Mob attacks that are *fun*

I’m not sure this counts, but I enjoy killing npcs that stealth before they reappear. There is just suddenly a dead creature at my feet.

The giant hylek that toss you up is really fun I agree. I was having a blast on my daredevil during the encounter, but it just added to my “I’m jumping all over the place” fun. I think that mechanics like these are awesome, just not on weak creatures. One big bad guy who can throw you around = fun. Many small enemies that toss you around = annoying.

Ya I really like this review. I didn’t spend as much time on beta as I could of. I wanted to keep the experience fresh for release. But you bring up a lot of good points. Especially about avoiding a mastery treadmill for the longterm health of the game. If gw2 became the kind of game that players would have to grind for months to see the end-game, I think it’ll have lost something that made it special. Masteries should stay fun, easy access, but as you get farther on a mastery line, fun things open up. Don’t make the last tiers essential for any endgame.

I found druid interesting. I was able to tame the from people of verdant brink. Which made fighting the mordremoth much easier, when I could turn the whole jungle against them. I did find they our dodges could use some work, the new aspect based dodges are interesting, but dodging like a bird wasn’t awe inspiring. Maybe give the dodges the warrior gs5 animation. I also found that sacrificing my pet in a blood ritual to be a strange mechanic and felt more in line with necromancer magic. Please consider censoring the actual sacrifice. It would also be nice if we didn’t need to use off-hand dagger for the ritual, I’d like to use the staff I was given to beat the pet for the ritual. It may not be as quick, but at least I get to make good use of the new weapon.

If you are looking to switch up your build each match to best support your team. Then you’ll probably want to play engineer. However, if you are lookign to play a specific role with minimal build changing, then ele, mes, and thief are all good choices.

Obviously for now, elementalist is reigning supreme.

Challenging Content to Stay Challenging

Loboling.5293

I hope they don’t nerf raids aswell. Content intended to be difficult should never be downgraded to a laughable level because some individuals can’t overcome it. If the devs have balanced around it and it is doable (specially without bugs), then there is no need to dumb it down.

I absolutely support this idea. Why not implement it in some RL scenarios?
Senior person olympics? No way, if these old geezers are too feeble to compete in the real olympics, no fame to them.
Special olympics? No way, the disabled should be glad if someone carries their disabled bottoms for example up some stairs.
And by the way, stairs are hard raid content! Never build a ramp beside a stair!
Brail language? If the blind can´t read regular books, who cares? I am not blind yet, so how can this be of concern for me?
Lets pick up all apples from a tree on an alley because there could be someone eating them, for free! Ban ladders from climbing on trees too…

Really, you people sometimes. Want to keep other people away from shinies you own for month because of the off chance that you ever want to return to a raid once, maybe twice because you would be forced to help a friend out and it would be boring for you.

um….. relevance…

It is more like if in order to host the special olympics, they had to remove the regular olympics. I think people would be upset. When the devs update content to make it easier, NO ONE gets to continue to do the hard content.

Try and get some sleep before responding randomly without thinking through the problem.

I am not against them offering a hard and easy mode. But if they do that, they have to be cautious of reward distribution. I just don’t want to see hard content removed before I’ve even tried it.

I can only imagine the outrage if Dark Souls had an “everything is easier” patch. Anyone looking for the challenge the game used to offer, now without hope for a challenge. Removing content shouldn’t be done too much, and especially with such unique content as Raiding is being hailed as.

I know talking about WoW is taboo, but in that game, I was always more casual. I did all the raids eventually, and found them all to be a snore fest. I was told by many players, including my friends that it used to be fun before the nerfs. I only even enjoyed one raid due to being dragged by a friend into it when it was released, and it was fun. I just didn’t normally have time to dedicate to raiding, and by the time I could organize going to them, they had been reduced to shells.

In response to Torolan:

Do not replace the upcoming olympics with special olympics due to player complaints. If you have to, add the special olympics, but do not REPLACE the old olympics. They are very popular.

Challenging Content to Stay Challenging

Hello,

I’m making this post as a request that A-Net does not make the same mistake I’ve seen in other games. That is, make content easier over time to allow more players to visit it. All it does is remove the fun of doing said content. If player A has played Content A over many months and defeated it, and player B joins the game after a nerf to Content A, player B will never have a chance to experience Content A, instead he will experience content B (nerf A).

