I’d give my eye teeth for a fused GS…
I so want eye teeth! Where do I get those!
:-P JK
-chuckle- I’d say maybe if you ask nicely…but I really couldn’t. Too many people like it when I nibble on them. ~.^
the problem is, it’s not even the achievs that are the problem, the back item you get from the scanning pretty much screams “OH BY THE WAY CANACH IS INVOLVED AND HE’S THE CAUSE OF ALL THIS” when there is literally no way for us to have figured that out by this point, since it’s the only mention of canach at that point.
even if you were to assume “oh, so we figured that out from the scanning” there’s the people screaming in map chat about “HAY GUISE WHER CANAK AND QUEEN HURR DURR” it makes staying spoiler free nigh impossible.
You realize you’d have that crap in map chat anyway right?
You also realize that instead of threads saying ’why’d you give it away’ you’d have ‘oh its so and so’ instead. Sure, purely speculation (though I’m sure some woudl get it right) and then that would be spread around in map chat.
In addition to that you’d still get the threads complaining that they didn’t tell us – ‘we dont know what to expect, how can we prepare’.
So….what would you like them to do? Get kittened at by group A or group B? Maybe shut down map chat in the new area temporarily so no one can ‘ruin it’ for someone else?
So what that the story points out that Canach is involved. How did he escape? How precisely is he involved? What’s the grand plan? Will we only ‘catch’ him at the end, or does ‘catching’ entail killing the poor kitten? Maybe he’s involved but not the ultimate mastermind. Maybe he’s just a pawn being used by some greater threat, which in turn becomes the actual end boss for the arc. Did you achievement and scanning text tell you the answers to all that? I hardly feel its ruined when there is so much not answered at this point.
back to halloween and karka events we had question marks on content not yet released. why not now?
Because people didn’t like it. Because people kittened, whined, and moaned about not knowing. ‘Why put it there if we can’t know’ bullcrap. So now they give us all the information to appease those whine-kittens, and now a whole new group it kittening.
They really just can’t win. Give ’em a break.
there’s a difference between “you captured canach!” and “you defeated the mad king!”
for one, the mad king was always going to show up, the holiday is about him, the twist was that we had to keep him sealed, nobody actually expected him to break free like he did. canach, our characters actually have no idea he’s even involved, except because of the achievs, when we meet canach again, we’d have been all “holy s***, he escaped! how? wait, he was behind this all along? oh that m*****kitten he’s going down” but now it “oh hey, the boss fight’s opened up, LFG canach”
people would have reacted the same if the halloween achievement was “defeat the mad king to stop him breaking through the statue”
they could have had the best of both worlds, they could have had the achiev not as “you beat canach before he poisoned the island” but as “you stopped the mastermind behind the plot to poison the island”, we’d know the general point of the achiev (“beat the boss”), but not the specifics (“it was canach”)
Oh yes, there’s a difference, but like I said, they can’t win. No matter HOW they implemented it, people would have kittened.
As for knowing it all because you read through all the achievements, I actually hadn’t bothered with that yet. All the info I had thus far was just from going and wandering around the island. Talking to people, doing things. I didn’t know Canach was involved until the Lionguard chick had a convo with a settler NPC and I just happened to be there to hear it (I was running through at the time). Figured I’d just roam around and see what popped for completion, just enjoying the fun, before really delving into it.
Some people are like me, and approach it that way. Some people look at the list of achievements and prioritize them first, instead of just ‘experiencing’ the content. Other people go straight for the guide (do step 1, do step 2, etc) like mindless robots (personal opinion there) and then kitten that they don’t have anything left to do. None of it is wrong, but each method leaves you with a different flavor afterwards.
Didn’t really need the whole shpiel…
Anywho, I do agree with the wrap up. ANet can’t please everyone, and I’m ok with that. Doesn’t mean I won’t grump from time to time ~.^
I get long-winded when I’m in a philosophical mood. Anyway, it’s not just directed at you, but about the forums in general. People are all bent out of shape because “they went against the Manifesto” and such, when all they are doing is adapting to the demands of a changing market.
SWTOR introduced lottery boxes when they went F2P, they had some fluff items like new emotes or whatever, but also had ultra-rare vehicles and gear. Things that affected the game, not just cosmetic items like skins, which also happened to be among the most distinctive styles of equipment in the game. People buying up the boxes and selling off the rare stuff made millions of credits doing so. And, of course, the forums blew up with protests…
I don’t play it any more, I left twice and the second time was a month after F2P. But so far as I know they haven’t stopped the lottery boxes.
