Rev Staff - Please let it be high DPS!

Given that Ventari was a peace loving centaur, I don’t see staff as being high in dps. However, the blog does stat that this is the first class to use staff as a melee weapon, which means we will see other classes with this option in the future. I expect to see some of those in a more dps heavy role that might fit the OPs desire. But not this one.

$10 for an expansion to an mmo that has been around for almost 3 years with no subscription fee or pay to win features. More than $10 is not worth it to you? Poor Anet. There is no satisfying some of you people.

The full game was literally $10 multiple times very recenently. That’s less than I pay for 2 pints, or a weeks worth of coffee, or lunch at Subway.

/shrug

You pay $10 for lunch at Subway? What do you eat?!

A full sub, a large drink, and chips or a cookie can hit that pretty easily.

With melee staff coming into the game, I’m hoping to see some new staff skins that would fit that type of weapon. Most of the current ones would just look….odd, filling that roll.

“Surge of the Mists” made me chuckle. They essentially gave us the abomination charge with a different name, and (most likely) a heck of lot less power.

The tablet’s functionality is definitely different. I’m not sure exactly how I feel about not having skills in the second half of my bar unless/until I summon it. Looking forward to seeing some of this in the stream tomorrow (assuming they have one).

Seriously…if I won a million dollars?

I have a lot of things I’d be spending money on, and the game is not at the top of that list. Probably about half way down it….

After taxes, I’d have enough to pay off my house, replace my car, pay off assorted student loans, and then set a chunk of money aside for my son’s college tuition (which is coming faster than I care to think about).

I might take a couple hundred and spend it on the game though, after all of that.

Sometimes, I put people on my follower list to note what they do everyday for months. I then put myself on their schedule, try to play with them, because I suffer from obsession whenever I meet someone. When I know what they do, I try to guess their name and adress using reverse psychology, and I get a mad pleasure stalking them.

And before someone screams that MMOs are social games, I will point out that instancing in general is an anti-social model.

No, not really. Making instanced group content isn`t anti-social model as you still have to interact and coop with your team to achieve a certain goal, it prevents mindless, boring, zerging snorefest like most of the world bosses are.

The only challanging one left is Tri-Wurm and Vinewrath and it`s becouse they split large zerg into few smaller groups ( kinda like instancing does).

Just because you are working towards a goal doesn’t make it social. An instance seals you away from everyone except your party members who (if pugging) you likely don’t know and won’t even get to know before the instance is over. Many of them you probably wont add to friends list or even play with again. The last dungeon I did, I pugged. Nobody said a word, not even thank you at the end before they left the group to move on to the next run they were doing. I don’t even remember any of their names. How the hell is that even remotely ‘social’?

Because IT IS an MMO. You don’t play an RTS if you don’t like strategy do you? The heart of this game, and all MMOs is playing well with others.

In fact I would argue the complete opposite, that for HoT to truly shine, it will be through larger group content. GW1 had 8 man dungeons, and I would argue for 12 mans as well.

It is called GUILD Wars after all. Find one and stick

You have MMO RTS out there too, you’re not comparing accurately. GW2 is an RPG – a role playing game, as opposed to your RTS – real time strategy like heroes online. Both are actually MMOs. Both offer solo and group play.

Like I said previously, options are not a bad thing. I’m not against having more group based content, if you choose to play it as a group. I just think they should take more advantage of their ability scale things.

As for ‘find a guild and stick’, I run a guild thanks. All like 6 of us. Make a few more assumptions.

Additionally, I will point out that all of the rest of game is essentially completely solo-able, so there is no reason why very select content should be gated behind grouping.

But why is it a bad thing for some content to require a group? I mean, you can already get dungeon rewards without ever setting foot in the dungeon with PvP tracks. Fractal skins (and tonic) are exclusive to the gameplay mode. Why is that a bad thing to have pure group content?

Because it bars some people from ever experiencing that content. Some people just don’t like grouping, or just prefer to play with 1 or 2 real life people, etc.

It doesn’t affect those that desire to group, so why is it an issue? Why is a bad thing to have options for all player types?

I am not saying to make it easier. Not by any means. In fact, make it harder. Then actually being able to do it solo, duo, or full 5 man is a badge of honor. Then the only barrier to entry is skill, and that’s as it should be.