While players that are currently unable to beat content A, might appreciate a nerf to allow them to beat it, it simly dilutes content, and does no one any favors.

Some tasks in the game are meant to be easy, and enroll you into RP or simply allow you to relax. Some content is meant to be difficult. Most pvp players rather a challenging match, than an overwhelmingly easy one. The point of challenging content is to be challenged. If new players join after the nerfs, they will simply assume gw2 doesn’t offer much challenging pve content.

I personally know someone who couldn’t get into this game, as they saw it as a big waste of time. I told him the whole game was end game, and he said: “if this content is end-game and I can do it in my sleep, why bother”. I tried arguing it gets harder, but for an established gamer, Orr isn’t actually all that hard. You can mostly outsmart the AI as always.

So if you succeed in making challenging content. Please leave it as such, so that anyone will get a chance to try their hand at it. The feeling of beating something following many attempts is what a lot of people want with this content. Don’t change it once you release another raid, so players can focus on this new challenging content.

Hello,

I was hoping someone who knows could inform us players at what time of day HoT is envisioned to launch?

Some players are talking about taking the 23rd of October off, and I am quite temped myself. However, if the release is planned for 12pm, 3pm, (…) it makes a great difference on if it is actually worth it to take the day off. I finish work at 2pm pacific time, so any release after that time on the 23rd would give me absolutely no reason to take the day off.

Thank you for taking the time, and I look forward to the release of this expansion. Like, a lot!

I have to +1 this post. More interactivity from the environments like this could be really fun. And no I don’t mean being hit 200x with 100 damage from falling, while walking on a slight slope. It would be fun, if it was even just an event. For 1 week, snowy areas have a slippery feel and players take no damage by falling on snow. To add to this, allow the npcs to be affected by this, and laugh as you watch spiders and wolves falling down a steep slope if they get too close to the edge. This would proably cause too many bugs though…. Either way, even if just the players get extra mechanics in the snow for a week, I feel it could be a fun event.

What class should I main?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Loboling.5293

What you find fun. All classes have their pros and cons. Currently Elementalist is the strongest class in pvp. (hopefully some slight tweaks in-bound) And mesmer is the strongest roaming class in wvw. (condi)

Aside from strength though, all classes are fairly competitive (outside of tournament play). Even though google could help, I’ll give a brief note on each class and what makes them fun/not fun.

Guardian: Powerful, lots of support, crazy burns/low mobility
Warrior: Mobility, big damage, warrior like/low skill ceiling
Rev: Donno much yet
Engineer: Versatile, high skill ceiling, good sustain/requires good knowledge of the game to be good
Ranger: Low skill floor, versatile (less than engie), the planning profession/dependant on pet
Thief: Mobility, easy stealth, can’t catch me!/squishy (don’t touch me!)
Elementalist: Great sustain, high skill ceiling, great support/limited viable builds due to squishy default class
Mesmer: Spike mobility, stealth, amazing niche support (portal, moa, etc.)/Rely on clones, sort of squishy by default
Necromancer: POWERHOUSE, low skill floor builds (minions)/ low mobility, limited sustain (might change with Reaper)

Good luck, and dont be afraid to try each profession in Heart of the Mists to get a feeling for how they play. In there, you are automatically max level with all skills and traits unlocked.

If you want a good roaming build, get yourself some rapid gear, and make a condi build. Generally, they work better for roaming. I run, tools/alchemy/firearms, elixir H/S/Gun + rocket boots. p/p. I also run mortar for my elite. Against most opponents, its just a matter of burning them down, but on harder fights (condi mes), you’ll find yourself kiting and losing a lot. The extra mobility with rocket boots and elixir bomb are needed to pull off the win. Make their clones chase you and destroy them with mortar before they get close. It is a hard fight, but it can go both ways. Good luck.

HOT Release Date Set - Elite Spec jeopardy?

Loboling.5293

As long as the elite spec has traits of the same quality as soothing detonation, medical dispersion field and health insurance I’m sure we’ll be fine. Just make sure to include another minor that is rendered 100% useless by the grandmaster (tools). Use the same innovation used to construct the new med-kit and we are SET.

On a serious note, I hope they fix these god awful traits and kit. Why not do it before the elite spec reveal? Would make the wait more enjoyable.

