Are the new weapon skins seriously 2 tickets?

It looks like I have been lucky with my drop rate… Either way, I’ve now seen the video of these new skins and beyond being way overpriced, I’m not even interested.

I hope less people buy this, so we can continue to get these gambling products as reliably as in the past. Halving the chances of your gamble producing results is aggravating.

Loboling.5293

Let’s say on average you get 1 ticket for every 10 keys used. Assuming you buy the most efficient keys, you could get an old skin for about 10$. They just upped that value to 20$… For a single skin, part of a skin pack. If you wanted to try and collect them all through tickets, it would cost about 320$ for the set. Of course, as usual, you’re better off buying the skins for gold and converting gems, but this is absurd.

BLC were already one of the most complained about topics for fashion wars 2, now the problem has been doubled. Soon they will bring back old releases for 10 tickets a pop…

This is absurd change. I’ve been playing since release, and I always buy the skins I like, but why double the starting cost?… All BLC skins have been released at 1 ticket per skin. I regret saving my tickets for this set… Complete garbage change… Time to start putting my money elsewhere if GW2 is going to keep acting like a sinking ship.

IS D/P really "Meta" in lower ranks??

in Thief

Loboling.5293

Sadly, as a former thief main who didn’t really enjoy D/P, I tried many alternatives, but D/P is just the best set for thief. You can play other weapons in lower tiers. (almost all are viable) But if you practice D/P you’ll surpass your limits with other sets. Each set does have it’s own strengths, but D/P is good at: surprise attacks (+1), burst (not the highest though), disengaging, some mobility (so you don’t need to swap to shortbow always), interrupts, gap closers. It really brings everything a thief needs for the +1 role, while leaving you the option to run shortbow with your other weapon to allow for easy decaps. All the other weapons lose something to gain a stronger attribute somewhere else, but they always lose something key.

Staff: strong burst, no interrupts, weaker on disengaging, less sneakiness (bad for +1), some evades to stay in the fray. (which only works on some comps)
P/D: Does this exist in pvp? Okay, you can probably make this work in the very lowest tiers.
D/D: Condi spam, can actually be annoying enough to reach high tiers. It has dodges like mad, limited stealth, and some mobility. It’s truly a silly set, but it can solo lord 1v3… It’s practically impossible to save lord from a good one.
P/P: Great burst, range, awkward stealth access, interrupts, no mobility.
S/P: Great burst, mobile (to other players and back with skill 2), evades (easy to exploit at higher levels), decent disengages, interrupts. It lacks easy stealth access and the surprise burst of D/P. The burst is more similar to P/P, but easier to avoid.
S/D: Evades, sustain, some stealth, similar disengages to S/P.

As you can see, the only set which has interrupts, good stealth, burst and mobility is D/P. The set gives you amazing +1 potential, which is thieves only role in conquest. (But again, some manage with annoying far capper on d/d or lord slayer with the same build) I’d say if you had to play something other than D/P in low tiers, I’d try D/D. Just run far and spam 3.

Setting challenges for open world and story

Loboling.5293

Okay, lets go over some basics:

1) You want to wear no armor: This will allow creatures to hit you for much higher damage. Instead wear an outfit to not get too cold.
2) Your weapon should be upgraded as you feel comfortable. It will make a huge impact on your kill speed.
3) Don’t wear trinkets or a back piece that is over leveled for the zone. Also avoid damage reduction stats like toughness and vitality.
4) Roll a medium – low health profession, but not ranger. I suggest either a thief, ele, mesmer, engie, guardian.

With this set-up, you should still deal pretty high damage and take the maximum damage, which will allow the npcs to at least damage you.

Otherwise, depending on your personality, I’d create some rp elements for the character. These can range from “scared of spiders”, which could force you to only face spiders with other players. Or you can go as far as only attacking what attacks you, like a soft-pacifist. Or not being able to swim, but you can learn by level 40 or something, but still avoid deep water until 80. So many options, but I suggest you pick something that connects with your personality. This will add an extra challenge that will also increase your enjoyment of the game.

When I RP characters I tend to create stories for them in my head so that I can give context and meaning to these game decisions. Like on my revenant, my character behaves different depending on legend, and he’s been struggling to maintain control with some of the more dangerous legends; often going on needless killing sprees when swapping to Malix or Shiro. (I’ll sometimes keep killing after finishing a heart until I swap to glint and return to my senses.)