Trion announced (yesterday?) that Rift was going F2P next month. They’re going to be selling gear through the cash shop, not just cosmetic stuff. I wonder how long it will be before the RNG lottery shows up there…
I sure as heck hope not. I have no issue with gem shops that simply sell cosmetic things. Dye, town clothes, skins, minis, etc. When they start selling things that affect game play (I left the boosts out of this simply because I get so many of those through normal play that I’ll never use them all and as thus, people that buy them aren’t at any great advantage lol), then there’s an issue. I am firmly against P2W shops.
I’d give my eye teeth for a fused GS, or a pair of fused daggers. They would look absolutely sweet on my mes and necro. I really wish I had money in my budget to throw away on gaming lol.
-snip-
This means the game is meant to appeal to a larger audience. It’s not the perfect game for any single type of player, but it has something for everyone.
Didn’t really need the whole shpiel…

When it comes to bug fixing, new content (temporary or otherwise), etc., I feel Anet is doing ok.
I can’t believe people are calling for an expansion already. Yes, GW1 pushed out a new game in less than a year, but they were running a completely different set up at that time.
If you want to compare to the ‘big bad’ supposedly ‘most popular’ MMO (hi again WoW, we just can’t avoid you it seems) their first expansion was 3 years after launch. In their first year, the only content they added was some dungeons and some battlegrounds (in addition to bug fixing, of course). Anet is trying to give us some plot, has given us some holiday stuff right off the bat, and is doing the bug fixing and polishing as well. I’d say they are ahead of the curve. Is everything peachy? No, course not. But at least they are attempting,
Yes, since it’s years later and companies have learned a trick or two, we expect some things to be ‘standard’ at the launch of a game, but kitten people, you can’t expect them to trot out ‘moar stuffs’ just because you think you have to have it. If you can’t find anything to do, take a break. It’s not going anywhere….
The WoW patch timeline for those that simply feel like browsing: http://www.wowwiki.com/Timeline_
Most minis are tradeable. Just go to the trading post and do a search on minis. For the most part, the minis that aren’t tradeable are the ones from the RNG reward chests that you buy with cash. But all the other minis are…even the rare one from Flame and Frost that dropped in the dungeon.
I must just not have any luck when I’m looking I guess. I’ll retract part of my minis not being tradable gripe. ^.^
I think anything that would reasonable fit in the current game’s design have been mentioned so…
+1 for the two-handed axe – warrior and guardian
+1 for the scythe – necro
+1 for melee claws – necro, ele, theif
Well, I guess I could suggest Brass Knuckles, with some brawling type skills. Probably more for a heavy armor class. But could you imagine being able to actually brawl on a norn warrior in the open world? Kinda nifty
Both can be done.
Diff dev teams after all. How do you know that they aren’t working on skill stuff already> (conversely how do we know that they, just proves that we don’t know squat really)
Anywho, I vote for both. Both is good. And I’m loving the living story stuff. I actually had to pry my sorry butt away last night to go to bed. As it was I stayed up far too late. XD
“Growing old is a requirement…
…Growing up is optional”
Age is but a number that means very little in the grand scheme of things…
But, since you asked nicely, I am 29, will be 30 this year. Most of the people that I used to play with are much younger than I…18-23 range.
This is one of those times that I curse my connection and general lack of coordination. JPs are my bane, I just can’t do them. I don’t understand what about it is so hard, but when it comes to any type of coordinated jumps in a game (even as simple as the original NES super mario brothers) I just can’t do it. -sad face-
I think people would enjoy this game a lot more if they were to process the idea that it’s not just another expansion to Guild Wars 1.
Many of us are aware of this, and still enjoy the game.
Many players are unable to move beyond “GW1 didn’t work like this…”
There will always be those that will draw comparisons. Veterans that played for years on end are probably more likely than not, and its not a bad thing necessarily. It doesn’t mean we don’t like GW2. Hell, I enjoy the game and yes, there are things I don’t like or agree with, but that’s standard in any game. I only really have issues when the designers logic seems to have gone out the window, at which point I’ll say something, and probably make the comparison too.
In this instance, its more than just GW1 though. I can’t think of any game that I’ve played that has been this wishy washy on trading.
Legendaries but not collectible skins (your example)?
