I just wanted to make a science joke. :-/

Most science logic in a game forces a “404: logic not found” error. Otherwise, how can you explain a character carrying up to 40 thousand gold ingots? Or 40 thousand planks of wood? Not only is the first example going to weigh quite a bit (possibly several tons), the second example is going to be awkward to carry considering the planks are going to be up to 6 feet in length.

Wormhole bags.

Duh. ;-)

Ok, that made me chuckle

I doubt it. They can not do the “create all” button to MF or “use all” option at inventory, but when it comes to deleting anything they right there. Really. After all, it is much more important functionally option – people are always lost in these tabs, right? It became just impossible to play…

You’d be surprised what people gripe about…

I don’t know why they didn’t bother putting those functions in, I’m not a dev. I have no clue what they are thinking. Although, they never put such functions into GW1 either. Maybe they consider them trivial and not as important as you and others seem to considering them to be. Would they be nice? Sure. Handy? Yup.

They aren’t really deleting anything, they are just disabling it. It’s less than a 10 sec query to do (set column = false where x criteria = y. basically). Coding for the other options might require a little more since you need the coded functionality, the ui graphic, any additional animation, and potentially sound. I mean, it’s not huge but it is a heck of a lot more work in comparison. Sort of beside the point though.

We’ll see these skins again though. I’m almost positive of it. Maybe even available through better options, but who knows.

In this case the “not a real world” argument is valid.

You have to remember the reason behind clearance sales in real world. They are used to (as their name implies) clear magazine space out of things that don’t sell. It is used, because magazine space is not only limited, but costly. No real world shop can afford to keep merchandize on shelves for too long.

This is not the case in this game. This “clearance” sale has absolutely nothing to do with clearance. The “magazine” space is not freed (the skins will not be removed from the game – they will remain in wardrobe, or on people who have them already). What is saved are two tabs on a npc – whose cost is negligible.

TL/DR: there’s absolutely no justification to comparing this situation with real life “equivalents”, because real life considerations behind those equivalents do not apply here.

In a sense the same is happening in game. People have complained / are complaining that some of the npcs have too many tabs to dig through to find what they are after. Anet is ‘clearing out’ unpopular or low selling (theoretically, don’t know for sure) items to reuse those tabs for new lines. Its the same concept.

Yes, if you’re talking data space on the back end, it’s extremely negligible. However UI space is limited, and while they could indeed add yet another merchant npc, that would only further aggravate those claiming that there is too much to dig through.

Honestly, the suggestion made previously is probably the best idea. For items in the wardrobe that require a purchase via gems or black lion tickets, have some type of mouse over that you can simply ‘click and purchase’. No hunting down the npc. Streamlined purchasing. No need to remove a set to make space. No muss, no fuss, no hassle. I like it.

3) The particle affects are adjustable, to some extent. They really should not be so over the top that it makes everyone around me lag. I do have some consideration for others…

That’s so sweet. And naive. People will do the opposite, trying by any means to stack auras and boost their egos.

Oh, I realize people will do the opposite. I’m not that stupid.

Thus why I said that particle effect should not be over the top as to make everyone around me lag. I probably should have clarified further that it shouldn’t be over the top when turned all the way up.

Conversely, we could use some (additional) graphics tools to allow us to control some of the partical affects of those around us. I mean, we have some limited options currently, but I know some people have asked for more ways to deal with other player particle effects.

People use argument “like in the real world” in the same circumstances. But it, all the same, is a game. The game which, btw, we had already bought. You can not build the whole economy of b2p game on the principles designed only to sell as much as possible to players. Need to comply with reasonable limits. In my opinion, this game has passed them.

I don’t see how comparing it to the real life scenario it’s modeled after is such a big deal. Like I said before, I was simply pointing out that they are simply modeling a concept that already exists. Its nothing new, but that’s beside the point now.