On the plus side, I think engineer hammer will be the most fun of the profession hammers. (outside the nerf-hammer, which the devs seem to greatly enjoy. Too bad it can’t get past all those fire fields that the elementalists put down)

I don't think WvW is fun anymore

in WvW

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Sadly, on FA (former TC before T1). I feel much the same. WvW has gotten dull. I still go on sometimes and have an ok time, but the combat just doesn’t feel motivating with so little care by the playerbase. Nowadays, WvW is a little like EoTM. Too much player stacking.

A-Net had a chance to save the game mode, but I doubt that anything other than a complete overhaul could bring it back from the dead. It just doesn’t excite the players anymore.

I used to think when defending: “If I can hold on just a bit longer, reinforcements will arrive”, now I think: “no one is coming and no one cares, I can’t fight a zerg by myself”. When attacking, I used to think: “Are there any weaknesses in their defenses? Maybe we should try to lure them out by pulling back for a big and stealth attack the defenders when they leave their keep”, now I think: “There is no way I’ll take this.” or “should I just afk until the door is broken”.

Basically, the competitive feeling of WvW has died. the game mode is all about fights, but since nothing is balanced in WvW it is not as fun as fighting in pvp, where you know you’ll face a closer balance. (ignore cele ele)

The Forge-Continuing Engi's Mediocrity?(WvW)

Loboling.5293

Sadly, upon thinking it over, I’m fairly confident that the elite spec will include Ai bots.

Here is my reasoning:
-A-net is designing these specs to offer something unique in terms of gameplay. The way they distinguish this, is what you focus on while playing these classes.

-One common complaint that engineers make in terms of gameplay is the reliance on kits.

-Kits are often refered to spam gameplay. And while it is not about spamming, they offer a very fast paced playstyle, that involves deep knowledge of skills and using the appropriate skill at the right time.

-AI builds are often more about positioning, since they are generally weak to 1vX, so you try and limit your fights to smaller scale.

-A build with AI would play very different than any current engineer builds.

-A-net nerfed turrets to uselessness, which could’ve offered a similar playstyle, but they don’t mesh well with the melee hammer option being released.

-A-net also nerfed the thieves acrobatics line (like turrets), in order to give them an elite specilization that resembles an older playstyle they removed. (like turrets)

Given all these things, it looks to me like A-net is adding a unique playstyle to the class, similar to one we had before but lost with the trait update. The goal will be to make bots that allow the player to focus less on utility skills and more on positioning. Our elite specilization has taken a lot of time due to the fact that out toolbelt skills are being replaced with bot control similar to ranger. This is a big rework and was done due to the biggest complaint about turrets being their low skill floor. This will give players direct control over the AI, but it will still allow a more relaxed and easy playstyle for the engineer that will likely not be viable outside of open world pve. (and off point bunker in low level pvp)

It just makes sense with how they reacted to turrets and are really trying to distinguish between our stationary AI (which sucks), and our mobile AI. I think though that the hammer is going to offer some very powerful attacks to compensate, and we’ll see the first engineer auto attack that is worth using. (possibly a 3 part chain that delivers a blast finisher), and all sorts of seemingly awesome abilities, but our new utilities will be generally passive, outside of positioning and activating their different modes.

pvp is so fast paced... how is this fun?

Sorry to say this, but L2P. I understand that rolling zerker on thief or elementalist is more of a joke, but you need to realize what classes can run berzerker. I have no problems running zerker on any of the 15k hp classes. With enough practice you shouldn’t either. Tweak your build, and learn proper positioning if you are going to play a glass canon build. Learn when to retreat, and when to push in. It will take time, but if you just started playing, well, this game has a fairly high skill cap, so expect to be slaughtered by players with years of experience. I’ve been playing for 2, and I still get made to look like a noob by some players. Live and learn.

I run mercy runes, and can really help keep my team alive with stealth, condi clears, rezes, moa, rampage, safe stomps and excellent sustain. I can handle any build 1v1, and have great roaming speed, so I try and be involved in team fights to keep my side up and apply some light pressure (I also add about 5 condis on multiple targets at time, allowing for some other condi classes to have an easier time). The new cele seems to be about support and 1v1 potential. You play a bruiser role, with lower damage than other bruisers, but some abilities that can make a great difference.

As we are thieves and we are supposed to steal, the logical evolution should be to convert the class into “The Banker” that use the long speeches about “Growing”, “Debt”, “Markets Expansion” etc as principal offensive an defensive mechanics.