All minis completely account bound and not tradeable?
Maybe it wouldn’t be so much of an issue IF you could get those things other ways, rather than only through the cash shop. And lets face it, the in-game drop rates for the things that have a chance of giving you those things are so negligible, that they may as well not exist.
“So convert in-game gold to gems” I hear people saying…ha, no thanks. Not at 4g+ per 100 gems. I haven’t found my cash cow yet to be able to sustain that insanity.
I’ll answer questions if I see them (and know the answer), in town or in map chat. It never hurt anyone to answer a simple question. There have been so many times where I’ve seen someone ask something simple/basic and get flack for it. “Go check the wiki” and crap as a response. Heck, their have been times where I haven’t known the answer, so I wikied it for them. I wasn’t busy, so why not?
I’ll also go out of my way to rez someone that’s down if I see them on my mini map (its really surprising the number of people that will ignore a downed player). Or will answer a call for help if I’m not busy at the time. I spend a lot of time just roaming low and mid-level maps, jumping in when it looks like someone needs a hand and such.
I used to do new player hand outs in GW1 (free green weapons, unded minis, etc in the starter towns), but I haven’t really gotten to that point yet in GW2. I look forward to eventually having too much stuff and just randomly giving it away to low level characters. Always a nice feeling.
I think people would enjoy this game a lot more if they were to process the idea that it’s not just another expansion to Guild Wars 1.
Many of us are aware of this, and still enjoy the game.
It wouldn’t be so bad if we could trade them, because then the skins would get into the general market for those that don’t have the cash to spend. However, they seem to be making absolutely everything account/soulbound which I find to be absolute bullkitten. Just ugh.
You can buy precursors/legendary weapons on the TP so people complain because you can just buy them with in-game currency.
You can’t buy fused/eyeball weapon skins on the TP so people complain because you can’t just buy them with in-game currency.
Makes perfect sense.
Pretty much everything was purchasable with in game currency in GW1, if you were willing to pay the price. FoW forgemaster runs, UW spider runs, mini pets, Final mission weapons or the talismans used to get them. The only real exception to this was the stuff in the online store – costumes, makeover kits, etc…since you couldn’t convert ingame gold to store currency. I like that we have this option now, but I hate that they have basically removed our right to choose what we trade with each other.
Supply crates are not gambling in the legal sense of the word. They are however gambling in the English sense of the word. You get a chest with the idea that it will give you something you want.
By the same token, you’re gambling every time you try anything that could fail by the English definition. Asking a girl out is a gamble. She might say yes, and she might say no. So yeah, it can be construed as gambling in English…so what? lol
I’m against the RNG for skins in chests, personally, but not because it’s gambling. It’s because it’s just a bad look for the company.
It wouldn’t be so bad if we could trade them, because then the skins would get into the general market for those that don’t have the cash to spend. However, they seem to be making absolutely everything account/soulbound which I find to be absolute bullkitten. Just ugh.
ya I dont’ like the living story thing. It’s like you spend a couple hours finish it(thanks to duffy) and there’s nothing left to do in a month.
the sab or molten factory dungeon is a bit better because it is repeatable.
You could always do what I do and not go to Dulfy, until you’ve tried it on your own or you’re absolutely positively stuck and running out of time. Dulfy is not a requirement to do content. In fact, when I was first playing games, there were no hint books, nor was there internet and you just had to figure out stuff for yourself.
When I was young, the internet was called books. lol
Dulfy is a very useful tool, but it can ruin the game if you allow it. Sure you can do everything in a day following dulfy..but it could take you a lot longer if you actually played the content instead of running through it.
This is my approach as well…. Try it on my own, have fun finding all the little pieces / completing achievements without a step by step walk through. Then, when I finally start to get frustrated, look up the guide and fill in the pieces I missed. Its entertaining, makes it last a little longer, and its a little more fulfilling.
Going straight to the walkthrough sort of kills it
Well, if any PvE’ers want to hang out, the names over there. Drop me a line, its about time I rebuilt my guild. ~.^
Name: Lan, Eve, LS – those that have known me a long time generally use 1 of the first 2 depending on which account I was on when they met me lol
Main Character: Lanfear Shadowflame
Current Server: Anvil Rock
Interested Activities: Lets see….Events, Occasional dungeons, occasional WvW, exploration, general mischief…
Active: Occasionally evenings, weekends
Additional Comments: I play with my husband part of the time, alone the rest. I’m game to hang out if it’s just me online, my husband isn’t overly social except with guild members that he ‘clicks’ with. Which is a very select type of individual hehe. So I doubt he’d be overly willing. Although, if you’re as wacky as we are, maybe. (2 for 1 bonus, haha)
I got mine basically as soon as it was available, the same with my husband, just so this wouldn’t happen to us….