Yup it’s a game. Yup we already bought it. I don’t believe their base principle is to sell as much to the player as they can. (Although, as with all businesses I’m sure they have a bottom line that they have to work with) There is a heck of a lot more they could have easily locked behind pay walls, but didn’t. I will agree that at times they stress the gem shop a bit much, but I don’t think they have surpassed that reasonable limit you’re talking about. Although, that probably varies from person to person by a wide margin.

I agree with you, sort of. I think the problem is that there has been so little communication about the problems and future of the game (the trait system, the megaservers, all of the problems that existed before the feature patch) that this feels like a distraction rather than an acknowledgement of requests.

Again, I’m not complaining here, I think it’s great. I hope they roll straight into SAB after it (though ideally I want SAB and the gauntlet back permanently and think the game would benefit from it). But if a load of people are asking for answers to really serious questions, and you come on stage after weeks of silence and instead of answers offer them something they’ve already had that you took away from them in the first place well… reactions aren’t going to be that positive.

Yeah, it’s a distraction, but being one doesn’t necessarily preclude the other reasons though. It can be a distraction and still be done to fulfill the request. If that makes sense?

Honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever get straight answers to a lot of the questions being posed. Anet simply does not talk to us because we treat them like garbage. (Not everyone obviously, but enough) I can’t really blame them. I mean, they used to be a bit more talkative. Hell, they even tried doing blogs. You can see how that worked out… Put yourself in their shoes. Would you really want to waste your time and effort when all it’s going to amount to is being kittened at? I sure as hell wouldn’t. And yet they still make some attempts, despite it.

I guess I look at it differently is all.

As someone who has wanted these areas back for ages (actually I want them back permanently), I’m not complaining, but I can see the issue. Bringing these back is fantastic, but they’re being brought back instead of new content, rather than in addition to it. We’re in a bit of a dead period update wise, and there are a LOT of problems that need addressing since the last patch. Giving us content to play with while they work on stuff is a great move, but its still reasonable to be annoyed at the lack of new stuff.

It’d be like if they turned off Bloodtide Coast for a few months and then, in the middle of a period where there are lots of problems with the game and after weeks of no updates or even news of updates, they turn it back on. Obviously it’d be great to have Bloodtide Coast back, but treating it like a replacement for an update just doesn’t make sense. This is made even worse by the notion that Bloodtide would probably get turned off again after a few weeks.

Yes, we’re in a dead period; however, they’ve explained why we have this dead period. They are focused on China. It’s not like they aren’t giving us new content because they have none. We’ve been told we’ll see content once China launches. So it’s not like we’re in the dark and wonder what’s going on. This was sort to be expected. How in the world did people manage when they had to wait 18 to 24 months for expansions? We can’t even manage like 4 months….

Yes, we want content. Even I am excited for new content to play. However, for the most part people have simply been asking for ‘something to do.’ SAB, BotFW, QG. Busy work. They are giving us precisely what we asked for… something to keep us busy.

I can understand that people want content. I really can. However, people need to be a little less…needy? kitteny? entitled? I really don’t know what to call it/them, they just need to learn some patience.

I’m with Vol, for the most part regarding this. I have a feeling that Cantha was nixed because of the China plans, which would have been in negotiation during the making of the game. China is very touchy about how their culture is represented, and Cantha… well, as it was represented in GW1, I could see them taking issue with it.

That doesn’t mean we won’t ever see Cantha. It just means that if they ever do add it, it will be distinctly different if they want to be able to market it to their Chinese player base.

Legendary Armor: Yes or No?

I have no great issue with Legendary armor, as long as:

1) It works the same way weapons do – always top tier (so, on par with ascended) and has swappable stats. Considering what I would assume I would need to sink into such armor, in both time and materials, one set should be all I ever ‘need.’ (Do note the quotes there)

2) Precursors for it are not RNG based. Make me craft them, make me turn ascended into them via some combination of gifts, give me a quest for them. Hell make me do a jumping puzzle and give it as a guaranteed reward. Those are all fine. No. More. RNG. Plz, ty.

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I don’t have an issue with this….