I would actually like to see them make dungeons and fractals scale-able, or have them reintroduce npc hench. This way people have the option to play how they are comfortable playing. They can choose to pug if they desire, but if they feel uncomfortable because they haven’t done it or done it much, they have the option to just go alone or with a friend or two. Options are not bad things, and it can still remain ‘challenging.’

And before someone screams that MMOs are social games, I will point out that instancing in general is an anti-social model.

Not defending stalkers. If someone legitimately adds you to their friends list and actually stalks you, then that’s an issue that needs to be taken to support.

Just adding someone that you enjoyed playing with so that you can ask them to play again in the future is not stalking. Even as much as I hate people, and hate being required to group with people for certain things (the “challenging” part of content should not be the finding of competent, non-kitten people), this design decision doesn’t even remotely bother me. (And yes, I have a few that regularly ask me if I’d like to fractal or dungeon with them)

At least GW2 shows you who has you on their friend’s list. In GW1 people coudl add you and you’d never know. It’s the same in many other games I have played. Only in some games do you get a pop up that requests the ability to add someone as a friend.

It doesn’t particularly bother me if someone I’ve played with adds me to their friends list and pops up on my followers list. (I have quite a big followers list, which surprises the hell out of me. ) It doesn’t function any different than twitter, for example.

If they give me an issue, then I block them. Generally speaking, if someone is on my block list, I remember why (because it had to be really bad to warrant that action from me).

For wvw, you can google class guides, you can also try sites like metabattle and look at the meta builds for the classes in question. Sometimes they have info on their about expected weaknesses, counter classes to avoid etc and why.

For spvp, all the above applies; however, simply playing the class might be your best bet. The nice thing about spvp is that you don’t actually need to level to play the class, roll one….jump right in.

How much have you spent on Gems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I don’t particularly wish to think about how much I have likely spent in gems. Typically I buy 35$ worth of gems at a time (though I’ve done as low as 10$ and as much as 50$ as well). I’ve done this several times over the lifetime of the game, on two separate accounts. Sometimes both accounts purchase at the same time (so $70 a pop). To me, it’s money well spent because I’m still entertained, I’m still enjoying the game, and I feel like supporting the developers.

I only really start doing the math and thinking about the “price tag” associated with spending on a game’s store when I am dissatisfied with the game. This tends to happen in more of the f2p p2w games (if you aren’t paying, you may as well not bother playing type games).

To do aerobatics with a centaur would be beyond that acceptable level of suspension of disbelief that is necessary in games and movies.

Again, I must disagree. As previously mentioned, our guys can swim pretty darned well in heavy armor. Not to mention all the rolls and flips and the jumping and the running and falling from great heights. We can walk across lava and not die. We can be hurled from a catapult to the top of a high tower, and again, not die.

The point being: our disbelief is already mounted on industrial shock absorbers, and so death blossoming centaurs are no more damaging to the suspension of disbelief than asura not killing themselves whenever they move their heads.

Lol I do actually agree with you on some of your examples. However, I disagree on the centaurs. We’ll just have to leave it at that.

It’s not about the lore/immersion, it’s about the animations/programming/artwork needed to make all skins, skill animations, emotes, jumping, swimming and so on work on a non-bipedal creature.

This is the extra stuff i was referring to Tachenon.

And yes, horses doing flips is right out, condescending tone, mind it, it otherwise conversations wont go anywhere, like this one. Im not even going to respond to you, with that, im out, have a good day sir and or madam whichever you happen to be.

They’re not horses. They’re centaurs. Things which could not possibly exist anyway, so saying that they can’t do impossible things is, well, kinda silly. Don’t you think?

That’s not being condescending, that’s stating what should be obvious.

While I’m not against centaurs as a playable race, I highly doubt we’ll see it. They would need a lot of different animations for certain skills, like death blossom. I get that it’s a game and its fantasy, but Anet does tend to stick to a certain amount of realism. There is no way they would get the rump up over their heads in any comfortable (or believable) manner. Horses don’t move like that, and while yes, they are centaurs, their entire lower half is equine.

I disagree with Anet sticking to a certain amount of realism, or even to any amount of realism, for reasons cited previously in this thread. There are many, many more examples. Mount Maelstrom, for one — what could live in that big chamber full of lava? Nothing realistic.