Lesson Learned. (for me that is) Never procrastinate again.
Yeah, it’s bitten me in the kitten many a time…. I learned the hard way too
Reminds me of creatures from a horror movie on syfy that I just can’t quite remember the name of off the top of my head.
But what to do with the Charr…
full-body wax?
lmao
oh gods, im going to have nightmares now….of naked charr in human style speedos or something equally disturbing
I tried to post something to this effect, but regarding a human male speedo skin with a cosmetic slider for bulge size. Not a good thing.
My post was met with the “something went wrong” message. Probably a good thing. Probably prevented an infraction.
And I thought I was disturbed. XD
I got mine basically as soon as it was available, the same with my husband, just so this wouldn’t happen to us….
Mine seems to be patching fine….presently at 65%. Twiddling my thumbs while I wait…
Well, they moved this from General Discussion to here, so I fear this may be another Living Story temp… unless of course they use the Living Story to introduce what becomes an annual event (Holiday).
I could live with that.
Yeah I could go with this. Would be a nice ‘lasting impact’ sort of thing. Depending on how they present it/work it in.
This is why I favor small, tightly knit guilds. While there are lulls in the conversation at times, people will always say hi when you get online, or come help when you need it because they know that you would do the same for them.
But what to do with the Charr…
full-body wax?
lmao
oh gods, im going to have nightmares now….of naked charr in human style speedos or something equally disturbing
And I’ll say it again.
HOORAY FOR DRAGON FESTIVAL!!!!!
Wonder if they will bring back dogdeball….. =)
Am I crazy or did they say they were gonna add some new armor skins to the cash shop as in (full armor that isn’t town clothing)?
This was datamined from the gw2 data files without a date associated with it, and ANet has not confirmed the new armor skins with any time frame. It could be out with this update, but there’s really no telling at the moment.
Actually, didn’t Colin say in one of the discussions about the upcoming patch that there weren’t any armors in this one? He pointed us to a reddit post or something…which mentioned something about Dragon Festival too. I’ll have to see if I can find that again…all I remember really is the dragon festival stuff, cause I was completely psyched about that.
Edit: Nope, my bad…Robert Hrouda said no armor in this patch. In the Southsun Cove board – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/New-armour/first#post2002257
Was another player thank linked the reddit info in the same thread – http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1djssi/upcoming_gemstore_items/
Looks interesting either way

That said, this arrogance comes from a pride and knowledge of the game.
Knowledgeable or not, it’s still no excuse for being a kitten.
Sadly, there are as many offenders that are not knowledgeable as their are that are and it’s the general attitude towards players that aren’t “born awesome” or don’t do only pvp that has really turned me off to it. Which is sad, because I am very competitive by nature (my husband blames this on my being female lol) and I think I would enjoy pvp on some level. Goodness knows I loved AB, FA, and JQ in GW1 (to the point where [some] people knew my name, it was kinda neat at times….reaaaaally sucked at others), but I just can’t deal with the kittens….
I was raised knowing the value of sportsman like conduct. Not the crap that passes for sportsmanship these days. Parents should be appalled and ashamed!
Oh right, haha today’s the 14th. Lol, see how observant I am. XD
It’ll probably either be like a noon pacific thing, or when the dailies and stuff reset in the evening. Either way, I should be home by then. =)
I agree that there are certainly some side stories that have a measure of depth.
Correct me if I’m wrong, however, but I recall the personal story being billed as a rather large component of the PvE, and it does seem to actually play a large role in immersing a player in the lore and world of Tyria. There are some RPG stories that I’ve played over three times through because they were so enjoyable. I think the general consensus about the personal story is that it’s almost bearable the first time.
Great stories are told again and again; great stories in games are played again and again. GW2 could have great stories, but it doesn’t have those yet.
I’m not sure what could be done to recover that save an expansion. I don’t see the major, central story content being salvaged by the living story.
