So no were did they promise
quote “every player/every class/every build accepted everytime”

So you got your complaints from a message that was never stated by anet.

On the revenant what you seem to want is a copy of elementalist attunement but instead call them legends?
I would have skipped weapon switch and have 3 legends that swaped out the 3 utility skills and add a f4 (maybe an f5 to) for each legend giving them close but not the same nr of skills as the elementalist. + depending on legend your weapon skills worked diffrently so the legends would be
1 melee power
1 melee condi
1 healing melee
1 ranged condi
1 range power
1 range condi
for example and you mix the 3 you like.

They would be very versatile but only a master of 1 due to what gear they wear.

a note about the ones I can set my sights on. all those games suck. if gw2 wasn’t the best game on the market I would be playing what was. one can enjoy the massive effort by anet to create an equal opportunity world, while still seeing ways that it could be made better.

And yet you seem to want gw2 to mold it self to copy the mechanics of its fights to the same as these games you dont like why?
If you go in with a full defence team the raid timer suddenly go up to 35 mins instead of 15 since you cant do as much damage as a 90% offence and 10% support team.

Edit
Thats a impossible task to program since they have to do it for all the ranges 80% offense 1 defence 1 support, wait no they are 2 tank 2 support and 60% offense.
The raid enrage timer would go up and down like a jojo.

This is the same categori as people asking to be able to do guild missions with 1 or 2 players the content aint made for it.

imo a good team works kinda like this. you have damage players. when these weak high damage characters die. the defensive player or players rez the damage character thus covering the glass cannon from being one shotted. the utility character for the group might be a buff engine or a portal Mesmer or several other concepts of utility and support. I am not talking about teams of “nomad only” as that would be as aweful as pure damage teams. I am talking about balnced groups that represent different playstyle at the same time doing balanced content.

repeatedly wiping because no one can take any damage is just as prone to failure as not having enough damage to kill the boss in time.

And this sound specificaly like a trinity game you need a tank to absorb damage and be able to revive the poor berserker/sinister/assassins that happen to get aggro of boss.
Buff engi/support mesmer sound more like a healer in said trinity games.

This game will never be that mate, the content you have now can be done by pure dps if your good enough and can avoid damage berserker/assassin/sinister. pure defence everyone in clerics/nomads/settlers.
Or a mix of everything.
Only thing you lose is time, it sounds to me you have to find like minded people form a friends list of those or maybe find a guild, then do 95% of the content out there in what ever.

Untill raids get so farm mode that anyone and their cat can do it or nerfed into the ground.

Edit
Wanting a automated lfg/lfr is fine and dandy but requireing people to use it so you can get groups is not.
There are alot of mmos out there that cater to what you want gw2 is one of the few if not the only that dont.

Wow, rift, dcuo, swtor and elderscrolls online is just afew of them you can set your sights on mate.

a clarifier on my thoughts about “there will always be a meta” I guess what I am looking for is a system that generates multiple metas. i.e. a defensive playstyle that is considered meta and used. a offensive playstyle meta that is considered meta and used. a utility meta that is considered meta and used. not every player is comfortable playing offensively, these players deserve to be a readily accepted part of the game. play your way was what anet promised and it is what I am after. instead of 1 build meta I want multiple metas across different playstyles so that no one is alienated.

And thats what you can do now you can go in with anything and complete dungones it will take longer time then if all were meta and good at it.
But you can go in with full team of nomad geared players and complete any dungeon or fractal. ( you just wont be able to do it in raids as stated before they have a time limit that punish you for not chipping away their health at a specific pace.)

You can do Teq now but thats becouse most of the 150-200 players aint in nomads ( would be cool to see if a full nomads map could finish teq tho)

Meta is said of the best of the best they play with as little defence and support as they can within the team to complete said objective. ( they save time since stuff dies faster)

How would a defence meta look like a mob that have low low hp high defence and high toughness but immune to condi damage immune to crit and immune to 99%?
Hint zerkers would still be able to down it the same time as a pvt they have the same power.

