…

Most minions work for me, it’s the stupid little exploding ones that are the worst. They’ll often just kinda sit around nearby. If they’re not even going to attack I’d like them to at least be close enough to the enemy I can blow them up in a field or something.

I honestly can’t believe they didn’t get rid of Reanimator. Now it degens slower, yay so it gets in the way even longer! I agree with Avigrus they are just not listening at all.

TBH I just find those things amusing. They’re so utterly futile in their existence, appearing and kinda doing this loping sprint to an enemy only to die on the way there or be caught in an AoE and killed. It’s so hilarious and sad at the same time.

My brother and I were playing yesterday and as a guardian he was trying to heal my minions, and at one point he was like ‘what the hell is wrong with those ones?’. Maybe now they’ll even live long enough for their AI to kick in and attack something, who knows.
