Story Arah Way to Easy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LinkR.6190

It kind of felt like the big bad undead dragon went down a little easy myself. An easy story mode is fine and casuals shouldn’t be barred from getting a sense of closure with the storyline, but ultimately Zhaitan seemed something of a pushover. He didn’t come off as some ungoddly force of nature that man was never meant to even dream of tackling with. Not only that, but I swear to god he looks smaller then he should have been. I mean Jormag’s tooth was probably 80% his size!

At least with WoW, and yes I am going there, in the Dragon Soul raid we brought a powerful artifact through time itself to fire a falcon punch through Deathwing’s kittening soul (which ultimately only served to kitten him off), just to get him on an even footing to stand some sort of chance against him in melee combat. With Zhaitan… he just sort of stood there most the time. We might have rammed him a couple times, I couldn’t really tell due to the sheer chaos because of all the blasted minions. It was difficult to feel invested for me. I might need to revisit the story again. Maybe I missed a detail that made it more epic then I hadn’t noticed.

What might have made more of an impact on the final confrontation is if we got to know more about that super powerful ship of death we ultimately took him out on. I mean it seemed to come out of freaking nowhere. Did we work to build it? How long have we had it? Why haven’t we used it before if we did have it? Why is one mega air ship able to tackle a Dragon made of death and come out fairly unscathed?

Who knows.. maybe if Anet gave the Dragons some form of motivation. It doesn’t need to twirl its mustache at us or anything, but if we perhaps somehow got inside its head to understand its motivations a little better.. what it had planned for us in the long run.. I might have felt more invested to stop it.

Theifs actually got nerferd instead of buffed you should be happy about that.

id actually rather have my class (the engineer) be buffed than any class be nerfed.

They did get buffed. Kits now use a damage formula that registers as if it is hitting with the top quality weapon attainable for your current level. Not game changing nor something that reealy needed to be fixed, but a buff is a buff. I was really hoping for grenade auto attack personally. It’s a pretty good kit to use, but I refuse to spam 1 to the point where my finger breaks off.

Beware of LF1M

It’s generally wise to at least be a little wary about things like this. Especially notorious explore paths that are often sold to the public after beating a particularly tough boss… However, I can also safely say that I have done plenty of LF1M and have yet to be kicked.

Way to use an instant negative mindset.

I play with my family at times. There is only four of us. We can do some dungeons with just the four of us, but sometimes we like to have that one extra. So we always advertise for LF1M for anyone that wishes to join us.

We are not mean or rude or troll anyone. We are a very friendly bunch, we just like to invite someone to fill that extra slot and maybe make a new friend in the process.

Don’t think everyone is out to get you just cause they are looking for one more.

How well does that 4 man work for you guys? Must be rough with the latest anti zerg patch. If you all need a 5th, I’m generally always available! I play pretty casually myself going to college and all… Don’t have any friends that play either. Love the game, but man can it get lonely..

Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.

The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.

Will we be at any risk of missing out on any of the world events hitting the server around that time if we are unable to attend it when it starts? I won’t be getting home from my classes till like 5 Pacific Time.

Freaking LOVE this game! Been playing since the first beta weekend. I played it a ton when it finally came out and quite honestly, I burnt myself out after hitting 80 for about a month. However, once I got back in at Nov and playing it at a slower smell the roses type play style, I have had fun logging on every day I do. Playing never feels like a chore, although admitidly, the daily and monthly have sometimes bugged me because I felt the slight nagging feeling of obligation, but it is still nice to do them to earn a little more scratch.

Because ADD people think the only new content that are worth playing in MMOs is obscene grinds for +1 gear so you can fight the new plus +1 monsters.

Somehow to them that +1 makes it new and interesting.