A centaur performing acrobatics would be no more unrealistic or unbelievable than just about anything else in the game. Why would centaurs be able to do things horses can’t do? Because they also have human-like brains, and, like humans, they could train themselves to do things that otherwise might seem impossible.

If the animators can’t pull it off, that’s one thing. But saying it can’t be done because ‘centaurs can’t do that!’ is not a valid excuse.

I said some, and given what comes out of the lava, there is an acceptable level of suspension of disbelief there.

Again, there are realistic limitations to the form; human-like brains or otherwise. To do aerobatics with a centaur would be beyond that acceptable level of suspension of disbelief that is necessary in games and movies.

Animators can animate pretty much anything, if they so choose. However, not all of it comes out…good.

As for “valid excuse”s simply saying “I want it, I want it” isn’t a valid reason to have it either.

Tempest – a violent windy storm

Ok, I can maybe see the speed….. but how does violent and windy imply precision? ‘Violent’ and ‘windy’ don’t exactly scream ‘accuracy’ to me.

A Few Questions

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I know you can easily swap specialization lines but my ranger is a Sylvari and looks more like a ranger than a druid which is why I wanted to make a new one for the druid class, a Norm

At this point, I wouldn’t plan on shapeshifting.

I know it has been said that one of the elite specs will give the class a break bar, which I believe also means giving them a transform. However, we’re talking things like Tornado, Rampage, and Lich Form. All are very short lived and have long cool downs. Nothing like the WoW shifting (I enjoyed prowling around as a cat as a Feral Druid too, always got my butt kicked in pvp though).

Of the classes that don’t have an elite transform (Guardian (which was already announced so we can rule it out), Ranger, and Thief) I would think Ranger would be the most likely candidate if indeed a transform is part of the break bar.

Well of course they are going to drag it out. It buys them time to work out kinks. Personally, I say let them take as much time as they need to get kitten right. The reveals are at least mildly entertaining in the interim.

While I’m not personally overly interested in the Rev, I can live with their release cadence. Not all the information will pertain to me anyway, but it pertains to someone. Just like when they did the WvW announcement, it did nothing for me as I’m not a WvW player. Doesn’t mean those players don’t deserve some love and some info though (which you’d like was what a lot of people thought based on the amount of kittening around here).

Patience is a virtue… (I know, sometimes its really difficult though)

LanfearShadowflame.3189

We don’t know if Druid has shapeshifting ability at this time. It likely won’t be anything like the WoW shift, even if it does. Additionally, considering we can easily swap our specialization lines when out of combat, there isn’t a “need” to have 2 rangers unless you desire to do so for the enjoyment of it.

Ranger is speculated to be the next elite specialization revealed, so potentially next week. (We’re pretty certain its not this week based on the twitter comment)

'Legendary Centaur' stance for the Rev?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Mallyx and Jarlis seem to follow their GW1 ‘themes’ so it should be safe to assume Venatri, Glint, and Shiro may possess similar themes to their GW1 counterparts.

For example check out what Mallyx’s monster skills used to do – consume hexes and conditions to heal, force foes to shadow step away from him, strip enchants – and you see a lot of that in the available play for this legend.

Since Ventari was an extreme pacifist, I can see his line being a support/boons/healing line, as others have said.

Shiro would be my guess for dps, with lots of shadow stepping. Of course, looking through Shiro’s assorted monster skills (needed a refresher) we could see some life steal in his skills too, maybe not though as I think it might step on the Necro’s toes a bit much.

Glint, based on her previous skills, actually makes me think control. Crystal bonds stripped an enchant, slowed the character, and made them immune to having an enchant re-applied. Crystal Haze was energy denial, since other classes don’t use energy, not sure if they could reuse this. But wouldn’t this be interesting if it was implemented as endurance denial? A counter to vigor! (I can dream). Then we have Crystal Hibernate – heal when taking non physical damage, and Jagged Crystal Skin – when hit with physical damage, nearby foes takes ‘x’ damage.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

IE: no half charr half humans or w/e running around.

The only reason I remember that tidbit of info was because of my reaction to it at the time, lol.

Wasnt that in the book that came with the collectors edition or whatever, the behind the scenes type thing? Maybe?

I didn’t buy the boxed collector’s edition, so that’s not where I got it from. It was an online article, that much I recall. I just don’t know who it was with.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Speculation on elementalists new weapon

Melee longbow. Oh wait, ranger already has that.

mmmm…. salty.