First, there is nothing saying that these will never be back. Of course, conversely there is nothing saying they will either, but if we’ve seen anything from Anet, it is their use of repetition. I do believe that these would come back eventually, though perhaps in a more guaranteed manner of purchase. Which, I know some would prefer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the winter’s weapons started returning as an annual thing as part of wintersday (which was how they started).

Second, all merchants have ‘clearance’ sales where they simply prune their selections. That’s all this is. They are ‘phasing out’ old merchandise that isn’t selling or isn’t popular enough, and making room for new stuff. It’s really not like this is some unheard of, underhanded tactic. We experience it every day in the real world.

This is not a real world, m8. They have already removed the tone of things that did not return after. They just do not care, i think. I rather believe that they do it because they have no desire to bother putting one more merchant in each capital.

/begin rant
You know, people only use the ‘its not real world’ argument only when it suits their needs. Otherwise its a perfectly fine and useful comparison. Make up your minds one way or the other people, you can’t have it both ways. (general ‘you’, not ‘you’ specific)
/end rant

/on topic
I realize this is not ‘real world,’ it is a game. All games have features that are modeled after real world concepts, whether we like them or not.

My point, however, was simply that this is not some unheard of backhanded tactic. (Since people were carrying on like this was some new, unheard of thing) Retailers do it every day. For whatever reason(s), they have opted to copy this model. If these skins are not popular, and are not being purchased, I can understand this choice. Additionally, by removing them – ie, making them ‘limited time’ once again, it increases the player’s desire to obtain them which, yes, generates more revenue for the company in the form of additional sales. This isn’t new. Nor has it ever been an unacceptable practice in retail. This feature in the game just adds a touch more depth and realism to it. To make players realize ‘well kitten, it’s not going to be there for ever and ever’ and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Could they potentially never return? Sadly, yes. That is always a risk we run. However, people believed that fused and jade weapons would never return either, and they did. We simply don’t know, and can’t know one way or the other, because we can’t see the future.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I feel Karma / Order / WvW armor should be salvageable, personally, OP. However PvEers have no say either way. It’s up to the devs’ to decide what should and should not be.

Now, obviously if they feel that it would result in too many easy ectos, perhaps they should simply remove ectos from those items’ salvage tables. That’d be my thought, but perhaps they simply feel leaving them as non-salvageable is the easier route.

I believe some people simply enjoy that aspect of game play. A place to build and customize and call ‘theirs’. Some people desire it for role playing purposes.

I did enjoy being able to build my HoM in GW1, having it reflect my accomplishments, but I don’t think it’s quite the same thing. Close though, I think, for some.

Still, Anet has stated that player housing (along with guild halls) are something they do want to add to the game. They stated that it wouldn’t be available at launch, but it would eventually. They’ve also stated recently that they are still on the todo list, just not actively being looked at.

Items and Crafting feel Worthless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I agree with others that there are currently a lot of skins in the game.

I also agree that we could use some new armors in the game, not just the gem store. I don’t believe they need to tied to crafting necessarily. They could put 1 piece at the end of 6 different jumping puzzles as a JP reward, for example. That would be cool with me.

I also agree with the OP that there needs to be a little something ‘more’ to crafting. Something to make it a little more desirable in some instances. I know a lot of people find it unrewarding and lackluster. I like the system, but I think we need more incentive to build the crafts. Perhaps adding some type of account bonus (tailors can salvage or earn ‘x’ more ‘cloth type’ at ‘y’ level) or something. In a lot of instances crafting is a gold sink, rather than a gold maker, and that doesn’t seem right imo.

I’ve spent several hundred as well, but this is counting my husband’s gem purchases as well as my own. We don’t buy gems every month (even though I have a ‘gaming’ allotment in the monthly budget, which rolls over if not used). Depending on what’s in the store or if Anet did something we want to support, then we buy them. We’ve spent a couple hundred in the last couple of months, to show our support of the reusable gemstore skins (which we bought a few), and we upgraded to the deluxe edition while it was half off, and we bought another character slot, etc etc.

Generally speaking we don’t purchase the rng based items (specialty dye packs, the LS boxes when they were doing those, black lion keys, etc) as we don’t support that type of thing in the store. I do occasionally buy minis, but not often.