There is nothing wrong with Anet wanting to provide something for everyone. Give people a carrot if they really want it. The problem with GW2 at launch (and this is just a theory of mine) is that they wanted to ween players off the treadmill in order to provide a more unique experience. The only problem is that their method of “weening” was going cold turkey. It was a shock to the system for a lot of MMO veterans and honestly I can’t blame them. You can’t expect a rat in a lab to respond positively to new circumstances without any kind of indoctrination. Thankfully, I think people are for the most part getting over their old convictions. At least, the ones that were willing to put up with it a little longer instead of just jumping back to WoW’s more “fulfilling” gameplay. (not bashing WoW, I just feel it kind of manipulates you into playing for the sake of playing and not because you are having fun)

The randomness of engineers never seemed too bad to be tbh. Although I agree the uncertainty is annoying, for the most part each random affect engs get provides SOME use. The thieves trait will 3/4th of the time provide no help at all unless you really branch out with your skill types. Don’t get me wrong though, I am not defending the engineers concept. They do need improvement. Probably more then any other class at the moment. They require both more skill to out perform their short comings AND the class acts like a freaking slot machine. To this day I still wonder why a kit justifies the loss of a weapon swap when the kits are freaking equipped as skills! Elementalists don’t need to sacrifice any slots to have all their elements available. Why not just make the kits your F keys?

Another UI improvement sorely needed to be sure. On that same note, jewelry as a whole needs to be better defined. It is a kittening nightmare searching for a particular type of jewelry over the trader when they are all classified under as ..uhg what as it.. trinket? If there is an easier way to separate them, I am all ears. Also, what’s the deal with not having a “back” option for searching back items?

Disparity between Profession traits

LinkR.6190

I think I saw some worse traits in the Thief line, but it is debatable for sure. I particularly like the “improved death” trait thieves have with the 50% damage while downed. The irony in it is that it is actually pretty friggin good out in the open world. Yet one can’t shake the idea that traits are supposed to keep you out of a downed state for as long as possible.

There is another one in the power tree that resets a randomly picked category of skills when you.. steal I think? I dunno, it just seems like the random nature of it makes it incredibly undesirable.

It really isn’t that bad, yet. Only the best of the best stuff is a bit out of reach. However, the necessities are well within reach with a little effort. The biggest problem right now though is that I fear with the combined server economy, it makes price fixing a lot easier to manipulate given its done by a group that is organized enough. At the moment it seems like the gold farmers have the legendaries market well under their control. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t also have the precursors under their domain as well.

It’s like the Illuminati, but much more lame. Also, they apparently “LOVE YOU”.

I would personally would like to see it just removed as a stat option for gear/food and simply left as a guild perk and premium feature (boosters) with perhaps a loot drop adjustment to accommodate the overall less MF OR a buff to the booster. It’s difficult to justify the price of the booster as is really.

or at least give the rest of the party a chance to benefit from the other players MF. With the rarity of items already, it hardly seems game breaking to stack the parties MF additively, or at least multiplicative. Give a group of well organized friends the option to stack MF with the whole group if they really want to stack the risk:reward ratio.

edit: also, I would like to point out that stacking healing and playing a class that only uses self heals is still a lot more helpful to the group considering you are increasing your longevity. Players constantly stopping to save and soon revive (because of the change to WP spam in dungeons) can be incredibly counterproductive.

Ignore him. A few players are a little kitten they allowed themselves to burn out on the content WAY faster then it was intended. There is a ton of stuff to do. Just don’t allow yourself to burn out and you will be fine. Gotta keep in mind the game has no monthly fee. It isn’t designed to entertain everyone for the rest of their waking lives.

P.S. Welcome to the game! Feel free to ask here or in game any questions you might have! I’ll gladly answer anything you might be wondering about. Just use that name you see over there when entering a tell, LinkR.6190

Also, be sure to take a visit to gw2lfg at some point! It’s a fantastic grouping board that helps people find others across servers to tackle dungeons together! Yes you can do dungeons cross-server. The earliest is Ascalonian Catacombs which is at level 30. Good luck!
There is also a dedicated wiki you can check out for more information, or you can just type /wiki in game.

I still don’t understand why you insist dungeons are in such a desolate state. I do a few nearly every day and get into groups within minutes of deciding I would like to do one. Use the website. It is your friend! You seem to be under the delusion that the game is made up of a single wave of people. The people that started playing when the game came out and that is it. New people are joining every single day. Across all of the US you have people looking to do these dungeons. You only need a measly 4 people to fill those slots out of all of the freaking American servers! That’s a pool of hundreds of thousands of people! Just because some people no longer need the sets doesn’t mean you wont find others that do! Use the cross server functionality! That’s what it’s there for!