More to the point. It’s probably going to be sword, as it goes pretty well with Ele and the theme of “Tempest” (which, to me, implies speed and precision)

Tempest – a violent windy storm

Ok, I can maybe see the speed….. but how does violent and windy imply precision? ‘Violent’ and ‘windy’ don’t exactly scream ‘accuracy’ to me.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Just capped my Ele and need gear advice.

I have 2 ascended amulets, both are zerk stats – one offensive for when I need or desire the extra punch (generally group play), one utility with a karma inscrip for event farming (I’m always low on karma these days). I know others like to have a magic find buff for farming as well.

HoT confusing to professional game reviewer?

LanfearShadowflame.3189

So yeah, the amount of things the reviewer says he doesn’t understand or is confused by is rather… alarming?

Alarming? No
Hilarious? Yes. Oh Absolutely!

Unfortunately this ‘reviewer’ suffers from simple lack of knowledge because he hasn’t been 1) playing the game and 2) following any of the released information. He just sort of jumped in. In the middle of a war zone, none the less. So yeah, I can see why he’s a bit discombobulated.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

All previous specialization announcements have had an image showing the profession being teased. Unless Revenants or Druids shapeshift into centaurs, I don’t think ArenaNet would break the trend.

The Mallyx elite shape shifts you into a demon. Jarlis elite turns you to stone. Completely possible the Ventari elite turns you into a centaur… (and there are datamined images from that_shaman as well for this)

Those apply a shader and particle effects. They don’t turn you into a 4-legged manhorse. That is a completely different mesh frame and set of animations. It’s like Reaper of Grenth or Deathshroud compared to Lich Form.

This could work similar to the Glint channel we see Rytlock do, only with Ventari. Hard to tell really. We haven’t seen the datamined Shiro yet either, so who knows what Revenant is capable of.

Only reasonable reply. Seems like it would be the most realistic explanation for breaking the trend if it was the Rev spec.

There’s also the distinct possibility Ventari is not the rev spec. It’s baseless speculation, people just like connecting dots. There’s nothing that says the Ventari stuff is Rev related, and it if it was then it would have heavy thematic overlap with druid.

If it weren’t for the datamining, sure, we could say there is nothing tying Ventari to Revenant. Except that he’s a well known legend and we know the revenant channels legends and it would be logical to think he might be included….

There’s nothing directly tying Ventari to the Revenant profession besides speculation, which is exactly what you just posted. It’s not like we had little “Rev legend” tags under the datamined information.

There is no information available that confirms Ventari is related to Revenants. There is nothing even very concrete that heavily hints at it. The logic begins and ends at “Ventari is a legendary figure, Revs are related to legends.” Therefore, the possibility remains that Ventari is not in fact related to Revenants. Tell me why I am wrong.

Conversely there is nothing stating definitively that he’s not either. Your logic goes both ways.

We could speculate that Ventari could be tied to the Druid spec, and gives rangers a form (they did say that someone would be getting a form and a break bar), but there are no facts to tie those together either.

All we have is speculation, so neither of us is wrong.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I have a different theory.

Since there is no weapon or armor shown – and this doesnt look like a current playable race -

I think this image is a teaser for the “difficult content” blog they have been talking about, especially given the accompanying quote.

I’d be perfectly ok with that too!

I’d also be good with that!

Forgive me for being excitable for the possibility for good things coming to a class I enjoy

That being said, I hope the Ventari Legend doesn’t overlap too much with the Druid specialization. I prefer to think of my character classes as snowflakes

Nope, it’s completely acceptable to be hyped for your preferred class’ spec. I’m waiting impatiently for Tempest.

Given that we know nothing about either the Ventari line or the Druid specialization, its hard to speculate. I wouldn’t think they would make them too close to each other, but we shall see.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Maybe Ventari is the Revenant elite spec, and unlike the ‘core’ specs it has an actual ‘form’ like Lich Form as it’s elite. The basic point here is we don’t have all the information on Revenant, so anything is possible.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Given that it’s a centaur, a Ventari quote, and we have datamined info of a Ventari legend for Revanent, it more likely to be Revenant related info this week.

“Life can be painful, but do not fear the trials you will face. Hard ground makes stronger roots.” IS a Ventari quote. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ventari

So I’m guessing we’re getting Revenant related info this week.