Good luck!

They should just change skill 3 to be a self detonation skill. Increase the damage by 50%, but it now kills you if it doesn’t kill and enemy. Now you can accelerate the process and deal a bit more damage before you do.

Frustrated with my Ele.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Not saying this for the OP, since he seems to really not understand the ele yet, but auramancer is the only viable build in platinum and above (maybe), but I made it from silver (after some bad placement matches) all the way to platinum (I was actually one game away when I stopped, so who knows) all played with glass staff ele in pvp. (zerker amulet)

So for lower tier pvp a lot of viable builds open up, but the higher you go, the less this becomes possible. When I solo a ranger and condi mes and maintain control of the point, you know you’re playing in low skill bracket.

I’m certainly not suggesting OP tried glass staff, but it’s viable through tier 3 gold, and that is starting from tier 1 silver. Although, for me, staff is my most comfortable weapon to play with. (but it really sucks at 1v1, but can beat players who are way less skilled)

Glass staff offers a lot of cc, condi cleanse, and most important huge pressure on the point. You can only play this build when you have mastered portal locations on maps, but once you do, you’ll only ever die to other players who also share this knowledge. (more and more at higher tiers)

When is Queen Jennah going to get married to a king, in order to the Krytan Royal throne will move on?

Jennah has been multiple times getting kidnapped, attempting to murder her and even high ranked ministries went behind her back as they were White Mantle spies/agents.

[SPOILER WARNING]

A-Net plans to release a final expansion when the game is on it’s last legs. The expansion is called Fashion Wars. (placeholder title)

You’ll actually be able to get married and make “children” with a chosen partner and create not just hybrid races, but hybrid classes. But the children have to grow up first, and they and your partner will have full access to your wardrobe. We’ll be calling the new wardrobe: wardrobe 2.0 (placeholder title). Some limited restrictions on inter-race options.

The personal story will finally continue, and when playing the human character you’ll get the chance to marry the Queen after being praised as the greatest hero of all the land. This option is available to both genders for fairness, and will allow the security of the royal bloodline to finally be safeguarded.

Oh, and Logan will die to save you two before this happens. Off screen of course… But characters won’t stop reminding you of how painful it must of been. Oh and Rhytlock is your best man.

The end.

(especially thief nowadays) I really hope they continue to work on it and try and return the game to a time where it felt a bit more calculated and trade-offs were more prevalent.

Team vs. Solo: Which Do You Prefer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Loboling.5293

I mostly play solo, but I do enjoy the option for teams.

I think the matchmaking needs to be a little cleaner for team compositions.

In general I think teams of 5 or 4 shouldn’t fight teams of solos, but honestly I don’t think they have a great way to balance this… A team of 5 can be great, with voice communiation. Take that away, and its pretty much 5 players who enjoy playing together.

My favorite games were beating down full premades. That moment a group of soloers find a weakness in the team of 5’s strategy, and begin to out rotate them. The thing about teams of 5, there is usually a bit more clarity on who does what, so they are in that way, more predictable.

I loved beating them, but it’s true you lose more against a full premade…

Not sure the right solution, but I think blocking teams entirely for another season would be a mistake.

Is there something called Dragon’s Watch, or did they scrap that idea? haha

The video in question is an outnumbered roaming video of sc/f fresh air base ele. (no tempest)

There is the catchy song from it I want to hear again keeps saying: “no sleep no sleep no sleep”.

I remember the guy posting it said he didn’t want to post the video for a while because he thought the quality wasn’t very good. But when you watch the video you have no idea what he’s talking about, seeing him take on 1v3s on fresh air ele quite skillfully.

I hope someone can find this video! haha

Currently, Whats the best class for PvP

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Latest balance patches showed very coutionous changes resulting in close to nothing.
I expect the sigil update and not much more… (Well i still hope more weak/unused skills get buffed).

Currently it´s like the following.

Dragonhunter or maybe even other guard builds are easy to use and powerful. You will get carless or low skilled players regulary.

Warrior: Most solid “Lonestar”

Thief: Powerful to win matches if you have good map awareness and know where to go but more then one in a team can cause a downfall.

Mesmer: If you are good it´s the carry match class.