Playing with People on Other Worlds

in Players Helping Players

LinkR.6190

As far as my understanding goes on the matter from playing with other people through fractals. As Donari said, “you can join a party with people on other worlds, then all get in the zone containing the dungeon. Once one of you enters, everyone in the party will get inside regardless of server.” As for say grouping up to do outside stuff like hearts or jumping puzzles however… Well, you CAN join one anothers map, but ONLY if that map is in overflow for one of those people. If it isn’t (which is pretty much the case for every single map except lion’s arch, which is almost always in overflow) then doing hearts or JPs with friends is impossible. If you wanted to hang out in LA though, just join one another’s group, make sure one of you is in overflow, and right click that persons portrait. There should be an option to join that person on their map. AFAIK this ONLY works for overflow maps.

Care to elaborate on that, or are you just another sheep spouting nonsense that this game sucks because you couldn’t find a way to make the game satisfy some insatiable appetite for the game that would otherwise be impossible for it to fulfill? Unlike you, I have been having a blast with it and taking breaks when I get burnt out. either of us are freaking married to the game or anything. You are free to see other games if you wish.

As for you Sylv, if you are having difficulties paying for WPs might I ask what level you are? A lot of people have found ways to fund these things and find ways to make more then enough coin for exotics and what not. Hell, if you are in that much of a bind, I’ll throw a couple of gold your way. It does get easier to pay for this stuff. You just need to be smart about it. (not to imply that you aren’t, you just haven’t found a niche yet)

Do we play the same game? Correct me if I’m wrong (and I am willing to bet you will because I know you will), but do WPs really cost that much money? Even in the grand scheme of things, you would need to use the things a couple hundred times just to equate to a single gold in costs.

Other then that though, I do agree with a lot of your ideas. It is frustrating when friends fall behind in heart progress. Extra loot from harder enemies would be nice, but I think Anet held that back for the sake of the economy. You do however get bonus exp (and quite a lot too) from killing enemies that have not been killed for a long time. You can get well over double the average exp points. Worth it? No, but it’s something.

As for your pvp suggestion, is this regarding structured PvP, WvW, or both? WvW does offer incentive with its cheap access to rare quality loot (particularily amulets, rings and trinkets which can be a tough pricey otherwise) for karma. It also has its own exotic set to shoot for. Structured PvP on the otherhand is indeed very seperate from the rest of the game. You CAN gain titles form it however. This generally acts as a fairly good incentive for some people. I don’t see why it would need much more then that though.

GW2 Rollin With The Storm Game Review

LinkR.6190

First off, there is a reason legendaries are so hard to acquire. The point is that they AREN’T streamlined. They are entitlements to over achieving players (or rich kittens, take your pick). Everyone wants one, but not everyone can own one. That’s what makes them so special. If everyone had them, you wouldn’t give two kittens for them.

Second, dungeons are far from abandoned. Yes, I too wish there was more reward from them, but finding groups for these dungeons is not hard in the slightest. At least not hard if you learn to use gw2lfg.com Yes, it can be frustratingly difficult to find a group the oldfashison way, but there is a reason Anet made the servers so interchangeable and cross server friendly.

Lastly, I can not argue that some events are a bit of a zerg, but that really doesn’t bother me. That is however, my oppinion and I can understand why it isn’t everyones cup of tea. If I want a challenge, I’ll do a dungeon. I’m not going to find success with random people I bump into out in the world (if I’m lucky) against an overly complex world event boss. Especially when I am more likely on my own. Overworld bosses are dumbed down like that on purpose.

For gods sake the game’s barely been out for 4 months. Give it time! WoW’s (yes, I said WoW. Just because I mentioned the game does not warrant a flame war. It is just an example. This is not a green light to troll) vanilla UI didn’t even support extra action bars for like half a year! Granted, we were able to use addons to solve this problem… but it’s the content provided by the devs we are talking about.

A LFG tool would be nice and they have said that they are working on it. It can’t be something as easy to develop as some people seem to think. They have also said they are considering dueling. Give it some time.

Anet is just prioritizing their attention to other more pressing matters such as content, bug fixes, and class balancing. They likely have several teams on multiple projects. When one project gets done they will let us know. You gotta give a game that’s still infancy some slack!
