I agree with those that say this doesn’t belong in the wallet. The wallet is for ‘currencies’ and these are not currencies. As a crafting material, they do belong in the bank, in the collections tab.
I can see maybe making them vendorable (not tradable, just merch food). I can see creating MF recipes to convert one type to another. I can also see giving us more things in which they are a component of. That’s about it though.
On one hand I see players constantly refer to Asian MMOs as nothing but mindless grinds but Asian MMOs are successful in Asia.
Some players think GW2 is a mindless grind (I’m not one) so by that logic shouldn’t Asia also they love this game?
^lol so much that.
I don’t find the game to be a grind, but it’s all perspective. What I enjoy doing, vs what someone else enjoys doing is not necessarily the same. What I like, they may see as grind. What they like, I may see as grind. shrug
Keep in mind that the game got some interesting overhauls for China, things we don’t have (some of which I hope we never do). It’s not quite the same animal…
Can confirm most armor on Charr looks downright silly.
Nonsense sir. Here is a picture of my Charr wearing her light armor.
Notice how well fitting is is and how the hood is purrfect on her.
Just because a Charr is a giant cat is no reason to think that clothing looks funny on them.

That look says ‘remember to check your shoes in the morning’
/no thank you
All I have to say to that….
what is it with people and the school girl outfits? that’s just creepy and wrong….
That’s not creepy, it’s just a school uniform showing a bit of leg.
Oh yeah, that’s creepy too….
I don’t mind showing leg, do it on my characters all the time…

Meh … much better looking than many of the light armor choices.
Not really, imo. I mean, yeah, the light armor needs help, but still… that’s just creepy.
Disagree. I want my little Asura to be like Hermione. Don’t kill my dreams!
Oh gosh that mental image is terrifying!
Terrifyingly cute.
Cute is not the word I would apply to it. lol
Lovely… Leviathans from Supernatural are now floating through my mind. Hermione with Asuran teeth…and claws…. where’d a put that bib?
+1 for reference
-1 for not finding studious Asura cute.
Studious asura, cool. Asure in mini skirt showing off them knobbly legs? Concerning…
On Asura the skirt really isn’t even mini. It goes down past their knees iirc.
It’s cute and you should like it, darn it!
Eh, I guess if it not actually ‘mini’ it might be ok (down past the knees like you said). My concern is that they do make it really truly ‘mini’ (and you know they’d do it).

I love the naysayers,
but to be fair, everyone. WvW should not have to mix into PvE and PvE shouldnt have to mix with WvW. Anet has a thing of pushing players into modes they don’t want to do. Because obviously “we don’t know what we want”
I won’t argue with that. They do like trying to tie things across modes to get you to at least try it out.
It’s just like them requiring the pvp arenas in GW1 to the cartographer titles. Is the same thing….

Now see, I didn’t think asking for his account details was appropriate.
I’m sure he is not using the unique password anywhere else, right?
Could change if beforehand … don’t need to have the game installed for that. But I see what you mean, then he would lose control over the forum account as well … let’s not tell him and we’ll do 50/50.
chuckle
Mums the word…..
Dear OP, there is no need for you to re-install the game, please PM me your account name and login and I will take care of this for you. Don’t mind the vultures, they only want your stuff. I care about your stuff.
Now see, I didn’t think asking for his account details was appropriate.
Take a lvl 80 character to EotM and just follow the commander tag. Most just ‘cap and move.’ Just keep flipping the various objectives. As long as everyone is in ‘agreement’ there isn’t much actual player vs player. Usually….depends on the people you end up with, some prefer the blob on blob action…
I haven’t played many MMOs, but I don’t find GW2 to be all that grindy. As others have pointed out, it will depend on what you like to do and how you like to play.
For me, I enjoy leveling characters. I’m only half way through my 24 characters right now, and still enjoying it. I do the same things on them – map clearing, champ training in QD, dungeoning when they are high enough, even karma train running in eotm. Not bored yet, but that’s just me. I know to a lot of others that would be considered boring, repetitive, grind. Just depends on your perspective…
Hmph, I’m only a rabbit, but even I understand these basics. Sheesh. It’s not rocket science.
This really isn’t that much different than (correctly played) GW1 AB. Each map has it’s specifics obviously, but so did the AB maps. It’s really not so hard to pick up…
what is it with people and the school girl outfits? that’s just creepy and wrong….
If s/he uninstalled it’s not like s/he can send us her/his stuff…. sadly XD
This is an interesting gripe though. I mean, most people complain bc they have to do wvw for their mapping… not that its the same map 3 times over. chuckle
They can always re-install to increase the dramatic effect. Then we get the stuff.
rofl
I’d had that thought too honestly, but I find it highly unlikely.
I mean, if they are in a snit over this (after doing all the other maps across multiple characters to begin with), I just don’t see it happening. Too stubborn.
They can always re-install to increase the dramatic effect. Then we get the stuff.
Kitten! I didn’t think of that! OP please reinstall and send your stuff to me and Yargesh! :-P
And me! Don’t forget me!

