They should simply give us as many hero points as skill points we actually spend getting (you guess it) skills. I don’t see why that is so complicated. We already earned those skills.
In the case of traits, they should give us a quantity proportional to what we have. If someone have 50% of the traits unlocked, they should give that player the 50% of the trait currency needed to complete all the traits in the new system.
Even more simple:
While I understand it could be tricky with the change on the traits, all the mess with the skills I just dont get.
The new system WILL NOT CHANGE THE SKILLS. Why do they need to clean them? Just leave the earned skills as they are!
It’s likely due to the nature of the new system (which is intended to have a very finite number of points, and which don’t convert 1 to 1 across the board) that they went the route they did. To go your route would require a lot of additional calculations to catch all of the possible scenarios. Due to the complexity of that task, it could introduce a serious number of bugs into the game. The simpler they keep it, the less that could potentially go wrong.
So we not losing skills/ utilities right? Thats my main issue with this confusion.
Define “losing.” All of the current utilities and traits are being massively reworked and reorganized. We’re all losing all of them, essentially.
Then we get to buy the new versions. If we have level 80 + 65 skill challenges complete, we can buy the new ones right away, regardless of whether we had the old ones or not.
Bull kitties! !! You know what i meant! Losing skills is losing skills. Nobody liked that when the trait system first changed. Now us max levels also lose skills. Bull kittens! !
If it works the way I understand it to work and you have done 0 skill challenges on a character, the short answer is yes.
They have mentioned nothing about grandfathering anyone in, so at this point I’m assuming this will not be happening. As such, a level 80 character with 0 skill challenged done will only have 400 of the 465 total points necessary for a complete core unlock. However, at 5 points per trait or skill, this equates to 13 traits or skills (or combination there of) that you don’t unlock. Which, is actually relatively minor considering that there are a lot of utility skills (for example) that we just don’t use.
I understand that some of us unlock things just for the sake of having them unlocked. After all, we had nothing better to do, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that big a deal.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
Frankly, that’s a lot of work that doesn’t really gain anyone anything. It would be a much easier solution to simply look at a character’s level and completed skill challenges, and give them the appropriate number of hero points. Then look at a character’s unspent skill points and unused scrolls of knowledge, and convert those all into spirit shards.
More than likely this is how it work and it’ll just add the skill points to the spirit shard pool and award individual hero points as you log into each character.
I don’t foresee us maxing out masteries anytime soon, but it depends on how much leveling up you have to do between each tier. That could be pretty substantive.
One of the betas players from the last beta told me that the first ‘level’ was the same as a typical level 80, and the next was 4 times that much mastery experience (which the current wiki info supports)
“Mastery tracks are completed by earning an increasing amount of experience points, currently the first track requires 254,000 exp, and the second tier of the track requires 1,012,000 exp.”
If additional tiers follow the same patter of 4 times the amount of the previous tier, that’s a lot of xp to gather.
Beyond that they’ve told us that they fully intend to continue adding masteries as the game progresses.
I think they intend to keep us busy for quite some time.
Scrolls of knowledge give skill points. They do not give you experience.
You can still use your tomes and writs to level your revenant. However, without doing at least some skill challenges (to be renamed hero challenges) you won’t be able to unlock all of your skills and traits since you wont have enough hero points.
It’s not a currency so it doesn’t belong there.
Exactly this.
It is not a currency. You do not purchase anything with it. It is a crafting material and belongs in the materials tab (where it presently has a home). If you have more than you can hold, just delete it.
Haven’t got one yet, hopefully one day I will. I want the pistol skin.
They never formally announced guild halls for GW2 though. They said they wanted to, and then when we got closer they said they wouldn’t be in the game at launch. They’ve said that they’ve wanted to do a lot of things. That’s not formally announcing it though, there is a difference.
They formally announced Guild Halls with the expansion announcement. But, we only know that Guild Halls are supposed to be included in HoT. No word since then.
Exactly. Nothing since then.
I don’t understand that argument.!!!!???? I just mentioned it would be sad if they shelve it after announcing it. Cuz it would not be the first time they done so.some ppl just luv to troll & argu for nothing. tsk tsk tsk…. sad.

