Edit: From my point of view, gold is more like a side product playing, rather than something to farm for. So if you feel like waiting a bit and give me some time, sure. Overall I’ve probably been giving a lot more than just 2k gold anyway.

This point of view makes sense to me, because when I was a college student playing the game it’s how I felt about gold. And honestly I’m planning on waiting (my birthday is a good 6 months away) so I wasn’t planning on starting the shuffling gems away until about October.

Anyway, I guess I don’t think dungeon gear should cost gold because that would screw over new players who need endgame gear and don’t have enough gold to afford gear off the TP or enough karma.

I don’t know if this is positive or negative, but let me explain.

Let’s say you are a salaried employee working 40-60 hours per week at a company you like that is advancing your career. You make more than you spend, but don’t get a whole lot of game time. You obviously are not going to take time off from work to farm for a legendary that you want, because that would negatively impact your career and possibly your family. Instead of doing this, you shuffle away $100 worth of gems for 5 paychecks, (a pretty small percentage of your overall paycheck) so that you can convert to gold and buy, say, 1 legendary.

The legendaries I have made took me approximately 1 month each of fairly serious play to farm for. But let’s say it takes 35 hours to farm a legendary from start to finish. My time is much better off at work, being paid much more than 500$ for 35 hours, to get that legendary. I’d rather farm “gold” IRL than in game. in other words.

I understand why you don’t like it and I feel the same way about a lot of things on here. When it comes to equipment there’s not much you’re able to do to make yourself stand out besides getting legendary skins… which are also pretty unimpressive considering the wardrobe system and the fact that people are capable of buying gems with real life money and converting it to gold (lol, makes me cringe at the idea of people doing this but it does happen).

This makes me smile. I think a person who can afford to spend 500 bucks on some pixels is more badkitty than cringe worthy. They’re all like, F you, do my work for me you college student and I’ll pay for your pixels to be my pixels.

On my birthday this coming December I will be doing just this for minstrel because whatever, I’m awesome!

They don’t count toward the limit. They say they do but they don’t. The only time your inbox fills is if there are 100 PMs from various users. I’ve had 125 mails in my inbox and it wasn’t filled until 100 of those were from players.

As I said, the problem is not dps race or that berserk is most efficient. It’s gearcheck and class segregation.

There is nothing wrong, toxic or elitist about being able to use the LFG tool to group with like minded/geared players.

Here is what puzzles me : elitism and stupidity is found everywhere. Yet, if one examinates the lfg window, most of the toxic players gravitate toward arah. Of course one should correct with the exposition time find a good sample etc… If everything was, fine, toxicity should be evenly spread. That is not the case.

Long story short, I believe toxicity is concentrated around very few places in the game (endgame dungeons). That leads me to think there is a problem here.

The thing about Arah is that if you get a poor group and you aren’t prepared for how bad It will be, the 3 to 4 hours running a single path is absolutely soul crushing. I’ve encountered this before, but now I only run it with Maha (Colesy) Dub, and other forum regulars. Pugging it means… I’m going to be on so long my hubby will get mad. So I don’t.

Point is…. if you have a group you are confident with (because of gear, or other things), you don’t have that worry that “this run is going to take me ALL night”. And that’s really only true for arah.

I got 300 eyes at 1,5g lately though :/ I call it reasonable when looking at their drop rate. And Immobulus isn’t a random exotic. It is an expensive weapon, that very few people have !

You’re right, the speed of a dungoen run is not the problem. The problem is: “If you don’t have 5k AP and full berserker gear, you can’t PUG for arah”.

This is what drives some people (including me) mad.

The fundamental issue is that if I switch from zerker to valkyrie armour, the completion time increases from 30 minutes to 1hour and a half because you can’t corner stack anymore. The group is forced to do the dungeon the “classic” way which is way slower.

Thus the toxic gearcheck.

I don’t gear check or have AP requirements. So I do what I can. My requirements include communication and fashionable characters. Also most of us here who are being insulted and accused of doing these things are coordinators and mentors of one of the coolest teaching initiative for gw2 pve I’ve seen. We are not the ones you’re mad at. It’s not the berserker gear. It’s not the meta builds. It’s the lfg community that isn’t even present on this forum.

PVE is not competitive unless you are in an elite team striving for world records. You can go in and do the dungeon in non zerk gear using non meta builds, get the rewards and move on.

People seem to be upset that their facetanks are able to do the content but not do it as quickly as full glass cannon players. Which is rather amusing really.