I can agree with adjusting this event so she’s ‘not melted like butter’ as someone else put it. (Hmm, oddly, I’m hungry for seafood now)

I’d like to see it adjusted so that it takes a little more than just smashing 1 to kill her. Obviously there is a tiny bit of coordination to get all 4 camps, but her battle itself could use some more mechanics imo.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Lol that’s one helluva comparison…. although, personally, I’d still take the Faygo (don’t like Champagne).

How do you "casual" ?

Lawl… apparently, by other peoples’ definitions I’m not ‘casual’. Although, but my own definition, I am a very casual player. I play an hour or so a day, if I have time.

Sometimes I do the champ train (wonderful for dailies and monthlies).
Sometimes I clear maps (still working on 100% world completion).
Sometimes I build a lower level character.
I’m working towards making my first set of ascended (oh the pain).
Sometimes I run some dungeons (for fun, or do a path to work towards dungeon master).
Sometimes I karma train in EotM (doubly useful for leveling a char too )
Sometimes I pop into regular WvW and help cap objectives.
Occasionally I wander into SoloQ, get stomped 3 or 4 times, and wander back out…
Sometimes I just pick an achievement from the achievement panel that I don’t have done and work towards it.

An End to the Queensdale Train

In regards to the comment that other starter zones don’t have a champ train, I would like to point out that Caledon does indeed have a champ train cycle, though it is not as popular (probably just because most people aren’t aware I guess).

Edit: Or at least it did. I haven’t checked since the 15th to see if all 5 stops are still champs. I don’t recall if all of them where events. I know at least 2 of them where.

…. they started releasing cute hats a year ago with the bear and quaggan hats. Why does this have to be over analyzed like this? They’re cute head ggear. Nothing wrong with that.

And now they can be skinned onto armor.

Yes this takes away the “grrr, MMOs are serious business” by having players in non-spiky armor. But I would be temped to by a Jayne “style” knit cap for a warrior (hint, hint).

Excellent…. now just need to go buy Vera…

Personality system. Deleted or forgotten?

Don’t know if it’s that what you’re looking for, but
under the tab “My Story” —> “I’m …”, you still find what your Character’s preference is.

Only dignity, ferocity or charm seem to appear there… if i remember correctly there has been a multitude of other “personality types” before the 15. of April.

Yeah, your ‘personality type’ would change on the hero panel, depending on how much of the different types of responses you had given. I had all 3 bars about 75% full on my ele and her ‘personality type’ was shown as ‘Unpredictable’ It was awesome

This is completely doable in a pug group Jeff. It’s not easy. It is by no means a stand and spam 1 boss, but it can be done. This event does not need dumbing down, it simply takes knowledge and coordination.

Honestly, I hope a few more of the World Bosses get a ‘Tequatl’ like revamp…

PvE Dueling

In all fairness…

Discussions about whether a feature is going to even be in the game will generate more extremes of emotion. If someone requests a duel and the other person declines, the dueler can find someone else. If someone thinks another poster is a contributing cause to his never getting to duel anyone in GW2 , that will generate a greater reaction. That’s not to say any given person will or won’t harass in games or forums, just correcting the impression that the propensity for harassment would be greater in game.

Yes, that is true. I won’t argue that. However, on the flip side of that coin, it doesn’t mean it wont either. One does not necessarily preclude the other. None of us can see the future so there truly is no accurate way to tell, one way or another. Personally, I prefer the ‘plan for the worst’ approach.

Edit: I give up on spelling today… too many things going on at once lol

I’m hoping they are just doing an overhaul of that system. We did discuss during 1 of the CDI’s that we would like that system to have more meaning, to have more impact on the game play. They may be doing that… we’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

What will China think of the Cantha purge?

Considering the way Cantha was portrayed in GW1, the game opening in the China market may have been why it was purged…

Absolutely in favor of this. Cooking has sooooo many subcomponents. An additional collection tab for those would be nice, but probably not entirely necessary either. Would still be appreciated though.