To be honest. I hope they don’t go to Elona or Cantha at all…
…..you’re dead to me.
Why?? cause I have an opinion different then yours?? Why would you play an MMO in the first place?
Maybe instead of wishing me dead, try to read my motivations. I truly can’t believe people want another reworked zone over new and surprising designs and styles. Cantha and Elona where beautifull, but it is the past. I rather see them make new things. Just as astonishing, but new.
I love for example the “grand canyon”- look of drytop. That is something that really dropped my jaw, as much as shing jea island dropped my jaw. However. If they remake shing jea island now, it wouldn’t drop my jaw, cause I know how it looks.
It’s a common joke, Merc, relax.
~peace and hugs~
lol you ruined my perfectly good set up!
Hmm, so if all my traits were unlocked the old way and the new Grandmaster traits were just bought then my char will have no skills available post patch?
Flesh Wound, do you know if the re-unlock will also include a gold cost and if so will I also be refunded the gold I initially paid?
From my understanding of the system, all of our skills and traits will need to be re-unlocked. However, if you’re a level 80 and have 0 skill challenges done, you’re still going to have roughly 400 hero points to spend on skills and traits, out of the 465 necessary for a full core unlock. So you’ll be able to unlock the vast majority of your core skills/traits (all but like 13 skills/traits, if they remain 5 pnts a piece and if the number of points hasn’t changed).
There is no gold cost to the new system that we are aware of. Conversely it’s unlikely we will get the gold we spent back, if we purchased our traits instead of unlocking them via whatever their associated task was.

I believe i once saw a video of an interview with Colin where he said there is absolutely noting that cannot be shelved.
Well that’s true in any development, not just GW2. However, generally speaking when they formally announce something as “coming,” we get it. The only thing I can think of that they said was coming and hasn’t is legendary armor/trinkets, but that still wasn’t technically a formal announcement. It was just a ‘hey we’re working on this, we think we’ll have it out at this point.’ Of course, they haven’t said it was shelved either. The last update we had was that it wasn’t going to meet its initial speculated end of year debut. Since that point, any type of ‘hey we’re working on this’ has absolutely stopped. The only time they open their mouths to tell us what they are working on now, is when they absolutely know it will be coming into the game.
That’s true Vayne and was especially so in GW1 where the skills were almost constantly changing in an attempt to keep the game balanced. This is to be accepted as the ongoing evolution of an MMORPG as a massive population is working to find niche builds for the little or large advantage and a small group of developers are working to keep everything in balance. I like this evolution as it keeps the game fresh.
But to wipe out several years of combined effort across all chars on an account in one hit? To render all my equipment unusable to me? That is a little hard to swallow from a game that prides itself on being casual with no gear grind.
I must be misunderstanding this and should have been paying more attention to the announcements as I really don’t think ANet would do that.
How exactly are they rendering all of your equipment unusable? By buffing it?
As Starfall said, you might need to swap a couple of things around if you desire exactly 50% crit chance, but that’s hardly “rending all of the equipment” as unusable.
They never formally announced guild halls for GW2 though. They said they wanted to, and then when we got closer they said they wouldn’t be in the game at launch. They’ve said that they’ve wanted to do a lot of things. That’s not formally announcing it though, there is a difference.

And thank you, at least someone can follow the flow of conversation. Even my 14 year old son understood (and he’s over here just laughing at this conversation).
It would be a SAD day after they announced it & comes the expansion. They just shelve it like so many things they announced upon release of Gw2.
Considering they did formally announce it, I highly doubt this is something they have shelved. I think it’s more they aren’t at a comfortable stage to give us more information yet. To assume it’s been shelved just because we don’t have more information on it means we would have to assume the same for other things we haven’t heard anything on yet – challenging group content, and the other 6 elite specs, for example.
Like i said, not the first time they formerly announce something & never comes out. Can you read?

Really? weird… cuz i saw a clip when they announce HOT during Pax where they formerly announce guild halls. But you must be right… & the rest of us has just have Mass hysteria. & imagine the hole thing :P
& we are not talking about Gw2 but HoT, the expansion.
Ps: can some1 link that clip?