I don’t think the story itself is that much more terrible than any in the GW1 universe, but I think the way they approached giving it to us may have hurt it. Large gaps between accessible pieces, and the pieces themselves presented in their new way weren’t precisely my cup of tea. I very much miss the cut scenes from the original GW1. It was a nice surprise to see them start to add these (even if small) to the living story, let us hope that continues.
As for saving the personal story via an expansion, its possible. Their first attempt at storytelling with Prophecies fell pretty flat too, but got better with Factions, Nightfall, and EotN, perhaps this is their stumbling block. I have simply opted for a ‘wait and see’ approach at this point.
I don’t mean to be dismissive or insulting with what I’m about to say, but those who have invested a great deal of time in the PvP tend to say otherwise, especially with respect to one (maybe two?) builds being viable and I think they have good reason to believe as much.
I tend to take the judgments of the PvP community more seriously on this issue than others given that the main enjoyment of any PvP oriented player of the game comes from a well balanced and interesting meta (and, of course, combat mechanics). If they are not satisfied, then the game likely suffers from balance and depth problems.
On this point, the number of concurrent players in sPvP speaks for itself. If that were insufficient, there are a number of top GW1 players who have raised concerns about the current state of the game for several months now.
This spills over to PvE, of course, since dungeon/content design is limited by the best a system has to offer. This is ultimately why I still retain the judgment that the PvE is shallow; encounters are limited by the skill system on which they are designed around.
I have a strong opinion of pvp players, one that would probably be offensive to …well..100% of them. Due mainly to my pvp experiences in GW1, and then a little bit in other games. As such, I tend to avoid pvp as it might make me feel slightly homicidal. Thus why I dont spend hours and hours in it. I do play it, I just don’t mainstream it, which is probably why I don’t see the balance issues.
I think my position has changed a small amount since I originally wrote this thread. Ensign’s comment resonated with me; I do think the game will continue, but not in a way that will make it the classic it could have been. Now the game caters to PvE casuals and whales. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but it is certainly a serious disappointment with how the game was marketed. I feel in particular for the competitive PvP community, especially those who came from GW1 expecting the same, high-level competition they experienced in the first game. It simply doesn’t exist here, and it looks unlikely to change given the fundamental deficiencies in class and ability design.
As a side note, I think if the PvP had launched as it was marketed (“e-sports”)—in depth, strategic, exceptionally balanced, meaningful leaderboard, really fun (i.e., more than one wearisome game mode), etc., etc.—then many of the complaints on these forums would never have been felt, let alone expressed. There would be much more to do at 80 (what is more interesting than playing competitively against the smartest challenges possible—the human mind?) and so players would have something fun to do while they waited for other PvE content to be developed.
I think if they had given themselves another year before launch that they would have been better off. They still had a lot to do, and have been doing quite a bit, though most people tend to ignore that they are doing anything. Still, I think with time and patience we may see them try to get back to their manifesto, we may see it come close to what we hoped for (what it was marketed as), but maybe not. I’ll hang around and see, I’m in no rush to run away.
Vayne
At least Shiro required certain classes, skills, and/or the right hero’s to finish. -snip-
He did?
2 eles with Echo – Arcane Echo – Celestial Skill…..
Everything else was just fodder. hehehehehe
i put it in my first post here. If i’m about to run a dungeon with 4/5 people and were waiting for the last person to finish up selling in LA or whatever, it would be nice to casually duel while waiting for the last player.
If you need to port to another arena/instance, it just wouldn’t be the same. Too much effort/loading. That’s one of the reasons WoW was so much better than SWTOR.
WoW = open world, not many loading screens
SWTOR = mostly instanced zones, tons of loading screens.edit; It would also be nice to battle 1v1 in all the cool terrain Anet has put so much work into. I could think of some good places to have 1v1s in the open world.
See, in your scenario I have less of an issue with. That type of thing doesn’t bother me as much, honestly. Although it is still my ‘preference’ that all pvp be in the mists or at least separate from pve as it was in gw1.
However, your scenario is not the most common one. You’re going to see a lot more of the crap you get in Goldshire, than the way you envision it. People standing around not playing the game. People harassing others that simply don’t want to duel. People talking kitten because now not only are they not the right class, or have the right armor (or weapon or wtfe), but because they won’t duel either.
I can see loading being an issue for some. Especially if you have to go do the mists, and then to the arena. Maybe a middle ground could be found.
another point i missed. There is this idea that people only want to duel “to show how leet they are.” Maybe people want to duel for fun? The fun in competition doesn’t come from rubbing someones face in the dirt.