Can you please give examples on how a defencive meta engagement and a utility meta engagement looks like so we can study and say if or if not it would work.

Edit
Remember this is a none hardcore trinity game unlike wow all engangement should be able to be done without tank and healer. ( except now raids it looks like since all the teams who downed it had 1 or 2 support/utility people)

an unkickable group leader would be one way to go on fighting the zerk meta. it is indeed an idea I had not thought about. thank you for this. I am still unsure if when I say “instanced” I am using that term correctly. in dc universe when you want to join a multiplayer raid you que your character up and a team is put together for you. the advantage I see in this is that all builds are allowed an equal opportunity to participate in the game. I think that raids would benefit from this system in gw2. the coding for this system is already in the game. it is how pvp teams are assembled. using this system for both raids/dungeons could see some advantages. I had not thought of the idea of an unkickable leader. that would at least prevent the group hijacking that you expressed frustration in. good idea.

See that’s the reason why this conversation will have a hard time staying constructive. ‘’fighting the zerk meta’‘. There is no meta to fight. This sound like you are in a blind crusade to eliminate the meta. Just like you suggestion to make LFG random and to not allow people to put requirement. There is plenty of player and they all want to play differently. Your way of playing isn’t more pure or good than any other way other player would want to play the game. There is place for everybody and that include the meta. I enjoy the hell out of a good meta run, but I also love to do other stuff.

Why do you have to use those words ‘’fighting the zerk meta’‘. I don’t like the limited amount of choice in build diverstiy in PvE. I want to open the choice. I want condition to be on par with direct damage (not just specific burn build). I want content hard enough that a healer could be a good option, but I also want to be able to do the job with blind, aegis, reflect, and a group of kitten veteran players. I want to everybody to be able to create their LFG with their own requirement and that those requirement will be respected by people joining. I want everybody to play the way they want, accepting that some will be more efficient, but that not everybody will be able to be optimal.

I want less restriction, not more, but bias toward another way of playing just to kill the current meta.

I can see how it may have come across as aggressive. this is not my intent. I want every class/build/gear to be allowed in every party everytime. this is a goal anet once said it had. I agree that build variety should be constantly increased. and yes that would include zerker. one way to allow some of the more defensive builds some opportunity would be to raise average mob damage to the point that a pure glass cannon gets 1 shotted by average mobs unless the player using it is REALLY good at dodging. anet seems to be going down the road of less build variety. I think this is to reduce the amount of balancing to be done and redone. revenant is a good example of this trend. the whole class is autobalanced because there literally is a very small limited number of builds that this class can generate because of it’s locked spirit skills instead of utility skills and the one trait line that is the elite specialization about it.

here is an example of what has frustrated me about my own main. he was built as my first character. he was built as a HHH tribute;is a large norn hammer warrior. in wvw he found his niche. he was a rez engine tank. that is to say when a group dies in a run or when players are dying around him. he runs into what they couldn’t take. he rezzes the player while absorbing any and all damage aimed at him while this is happening. he got a lot of good wvw attention. many tys for what players thought were impossible rezzing situations that he managed. it was a nice friendly build that generated more fun for everyone. then the last feature pack happened. damage was raised damage absorbtion was not. I managed my damage and loot mainly through ret damage via spiked armor trait. he did get loot doing this. he did spike players doing this. I felt that he was my friendliest to other players character.

I say “fighting the meta” because as anet said when any one rune/build becomes the only acceptable one that is unacceptable. I do not want the meta crushed to not occurring that is just as wrong as it being the only thing that is allowed. the cnd dmg boost helped a few builds jump up as an option. I just want it suppressed slightly so that lots of other builds are considered as good as zerk meta is considered. when you can’t get into content because your playstyle is defensive and all players want is max damage it feels like it’s kinda you vs the meta. by fighting I mean suppressed slightly so that other builds are considered equally good. I have a full set of ascended healer gear waiting for my ranger who I intend on being my main after HoT launches. I love that we have a healer now. I am nervous as to how druids will earn loot drops. but if they do then this is a massive step in the right direction of allowing players who are more healer/tank oriented a place in gw2.