We were discussing initial launch announcements. Not HoT, regarding promises made and not kept, based on your comment that they have previously made such promises and not kept them. And it’s exactly for such reasons that Anet keeps their lips sealed about what’s coming until its essentially ready.
I am well aware, people that they announced them for HoT. I was present when they did so. It was not the expansion I was discussing as we had moved on from that point in the conversation. 2 posts back I myself stated that they were formally announced for HoT, at which point the comeback was that they have previously announced such things and then shelved them, thus leading to the discussion regarding initial launch, where such things were in fact not actually ‘announced.’ Only commented on as them ‘wanting to’ do them.

The game doesn’t have guild halls….
There is a powerfull request from the community from launch. Arenanet had a CDI bout guilds and the most powerfull call from the community was guildhalls. They also said they take the community seriously. So people assume they are preparing guildhalls and that we can expect them soon, but that is based on assumptions. There is no formal announcement or any indication that they are actually working on it. It doesn’t mean they are not, but at the moment the answer to your question is that there are no halls at all
You realize guild halls are part of the expansion right?
That same poster posted in an HoT thread yesterday that guild halls are just speculation, and was responded to with the HoT link for, and wiki information on, the coming guild halls. So, I’m guessing no he or she doesn’t realize. He or she is being intentionally ignorant that halls are coming.

lol, I’ll rephrase, the poster you were responding to is claiming guild halls are mere speculation. You asked if they realized, I was responded directly to you about aforementioned poster.

My only hope is that the Jade Sea is still solid if they release a Canthan update.
With the current underwater combat system I would hate to experience it.
I believe the lore set forth has stated that the Jade Sea is returning to it’s liquid state. It may very well be completely liquid again by this time.
“rumors claim that since Shiro’s second defeat the Jade Sea had been liquifying once more.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cantha#The_Jade_Sea
Still that said, I hope we get the chance to actually see for ourselves
huh, I wonder what will happen to all those chunks of jade with creatures inside them that they dug out, such as the one resting on the beach at Mehtani Keys in Istan.
“Hey check out my rare and expensive artifact that I had shipped all the way from Cantha!”
~artifact liquifies all over the room~
“……”
I’ve wondered this as well. I’ve also wondered if the creatures trapped inside are still alive or not. Perhaps caught it some sort of suspended animation (probably not). Still fun to consider though.
They didnt offer swaps when they nerfed crit damage. They wont do it this time. Especially as this time it effects a much smaller amount of people and barely effects the builds.
The difference is that didn’t actually change anything. Zerker was still the highest crit damage build, assassin as still the next highest, etc…
These changes have the potential to make armor sets no longer viable. A one time stat swap seems reasonable to me. If you are happy with your set up just save them or use it to change to the same thing. If you are unhappy with the new system or your build was nerfed to oblivion, or your set up was reduced in efficiency, this will let you not have wasted all that effort. All ascended equipment is account bound so it won’t have any effect on the market, and it can’t even be salvaged so no problem there either.
None of that is changing though. Zerk will still be the highest dps. Sin will still be second, etc etc. Our base stats are getting buffed. The base armor stats are getting buffed. To compensate the loss of stats from the trait lines. None of the armor is changing in such a drastic way as to be no longer viable as you’re claiming.
The only exception is the direct loss of boon/condi duration which you could only really build via the trait lines, not armor. They may be removing this completely, maybe not. Maybe they’ll reintroduce it to the game in the form of a new armor/weapon/trinket combination.
Base stats are going form 926->1000 I believe. The other 200+ points are getting moved to gear.
For some builds this won’t be a problem. But certain builds used full zerker gear because their meta builds contained the lines that gave +300 vit and +300 toughness. Now their zerker gear may not be usable for their skill level after the change. Or someone used nomad gear because they took the power and cit lines and were still able to do decent damage while being tanky. Now they won’t be able to kill anything with these changes and will need to swap out their gear for more offensive gear. These are the people that will be screwed over, and they are much more likely to just quit then they are to grind out another 700g for a new armor and weapon set. A one time gear swap hurts no one but greatly benefits many many players.
This doesn’t make the gear any less viable though. If anything it makes the gear itself more effective for it’s purpose.
Yes, this does affect overall build, but that is not the same thing. In your example, that person’s zerk gear is still usable. Still 100% viable. They are just more squishy, thus higher risk to playing that glass cannon style (which, isn’t that how it should be?). This can be compensated by swapping a trinket or two as needed for fine tuning, as opposed to needing to completely re-gear. The same goes for nomad gear, they swap in zerk trinkets instead. Although, I sort of doubt that people running nomad gear don’t have other gear sets to begin with.
None of this “requires” that they give us a free stat change on our gear because none of it is becoming no longer viable, per your claim. The only time they ever gave us the option to change our stats was when they completed removed a stat from the combination, and that isn’t happening here.
They didnt offer swaps when they nerfed crit damage. They wont do it this time. Especially as this time it effects a much smaller amount of people and barely effects the builds.