The new weapon shouldn’t matter at all while it provokes “torment” and “confusion” 5 stacks each skill.

The elite traits line should have something like “hide behind politicians” you stealth yourself behind a Lord when your health reach the threshold (90%). And probably “take the money and run”, you steal all the money in foes around you and shadow step until someone else takes the blame.

Something like that, yeah.

EDIT: typos

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to see another profession get shouts with HoT. It would get tiresome. Otherwise, if the thief summoned minions to spread his propaganda, and set up a black market, I’d be okay with that.

I have an okay time in WvW, but its not as fun as a few years back when everyone was excited. Now, I see so many people just dueling and a few blobs or larger groups, but it has lost its lust in the community. I wish they could do something to combat coverage wars, but A-Net doesn’t seem to care much… sadly… Now, I hop in do some dailies, roam a little, and very occasionally try some of the larger fights, but they are all boring when you aren’t in a guild and even still not that great. I think that WvW is on life support, and without any changes will continue to shrink. And no I’m not asking for another golem rush event, these things can be fun, but unless the main problems with WvW are addressed, then the game mode will not progress and will slowly die.

I miss points mattering to the community. Now, there is no competition outside T1. (although I haven’t been in T1 for a while, so maybe that has changed as well) Points are a joke with coverage playing such an important role. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!

I should mention, that I still enjoy the rest of the game.

As for the leveling question, it depends on what you do and how much you do it. You get to max level in anywhere between a few minutes to a few years. If you want to max out really fast, there are guides all over the forums and YouTube. While I do know the fastest way to level, I don’t think you will have access to it. Good luck and I hope that helps.

A few years or a few minutes? 0_0
How can that difference be so big?

How will it turn into a few years? How does one lvl when it turns into that long?
How does it turn into a few minutes?
Or days/weeks in between?

Only players who have collected ~79 tomes of knowledge can level to 80 in minutes. It is not something to think about for now. But after your first character, every other character will be a breeze to level. Expect to spend 3-8 weeks leveling to 80. Unless you play A LOT, then you can do it in a few days. But very few play games like that.

I’ll put a quick run down on the strengths and weaknesses of each class, and what you want to look for are classes that play to your strengths and cover your weaknesses.

Guardian:
Pro: Tanky, hard hitting, player based teleports (teleport to other players)
Con: Lack of mobility

Warrior:
Pro: Tanky, hard hitting, great mobility
Cons: Limited sustain (outside of some builds), no teleports, and limited growth (not very skill intensive)

Ranger:
Pro: Versatile, can have excellent range, calculated, great at staying alive
Con: Limited by pet, very little you can do to ramp up your damage (so all the skill is based on cc and survival), calculated (it is required to play well)

Thief:
Pro: Highest mobility, Easy escapes, great spike damage, fluid.
Con: Squishy, MUST make good use of mobility to stand up to other proffs, lack sustain

Engineer:
Pro: VERSATILE!, Stealth access, good direct and condition damage (so if you have time to change builds, can adapt to your enemies)
Cons: Can reduce framerate with all the explosions, no teleports

Elementalist:
Pros: Always have access to many skills types. (almost 2x the buttons as some other proffs), fluid, teleports, great sustain.
Cons: Squishy, no stealth, limited build diversity

Necromancer:
Pros: Very powerful, good build diversity, great sustain, Tanky, some teleports
Cons: Does not scale sustain well in pvp to the number of enemies (death shroud is a set amount of extra hp), limited mobility, vulnerable to cc

Mesmer:
Pros: Very agile in combat, stealth, fluid, good build diversity
Cons: Squishy, low mobility, relies on clones and phantasms(this is not so much a con, as it it situationally good/bad)

For pvp, some classes are stronger than others right now, but its constantly changing, so its better for you to focus on what class you will excel at, and continue. All classes are viable in pvp, but they will function best with a team comp that plays well together. Builds that are more do-everything-ish (ele) are easy to fit into most teams, while classes with lots of diversity can adapt to the meta better than others and even change things up before a match starts.

