As for OP, that’s awful. Those folks should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately there’s not much to be done… but as usual the best thing you can do to prevent these sort of mishaps is open the dungeon yourself. Perhaps your “anyone welcome” parties would live up to their description where the others have failed.

A few questions: which bow is underneath the skin (like, is it a particular dungeon bow for the stats or another bow that might have some particle effects?

Pardon my french but I’m so kittening tired of this bullkitten. It’s like racism and people are just being ignorant pricks to the Ranger profession. I understand completely that we’re lacking in DPS and that if you’re joining a PUG group you should do as they’ve asked in their description. I’m not the kind of person to join a group that specifically says “no Rangers” or something of the like, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not incredibly irritating. There are plenty of good Rangers out there and although yes, there are also plenty of bad ones, I’m so tired of the ignorance I could strangle someone. Ranger is my favorite profession and the one which I have the most fun on, but because of the community, I was forced to make a Warrior, which I’m not nearly as competent with, so that I could run dungeons without being interviewed for 20 minutes or being kicked on sight.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’d rather someone play the profession they’re comfortable with than one they’re being forced to play. Because I can drop a banner and swing my sword but I’m sure there are better ways to improve my DPS as a Warrior that I don’t give a kitten to learn because I’d rather be on my Ranger.
A foul attitude maybe but a beast created by the community not one born of natural cause.

And for the record, I often make my own groups to avoid this kind of kitten since it’s so prevalent in the LFG.

I don’t care who joins my parties really but I rarely get more than one “bad class” although one time I got the trifecta, they all have some benefits as long as they know what they’re doing. I mean I had a necromancer carry my whole party once. It happens!

I don’t like that there are some classes no one will accept but I do understand it will always be apart of optimization. This said, I think it is more often than not I can get into a party with my ranger, ping my sword and frost spirit, and that’s all they need to know.

I have recently been paying more attention to this and I found (at least in my pugs) that Asura players tend to be more prone to “weird behaviour” in dungeons. Like actually using the chat, greeting people and all sorts of strange stuff like socializing more.

I’m fairly certain this is a individual experience on my behalf, but as I said at least in my pugs, it appears to be the case.

regardless of whether people feel this fight is better now or not, it is a fact that this was an unintended change. I know there are many out there who want a challenge (me included) but this boss shouldn’t have been that fight. Instead, anet should just make another unforgiving boss somewhere else (maybe dry top dungeon?).

This fight with a uncoordinated pug group is a nightmare.

I don’t actually think it was unintended. They even put the change into the patch notes. They don’t do that for unintended changes.

I’m going to take a stab at being civil unlike you, and say it is possible that with lag or a poor internet connection it might look like an instant shot. That’s a possibility but for me, with an excellent internet connection on both my EU and NA accounts the time between the point and the shot is literally 2 seconds.

You count fast, unfortunately seconds are a universal standard so even if you count really fast instant (for the sake of practicality) is still instant and not 2 seconds.

With that said, they might as well remove agony as a mechanic because having a mechanic like AR is pointless when the bosses are so OP all of her attacks are one shots. No class has that many dodges and blocks and invulnerability.

Well to be fair you can’t dodge it. But blocking, going invuln, reflecting, or destroying projectile works like a charm! Well reflecting protects you anyway

Here’s an interesting tidbit of purely anecdotal evidence:

My main account gets nothing for drops. I play this account every day for a little bit. Kill at least one mob. I don’t get much of anything. I log into my alternate account once a week. I don’t always kill things. But when I do I generally get more shines than I do in the fraction of time I play compared to my main. I got an exotic named scepter I’ve never seen before from a random mob yesterday. From a champion bag from a champ in the harpy fractal, a monsoon. The week before that I had the scepter of the high born and a moonshank drop within an hour or so. From champ bags.

I don’t open exotics in champ bags on my main. I’m convinced there’s something fishy.

Now my main account isn’t cursed or anything. I’ve had a fair share of forged precursors and great dye luck. But I think when it comes to mob loot and champ loot, there’s some factor saying “has this player played for a while? Do we want to give them incentive to keep playing?” That sort of thing.