Elementalist got mentioned and is a bit the oposite of dragonhunter. Elementalists are team dependent. In higher skill level play its a match winner for teamfights. In duo Q with a necromancer quite powerful. But the class can´t carry a bad team. The map control classes thief, mesmer and warrior are the good one´s to compensate a bad player.

Also i see lots of druids. Nearly all matches one on each side. I think people just like the hunter style with a strong bow and pet. The class is a very solid allrounder but i personally don´t find it a great threat or carry class.

This is a good summary. Some classes are quite strong, but comp dependent, while others will bring more with random plebs.

For me, when I’m feeling try-hard, I’ll log in with my thief, if we have another, but are missing an ele, I swap to ele, otherwise I’ll swap to guard or warrior. If the enemy team has a thief, I’ll drop mine and swap to DH.

Hope this helps in some of the composition craft that goes on before games. (I’m not a very good ranger, necromancer, or mesmer, so I don’t bother with those)

So thief has always been one of my favorite classes in the game; I’m sure if you’re here on the thief forum, chances are you feel the same. But I’ve been wondering what thief mains play when they are taking time away from their mains.

For me, I have really enjoyed the elementalist (much less since trait revamp) and engineer (also much less since revamp, and also elite specialization). Otherwise, I find all classes offer a fun gimmick, but I have a hard time dedicating much time.

Ranger: Pew Pew
Mesmer: Burst or “how can I eat this sandwich while I beat the hardest hero challenge”
Guardian: Boom
Necro: I wish I liked you
Warrior: Knock people around
Revenant: Has nice rhythm.

Please explain this skill

in Revenant

Loboling.5293

it does a total of kitten across the 3 phases of dmg

It does three attacks, each one cascading outwards, but they do not overlap.

So if phase 1 hit 5 times phase 2 and 3 deal 0 dmg

It can hit a maximum of 5 players total. Each attack being AOE, but as mentioned not overlapping.

Basically means this skill is God tier at range an in melee it meh.

The first attack is weak, but gains damage with each cascade. With the final hit dealing lots of damage at 900-1200 range, but being fairly weak in melee.

Hope that helps.

Questions For Experienced Revs

in Revenant

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I’m not sure about which other professions you’ve tried, but they all suffer from trade-offs. If you want mobility, you give up something, if you want good condi clear you often give up damage.

Either way, I’m no expert rev. (Been playing this game for 4 years though) All the classes suffer some of this, but Rev doesn’t let you buildcraft as much. If you can’t find the solution on rev, chances are these are the limitations of the profession.

I was just maining rev this season, but a single condi engineer I bumped into a few times got me to reroll…. haha.

Sometimes a class feels great, but then you find it’s weaknesses… This game is fun, but it can be really hard to settle on a end-all-be-all build.

Closest I think would be with the Ranger, since you can use your pet to make up the difference. Engineer is also flexible enough to allow some silly builds, but they all fall apart somewhere.

Good luck with your Rev, and if you’re new (which is my impression), welcome to the game. Good luck finding a profession you like. (I think Engineer would match druid vanilla/Bc druid better than rev. Trust me, it was my main, both actually. hehe)

Can we get rid of re-queues

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I don’t see any need to punish players for missing a queue. I don’t like this change, since its implementation.

Biggest offender is if the queue pops during a loading screen (like when porting within the same zone) the queue will never show up, but you’ll be kicked and get dishonor. I always worry about using waypoints, and stick to running when I’m in queue… This bug is the likely reason you drop queue when you change zones, but it’s all very frustrating.

Either way, not my least favorite change lately. (My old 5 rangers team can no longer queue for unranked due to a limit per profession) Either way, for another thread…

I hope something happens to allow queuing to be more fluid. I’d love to just keep playing while I queue, but I tend to feel some stress instead. (Due to what was mentioned above)

Is animation cancelling a thing in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Generally yes, animation cancelling is very important to some builds and styles of play.

On my engineer, I could never play without proper use of it. The main agent of this is my favorite kit, the elixir gun, which completes the attack quickly and then launches you far back, when you don’t want to go flying you can press the weapon swap key and you will stop yourself from flying back.

As mentioned before, there is also animation cancelling in this game to avoid wasting cooldowns. Some skills will only go on cooldown at the end of the cast (some at the start or midway), these can be cancelled when their use would serve no use.

On most classes however, there is very little animation cancelling. But knowing how to use it (weapon swap/weapon swap) during the animation, will help you become a better player. You can even travel farther distances with some movement skills by cancelling them. Because you cut off the landing animation, allowing for a more fluid continuation of your movement.