There will only be one meta mate if something else is equal then there is something else out there better then both those stat choices.

Its not anet who demand zerker its the players, find like minded people and run what ever you like. ( will you be able to finish raids, we dont know, but from what it looks like the answer is no.
Its still heavy focus on damage so only pvt gear people wont be able to do it)

No we dont want the party dictators back please noone should be unkickable. (unless they get a clear cut other section of lfg so noone join them by accident)

The all welcome groups or chilled runs are none meta partys.

Only been kicked from those if I dont answer a direct question to me or being afk without saying.
And I have likewise kicked players for doing the same.

Last I can remember was a lvl 41 thief in ac p3 while being down or dead on every boss then asking -do you know the last boss fight name.
Repeating it once and saying no answer and we kick and take another guy.

He was still silent so he got kicked.

I dont join groups stating only p1 etc or 80 anymore since I been kicked from them for not being zerker. ( its kitten irritating how lazy some people can be in their lfg )

combat/lore/world depth/character depth/new content/build variety.

as for “If you have any idea about where to find this content-massive, massively online single-player-like rpg, let me know It s long years I wait for it”

Have you tried pillars of eternity, wasteland 2 and divinity orignial sin 1 ( 2 just got kickstarted )

[SUGGEST] Salvage Kits should stack.

And undermine gem-store sales of salvage-o-matics (and infinite gathering tools?)

No thanks.

1) Undermine how? If I want one of those I’d buy one (or more). Now I carry 3 of each tool and 4 salvage kits per toon, so I don’t run out when I am in the middle of something.

With the improvement, I’d carry a stack of each tool on the toon with one stack back up. Same with salvage kits. (one plus one back up)

2) Why are you defending gems store anyway? Are you an employee or getting a commission?

I might have been willing to pay a few bucks per account for a limitless set of gathering tools and salvage kits, but they would have been account bound and at a reasonable price. Say $10 -$15 per tool/ kit. but that isn’t how it went down

I digress though, this is about inventory space. I see no problem with stacking.

1) I feel like I’ve already adequately explained this in previous posts
2) I’m putting across the point that they’re unlikely to add a feature that not only decreases their gem-store sales, but also kicks previously paying customers in the teeth. I paid for convenience and reducing inventory clutter, and wouldn’t have bought the item if I could’ve just stacked salvage-kits in the first place. You have to look at it from a business standpoint.

It’s not a kick in the teeth. That is what they offered at the time. Things change in game. Get used to it. People are now playing the game you likely preordered, for free.

You shouldn’t be jealous anyway. Buyer be ware. You made the purchase freely. You have your item and it still works.

And its a really good offer if you dont want to have the hassle of running to a merchant when you happen to run out of kits or harvesting tools why should they implement something new just becouse you dont want to fork over the in game cash or real life cash for said convenience?

oh so you totaly dident write this.

How about Anet dig up some of the old dailies we had in previous iterations like daily killer, dodger, critter killer, crafter etc and bundle them together with these we have today into a randomized pool that would rotate continuously throughout the day.

- Every time you complete one, you’d get a new one from a random pool.
- Every time you complete 3 after Daily Completionist you get 1 or 2 APs

These two things mean that you have infinite ap farm whole day that would not be healthy to the ap leaderboard at all.
And no Im not at the top I got like 13k ap only

Edit
Your basicly taking the old system and making it an even more chore for the ones that almost burned out on that old system hence the change to cap it to 3 dailys 10 ap.

A constructive suggestion for raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Linken.6345

Linken.6345

First I would like to clarify that I would be glad to see more challenging pve content added in HOT. However, I think it needs to be done very carefully to make sure that the new content is indeed challenging in terms of player skill. Please let me explain.

In most MMORPGs, a raid wing requires 10+ hours to clear, when it is on farm status. If a raid instance resets on a weekly basis, a typical raid guild would schedule two raid nights every week. For each raid night, their members login at 7pm and play until 1 or 2 am. Many skillful players cannot come up with this amount of play time. Therefore, in these cases, many players cannot participate in raiding because it is challenging to get this amount of free time for game play. It’s not because their skill levels are not sufficient. That’s why raids are often called “time sink”.