And what would you call this Megaserver system then? It’s all overflows with no main map. It’s practically taking the Main map out, leaving only overflows, but with a different name slapped on it.
It’s not that we’re never happy. If you present us with a solution that causes more problems than the issue presented before, then we have every right in the world to be unhappy. Megaservers is a huge overhaul into the game. The overhaul normally takes months of planning, testing, and making sure it works with every aspect of the game before it becomes implemented. But when you have 100 people testing it, it doesn’t show any problems, because they always will end up on the same map. The testing group was way too small to detect any issues that are now presented because of hundreds of thousands of people playing. It just doesn’t work anywhere near as advertised either.
The mega-server has been semi-successful. Personally, the only issue I’ve had with it is some lag due to having more people around. (Ok, and maybe being scared out of my skin because I run into people where I’m used to having no one around). So, for some, it works ‘as intended’ in that regard.
It’s by no means perfect, and yes, for some it seems to be more bothersome than overflows. The conversations I’ve seen in game are pretty 50/50 for like vs dislike, and the biggest complaint is simply due to the boss schedule. However, that’s just my perspective on it. The forum, yes, is overwhelmingly negative, but taking into consideration the overall stance of the forum, it’s always pretty negative. Rarely is the majority on here positive.
Are they working on adjusting the mega server? They’ve said they are. Is it working as intended? Probably to some degree, but they aren’t going to tell us one way or the other. Most businesses simply don’t. The simple fact is that they are at least trying though, and we should give them credit for that.
Was their testing team / environment potentially too small? Very possible, but then again there have been several things that worked just as well full scale as they did in the small scale. We simply don’t know, nor are we ever going to.
Interesting…. just a couple months ago it was ‘overflows are the bane of community events.’ Now it’s mega servers….
kitten ed if they do…. kitten ed if they don’t
Actually kittened when they do it wrong.
I didn’t say it was right….. I’ll agree that it’s got some serious kinks that need ironing out.
However, according to some nothing in the whole kitten game is ‘right.’ Ever
They can’t win. It doesn’t matter what they do, or try to do, people are absolutely never happy.