My hang up is this wording: “in the next update!” Yes, at the start of the blog they do include the word content, but technically anything that isn’t a system update is content. (Content doesn’t necessarily mean “playable,” though that’s how we tend to view it).
They have an update every 2-3 weeks. Sometimes it’s not much, but it is (technically) an update. So by my guess, based on that wording, we’re potentially looking at 6/23 or 6/30 for this patch.
Yes, this would definitely shake up the pvp meta. In theory, this should give the WTS teams a little more than a month to figure their set ups out. It might give enough time for a new meta to start settling some, but not too much. This might make for some more interesting games, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Still, the sooner they get this in, the better, as it allows more time for those teams to adapt.
I don’t use spirits unbound, mainly because I feel spirits are a bit weak. I do think they need a buff (in range, effectiveness, and base hp). If that were done, I think making them stationary would be fine, especially since it would encourage smart placement. In GW1 spirits didn’t move, but could be placed at range and remain very effective. They were even handy in certain pvp modes.
“I’m tired of outfits. I want Anet to stop making them”
Well, I’m tired of people whining about outfits and want them to stop….
…we don’t all get what we want.
I am perfectly fine with them making outfits and putting them in the gemstore. I am even more fine with it, now that we have a statement that going forward armor skins will be an in-game reward and not a gemstore purchase. So let them stick outfits in the store and generate revenue which continues to fund the game. We’ll see new armors when we get the new content (which is essentially how it’s always worked for pretty much any game, ever).
The current skill points we have will become the new mystic forge currency, which will remain in the wallet, and all your ‘extra’ skill points from across your account now become one ‘pool’ (like karma did).
Do we need 5 Trinkets? Or can we just have 1
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ugh please no! -1
The single amulet is “fine” for pvp. I think it might be a bit limiting for build diversification there, but I understand the “why” behind it. Kind of the same thing with runes in pvp, it’s very limiting. However, from a dev perspective it should make it much easier to maintain/balance. (In theory)
For pve though…no, we need to have that diversity. I like to mix and match my trinkets as needed. I’m sure with the incoming specialization change which removes stats from the trait lines, there will be more people that do this as well. There have been a few that have stated that they run all zerk gear and trinkets, but offset their glassiness via the stats they got from their trait line choices. They won’t have that now, now they might need to add a pvt trinket or a valk trinket instead of one or two zerk trinkets. Obviously not all will do this or even see a different in their play, but the option to mix and match needs to remain.
So...druid? Do we get his reveal this week?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
No elite specialization reveal this week (otherwise we would have had a teaser on monday).
The teasers can come as late as Wednesday, can’t they?
Regardless. I suspect that the announcement this week is that the LA & Core Spec patch will be “coming soon™.”
For every spec thus far, there has been an image tweeted/facebooked out on Monday morning, if I recall correctly. Followed by the blog post on Thursday and the Twitch stream on Friday. Since we got nothing Monday, I’m assuming there is no specialization this week.
Someone should mention that all the excess skill points we have sitting around will become/be converted to the new currency (whatever they decide to name it). It should be very similar to how trans stones and crystals became charges (except we don’t need to manually exchange it), I’m assuming.
And that the new currency will be in the wallet.
lol ‘anet needs to rein in some of its greed’ what a hoot…
You have an overview on their budget? Can I see?
Their budget and their supposed “greed” aren’t the same thing.
But we do have the quarterly income reports that NCSoft puts out and people post on these forums without fail, which shows an overall decrease in income. That doesn’t scream “greed” by any means.
Now….oil companies making record profits every quarter on the other hand…..
lol ‘anet needs to rein in some of its greed’ what a hoot…
Not big on dungeons personally. I’d like to do each path at least once so I can experience all the stories, and I do CM on occasion for leveling purposes, but that’s about the extent of my dungeon interest.
While I know this is supposed to be a “ha ha” thread…. it’s obvious that I have not yet had enough coffee this Monday morning…
…to the Kitchen!
Worse still…it’s very likely racial skills will be going away
Based on what? please state your source?
There isn’t anything official regarding it. However, people are assuming racials are going away due to:
1) During the 4 hour core specializations stream they were never mentioned and there didn’t seem to be a ‘track’ for them present on the new UI
2) They don’t seem to work with the revenant set up, from the information that we have
That’s my understanding of what people are basing this speculation on, and I think they do have very going points.