I am concerned that if this is the case with raids in HOT, then the challenging part is about getting enough free time to raid for 6+ hours straight, instead of learning the encounters. Will this kind of time sink be good or bad for GW2?

Well, three years ago, Anet said that:
“But if you hate traditional MMORPGs, then you should really check out Guild Wars 2. Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun”

Of course, raids being time sinks would be a typical MMORPG trap, and it wouldn’t be healthy to have it this way in GW2, since many players were attracted to GW2 because they “hate” these typical traps. Therefore, I have the following suggestions:

Divide each raid into much smaller raid wings. Each raid wing can be cleared in about an hour for skillful players who have already learned the counters. Use as many raid wings as needed to include all the raid bosses; there can be 10 or more. Initially, each player has to clear the first raid wing before moving on to the second (since there is a story associated with the raid), but he need not clear both in the same week; he just has to have the achievement of completing the first before attempting the second. After he obtains the achievements of completing all the raid instances, he can do raid wings in an arbitrary order. Each raid wing itself still resets weekly.

This is good because:

1. Raid will not become a time sink, and it will not be challenging to get the amount of free time needed to raid. This is because you just need an hour or two to attempt a raid wing, and you need not finish all the raid wings in one week.

2. Raid will still be challenging in terms of player skill. The above suggestion does not require Anet to nerf any boss or encounter.

If it is too late to do this for raids, it is still something to consider after HOT release. Those who can play 6+ hours straight will finish raids first, and when something like what I suggested is implemented, many more skillful players (without this much free time) can still enjoy the raid encounters later.

Please consider my suggestion. Thanks.

oh this can already be done lets say it take 6 hours as you say then these other players only have 2 hours they down first boss on monday second boss wensday and third boss saturady 2 hours each boss and they are on the same playing field as the other raiders.

From what i know, you would have to fix the whole AI of this Game, change the rewards of every Dungeon out so far, rework them if the AI doenst apply and you would make the Raids this difficult, that only dodge and dps isnt nearly enough. Talking about tanking, healing, supporting etc besides other mechanics like getting to XY and doing XY.

That would be really, really interesting and i havent heared nor have i seen much about that. I have to say tho, the new mobs of HOT are way better yes.

I’ve already bought the expansion.

I’m posting because I am having a lot of difficulty convincing friends to do the same.

As a friend said just last evening, “I played Dark Age of Camelot all the way to ToA (Trials of Atlantis). You know what I liked about it? Level 50 remained the maximum level from release to the very present day. That’s 14 years of good solid gameplay. Each expansion was about content. It was about exploring vast worlds as large or ever larger than the original game. Player Crafted armor was how you got your armor, from Legendary Crafters and not Legendary Armor only found in an instance. You’re not selling me that this new content can be anything good. All you’re telling me is Guild Wars 2 is swinging into World of Warcraft territory with armor ceilings locking players out of content and content we’ll not be able to play because it was only made for those players who have it own their schedule to play this game. The master levels are just more levels tacked onto an already excessively high level cap. I want to be able to explore the world, camp a few creatures like Knights used to be in Darkness Falls. I want to walk out into a forest full of Ironwood trees not realizing they are aggressive mobs.”

He went on like this for some time. He wasn’t pleased with the new player experience because it lead to his wife coming to hate the game just as she was getting into it. I think the bottom line is that, for most people the “you’re locked out of content until…” model for making games is just dead. Everyone’s lived through it if you’ve played an MMO and it’s really just an excuse to keep someone playing. Ironically it seems to have the opposite effect. I can’t count how many times girl friends won’t join an MMO at all simply because of the hours and hours and hours they’d have to dump into the leveling process before they reach any sort of content.

I think what players are looking for now is more exploration, more Zelda style content, more vistas and exploration and generally more abilities that sync with using their “brain thing” instead of "press a button, any button, and eventually ‘win’ will happen.