Trust me, it’s a fun part of the game, but be sure to learn the basics first. (combo field interactions, positioning, boon stacking, stealth stacking, cover conditions and cleanses, movement speed functionality, and profession abilities) These are far more important and will always serve you.

Bring back Countryard!!!

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

On the topic of deathmatch. I also was dreaming yesterday of a free for all mode on a modified version of the map. You get 1 point per kill, and lose 1 point per death. 6 players. To secure a kill you must deal the majority of the damage to the player (damage reset when healed to full) So it would be a mode where players try and burst eachother, while avoiding getting stomped, and if you see someone go down, it’s in your interest to “help” them, because a complete down would give a point to another player. (Since there is only 1 point per kill, based on who dealt the most damage from 100%-0%)

Could be super fun, and to make it, just modify the courtyard map a bit to have 6 entrances for players to come from. Maybe even make the mode go up to 10 players. But I think 6 would be the best number. Could even include 2v2v2 for it.

Bring back deathmatch, some of us miss it a lot!

It was among my favorites, such good times, just taken away for no seaming reason.

ps: I’d rather get 5 customization build templates. This would allow you to equip weapons, gear, traits and utility skills all with the press of a button, once you’ve set the template up. Would be my favorite feature!

You can change your axe sigil of agility if you replace a single beserker piece with some concentration. I’d suggest bloodlust.

With that you’ll have huge power, reaper shroud would have 100% crit chance, and you’ll just mow everything down. Death’s charge would reset on kill, and with 100% swiftness duration, you would just slaughter your way through maps.

Good luck.

Best build for open world pve stuff?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I’m not super familiar with the necromancer, but I’ve been getting more curious myself. I know when I get started I plan on making use of reaper’s onslaught. (in the reaper line) Which reduces the cooldown on all reaper skills when you kill a foe, will probably make getting around and slaughtering mobs for heart missions really fast. So I’d actually suggest a power build. I’d think something like dagger/WH + Axe/X would be ideal. Dagger having the highest dps, and axe giving you some breathing room for ranged if need be. Otherwise, I’d probably pick up soul reaping to further buff reaper shroud.

This is all assuming you unlock the reaper. For the rest, I’d try and maintain permanent swiftness with the warhorn, but not sure where the reduced cooldown trait for that is.

Let me know how this all goes. I think the necromancer is a cool profession, but I always give up because of how slow it is. With reapers onslaught and reaper skill 2, I imagine it would feel quite fluid.

Good luck.

New pvp revamp poll:
Locked queing
Profession based mmr
Team composition locking (no more than 2 of each class per team)

Instead, they tried to add only one part of the puzzle, and of course people voted no. When you roll thief and you encounter a 4 dh team, your only option is to reroll, which wouldn’t work with queue locking. They need to add everything at once for a new system to work. Broken Caladbolg and Truth

I come here as a warning to those other heroes who are desperately trying to restore the damaged Caladbolg.

The sword is a piece of the Mother Tree, and it allows you to channel her power, but in exchange it must form a bond with you; it can even “enhance” your personality, giving you greater understanding of your purpose. (Like how it emboldened Trahearne, which eventually led to his death, and the delivery of countless sylvari to Mordremoth)

I think the reason the Pale tree can’t seem to recover is because she needs a new host from which to drain their energy and impart her gradual control.

I urge you heroes, bury the old blade, and let us finally close the door on the damage wrought by Mordremoth. Don’t let his creation (the pale tree) continue to deceive and use the other races for her own end. She is more like a spider than a butterfly, no matter how she may present herself.

Basic needs for med-kit:
-AOE functionality. Yes, this is what you bring to heal or treat lots of people. It should be great in some zerg build, and other niche situations. With the other heals, we cover a lot of bases, this should be your heal others kit, and it can’t do that with the current functionality.
-Stronger healing, and it should counter burning, bleeding, poison, chill and weakness. But not be useful for immobilize, cripple, torment, confusion. Give it a niche, but make it strong. When I am treating my allies with the med-kit, it should be hard to kill them through condi spam by things a med-kit is supposed to treat. And the direct healing to others should make it ideal to focus the engie first when he has his kit out.

