Why does ArenaNet hate farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

For the millionth time, buying gems with gold still generates revune for ArenaNet, as all gems bought with gold were originally sold from player who bought gems with cash.

Except that’s not the case. The Exchange was stocked with a massive supply of gems and a little amount of gold at launch. While it’s true that most of the gold you get from selling gems was originally from players, the percentage of gems that a player gets that were added to the exchange by another player has been increasing as time goes on, it’s likely not even at 50% yet.

It most certainly isn’t “all”.

Why does it have to be stocked? Gems are not physical, they are virtual and can be created out of nothing. Anet just keeps a track of the supply and demand and adjusts the prices based on that. There is no pool of gems or anything. Just some number crunching.

Loot = Why We Play (Stop the Nerf)

If ArenaNet seriously just wanted to stop its players from getting loot, then why can I still log in > kill one enemy > get loot.

Hmmm.

I imagine you’re upset not that you can’t get loot, rather that your precious hamster wheel system of farming for loot was destroyed or damaged. QQ

Actually, if you kill a mob, there is a fair chance it wont drop anything at all, even a ruined item. I spent a good amount of time farming skelks in southsun in an attempt to get some tier 6 mats and I could kill several skelks and not see a drop of any sort.

I don’t doubt what you said about killing a mob and getting nothing for it. However I did just log in again, went straight to Southsun, and found some Reef skelk.

After 7 killed I got 1 Large Fang, 3 Dark Stained Claws, and 1 Salvageable Hide. Yeah I know its not a get rich quick situation here – but it is loot. Eventually it adds up.

Edit: Sorry, it was just one fang from the skelk kills, not two.

It’s because of DR, and I absolutely hate it.

In WoW, if I needed to farm something, and I found that you could get 1 from everything 3 or so kills, it just took 300 kills to get 100. In GW2, you may get 3 from the first 10, but the second 10 will give 1, and the next 90 will give maybe only 1.

DR is horrible.

The fact that one outlier method has been taken away from someone does not limit their choices that much. Oh they took away crafting as a way to get to 80. Well, guess what, it wasn’t intended to allow you to do that. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t tons of other alternatives. Just the outlier ones are being restricted.

You seem to have changed your mind in a month.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Playing-without-doing-Dungeons/first#post3879617

But you can make the same or more running the champ train and you’re not “stuck” in a dungeon. You can always try a couple and see if you like it. If you do, I suggest watching video first so you can at least know what to expect.

How do you make good money on a Champ train. Don’t they only give a few silver each? I guess the gear you get nets a bit more, or maybe I’m running the wrong train?

Salvage and sell my friend. If you do the Frostgorge Sound champ train, you can make average 7-8g per hour (sometimes little less, sometimes more). Personally, I salvage all except exotics worth 1g or more. you get lots of T6 mats, and with salvage, you’ll get lots of silk. You get lots of blues and greens as drops. You also get dropped silver plus whatever silver you get in the champ bags/boxes. If I do the champ train Saturday and Sunday morning for a few hours I will net about 50g.

Ahh cool. That’s where I’m going wrong then. I’m still leveling all Crafting so I always just deposit all to my collection where ever I go.

Thanks, I will do Frostgorge soon. I’ve been running the Queensdale one.

Ha ha. On my level 80 of course. I always level up the right way

But you shouldn’t have been running the train at all. According to some it was a toxic mindless zerg that has been the bane of every new player in the game. You should have been earning gold and mats by doing dungeons, exploring, WvW, and world events, that’s the right way. See how that works?

Fair enough. Did I say I was upset in any way they removed the train for me? In fact, I suggested they removed all Champions from low level zones and had them only in higher level zones. And I have actually moved on to World Bosses.

Champ trains should never have been a way to level up. Good riddance to the low level champion trains if that’s how people were using them.

Yes because people should level up their 3rd, 4th, 5th or whatever alt the way you think they should right? And out of curiosity how do you suggest people level alts? What way is acceptable to you?

Doing hearts, events, vistas, waypoints, skill challenges, etc. just like they’re supposed to. Or maybe PvP if they want.

Well I’m glad you feel you get to decide how people should play and how they should level. Did you happen to read the title of this thread?

How frequent are character slot sales?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

Yeah, these are two things I want to spend my gems on (well, in addition to infinite gathering tools). I’m looking for sales on character slots (not my current top priority) and bank slots (nearly full – so top priority), and of course the gathering tools.

Just keep watching. They’ll rotate through soon enough.

What’s the benefit of the infinite gathering tools? They look pretty expensive, and if you just bought in game tools wouldn’t it be cheaper? (Not sure if this is true or not)

Well, once you’ve bought infinite tools, you never need to buy another of that tool. Mostly for convenience. Those times where you a mining away and get the ‘no tool equipped’ message will never happen. I guess you’d have to mine (let’s take the mining tool as an example) thousands of ore to make it financially pay off (with the gem-gold conversion rate). They are account bound, so you can just pass them to whichever character you’re playing.

I enjoyed the QD train for 30-45 min in a day, the time I have to play anyway. it was good for doing some dailies and monthlies and good for leveling alts or getting money/loot. too.