All we are asking for is a new ETA for the new legendaries. Something as vague as “later this year” would do.
I’d like that too, honestly. I’d like to see Colin do another looking ahead blog.
However, based on how the community tends to respond when things don’t go 100% according to plan, I find it highly doubtful that he will. This is not the first thread bashing them for ‘not keeping promises’ (that they didn’t make to begin with).
Back on topic: It sounds like your pulling some assumptions out of the air. You assume that the same people doing the legendary stuff are the same as those that did feature patch content (and they may have been, but no way to know). You also assume that they put all their development power into that one patch, and again maybe, but I doubt it. It may have been their focus, but I doubt everyone was dedicated to that.
This is no different than people saying they put all their development into LS, and it turns out that in fact all of their development wasn’t on LS. Several of the teams working on the feature pack items were/are completely separate from the LS teams. Additionally, they have/had people working on all the modifications for the China client (no small task).
You did say one thing that was absolutely true, we all assume, and we don’t have any other choice as they don’t give us any concrete information at all so there is nothing left but assumption.
And it’s fine to speculate, to an extent. It’s something entirely different to make remarks like they don’t keep their promises, they’ve done ‘no’ work on, etc etc.
You’re right, we don’t know. You’re also right that they aren’t talking to us, and this thread is an excellent example of why they aren’t talking to us. Colin tried telling us what projects they were working on. Tried giving us a tentative timeline as to when they planned to have it done. It was stated that it was not set in stone. It was stated that it could be pushed back or even scrapped depending on various things. As soon as the tentative deadline passed (even though Colin stated prior to the end of the year that they weren’t going to make that deadline, but the project wasn’t scrapped by any means) people start kittening that Anet did’t keep their promise when they did not promise anything. They were simply trying to be transparent in regards to projects being worked on.
I would understand if they actually tried to work towards it. But instead of spending valuable time towards things that’s been asked for such a long time by so many, they’re putting their workload towards features like megaservers that’s nobody asked for it ridiculous.
Side note: people asked for underflow server that would trigger like an overflow if the minimum playercount wasn’t met, but it’d still work as an option where you can stay on the same map. What Anet did instead is put all their development power to create a complete overhaul. People didn’t like the idea of overflows either, instead we don’t have “overflows” anymore, since they’ve been renamed to “megaservers”.
In regards to your example with a kid. With Anet at this point, they couldn’t “hang with the kid” not because of actual reasons, but because they felt like painting a portrait of the backyard, which will end up on top of the pile in the basement covering dust. They need to adjust their priorities. Especially since Megaservers gave them more issues than thing they “fixed”. And yet they’re not addressing any of them either…
Oh that’s rich.
You know for certain that they absolutely put no effort towards it all? I’m assuming you can back that statement up with some proof? I mean, it’s not like a dev / community manager didn’t say just before the patch that the legendary stuff wouldn’t be in the patch due to it needing to be reworked. “Needing to be reworked” tells me that they at least made some progress on it, enough to see that it was no longer compatible with the recent updates.
Side Tangent: One downside to different teams, A does not always know what B is doing, and can cause such issues… happens a lot where I work, actually.

It’s like you telling your kid you plan on doing ‘x’ with them, but instead something comes up and now you no longer have time to do ‘x’ with them.
It’s not “like” the example you gave, it IS the same thing. People are complaining that mommy and daddy didnt do what they “promised to do” because something came up, and cant understand nothing was promised in the first place.
I guess I should have said “For example” instead. But yeah, I know it’s the same thing. I go through this with my son all the time.
The keyword is ‘planned’ and then they further stated that (like all plans) things could change.
You know what they say about ‘even the best laid plans’…..
There is a distinct difference between ‘planning’ on something happening, and ‘promising’ that something will happen.
That’s what all the politicians say. I promised, I planned, things changed. And it is so working for their popularity. In other words, you should not promise something you cannot deliver.
They didn’t promise though. They said we are working on ‘x’. We plan on having it done by the end of ‘y.’ However, as with all things related to development, this could change based on ‘a’ ‘b’ and ‘c’. That’s how it works. kitten happens.
It’s like you telling your kid you plan on doing ‘x’ with them, but instead something comes up and now you no longer have time to do ‘x’ with them. You planned on ‘x’, something else made it not possible to do in the time you had allotted for it. You neither lied, nor did you promise anything.
Nothing political about it. That’s just how life happens.
…and that’s why developpers should never put a date on anything. People will treat it like the return of Jesus.
Well except for the fact that Jesus said that no one, not even him knew when he was coming back…
Anet on the other hand very specifically said that these things were planned to be implemented in 2013. Yet here we are, 5 months later and not a peep…
Jesus: 1, Anet: 0.
The keyword is ‘planned’ and then they further stated that (like all plans) things could change.

Well said. And I agree. I’m just being childish and screaming “now! now! now! mine! mine! mine!”