Given that Ventari was a peace loving centaur, I don’t see staff as being high in dps.
The faster a conflict is resolved, the sooner peacefulness can resume.
What’s more peaceful than an adversary incapacitated by a friendly whack up side the head with a big stick? :-D
Considering Ventari wouldn’t life a finger to even save his own home/life in Prophecies, I’m actually surprised that we can fight at all while in his stance.
Perhaps that is built in. Maybe the entire time we channel him he complains and objects to our killing and using his power in battle. Similar to how Mallyx doesn’t like us using his power based on his dialog. The legends don’t seem to have a direct choice in whether we use their power or not.
Or maybe we can thwack ‘em with the stick and do 0 dmg.
Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants.
no full Ventari reveal today planned?

Its the POI topic for today…. is that what you were talking about?
In my experience, this is pretty typical pvper behavior.
Yes, to those that are going to scream “we don’t all act like that,” that is true. Not everyone acts like that, though I find more do act like this than don’t.
Unfortunately the ‘accepted’ solution, as others have said, is to simply block these people; however, I contend that this really isn’t enough. Some modicum of sportsmanlike conduct really should be imposed on what is really just unacceptable behavior. Although, I suppose since we don’t actually impose such rules anymore in real life, it’s just a lost cause.
Yes, I get that, but would you actually spend TIME farming Jute (rather than the Wool, Cotton, Linen and MOSTLY SILK you actually need)? I certainly promote all the Jute I get, but I don’t go out and spend time farming it. As I stated, if you need Jute for T1 crafting, that’s understandable, but that (less than 10% of total armor crafting) an promotion to Wool are the ONLY uses for Jute. The other tiers are used beyond 500 armor crafting.
I guess my point is that a video showing players how to farm T2 – T5 cloth would be much more useful but you can never convince some players that materials they farm are NOT really free…..if you look at all your economic choices from the view that your time is worth nothing, then you will never make informed decisions about generating resources.
Knowing how to farm it all is definitely useful, yes.
I guess I look at it differently. I level a lot of characters, so I do a lot of low level farming just in general. Additionally, even when I’m farming on an 80, I do get bored doing one specific thing over and over again(like event training around Orr, or running around SW), regardless of how lucrative it may be, and will quite often hop from area to area and farm the lower level stuff (even jute) as a change of pace. It keeps things fresh, and it keeps me from hitting that DR threshold.
Rev Staff - Please let it be high DPS!

This mounts controversy reminds me of a situation I experienced a few years ago out here in (drum roll) Real Life.
My elderly uncle would let the trash bags pile up in his basement, and then I’d end up helping him load it all up in his truck and take it to the dump.
One day I said, “Uncle, why not put the trash out by the end of the driveway? The garbage collector guys will pick it up. You’re being charged for this service on your city water bill anyway, so why not take advantage of it?”
He said, “Seems like that would be more trouble than taking it to the dump.”
/e picard facepalm
I went to a local store and bought a big garbage can with wheels, and that was the end of that.
The moral of the story: people get stuck in their ways and sometimes the only way to get through to them is to go ahead and put mounts in the game. If we had them, we would ride.
Can’t that final statement go the same way for those of you asking for mounts that you’re stuck in your ways that they should exist?
It very much can.
Personally, I’ve played games with mounts and without. I rather prefer without.