I’m pretty sure you can buy wintersday gifts to try to get the dwayna one but I’d recommend just buying that one. Lyssa will probably come back next gambit but it will likely go up in price until it reached a plateau.

Thank you guys for your insight on the matter, so correct me if I’m wrong valkyrie/knight is the right set to learn a dungeon, berserker is the right set after you mastered it and/or if you are doing dungeons in an organized berserker group.
Is there much difference between the two sets in terms of damage ? I don’t want to end up slowing down my team but starting with berserker right off the bat is a bit intimidating lol.

My advise, go full zerk from the start. Valk and Knight gear have their trade off besides damage.

IMHO, Valk will not increase survivality unless you are playing a class that gets high benefits from vitality (warrior, necro, ranger) and Knight will only “increase your aggro” (considering high toughness is one of the aggro gens in this game, like proximity or wearing a shield) if the rest is low on toughness meaning you will be hit more by autoattacks. Its relative to the class, play style, build… I think you will save gold and time if you learn to use zerk the hard way (its not that different in terms of survivality with valk or knight)

Anyway like others have mentioned jumping in full berserker is fine too! I was not able to do it on my ele when I first began dungeon running, however this was my first game really and I didn’t have all that much experience with the combat. It just depends on where you’re at and what you feel comfortable in. I think with the amount of experience you have with the game (4 80s) you’re probably fine to jump in as a berserker. But the option of knights and valkyrie is fine to start off with if you feel it’s a better start (also if you have the gear already you aren’t wasting anything by using it). If you were thinking about buying the Knights and valk gear in order to try it, I’d say just get berserkers rather than wasting gold on training wheel gear.

There’s just gotta be a distinction between someone using a gear to learn the encounter and a person refusing to learn the encounter by using gear that makes his mistakes not matter. I’d take a noob in Valk gear any day so long as they are using it to learn the encounters in an active manner. So they see they missed a dodge and learn from that mistake without going down and harming the team.

The most optimal is full berserker with the meta builds on each of those classes (apart from a couple classes who sprinkle in assassin’s gear, this is typically the case).

If you need more cushion for sort of “training wheels” (meaning that in the best possible way) knights and valkyries armor with berserker trinkets is a good way to go, I’d say.

I think the fact that her pistol shot cannot be evaded (and require block/reflect) is utter BS, and should be looked into. I really cannot think of any other attacks in PvE where evade does not work.

CytoSlide – yeah, I hear you. With this new change, I think builds will just need to be re-evaluated though – more towards utility instead of dps.

- Elementalist: Focus Air 4 can cancel her shot, Focus Earth 5 can tank the hit, and Earth 4 can (probably) reflect?
- Warrior: Mace 2, Sword 5, and Shield 5 all can block her shots. These can even be traited for reflects, making the warrior a better dedicated pistol shot blocker/reflector than Mesmers!
- Guardian: Aegis, Wall of Reflection, Shield 5, Focus 5
- Mesmer: Focus 4, 5 (traited), Sword 4, Scepter 2, Feedback
- Thief: Smokescreen, Dagger Storm…
- Ranger: Axe 5 for reflect, GS 4 for block
- Necromancer: Death Shroud? =\

So…most classes do have a few ways to deal with this new change – but it won’t be easy, and it will take skills and coordination to get it right. But hey, if PUG Arah can melee Lupi and stack reflects now, then I have faith in the FotM 50 community too.

Your best bet for ele is earth shield 2 block and the occasional 5 invuln. These are very reliable. I struggled to see her tell when she was very far away sometimes and horrik appeared to want to blast me with his cannon fairly often.

Also, as I experienced last night, having a fabulous mesmer also helps. ^^ Yay sandy!

Important stealth change: (or I missed it in the patch notes? Entirely possible!) It now tells you what you are going to pick up. Hooray! No more banners when I mean ice bow!

I don’t know how they did the scaling but I did notice a slight increase in damage even on the 11. If I missed the block, her conditions totally annihilated my eles health pool before I could cleansing fire. I went down every time despite dodging out of her attack and curing the conditions. I don’t recall it hitting that hard before, though it always hit hard, it definitely seemed to deal more damage and be far less forgiving to mistakes.