Wow, looney toons flash back there.
I want to go back too. I completely understand, but I don’t want it just handed to us, like they did with the Torment weapons. Those should have returned when DoA returned, not just popped into the store. It devalues their meaning in the original game, to an extent.
I also don’t want some copy/paste version of it either. It’s been 250+ years. Things have changed, evolved. I want to see that reflected in the god realms.
Maybe Menzies has finally shown his face and we get to kick his kitten in FoW this time as the big ‘end boss.’
Maybe Dhumm is free of his chamber in UW, and Grenth is actively trying to contain him and we have to help with that. Maybe even save Grenth from being taken out… (Dhumm being a full god vs Grenth only half, sort of makes me think he might need a hand)
Something new, something epic. Something that could happily kick our kitten if we weren’t careful. And a party wipe should boot you out and make you start over, just like in GW1. Really make it interesting.
I enjoyed FoW and UW as well, not so much ToPK.
FoW and UW (and DoA technically) are god realms though, and in the current lore the gods have retreated from / lost the ability to touch Tyria. With the exception of a single story mission, we have no access to any of the gods’ avatars, and it was Balth’s and Grenth’s avatars that gave us access to those areas.
Until humans regain contact with their gods, I don’t see us getting access to those realms. Even then, we have to consider if that would fit with the existing lore (I know, some of you don’t care, but some of us do), considering the world is not human-centric anymore.
Considering the number of groups you have to join and leave in order for this pop into active mode is usually quite high (unless you encounter a bug, which I never have), perhaps it’s justified.
This exists solely to reduce the greifing of joining, leaving, joining, leaving, repeatedly. And not necessarily joining a different group each time. There are some people that will repeatedly join, and leave the same group, impeding their ability to get people that actually want to play through a dungeon. That’s why this exists.
Keep in mind that the blog you reference does also state that things could be pushed back or even scrapped due to a variety of variables.
Colin did state in either November or December that the legendary armor and precursor would miss their deadlines. As quoted, he has stated that we will still see them.
Just before the feature pack, another dev stated that precursor crafting was on hold because it no longer worked with the updated systems and needed reworking.
kitten happens in development. Sometimes it pushes things back. Add on top of that the China launch (which feels like an even more massive overhaul to how the game works, no little bit of effort there), yeah I can see things getting pushed back a bit. We’ve been told it’s still coming, be content that they haven’t simply told us ‘sorry, we scrapped it’ instead.
I found them worth it, and have 3 sets that I swap between characters as I play. It’s just easier to grab a single set and not have to worry about running out, not having the right set for the area, or finding a merch to buy them from as I play through.
Just my 2c though…
I’m going to agree with several others that zones do tend to have enough content to get you through the recommended range (ie, 40 to 50), if you have some patience.
If you are playing the ‘traditional’ way that other MMOs have trained us, you’re liking running from heart to heart, collecting PoIs and Vistas, and gathering along the way. You’re killing mobs, and participating in the surface events you run across. However, that won’t cut it as you found out OP.
You may have 100% map completion by completing the superficial layer of content, but as other have pointed out there are usually several hidden elements, including jumping puzzles and mini dungeons. Beyond that, a lot of people simple dismiss events as one offs, when most of them tend to be chains. A sequence of events to follow to experience the world a little more in depth. Sometimes, those chains have to have something very specific done to kick them off.. like talking to an out of the way npc that 90% of people may miss because they don’t ‘explore.’ Instead, they play as mentioned above and completely bypass those rich little additions.
Hearts dwindle as the game progresses into the higher levels. They are…guideposts, to help you ‘event hunt’ so to speak. They are supposed to help train you to explore, to pay attention to the conversations around you so that you can find some of the hidden goodies.
+1 to Astral’s explanation
Repair canisters should only be used in places like final bosses in dungeons – where you can’t repair. same for reviver orb.
Revive orbs are rather handy in JPs too, so you don’t have to wp your sorry butt out and start all over. (Guess who learned this the hard way?)
One of the advertised perks of the game was not needing to make a new character to play with your lower level friends. The OP should not have to ‘make a new character’ to play with the friend that is leveling. This was the entire point of downscaling.
Obviously it’s never been perfect, since even before the crit normalization, people did not scale down well. Not to mention it was developed with exotic originally being the max tier, and then they threw in ascended. So it really needs some adjustment again. Hopefully, with the normalization of the crit damage stat, they will be better able to address the downscaling issue.
One of our suggestions back in the last CDIs was that those should mean something / impact your game play.
Perhaps they have removed this in order to look into that suggestion. Perhaps revamp that system so that it does have meaning and impact. Sort of crossing my fingers…
I did, I did!