I know you want to be “wanted” for pvp, but just based on what you’ve said so far. I think a Ranger would be a great class. It has a high skill cap, versatile, defensive by nature (meaning you will focus mostly on staying alive, with the occasional damage combo), and it gives you a good perspective on the game. The class can be very easy to start, which can be a downside, but once you start to fight better players, you’ll realize mistakes you are making all the same. Making good use of your pet and positioning is pivotal to ranger success. You have build flexibility, which means that even once HoT comes out, you will be able to find a solid build. The class also lends itself well to those that love planning, as you seem to, by coming here and doing the research you are.

Another interesting class for you would be engineer. The class has a lot of the benefits of the Ranger, but survival will be more difficult. You will however, have more fun dealing damage, as there are a lot of options to ramp up your damage on an engineer. It is probably the hardest class to master, but don’t worry, you don’t need to master it to compete. It can feel much more spammy than the Ranger (more buttons, compared to the slow methodological nature of the Ranger)

Elementalist can be fun, but without much build diversity you may get bored sooner. Also, with them being in the crossairs for nerfs, you are bound to get weaker sometime this year. Although the class does offer a few builds that have many options as you play, allowing you to learn a lot about the combat systems in gw2.

Thief is simple by nature, but has a huge skill cap. A great thief is a great asset, but it’ll take some time to get into the right mindset. (unless it just clicks for you)

Hi there,

Welcome to GW2, one of the best games on the market today (in my opinion). While your focus may be pvp, I’m sure you’ll find other activities you enjoy, as there are quite a few. I know some people that love gathering. I myself fell in love with jumping puzzles. Now the reason I bring this up, is that all classes have their perks, and some stand out more in some game modes. Anyway, enough of the boring stuff.

Each class has slightly different difficulties associated to it, so while a thief has a hard time staying on a node in pvp, they have an easy time running away on a moments notice. Guardians can hold a node much easier, but will have to know when to disengage or you won’t escape. So “hard class” depends a lot on your strengths and weaknesses as a player.

I’ll give you an example. I hate to run from fights, and will often charge head in. I also can, if I’m in the right mood, easily identify when to escape, and don’t find myself putting myself out of position solo. So, the strengths of the thief don’t lend well to me, which means I will have a hard time with Thief. Sometimes, I’m in the right mood, and I can rock it as Thief, but if I’m feeling more laid back, I’ll often run in, and run out without doing much, use my mobility to decap, etc, but I won’t have an easy time being effective if I run in right away.

I can’t understand what everyone else is saying, but you were right. The elixirs are good. I drink maybe 3-4 a day, and my world is sometimes large, sometimes I feel the wind in my hair, but I’m always tripping on something. If you are going to play engineer and stay positive, just take some time to sip some elixirs and watch the world turn. (Oh wait that’s you spinning as a tornado) Man I’m tripping right now…

On a less positive note, I’ve heard that many engineers have developed quite the addiction to elixirs. I see them drink multiple elixrs in the span of a few minutes, they even lose their minds so much, they start tossing their elixirs all over the place like they don’t care about the cost anymore. If you encounter those engineers, you should keep your space. The addiction can be transmitted by watching those elixir hounds beating down on other players. Often people get tempted to try just a sip of some elixir, but they get hooked. Just take it easy, and consume elixirs with moderation.

If on the other hand you already find yourself intoxicated and looking for more, pm me, and I can send you a real nice all elixir all the time build. You won’t go 10 seconds without some elixir in your blood.

I play two different celestial engineer builds. Both are virtually identical, but I swap firearms to inventions for my more bunker build. Funny enough, I’m not using grenades. I slot elixir H, R, S, gun and X. Alchemy, firearms, tools. I can sustain really well in teamfights, help with rezes (mercy runes with toss R, or elixir S rez, or stealth rez), I put out a lot of conditions, although none do amazing damage, its really hard to cleanse. I also have good direct damage with rifle. I can 1v1 any build I’ve encountered, and again when it turns into team fights, I can offer might and rez support, along with cleanses and heals, other boons, I can remove rampage or lich. The build is very versatile, and feels a lot like the old cele engineer in terms of 1v1 potential. I’m sure there are some, but I’ve still yet to lose or have to give up a point 1v1 to a celestial ele. A good thief can force me off point in a +1, but they won’t down me, and unless they stay 2 at the point, I’ll simply recap it 1v1. It is my standard conquest build for now.

Which class is most faceroll?

Here’s my personal tier list for difficulty, by which I mean skill-needed-to-play-class-optimally (not just which classes might be imbalanced atm):

Very Easy -
None. This game in general has a high skill cap. Compared to most games, every class in GW2 PvP has a very high skill cap.