If all of this seems bias and doesn’t really match up with what Guild Wars 2 is I wholly agree, but MMOs have always been abusive of players’ time. They’re designers are usually willing to blow off a huge portion of their subscribers to favor some rare few they’ve christened as the fair haired child. I think lately, with the economy so bad in real life, people really can’t tolerate wasting their time. Either something delivers on the content they are into or they’re just not even going to spare the time to be convinced they’ve not got the whole picture.

Tell your friend that mastery levels are like rvr levels from daoc but for pve instead of pvp.

and then his 50 was max level goes out the window since a fresh 50 was nothing against a veteran rvr guy. ( I had 8-9 50s in that game but my computer couldent handle the large scale fight so hardly any rvr lvls)

Yes and yes you can only use revenant in the beta slot atm since its beta weekend.

And revenant will get released 23/10-2015 so why should you be able to create one in your base game slots mate that makes no sence

Core players are actually not getting a thing from the expansion.

Everyone gets what they pay for regarding the expansion. If you choose not to buy it of course you dont get it. I wont be buying HoT so I wont have access to HoT. I havent bought the new model year of my car so I drive the old one.

As to masteries…what would a character who cant go to the HoT maps do with masteries that, other than the new legendary crafting, can only be used in HoT maps?

Ashen dont forget fractal of the mist mastery line and the pact commander line is nice aswell for the QoL improvements

Here’s what’s going on right now, they are just trying to sell it asap and for as much as they can. ALOT of players who bought it didn’t even know what they are getting because finding that info needs a research which is so stupid and should be right at the purchase screen…

It took me 2h to find out what are the expansion includes and that Core players are actually not getting a thing from the expansion which i was sure that core player are getting at least the masteries from the way it sounded.

So yes basically a quick cash grab while no one is really sure.

Other than that 50% for so little content is way too much when i bought the core game when it came out i didn’t feel sorry at all but after buying HoT and playing the beta weekends i feel like i got totally screwed. The new areas are much easier then the current Orr maps, the 4 new maps are more like 1 big map with 3 floors quite alot to do in them but surly not 1k+ hours i got from the core game.

So for those who didn’t buy it yet..just wait for a sale which wouldn’t take long for new players it’s a STEAL for even 50$ but for vets it’s nothing but a kick in the sack.

No were have they said core owners would get masteries.

They have said masteries are hot only but core world will have their own masteries to train when your there.

you have seen what 25% of the first map so your saying 25% is as big as 25% of a normal map so and then 3 layers of each.

Thats 12 new maps then.

About the difficult of maps they say its some bug that make it way easier then it should be multiple threads about that mate.

I’ll buy it when it’s 20-30$ because that’s what it’s worth with so little content

and then pay 200 gems for each living story you have missed good luck with that

Four maps.

FOUR MAPS.

I don’t care if they’re replayable and content-dense. FOUR. MAPS.

Also, a dramatically low number of new skills. After 3 years of waiting, they give us a whopping 6 utility skills and, like, 2 to 8 weapon skills per profession. Any new content is gonna get dull super fast since the core gameplay (your skillbar) will be nearly identical.

what you get 6 utility skills with what profession?

Yea elementalists can already do everything so all they can get is a new way to do stuff.

No but if you make a totaly new account you dont have to buy the core game since its now included in heart of thorns.

You have played for 2 years for 60 bucks its time to fork out another 50 for the next year or so. ( depending on when next expansion hits)

Or you can wait and buy second expansion and get hot and that one for 50-70 bucks man thats half price there.

Every time the daily log-in reward is one of the Black Lion items, I get a salvage kit. I’m running out of room for the kitten things. Please, let me stack them.

If you have so many that you are running out of room for them, they why keep getting them? You’re obviously not using them, as if you were, you wouldn’t be running out of room for them, so why not pick something else? Or actually start using them?

You cant chose your login reward its random mate.

That I would agree with since its a gemstore item why not be able to stack those.
And yes Im biased since I got a bank tab full of them.

Edit
Maybe its time to put in buy order for armor weapons with sigils/runes that are in high demand and salvage em for some profit.