I’m kind of glad that ranks aren’t shown at the end of the match. I pvped on my husband’s account last night, something he’s never ever done, so it was a complete blank slate. I didn’t do too badly (won 3 out of 4, or maybe it was 3 out of 5. did’t play a heck of a lot of matches), but in the matches my team lost, people were….less than polite. It tends to kill the enjoyment just a tad…
shrug
Nothing wrong with key farming.
I mean really, is it any different than the people the repeatedly reroll a character and speed clear the cities for trans charges? Nope.
If that’s how they choose to spend their game time, that’s their choice. As long as Anet is ok with them playing that way (and they have said that it’s fine), then it’s nobody’s business except the player that’s doing it.
Its also not different than people who run CoF P1 or any other dungeons 10000 times, or people who run in a train or do world events or harvest whatever.
I really don’t understand why some people always think that what THEY do is sooo much better than what others do.
Its maybe simply the training people got over year with all those progressive raid stuff that they simply think they are sooo much better because they get better stuff.
So maybe if your weapon gets +1 damage after every Key Run people would suddenly start to think that Key Runs are the only reak content, because they give the best reward .. lol
Oh I know. Someone else had already used the dungeon comparison though, so I figured I’d just go with another gem store item farm (and those are hot commodities right now).
I don’t understand people in general, and I think I’ve simply given up trying. Too many seem to be under the delusion that everyone else must do it their way, or they are (somehow) wrong. shrug

+1 Sounds like it was fun
It’s a very nice addition to the game. I’m pleased now to get a new skin from a random drop and I’ve even restarted my personal story so I can look over the skins from the vigil, priory and whisper’s vendors. Plus rechecking all the heart vendors, just in case.
I’ve noticed that I’ve started paying closer attention to the items I get from the PS as well, Verifying that I have or don’t have a skin instead of just randomly selecting and moving on.
I’ve even opted to go back through and craft the various lower level sets for their skins. I have the mats, so hey, why not.
I’m holding off on Karma items though. I’m hoping they will make them salvageable, since (if I recall correctly) they aren’t currently.
shrug

Hi, so my friend and I are new to this game and we are both going to create Human characters to start with. If we want to team up a lot, should we pick the same personal story options upon character creation, or does it not matter?
The first 9 personal story missions (chapter 1 and chapter 2) will differ if you select how you were raised and your greatest regret differently. You can still do the missions together, but only the person with that mission quest will get xp (the other will get karma). The human story converges at the beginning of chapter 3 (10th quest in, forget what level).
The story will continue to by synced through the end of the game unless you choose different orders. Again, you can still play together, you’ll just have to go back and forth on the missions helping each other out if you choose different paths.
My husband and I tend to choose different paths intentionally, so we could experience more of the racial stories while needing fewer characters.
I find using the wiki to help manage some of the splits helpful, especially since in several instances you get a ‘mission a’ or ‘mission b’ option, and my husband takes one, while I take the other, so that we can see them both.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personal_story
Hope that helps.
The Temple of Balthazar gets done more on the mega servers than I’ve seen it on any server in ages. It’s much easier to start that event chain now and see it through to completion.
I have to concur with this.
Every time I pop into Straights, Balth is either open or in the process of being opened. I love it.
Edit: I’ll also note that I’m on AR where it was seemingly never, ever open before.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
I can agree with making Karma and Badge purchased armor salvageable again. Just remove from their salvage table ecto (and dark matter), so people don’t exploit it like before.
