A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

All the last patch/update of gw2 have made the game harder. Trains are gone (queensdale and old frostforge) and dungeons are getting harder (some of the old tactics dont work anymore). People are quitting the game because best itens are almost impossible to buy and the best ways to make gold are being destroyed by gw2. From my usual group of friends to create a party (about 13 people), only 3 of them keep playing everyday since the last update. Im getting frustraded too and i just dont get what is the point of this.

thanks.

People were crying to remove champ train in Queensdale and FG. And now they got their wish people are complaining why is it remove….just amazing.

Different people…..just amazing.

Paying for past content?

in Living World

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

Looking over the LS season 2 blurb I spotted this “Past episodes will be available for purchase for 200 gems”

Does this mean if we want to reply any LS content we need to pay for it in gems? Is it an unlock a chapter forever fee for every account or is it character bound? If we pay for a chapter can we team with people who haven’t?

Personally, not sure how I feel about this move. To me it seems to step over the ‘morality line’ and move GW2 to a payment model I don’t really like..

Hmm

If you log in during the release window of an episode (e.g. two weeks) you unlock the episode for your account. You can replay it as many times as you want for free. If you miss the release window and you want to play an episode that you didn’t unlock, you can purchase it.

It’s a lot like watching television in that you can watch (and record) an episode for free when it airs. If you miss it, you can buy the episode off iTunes later. Does that make sense?

Except you’re playing it, not purchasing it. You can watch it for free again using your DVR.

"buy gold with gems" appearing too so much?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

For those of you that don’t want to spend money on gems, you should be encouraging others to buy gold with gems. That way your gold to gem cost goes down. Anet advertising gems to gold conversions only helps you. The more people that buy gold with gems the less it costs you to convert gold to gems.

Yep. That’s me……

Hi,

I’m sitting about 50g now and want to buy some gems. But I refuse to buy them when I get less than 100 gems for each 10g. Last night it would just not get to that level. For my 50, it was 490, 497, 495… etc and never above 500.

So, get off your Duff and buy some gems with cash so that I get above 50 for my 50g.

Please.

they dont have to just buy gems, they have to buy gems and turn it into gold.
But why would they do that unless they are making a legendary? the bulk of new gear/items are in the cash shop

So tell anet to put more things in game, so people want to shortcut them and get gold.

Ahh, that’s right.

Then – Come on Guys, buy some gold with all those gems you have. Convert! Convert! You know you want to.

Ascended gear dilemma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

I just had a thought. I would probably care more about Ascended, and the relative stat increase, if there was something on armor that denoted it’s relative goodness. Think iLvL in WoW. What WoW does is to average the iLvL of all your gear, and give you an average iLvL. Then, you really want to increase your iLvL.

I think this should be implemented in GW2. An extra stat on armor that shows it’s overall worth. I could then use this to report how geared up my characters were in my blog too.

Only horizontal progression in this game – you are asking for vertical progression and that is something that A.Net said they would not do. It would turn the game into a forever gear grind which is not totally voluntary.

Armor already has a minimum level for a type then there are the colors of the armor White, Blue, Green Gold, Dark Gold, Red – I think that is fine now.

No, I’m not asking for Vertical progression. Legendary would have a Level, and that would be the max, period. Ascended would be just below it.

So, there are colors. But what’s my average color if I have 6 Dark Gold, and 6 Red?

Let’s say Ascended was 450 and Exotic was 420, then my average would be 435. Replacing the Exotics with Ascended would take it towards 450.

Gear score and other such ilk dont mean much. You’re perfectly able to run fractals in BLUE rarity gear if you’re an intelligent player. Running fractals with ascended gear is not possible if you’re a putz.

Not debating that at all. Just saying that I’m not motivated to get Ascended now, but might be if there was Gear Score. Might not be the same for others. Anyway, I’ll stop talking about it now, because we don’t want this thread locked for going off topic.

Any wonder why I’d almost never do SB, but I jump on Mark II if I get a chance?

I died when getting to Mark 2 and didn’t get rezzed and didn’t get loot. Hence the Risk

Ascended gear dilemma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

So, the general consensus seems to be that ascended stuff is optional. Nice if you can make it, and doesn’t matter if you can’t.

I have to say, this thread has been enlightening. I can’t remember when i saw someone doing dungeons with me trough LFG that didn’t have a legendary weapon or an ascended set. So i though, “hey, everyone has that, wtf, it’s mandatory”…

But if it really isn’t that big of a deal, then i’ll just make it my long term goal… I mean loooong term… There’s still a hell of a lot in the game that i didn’t do and are planning on doing.

I will craft it eventually but now i’m in no hurry to do so.

Thx for replying everyone!

