OP, another thing you might consider is making your own price. When I requested for a commission I offered what I could pay, and then people saw that and decided if they wanted to do it. For me, this was great because they were artists that hadn’t posted here before, and I was very excited when I saw their final products! (BTW I asked for relatively small things, but I offered gem store items as payment, and it seemed to work well.)

If anything these patches discourage halfway builds. So if you’re not quite a tank or not quite dps, you’re kittying F’ed. Sort of. Not really. Because Spider queen is ez pz. Regardless.

And Ascalon? Really? That kitty is still easy as heck. I nearly had an aneurysm when someone called it “The new dredge” after the patch and I did it and it was…. not changed except for some aoe you move out of. Come on bro.

Sadly, my warrior and my engi can never partake. We need a rainbow rifle legendary.

For engis I don’t think it’s really a reputation thing (rangers, yes) but a “what pugs perceive as useful” thing. They often don’t understand combo fields ans blasts and the like so they see an engi and have no idea what it does. Also from what I understand, while engi can do almost anything and fulfill many roles in a group it does not do as well as other classes, so people would just rather the thief for stealth, ele or warrior for might… but vulnerability is all engis so it’s possible they don’t care much about that. Not sure.

Most engi pugs I meet are very good tbh. The class attracts a certain type of player I really appreciate in my runs.

I can see why you are not satisfied with your current setup. it isn’t terrible, but it is lacking something.

The cabalist is definitely a no-go. Maybe the Orr karma coat? might go well with the skirt. but I don’t really like the skirt tbh (unless it’s on my asura!)

Also, if Honor of the waves chest doesn’t give you that weird belly shirt thing, it might look okay. All in all, that skirt is tough to match. Perhaps Trickster, maybe. Hm.

Found something that bothered me yesterday. I had a student, or what I thought was a student, ask me to come help in p4 with Lyssa. I asked if he was stuck in a pug, but he told me he was trying to “get good” and solo it. I thought to myself that why not, I haven’t been playing for a little over a week, why not jump back in and help someone get better. Took a couple tries, but I finally pulled my head out of my rear and finished her off. He then said something to the effect of “if we finish, we might as well sell.”

I don’t know why, but this really rubbed me the wrong way. The guy can’t solo lupi (at least that I’ve seen) and he wants to duo p4 to sell. I gave him some tips on Lupi, but after a while I left.

Was I wrong to do this? I don’t like duoing to sell w/ people I don’t know well, and it made me feel like I was being used for my ability to profit. Some advice from my dungeon friends would be appreciated.

While I agree that it’s disproportionately better than other runes, I don’t think it needs a nerf. Instead, maybe bringing other runes up should be the way to go. The issue here is that this rune is just so high above the others (and I think, not craftable) so prices are insane. If you bring other dps runes up (rune of the ranger, scholar, etc) the rune prices should stabilize and you might even introduce a new (and fun) way to vary builds.

When I used to play more (my 12 hour per day dungeon running times) I hated seeing other ele pugs. They were exactly that type. Not very good but so proud of themselves for “mastering” an attunement dance on staff. It was incredibly frustrating. However I also hated it when they were better than me. Nowadays…. if I see pug eles I typically run. I run faster from pug eles than I do from pug rangers.

In other MMO’s, builds and the gear sets exclusive to those builds are called the same thing. There’s tank gear, healing gear and DPS gear. There may be some variations in some games, like dodge tank gear, or physical/spell DPS gear. Because they’re used to thinking this way, people continue to think this way. ANet enabled this perception’s migration to GW2 with their selling point of a GW2 “replacement trinity.”

Lilith’s right. There is a tremendous amount of leeway in GW2 with regard to “gear as you like.” Most suggestions to “fix” the non-problem of glass gear amount to remove gear choices for everyone, not just glass wearers. Some proposals, like the OP’s, consist of contrived mechanics that “target” a specific gear choice. These proposals are just bad design. Improved encounter mechanics are one thing, but, “Let’s punish a specific gear choice” would not be an improved mechanic. It would be a sop to people who cannot let go of the old paradigms.

I recommend seeking out people from less intense dungeon guilds (LoD comes to mind for me, Colesy mentioned REN) and see if any of their veteran members can join you. These smaller guilds probably won’t be able to get “the group” together. But they might have a few people who can add to your group.

After much discussion with and about the Beserker community, I have discovered that it’s not the gear/build that is the issue. The reason why Beserker is the meta, and stacking and DPS is the prefered tactic for dungeons is simply because the Boss fight mechanics are flawed. Stacking in a corner prevents most bosses from doing a massive AoE attack, which means it can be taken down quicker and easier. The Spider Queen was a good example of this. Now she will use her AoE regardless of stack and requiring different tactics. Also the quicker Bosses can be taken down, means that most will not have the opportunity to use their party wiping attacks. The fix to this, and to make more builds “viable” (they already are btw, not OPTIMAL but VIABLE), they need to fix the mechanics. Instead of nerfing beserkers, or buffing other builds, why not make the boss do a massive party wipe AoE attack where players are stacked? Or have the Boss attack more frequently? With more attacks coming sooner, Beserkers will break like the glass they are as they can only dodge so much. Just some ideas.

Again, the reason Beserker became the meta, was because of broken boss mechanics, thus rendering anything else useless, Nerfing it, or buffing other builds, or even the boss won’t change it. The mechanics need to be fixed to achieve any kind of balance in PvE.

Stop spouting “stacking prevents boss attacks.” Stop stop stop. Kholer uses his most powerful AoE attacks. Alpha uses his most powerful AoE attacks. Lupi uses his most powerful AoE attacks. Destroyer of Worlds, dredge bombers, Tezza, Frost (except on the stupid pug hill), Howling King, Ghost Eater, Leurant, Alphard, whatever— just about every boss of worth is able to use their most powerful attacks when you stack (I think Colossus Rhomblus in the stupid pug stacking spot in ACp3 is the only one that doesn’t anymore).

Stacking lets you DPS faster, which means you are less vulnerable to these attacks. But the attacks themselves happen! They are just prevented by things like dodges, evades, and blocks.

I stand corrected about stacking. However I stand by my main point of broken mechanics that allow for a high DPS meta (i.e. Beserker) to be the only (percieved) build that works. Passive defense (vitality, toughness, etc.) is pointless as the way current boss mechanics work allow for dodging and other forms of active damage mitigation to be much more effective. Again, instead of buffing the bosses, buffing other builds, or nerfing beserker, a fix to the mechanics (stacking or otherwise) to make passive defense more useful I feel would make other builds much more viable without casting aside any paticular build.

I think you need to remember that defensive stats are only useless when you know the mechanics and understand when to dodge. There is literally no good purpose for these stats to be useful when you play flawlessly.

if you want to argue this for fiery rush I will gladly take that as a good argument. But as it stands… the game cannot get better at being play how you want.