There are plenty of reasons to duel and to think its just to further ones “e-fallace” is a narrowminded view of a gameplay style you don’t prefer.
And if that’s simply the case, then where’s the issue with relegating it to an arena? If you’re just doing it for fun, not to ‘show off’ why do you care if you have an audience?
that sure was a lot of words. Simply giving the option to request/decline a duel would have no negative impact on the community. I mean, really? i’ve been playing MMOs since vanilla WoW and if your biggest problem is getting “duel spammed” then that’s pretty sweet living if you ask me.
In my experience, the nicest people in GW2 have been people i’ve met in WvW and sPvP. Win or lose, they just enjoy the game. The bad-apples tend to favor PvE content and cuss me out in dungeons for not trying to exploit.
If you’re worried about the effects dueling would have in terms of fostering a bad community, let me tell you that part of the community already exists and you seem to be dealing with it ok.
Perhaps a little long, but simply trying to address both sides of the line.
While yes, the childish attitude/mentality currently exists in the game, do we want to foster more of it? We already have segregation issues, build issues, armor issues, weapon issues, and I could keep going, but we want to add more fuel to that fire? I don’t particularly. I don’t want to foster more addle-brained children that need to feel 1337 by duel spamming people.
I too played WoW, and while I met some really nice people during my stay, most of the worst ones were in pvp and open world ‘duelists.’
I can deal with turning off the duel option, but my ignore list has a max number of allowable people, and hunting the kitten down to crush their hands and yank their wagging tongues out of their heads to alleviate my frustration with them just isn’t socially acceptable.
~Just a quick disclaimer here…I have never claimed (and will never claim) to be a ‘well adjusted’ human being~
Every hear of Goldshire? The defense rests.
I used this example in another post of this topic as well. Open world dueling encourages people to ‘hang out and loiter’ instead of going out and playing the game. However, people shot me down ‘oh people don’t do that’ Ha, I beg to differ….
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
I don’t consider that boring, per se. More…culturally acceptable. For humans, any profession could be considered ‘boring’ by your thought line. Therefore no one should play a human?
On the other hand, making a race/class combo that would logically fit….such as Charr Ranger, or Charr Engineer would also be ‘boring’ by your description.
I don’t see anything wrong (or boring) in trying to create a race/class combo that fits as defined by the game lore. Of course, I don’t see issues with having fun outside the box either (Charr Ele for example).
‘Kids’…cute. Well there’s the obligatory ‘insult/demean anyone who doesn’t share your opinion in an attempt to render their opinion null and void and yours valid’-which ironically proves quite nicely the type of players who want this feature and consequently the very reason the majority says ‘keep that thing out of our game’
Well done
Here here. So tired of that attitude.
@OP:
While many people have no issue with dueling, in and of itself, the general consensus, as another has said, is that we would prefer to keep it out of open world PvE. Not because it can’t be implemented, it could probably easily be so. Not because we wouldn’t be able to shut it off, or not be able to decline, but more because of the attitude and mentality that open world dueling fosters.
While it is true that not all open world duelers are kitten, from personal experience (and from the sounds of things, a lot of other people’s experience as well) most of them are.
They spam the hell out of the duel invite, and if you decline and/or have it shut off completely they start harrassing you in wsper instead. When you block them, they resort to open world taunting. ‘Oh you suck’ ‘Oh you’re such a pve noob’ ‘Haha scared of a little duel’ etc and so on. We simply don’t want to deal with kitten like this. We don’t want to foster this type of community/attitude in game.
In addition to this, open world dueling does not fit with the ‘original’ guild wars form. All pvp was in its own instance, outside of the pve. Many, including myself, feel that pvp related things should be segregated from pve, and remain in the mists, or at the very least, in their own arenas. Beyond that, we have no issue with having duels, but have them in their own arena.
Some people have gone so far as to complain that if dueling is relegated to an arena, it would have to use pvp armor/weapons, which is also not necessarily so. I don’t think it would be overly hard to implement the option to enter a 1v1 arena in pve or pvp armor. Leave the choice to the person entering.
An arena would also give you the option of fighting a random opponent (someone who’s just jumped in the queue) or against someone specific (join together option). All of this could be accommodated.