Yep, take your time. I’m not even bothering because I don’t do any of the really high level content that requires it. I’m not even bothering with the Laurel Ascended, because I’d rather get gold with my Laurels.

I think living world rewards is fine. Many people are doing it, because it’s the only way to get tokens, and it’s only way to get the rewards from the vendor.

Is there any good tokens -> gold stuff to buy? Oh, I guess I should look on the wiki, but if you have first hand knowledge, that would be appreciated.

And AnAspieKitten, that could indeed be the issue. I got there, got on the event, and 45 minutes or so later we’d downed the last boss for a Bronze award and 6 bags. I haven’t been back since.

Skill Points

in Crafting

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

Promote bolts of jute to wool. 250 bolts jute 3g into 50-180 bolts of wool avg 5g per promotion. 1 skill point gives 10 philo stones = 5 promotions. So we have 15g into and 25g out, which atm translates into 10g per skill point.

During promoting it’s almost always significantly better to promote the REFINED version…..ie bolts, ingots, squares etc…

Gosh, I didn’t know anything about this. I would have tons of my own T1 mats and wouldn’t even need to get them off the TP. I’ve just been selling them, instead of promoting them. Thanks.

Dungeon Rewards might be a little too good.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

That aside, considering gems are purchasable which can be instantly converted to gold, the whole premise of “newly generated money” via dungeons being a bad thing is rendered completely moot. In half a minute I can spend $10.00 at the gemstore and convert that to ~70g.

Totally wrong .. the gold is not generated out of thin air, you just get the gold that some other people pay to buy gems, and even there a part of that gold is removed from the economy.

You have it backwards.

Beldin is most likely 100% correct (I caveat as we don’t know the full coding/operation of the system but can infer it based on ArenaNet explanations and the historical movement of the exchange rate). All gem to gold conversions utilize gold that was created by players in the past and traded in for gems in the past. The only thing that is created out of thin air as part of the transaction is gems (when real money is used to acquire them). Once you have gems, you can trade them for a portion of the pool of gold that other players had previously traded for gems.

I was pretty sure I saw the BLTC forum frequenters say that the gems being bought for gold were gems provided by the people who converted gems to gold, and that the more people who use RL money for gold the lower the gold to gem rate becomes.

I do not know for sure but I did think they did.

All gold is created by the players when they do things that reward gold.
All gems are created by ArenaNet when players buy them with cash.
All gold to gem conversions take existing gold out of the player’s bank and put it on the exchange and remove some number of gems from the exchange and add them to the player’s bank.
All gem to gold conversions take existing gems out of the player’s bank and put them on the exchange and remove some number of gold from the exchange and add it to the player’s bank.

I believe that is what Beldin was referring to. Using your credit card does not create any coins. It creates gems which can be traded for coins.

See if your 2 top points are true, no one could initiate the gem to gold gold to gem first.

That is correct. ArenaNet seeded the exchange with some gold and gems back at launch. Since then it’s been run by the rules above.

no they didnt.
At some point they revealed that the gem to gold system is ruled by an algorithm that determines the value based on some values, and that they can alter those values if they feel like it.
its not a fort knox system its an equation

the system will never no matter what run out of gems. the system will never no matter what run out of gold. It will create it as it sees fit, and try to use the equations for the value to make the output at acceptable levels.

By seeding the exchange, he simply means initializing 2 variables to be greater than 0 for that algorithm. You’re both in agreement.

As to your second part. You don’t know that.

It could be that as the virtual supply of Gems get’s to be almost 0, the price would tend to infinity.

Risk/Effort vs Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

Please define risk/effort. Can we boil that completely down into “time”?

Well, I equate effort with time.

For Risk, it’s either the risk of getting nothing from a task, or getting less than the optimal rewards. Take some of the hard World Bosses, for example. They would have high risk, because you might not actually be able to complete them.

Risk/Effort vs Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lankybrit.4598

Lankybrit.4598

Hi,

How would you rank different areas of the game.

World Bosses
Champion Trains
Dugneons
Queens Pavilion

World Bosses – Some are easier than others, but these give pretty good rewards. Overall a pretty good return on risk/effort.

Champion Trains – Very easy, but the rewards aren’t that great. A reasonable return on risk/effort.

Dungeons – Probably the best rewards, but at only one reward per path per day. A pretty good return on risk/effort.

Queen’s Pavilion – Reasonable rewards, but pretty difficult and requiring lots of effort. Not a very good return on risk/effort.

So, I would rank World Bosses #1, then Dungeons, Champions, and finally Queen’s Pavilion.

I think that when they release LW content, they should make sure that the content is at least in the middle wrt risk/effort vs rewards.

What do you think?