“My way” is not to go around an explore the world. “My way” is to have a relaxing time in the game without too much thinking and still feeling I have some the progress and the QD train was just doing that for me and possibly many others.
Turning the Champs into Vets in starter zones, destroyed “my way” of enjoying the game.

I hope it is more clear now

In that case, you have nothing to worry about. Champs still drop champ loot bags (unfortunately). Its just the starter zones that cannot have champ trains anymore. Was there anything particular about QD that it HAD to be there?

I’m sure the farmers are figuring out the next best zone to have such trains and because they’ll need everybody’s help to make it easy enough to get rewards by just spamming ‘1’, they will certainly share their results .

That said, the game cannot be stagnant because you happened to enjoy something in particular. So like it or not, don’t be too fixated on any particular “way”.

Yes, there is running train in FGS, but there is one little problem in that map. It is level 80 map, and when you are leveling up your alts, it means you dont get any xp or karma or loot in there, because you can not do enough damage. So in that way QD train was good for new players, veteran players who level up their alts and could relax same time.

Most of the players who did QD train, they didn’t hit mindlessly 1 or do auto attack. They really used all their skills. It was best place to relax and test my builds with those champions. If I was doing support build I wanted to test it in some action. If I made Supporting Well Necro, I wanted to test in there in action, how it support for melees and other players. In that way I made best builds in this game and I didn’t need any dueling in this game. I find out in best way how build really works.

Now there is not good places to make these little testings anymore. When you go higher areas, you should have your build made up already or you are useless in there.

Champ trains should never have been a way to level up. Good riddance to the low level champion trains if that’s how people were using them.

I honestly don’t see how that’s better loot. From what I heard, their legendaries/artifact weapons is created from a rare raid drop which gives you a quest to complete, which sounds pretty much just like a precursor drop.

No one’s comparing loot in other games with this game. What we’re saying is, give us better loot, or there are other games out there that look good as games to play instead.

Loot = Why We Play (Stop the Nerf)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

I do not play for loot in any game ever. Actually, I HATE loot. With a burning passion. This genre’s frothing obsession with loot/gear, be it gear-grinding or gear-gated content or “optimizing” gear, is easily one of my least favourite aspects and endlessly annoys me when I’m just trying to enjoy myself without the constant reminder that my character is actually little more than an ambulatory armor stand and weapon rack. The onlys thing I care for in terms of gear or other loot are 1) aesthetics, 2) fun “toys” and 3) crafting for the enjoyment of creating something.

Just one point. The ‘Loot’ being talked about in this thread, is anything you get by playing that has been nerfed. This includes gear, mats, and gold.

That is right, I just don’t understand why people here can be so illogical. If nobody pays ANet any real money, how do you think they pay their staff? With virtual gold?

all the loot nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

I don’t think you are wrong.

I have a feeling that what we are seeing is a combination of milking the current playerbase and targeting a different market on another continent that has literally hundreds of millions of people.

The China market is HUGE. Even if this is just a cashgrab strategy, they can make bank and not care if the game itself died a quick death.

Ah yes. I am sure they would be willing to put 300+ people (and friends) out of a job for some swift dollars….

Well, I would assume that most of their best talent has left for a good reason….

And I agree with many of the posters in this thread. This game is quickly starting to look like another cash-grab P2W scenario. I suspect NCSoft wants to shelve GW2 to make way for their upcoming MMOs such as Wild Star (you know, the kind that requires everyone to pay for kitten monthly subscription fees no matter what.)

I give Anet 3-4 months tops for improvements, now that they’re really going to have to work for it if they want to wow their new Chinese players. If we continue to see more cash shop in exchange for more stealth drop nerfs and RNG, then I think it’s time to say goodbye to this game and hello to something else. And that new “something else” won’t be Wild Star if NCSoft’s business model is anything to go by.

Just one point. Wildstar does not require a subscription fee. You can grind gold in game and buy CREDD for 30 days game time, if you’re that kind of player.

They should have left either the Legendary Boar (On a timer people are used to, but it would get rid of the train itself), or Centaur Leader of the assault.

There is no concept of a Daily Heart in the game. But I am suggesting they create one. There are daily quests in other games at max level, and this would be comparable. I know that DEs are the repeatable high level content, but I really think that Daily Hearts would spice things up.

I don’t necessarily agree that stacking is an issue that needs fixing, but if it does, there are pretty simple solutions. Just have bosses deal a debuf that stacks for everyone within 5 yards or something. The debuf can be reduced damage, increased cast times, dealing direct damage or anything. If enough bosses did these, we’d soon spread out.

How should ArenaNet deliver future content?

Currently the vast majority of voters reject an expansion with costs. So people should enjoy LW like the majority seems to do

It’s 102 votes for the current Living Story model to 101 votes for paid boxed expansions. How do you get a vast majority rejecting said expansion???

You include the 70 who want a slightly less frequent LW.

172 to 101 is still not a ‘vast’ majority. A vast majority would be something like 220 – 50.

I like the idea of Gem Store mini-expansions. Especially if they are priced in Gems. Have it like a DLC in other games, with new maps and other stuff. I don’t know how it would work practically though, with some people buying it, and others not.