Oh for crying out loud, this isn’t a court of law. Ugh
And yes, it does go both ways considering all we were working off of was specualtion and there was nothing absolutely concrete to use as proof one way or the other. Which, in either case neither of us was technically wrong
Now; however, since we do have the answer, yes you were very much wrong in speculating about it being Druid related.
You are correct that just because the data exists in the dat file and was datamined does not concretely say what something is necessarily. However, if you take into consideration the other general information, you can make some guesses.
At this point, you are simply arguing for the sake of arguing.
Actually it’s closer to philosophical or scientific than judicial. Realistically, in an actual court and outside legal ideals, it’s just as much the responsibility of the defendant to demonstrate their innocence as it is the job of the prosecution to prove their guilt. If a man was accused of kitten and he did nothing to defend himself, even if the only evidence was testimony from the alleged victim, he’d likely still be convicted. The same can’t be said for science. Both the burden of proof and the kitten bit, actually.
That’s what it looks like when I’m arguing for the sake of arguing. Regardless of semantics, it actually still doesn’t “go both ways.” When one asserts that their speculation is correct, it is very much their job to prove the claim. Because we have two pieces of information, and no evidence directly linking these two pieces of information, we need to resort to speculation and hypotheses to establish a connection. However, I am not speculating that the two pieces of information are not connected; it’s actually an objective observation. The two pieces are not directly connected. There was no evidence in the form of game data or from ArenaNet that Revenants would be getting a Ventari legend. When data on Ventari was found in the game files, people simply assumed Revenants and Ventari were linked, despite no actual direct connection. Like I already said and gave examples for, the Ventari data could just as easily been linked to something unrelated to revenants. After all, this expansion does take place in the Maguuma Jungle, the home of Ventari.
Let’s use an analog. The year is 1200, and humans don’t understand what disease is. People have ideas, but no concrete evidence. Some of the more popular ideas are that disease comes from imbalances in the body, or from tainted air. Someone comes along and makes a claim that disease is caused by invisible animals too tiny to touch, see, or detect in any way. These animals enter our bodies and start wreaking havoc, and that havoc manifests as disease. That person adamantly believes this to be the truth, but he has no evidence. It’s just an idea that makes sense to him, but everyone else says he’s crazy and he needs to put on a mask to stop breathing in bad air.
That man is more or less correct in his assertion, but his argument is flawed, incorrect, invalid, and any other adjective you want to use, precisely because his argument is logically inconsistent and doesn’t actually make falsifiable claims or give any evidence to support itself. An argument can’t stand only on its assertion, it needs substance to back it up. In other words, he was right, but for the wrong reasons. Just as you were.
If you want a more ridiculous example of the second paragraph, see Russell’s Teapot. Or in other words, how do we really know there isn’t an interplanetary celestial teapot in orbit around Mars?
And that marks the end of my interest in explaining basic philosophy and logic on the GW2 forums.
Wow that was long…and headache worthy. What you’re talking about and what I meant (by the logic going both ways) are not the same thing. (Probably should have caught that earlier, but it’s been a long day at work).
I like the phone case idea. Would be awesome to see maybe an OtterBox for my S6 with the GW2 logo lol.
Keychain charms might be nice. Could be a logo, could be a profession or skill symbol. Lot of options there.
Obviously tshirts and hoodies with logos are something several of us have asked for. Profession tshirts would be cool too, but maybe that’s just me.
Logo armbands (like the kind that hold an mp3 player, people wear them when they jog or work out out) might be an idea too
I’m essentially offering to walk around with free advertising…
Better than that (from ANet’s perspective): you are willing to pay them cash for the privilege of advertising for them.
And yet they don’t luv us enough to give us these things

Conversely there is nothing stating definitively that he’s not either. Your logic goes both ways.
All we have is speculation, so neither of us is wrong.
I shouldn’t, but I can’t resist. I just want to point out this is completely wrong. The burden of proof lies on the one making a claim. I don’t need any evidence that says Ventari isn’t a rev spec. It’s actually impossible to prove a negative or unfalsifiable claim like that. Therefore the default and base stance is to assume that it is not, and it is the responsibility of the first party to create an argument that shows evidence and demonstrates that their claim is correct. Finding Ventari strings and models in the game files for a Maguuma zone is not evidence that he is a specialization. It’s evidence that he will appear in some form in the expansion, and people speculate that will take the form of a Revenant legend. It could just as easily be a Mist cameo, or a flashback, or even related to the Druid. It could not appear at all.
It turns out that the Rev spec was Ventari. That doesn’t make my original statement incorrect though. The logic only goes one way, not both.