Others have stated that they want the open world duels because when they are just standing around waiting they having nothing else to do. They don’t want to have to go to a separate area to duel while they wait. While it is true that ‘going elsewhere’ to duel could be an inconvenience, its so easy to get around the world that there’s really no excuse except laziness to feel ‘hindered’ by needing to map out and back in.
So, while there are a lot of valid arguments, both in favor and against, for open world dueling, I think what it really boils down to for a lot of people is whether or not it will have a negative impact on the community attitude overall. Not whether or not its acceptable or viable.
Elementalist, from GW1 to GW2. I just enjoy the class. I’m fun, versatile, and I can set people ablaze. I see no downside, hehe.
I wear GWAMM on my ele, which is my main GW2 character, and my GW1 namesake. I got GWAMM on her in GW1, why not show it on the namesake in GW2?
Does it bother me that other people wear it? Nope. I got GWAMM before it was fashionable to do so. ~.^
On my other characters…I haven’t really browsed through what I have, so they’re all blank for the time being. Eventually I’ll find/have one to fit each. No rush though, I gots all the time in the world…
The Merriam-Webster definition of ‘casual’ are thus:
“occurring without regularity”
“feeling or showing little concern”
“lacking a high degree of interest or devotion”
" done without serious intent or commitment"
“informal, ie designed for informal use”
as such, none of the listed items in the original post have anything to do with what makes the game casual or not. they are activities that a casual player may take part in, may even enjoy. however, having (or not having) them does not make casual or not casual as you seem to think.
a ‘casual’ player is going to pick up the game for a few hours, do a little bit here, a little bit there and then log out. they may not come back for a few days, a few weeks, possibly a few months, but when they do, they will be right where they left off, which is very casual friendly.
if they were to try to do this is other mmos (which shall remained unnamed) they would be behind and would then need to catch up….requiring dedication, which is the opposite of casual.
Casual players enjoy games where they don’t have to play ‘with regularity.’ That don’t require a ‘high degree of devotion’ and don’t require a ‘serious commitment’ unless they really want to. At which point they become more than a casual player, simply by the definition of the word ‘casual’
ArenaNet did tell you beforehand that there was only going to be some dialogue, etc. at the final event. And you do receive an hour-long boon, as well. Not sure what you were expecting from the information they gave us.
‘The Flame and Frost epilogue will be active from Sunday, May 12 at 12:00pm Pacific until the release of the Secret of Southsun on Tuesday May 14. The epilogue will mostly consist of conversations and story elements; there are no exclusive rewards to be given at this time.’

+1 for this. Obviously people don’t pay attention….
I like mini-games. =) They are a nice change of pace, which is partly I like holidays so much….more mini games!
Dragon festival! YAY! Although that’s usually July….
Still….deliriously happy….
I’ve run into this before. Rolled a new character and couldn’t rep right away. Sometimes logging out and back in will fix this. I have also found that sometimes completing your first baby quest will sometimes fix it too. (ie I could rep after killing the earth ‘monster’ in the human starting story)
Oh I forgot Hounds of Balth. My husband likes that one. =)
@Groc, see I like tornado specifically because I can push everyone away from me (and my group) and then repeatedly knock them down while my teammates beat on them. Very handy in some situations
I like both, although I don’t often do dungeons. Both game elements have their place though, so I don’t think either is a waste.
Open World:
This is great for my desire to explore. I can randomly help (or not) as I please. There are lot of nifty story pieces and lore to discover. It also has plenty that I’ve probably missed, and they could easily add events and such to it at any point (and I believe they have stated at one point that this is an intent…adding more DE’s and such). I can set my own pace and just play as I please…lolli-gagging along enjoying the scenery or hell bent on getting to that quest marker…whichever I feel like. Its a very unstructured sandbox with lots of possibilities…
Dungeons:
I like dungeons. They hold a specific lore and require a team tactic to tackle. However, most people doing them tend to be kitten, so I avoid them even though I’d like to experience them. Dungeons give you a ‘structured’ play element for those that have a small group of people that they’d like to play with. Dungeons also open up the ability to add harder instanced content. The initial dungeons, after being modified and ‘finished’ will give the devs a baseline for new ones to be added in the future (what people like, what do they find to hard, do they need to make a normal mode and a hard mode version, etc)
I think both pieces are necessary to the game, although it is not necessary for you to do (or even like) both options. If you asked me to choose one or the other I’d have to quote the animated movie ‘The Road to El Dorado’ and say “Both. Both is good”