If they could do those two things. The kit could be useful.

small suggestion: Give it some minor pulse damage on some skill (maybe even 1) So that it can proc med kits and mines with traits. That would offer some counterplay to people getting right in a medigineer’s face. Not damage for damage, just to proc sigils/runes, and hit/crit traits.

So you voted No for Profession Leaderboards?

If there are customizeable build templates, i would be in favor of profession locking, but since there isn’t, i voted no.

This is a large part of my reasoning as well. It’s often impossible to adapt to an enemy team without swapping class. For now, it maintains as an important skill to succeed in gw2 pvp. I tend to get focused on one class, but having a few alternate roles on other characters can help a lot.

The other big reason is shown in my picture. Class stacking is too big of a problem without people being able to swap class. Team composition matters. And not allowing players input towards that removes their ability to define their successes. You either win or lose based on matchmaking, or you swap class and counter your enemy team. (which sometimes goes south when people play non-meta builds, which again adds to the complexity of build and class swapping)

I can still see some of your points, but they are from the perspective of not wanting to feel pressure to swap to compete. This is fair, but the current system is imbalanced as it ignores team composition. You cannot get what you want until the majority of the games playerbase (forum goers specifically) feel the system is balanced without needing to rely on their skill in role swapping.

I did the fight on my engineer and died once to the jade armor in the instance.

The jade armor is basically an enrage timer.

Please remove it. Make the fights interesting in a more engaging, smart way, not through cheap reaction extra buttons.

But dodging is also a cheap reaction button…

F is for interacting. Not a good idea to put a reactionary button on something that could interfere with loot, environmental weapons, etc. You could change it to F if you really wanted to.

It’s not like an enrage timer, because at the press of one button you cancel most of the effect. I just didn’t realize when I first went in and got owned. Second time 15 stacks of confusion and other conditions appeared on me, I realized the counter magic button was available and it purges them all.

I didn’t find it as difficult as Liadri from the queen’s jubilee I believe. This was pretty rhythmic once you saw what you had to do. Maybe too challenging for LW content?

Profession Locking Poll - February 16th 2017

I’m not sure if this has come up, but your poll is already biased… So the data you get from it will be skewed in favor of yes. I don’t think I’m the only one that, upon reading “profession locking”, I figured this was a poll to lock professions during ranked, to avoid stacked teams. Something the community has been requesting for a long time. When I read the details I realized it was quite different. You should rename it to “Character bound queue poll”. It may be too late, but just reading people’s responses, it’s obvious some people are misunderstanding the poll.

I’m seeing enough topics on this issue that I wanted to also provide my feedback. I did the fight on my engineer and died once to the jade armor in the instance. (I hadn’t noticed the pop-up for my ancient magic skill) I switched up my build to a “defensive” wvw set-up. (20k hp, 2.5k armor, 2400power, 50% crit, and 200% crit dmg). I never died again… Not sure the problem everyone had. I didn’t even realize that was the fight everyone was complaining about, until I realized I had just finished the personal story…

My experience was that fight was so easy (with a build that traded a bit of offense) that I never got downed once. All you have to do is click your ancient magic skill when you get condi bombed. Run around and throw shards at him, then dps, rinse repeat.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t take and value everyone’s feeedback who is struggling, but so much negativity, I wanted to share that the fight was not hard for me. (Although scrapper is known for surviving well) I even went and soloed my way through the centaur camp after… now that was a lot more challenging. But I got all the chests, and even found a few glitch spots where I could mokittenown some centaurs where they couldn’t fight back. Was good fun. Finished the zone, and now I’m wondering if the final tier of ancient magics is worth it. It’s either that or finish exalted gathering. (given my current number of mastery points)

So, season finished

That is great news, it means players only pvping for rewards will be slowly disappearing from now on. You’ll end up back with mostly pvp players as the season progresses. I think it is the right call to have the main seasonal reward be obtainable so early in the season.

I don’t find dying is my problem when I play glass staff. It tends to be rotations, where I can’t hold points, and my team is not bunker enough. The build can work really well, but you need enough players willing to stay on points, while you rotate huge damage around. (of course some classes can make it their mission to kill you (thief, rev) but depending on the map, you can make it really difficult to be taken down before inflicting massive damage on the point.

Anyone else run Magi? I somehow managed 46% of my teams healing last match. Which means that I nearly doubled everyone’s healing. (406k end of match) But I only dealt 96k dmg though.