Rather than expanding the need or even practicality of different build/gear structures

If time is taken to make changes
The changes should be supporting a more diverse game dynamic

Why it is not ok? Toughness and Vitality have a role. They are learning gear in PvE. Why everything must be good at high level end game? Look at it like F1 racing. They put everything in the speed. In F1 the perfect engine would broke 1sec after the car pass the finish line. Why? because tough engine that last longer are bigger and have more material on them. Thicker side, thicker engine part to be more resistant. But the weight of a more resistant engine will cost you speed and the victory.

Same thing here. In the high level end game, you want to have as less personal survivability as possible, because that cost you some dps. Personnal surviablity only profit you and only you. Its not like the support i talked about that profit all the party and improve the overall capability of the group. That’s why survivability is rarely included in meta, but support is. And I think its a good, no great thing.

Also, if you can come up with a good way to make toughness and vitality the best way to go in a game. Tell me, i never found one.

Since you touch a racing game, let me answer you with another racing game example:

If Mario Kart is designed the same way GW2, everyone would be using Bowser and Kong cause they were the fastests (with bad driving and acceleration, but still the fastests). All other characters would just be learning characters but once you knew how to play, the races would be just lots of Bowsers and Kongs in very straight courses.

Since the guys designing Mario Kart knew better than ANet team, they made a game where even slower characters had their advantages because the courses were also designed in such way.

Currently our dungeons have no “curves” so we can all play Bowser and think its fine.

Except to win and get the rewards in gw2 you don’t have to beat the fastest group. Unless your ideal reward is beating the world records. Which it obviously isn’t.

The PURPOSE for BALANCING is to make sure there ISN’T A META.

Make everything as efficient as everything else and be done with it.

Lilith, even though in the end, everything resolves in killing and surviving; it doesn’t mean that all we can do is damage and tank. Cleric is out of the question because it empathize healing and healer is not a supported role in GW2. But when we could totally have another set which increases the effectiveness of our boons (not the duration), making might grant more power or fury more crit. Having such a stat would turn a player into a support role who can at the same time increase Zerk effectiveness. Defiant could be change, instead of having a stack value, it could have a cumulative value (like an HP bar) and having a stat that increases CC effectiveness to reduce that defiant faster or even bypass it in some cases. This would make players specialized in control very effective in such task.

These are just 2 examples I imagine could help having support and control as viable roles without even touching zerk. Of course, the dungeon design has to go along side by side. The dungeons we have today are kinda of a joke.

I don’t think you’re understanding that in truly efficient runs, control and support are major factors in that efficiency. The problem is we’ve done each path a million times. We know which attacks will kill us and which won’t. We have tactics created over the course of 1.5 years that have grown to where we are today. This Involves clever use of support conditions, boons, crowd control and controlling defiant. It takes time to get there. We have had the time. If we were still soldier gearing, Cleric healing for 50HP PER tick, ranging bosses our gameplay would not be better. It would not have evolved at all and we would be stagnant.

No. It’s not all about damage, you know. If they added encounters where heal, defense and condi are equally necessary as damage instead of the stack in corner and dps ‘meta’, it would mean going full-out damage would be harder and not easier than going tanky.

That way DPS/condi/heal/tank is balanced out.

Do you remember 1.5 years ago when it was all balanced and then everyone played for a year, learned the encounters, did them a million times, and no longer needed AC soldier gear or clerics? Because I remember. What you’re asking for is for us to be back in that position. There is nothing inherently wrong with dungeons. What is wrong is that there aren’t any new ones. Apart from aetherpath. But we all know how that worked out.

I’m not sure. My guess is that these were supposed to be pretty rare items only for people who worked hard to get them (the 250 heirlooms were not a walk in the park by any stretch). But I don’t know. Could have been overlooked.

But I worked pretty hard to get the Mini Liadri and she came back this time around. I also had to do 25 Secret of the Southsun achievements over 2 weeks to get the Sclerite backpack, now people just toss in 1600 festival tokens to a vendor.

I don’t like it when Anet make a call which unique skins should return for everyone to get and which should remain unavailable. They’re all unique skins and to players some skins will be more unique than others, but Anet just cut through and said, “nah, this lot of LS1 skins aren’t unique enough, here, have them for a few festival tokens”.

I don’t disagree, nor do I think that you didn’t work hard for the mini Liadri. But when Liadri was introduced they said in the stream that it was a once a year thing, intended for people to fail for the first year and then get it the next. So it was always going to come back. The Selfless/Thoughtless potions should have been added this FotFW, but they weren’t, and I was just giving my thoughts on why that was, (either because they meant it to be rare and such or they just overlooked it and forgot)