Easy -
Warrior, Ranger

Average -
Guardian, Necro, Mesmer

Hard -
Elementalist, Thief

Very Hard -
Engineer

I main a necro so no ele bias here.

This is a good list. However, this should have two lists. Easiest to play and easiest to master.

Med Kit suggestion

I really like this idea, especially bringing back healing bombs. Currently the 1 skill on medkit is useless. Also for multiple drops, back in the day, one of the best uses for med-kit (outside of proc on healing skill runes) was stacking a bunch of med packs and holding a node. When the enemy shows up, you have a bunch of heals on stand-by. They added this to the F5 of supply crate, but dropping a bunch of med packs would be cool, they can even nerf their durations a little or something. Bringing back healing bombs would rock.

There will be no elite spec reveal tomorrow. They will instead do a big reveal discussing all the masteries coming with HoT. Next week or the following one should (hopefully) be the next elite spec reveal. And based on my sixth sense, it will be either ranger or thief.

This is all based on my reasoning that I’m too lazy to discuss lol, so take it with a grain of salt, but I find thief elite spec tomorrow highly unlikely.

Edit: Just checked the front page, and a couple hours ago they announced that the poi will cover masteries. Will it be complete? who knows, but its not a thief reveal tmr.

I mostly chimed in to counter what some were saying that mesmer got destroyed by the update. I don’t think mesmer is a weak class at all. When I face them, or when I decided to try playing it, it feels like a tough contender, and in all the ways a solo player usually weighs, a stronger profession than engineer.

I’m glad to see people less focused on mesmers, which means I’ll have to fight less of them. I just find them an easy class to compete with, although I’ll admit they have a high skill ceiling.

6 Games in 2 years do not give you good assessment of a class.

That’s basically most of the problem of class imbalance complaints. Most players just pick a certain meta build from some website and did okay after a few games and thought they knew everything inside out.

For example, for mesmer, can you at least try playing w/o PU and playing w/o torch first? You will get a much better idea how the class works.

I’ll admit that overpowered might be the wrong choice of word. However, the game I played was without PU, and I didn’t visit any site to make my build, just read the traits and grabbed what I liked. I know I don’t have an understanding of the class, and I’m not advocating nerfs for mesmer. I was just pointing out that it felt much stronger than engineer. (and I have ~400 games on engineer) There is nothing wrong with a class being easy to pick-up. But it made my engineer feel weak by comparison.

Meta Newb

Hey fellow engies,

I got out of a match yesterday that ended 350-500 on my engineer. This was my build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlcTh6rYJXwmKQ+FLsF1YcMGfB4IuBBgYHNFPBA-TJBFwAl2fIxDAoaZAAXAAA

Now when the game finished, since I had a lot of good fights and I’d call this a close game. Maybe not super close, but the enemies were relentless and half way through the game took control of mid in legacy, which is big, but we avoided mid as they had a bunker guard and controlled the side nodes and won. It was hard, and fun to win. So I type gg, and I get a response of “lol, it wasn’t a gg you meta newb”. I thought to myself, how is playing engineer meta. I mean sure my build is fairly solid, but it doesn’t show up on meta battle, and I have yet to encounter another player with the same build.

So I just thought I’d share with all you other engineers trying to find good builds since the changes. YES, you can beat down some players so hard they will think you are playing a meta build. I mean, what is meta right now? Either way, it confused me for a bit, then made me feel funny inside to think that my build is clearly working for me.

This is going to be a bit weird to quote myself, but for clarity I’l do it.

I went and played a mesmer yesterday for the first time since the update. I joined a ranked, expecting to get owned, but we won, and I did awesome.

So here, I bring up my recent experience hoping on my mesmer for the first time in months.

Ergo, I still think mesmers are OP. Compared to my engineer (where I play most games), I felt stronger, and I have almost no experience with mesmer and none since the update.

Now I didn’t mention how many games I have on my mesmer, but the answer is 6. So here I mention that compared to my engineer, the mesmer felt stronger and easier to pick up. Overpowered by comparison.

Mesmer might not get complained about as much anymore, but they are still very strong. The difference now is that if you are on your toes, you can survive and counter mesmer burst. So things don’t feel ridiculously broken anymore, just like you have one hand tied behind your back when fighting a mesmer.

Again, here I mention that when playing on my engineer, I feel at a disadvantage when fighting mesmers. However, I also mention that the recent changes have made fighting mesmers a more enjoyable experience. I no longer consider them to be god tier, but I do consider them to be a strong profession.

Honestly, I’m not familiar enough with the class to advocate any kind of nerf. They just feel very solid. Maybe instead of nerfing, Anet could buff some of the other classes. (engineer, ranger, and give thieves back ricochet)

Here I mention again my limited knowledge of the class, and explain that I am in no position to advocate nerfs to the class. Instead I propose that engineers and rangers be buffed slightly. And that thiefs get their ricochet back.

The game is somehow almost as close to balanced as it was before the update, which is promising. Nerfing the burst sigils, and bringing down some of the crazy damage. (although where is the fire damage nerf? or I should say elementalist burning nerf, that class is in its own league right now) Once, elementalist skills that burn have been reduced, and other classes have had a slight bump, and bug fixes (engineer have lots of bugs since the update which weaken us), I think the game will be even more balanced than before the update. We may be heading in a good direction once all these changes go in. I just hope they don’t wait too much longer.

Now I mention what I find to be some of the reasons that the game feels very close to balanced, but that elementalist is strictly stronger than every class, and should be brought down. I also mention that bugs are a big part of what is weakening the engineer, and if those could be solved engineers may be balanced with the mesmer.

So in a nut shell, again, mesmer is stronger and easier to pick-up than engineer. With only 6 games on a mesmer in the past 2 years, I managed to do very well. (I didn’t explain what I meant in the post, but I won many of my 1v1, and felt like a walking destruction god. I only died once all game, and this is in a bracket of play that is at least somewhat close to the skill level I encounter on my engineer.) Lastly, bug fixes and some small tweaks to engineer and ranger could really help, as well as nerfing elementalist burning.

If you read my whole post, you’ll see I’m comparing mesmer to engineer. I actually think that mesmer is where most classes should be. but here is a tldr for those with trouble reading.

Trouble reading eh? I haven’t done this in a while, should be fun, it’s time for a game of ’let’s use forum quotes to find the backtracking’!

I actually think that mesmer is where most classes should be.

Instant fact check!

I joined a ranked, expecting to get owned, but we won, and I did awesome.

Ergo, I still think mesmers are OP.

Choose one. Either you think mesmers are op, or you think they’re balanced.

It’s nice that you’ve decided to adjust your stated opinion to something more based on logic and less based on the wobbly platform of personal anecdotes and assumptions, but don’t try to deny things you already said.

I’ll try and come back to simplify things for you again, but reading is about context. Sometimes you have to read the before and after to understand the message. Sure I think mesmers are overpowered, but literally the next thing I say is “compared to engineers”. I mean come on, could you not read the next few words? As I said, if the first message was too long to read, please refer to my TLDR.

I’d definitely put thief up there with engineer for hardest class to play in pvp. Sure you can run around and never get downed, but applying pressure is such a dangerous thing, you need to know exackly when to pull out and what you need to focus on in terms of map objectives. (decap, tranq, +1, etc) A thief not fulfilling his roles is a burden to the team.

Engineer is different, there are so many builds, but some of them offer similar challenges as the thief, but with a slightly more forgiving nature, but more buttons to press. I’d say it has the higher skill cap, but lower skill floor than thief.

TLDR: Mesmer is easy to pick-up due to the numerous stealth, teleports, and evasions. Having played a engineer mostly these past few weeks, I feel that engineer could use a bump to be brought back to the mesmers level. I also think that ranger could use some love. Lastly, elementalist are the only class I think needs a nerf right now.

Loboling.5293

Hardest classes currently in my eyes:
Thief/Engineer

Faceroll classes:
Ranger, mesmer, elementalist, guardian

Faceroll classes that do well:
Mesmer, elementalist, guardian.

Necormancer, and warrior I consider to be middle ground in terms of difficulty.

I also want to mention that ranger feels very limited by the class design. You can reach 80-90% of the skill cap without much effort. The other faceroll classes offer way less limitations, while necro and warrior are also limited like the ranger, they are also harder, and necro has a few excellent builds currently. Also, Warrior is the most simple class, but that doesn’t make it as easy to play as some other classes in pvp, just less things to focus on, but landing those few things is critical.
